I used to work across the street and would routinely risk my life to cross Kingsway for their wonderful banh mi. As I am a vegetarian, I can't comment on any of the assorted meat subs. However, the veggie sub with crisp bread, fresh vegetables and tofu is heaven. The subs are super cheap and quite filling -- an ideal combo. The bang mi are made right in front of you in record time.

The staff are cheery and helpful. I believe the it is cash only. Enjoy!

We'be been itching for some decent Vietnamese subs since we moved to Vancouver. It's been 8 years since we moved from Calgary and have yet to find ANYTHING that compares to Bahn Mi Thi Thi downtown.

So we don't screw around. We each order 1 plus an extra to split so we can try as many flavours as possible. We 3 different subs.
    - House special
    - Garlic Chicken
    - Lemongrass chicken

All were okay for taste but weak on filling. The special had a few extra coldcut slices but the other two needed help. Fill it up!  I saw a little garlic chicken in the pan and thought, "Well it looks like they have enough to make a sub." I think they made 3 from that amount. What the what?

Not all Vietnamese subs need to be served cold. Cold pork in the special, cold chicken in both the others. A little heat means a lot of deliciousness. Judging from the lineup (which we narrowly beat) most people don't mind. Or they don't care because the sub is a pretty decent size.

If I could make this place better I would:
    - use a smaller bun
    - use more meat
    - toast is all up

A few steps needed to make this place a 4 star. A miracle to make it a 5.

My man and I visited this place to grab banh mis for breakfast the other day.

After reading all of the hype here, we were really disappointed, and for a weird reason, too.

All of the prep in the window for the sandwiches looked delicious and fresh, the baguettes were crisp and fluffy, the line moved quickly, and everything tasted pretty good when we got it, but...

We ordered the house special sandwiches, and so did the people before us, and the people after us.

Our problem? The lady making the sandwiches filled ours with noticeably much less meat and vegetables than those of the other customers, who were (I hate to point this out, because it makes me sound like a jerk) all full-Asian.

The trays of ingredients were full, so they weren't skimping out on us because they were running out of stuff or anything, but why were they ripping us off right in front of our faces? It was the same woman filling all of the sandwiches, did she think we wouldn't notice her giving us fewer slices of meat and mounds of veg? I don't get it, but am not happy about it.

I'm disappointed enough to go check out Ba Le, Vancouver's other banh mi heavy-hitter, before even thinking of coming back here.

It's saddening, because what actually was in the sandwiches was really good! If this hadn't happened they totally would have gotten 5-stars and many return trips from me, because I live in the neighborhood. Their loss!

I actually had to give myself a day or two to calm down so this wouldn't be a nine page rant against Subway or Quiznos. What the hell was I ordering all these years? While their prices have gone through the roof apparently there is a place where you can eat for less than four dollars that isn't named McDonalds.

I really wanted to try a Banh Mi so I went to Yelp to see what people liked. This place seemed like a great place to start. Since it was my first experience I was wowed by it. I'm probably going to discover a better place but from what I had I was blown away. It was so flavorful and filling and the cost just didn't compute in my head.

As I stood outside eating the glorious sandwich I saw people actually running towards the place. I guess I just beat the lunch rush and these folks are no strangers to the place.

The flavors were amazing and the addition of char siu to it just made it that much better. I'm pretty sure an old shoe would taste good in a baguette with pickled veggies, mayo, sauce and cilantro.

So, Tung Hing, Good? Yup. The best? We will see. Subway? I hate you so much...................

Sorry but a Banh Mi isn't just an ordinary sandwich and after comparing to Ba-Le on Kingsway, this place just can't light a candle.

Pate no where near as good, buns not half as good, scrimped on fillings
and much smaller as far as substance. Pales in comparison.

Ba-Le you still have my business.

Banh mi  5+ Other baked goods 2

I had a craving for a banh mi and decided to let Yelp reviews help me decide where to go.  That block along Kingsway is my foodie heaven with Aree Thai just a few doors down.

Tung Hing was packed but the staff is pleasant, super efficient and keep the line moving. We ordered the grilled chicken banh mi and then a sampling of their various pastries and buns. The banh mi was exceptional. The baguette was warm from the oven, crispy and crunchy on the outside and soft and light on the inside. The meat, veggies and condiments created a delicious perfection. Not to mention the sandwich is very large and a mere $3.50. After tasting this sub it makes me think that the proprietors of Subway and Quiznos should be sent to the Gulag for crimes against sub sandwiches.

Now for the not so great - basically everything else. Heavy, dry, doughy and under filled was a common thread with what we tasted. We ended up throwing away more than we ate. I have had far better for far less money at at least half a dozen bakeries in and around Chinatown.

It is worth the visit just for the banh mi.

and on and on and on...................... SUCCESS! I finally tried my FIRST Banh Mi in Vancouver :) at $3.25.... I cannot complain. Thinking back...........................

about 8 years ago... i was walking downtown on Spadina in Toronto as I walked into a store with lots of asian people... people packing sandwiches in the back and a lady standing by the cash register requesting for TWELVE..... twelve what? I had no idea. The person behind the cash says: "12 dollars".

I'm thinking, what the heck is being ordered for a dollar each. Next thing you know, a bag with 12 of these big bread looking things are given to her... so I point and tell her I want one of them. I cannot remember what it tastes like anymore but I remember it was the best dollar meal EVER!

No clue if that store still exists in Toronto, but I'm sure it's not a dollar a banh mi, that's for sure.

So debating back and forth between whether to try Ba-Le or Tung Hing.. I remember having this debate after the Yew Elite Party and it seemed like everyone favoured Ting Hing... so off I went. Surprised that it was actually a bakery, and not a sit down viet restaurant, I looked at their variety of options and no brainer - house special of course. I don't know what the other meats were and I knew this one would have everything.

The lady behind the sandwich bar was efficient - open bun, spread the butter, next the pate, stuff stuff stuff... so fast! At the same time, there are fresh loaves of baguette coming out and they look soft and crunchy. The baguettes were very large, and it was still warm as I grabbed the bag to go..

As I take my first bite, all these flavours are consumed with satisfaction. Meat here, pate there, buttery goodness and mixed flavours from the cilantro, radish and are consumed. As much as it gets messy, the crumbs falling all over your clothing is just part of the overall experience. I think that even the neatest eater cannot avoid this.

On a lovely Saturday afternoon, we enjoyed our buns while walking in a beautiful cherry blossom neighbourhood. I see 5 stars all over this board, but since I cannot compare this to any other bun in the city, I will stick with being a very satisfied girl waiting to check out the competition.

    * Not just for bánh mì! *

This bakery is still my favourite spot for bánh mì in the Vancouver area.  But it isn't just for bánh mì!

Here are the steps to maximize enjoyment from $1.20:

    1)  Buy a custard bun.  Photo:  http://www.yelp.ca/biz...

    2)  Split the double bun into two single buns (and maybe even share with a loved one?!?!?!).  Photo:  http://www.yelp.ca/biz...

    3)  Bite into your half while watching your loved one bite into their half (or while eagerly anticipating the second half you greedy bastard!) and enjoy the warm oozy coconut custard combined with the light fluffy freshly baked bun.  Photo:  http://www.yelp.ca/biz...

These are absolutely best when warm straight from the oven - which is more frequently than not at Tung Hing.

Literally a take out only style Bakery, worth the line up for the sandwiches and fantastic Baguettes to take home too.

This is one of my favourite places for Banh Mi sandwiches! The house special with the pate and pickled veggies is a perfect combo of savoury sweet soft and crunchy. Another favourite is the Lemon Grass chicken Banh Mi :-)

Even the BBQ pork buns are awesome here.

Don't worry about the line - the super efficient & friendly staff will whisk you in & out creating your subs in no time flat, as you watch.

THB is the Subway & Quiznos killer-I just wish there were more locations.

A friend of mine just got back from living in Vietnam for 5 years or so and brought back a wife and child.  I was figuring they might be missing some homeland food and bought 3 sandwiches.  I couldn't believe the special only cost 3.25 each.  I walked out the door with 3 sammiches & 3 pineapple buns for $11.85 - wow! what a bargain!  The pineapple buns were not as soft as I would like but still ok.

My friend said the bahn mi was pretty damn good for Vancouver style and I thought it was good, too. The only thing I noticed "different" on the Special was the chinese-style bbq pork slices.  It actually "worked"; not too over-powering in flavour.

There's a parking lot on the side of the building and street parking-just be respectful of the neighbours.

Ok.  I'll have to admit it.  You yelpers were right.  Why did I doubt you?

Tung Hing Banh Mi is better than Ba Le.

It's cheaper, the portion is larger, the counter service is friendlier, there's more parking, and they have a selection of baked goods.

I didn't know Banh Mi could be any better than Ba Le... but apparently it can... as you can see, it's still hard for me to compute.

The best and freshest Banh Mi in the 604, yo!  This little jewel of Vietnamese sandwiches is located on the Kingsway strip in East Van. Look for the green awning.  Their subs are @$3 and they come with many different fillings like:  garlic sausage, lemon grass chicken, garlic chicken, cold cuts, meatball and vegetarian.  Can't go wrong with any of these choices.  Love how the veggie sandwich comes with fried vermicelli and tofu - some places just give you the garnishes . . . ahemm Chong Li's.   Better priced and tastier than Kim Chau's or Au Petite Cafe in my opinion.

Likes:  variety of fillings, price, tasty, healthier options available (garlic chicken, veggie), baked fresh French bread, made to order, friendly and efficient staff

Dislikes:  Take-out only, can be busy at times

It's pretty funny how the reviewer under me compared Tung Hing to Bale because just earlier this week I took my girlfriend for lunch to both places. Tung Hing was amazingly better. They have more toppings. More meat. More vegetables. More sauces.

The Bale sub was smaller (about 30%) and had way less inside. 3 slices of meat, and a sparse amount of vegetables

The Tung Hing sandwich on the other hand was made fresh in front of us. They put in all the toppings which includes cucumber, pickled carrots and daikon, cilantro, the sliced jalapeños, their secret yellow mayonnaise and their soy sauce Maggi concoction which they pour through your sandwich when they are done making it.

I'm not a huge fan of banh mi because of it's accessibility in san jose, ca... but i've read that their vietnamese sandwiches were good on chowhound so i decided to give it a try as i was on vacation... i thought it would be a good snack for the ride back to seattle. i was right!! completely devoured in 5 minutes or less, it was yummy!!! the bread is better than a footlong that you can get at subway. i got the house sub! :) i'll recommend that! my mom just bought other knick-nacks and cha!

Hats off to Yelp for pointing me to this damn delicious monster banh mi!

Upon entering this nondescript bakery - cakes, rolls, and baked pastries welcome you which includes assorted Chinese style buns i.e. cocktail, pineapple, taro, hotdog, etc to name a few. I sampled their pineapple buns which were definitely fresher than the grocery bought ones, and at par with other good Chinese bakeries in the area. But wait, look further to the right as the star of the show awaits - basket of their fresh baguettes sits in one corner, and a glass casing covers fresh ingredients for the banh mi. Mmm. The rich bakery aroma wafts though the oven as I watched them (with plastic glove on one hand and thongs on the other) gracefully assemble my dac biet special.

Starts off with warm and crusty in house baked French baguettes - so good I won't be surprised if I learn they supply the baguettes at Finch's! They stuff these babies to the brim with some kind of butter or mayo, cold cuts such as Vietnamese white ham, bbq pork, liver pate and what looks like head cheese, topped with cilantro and assorted pickled vegetables - which are slightly sweet and tart vinegary, and finally a dash of black pepper and soy seasoning to round it out. Sweet, tangy, savoury goodness! No jalapenos being offered, but it was delicious as it is. And - bonus points for stopping to ask if I wanted an extra slather of the pate.. uh, of course, thank you!

All that for three freakin dollars. Subway footlongs got nothing on this for the value. Five stars for cheap good eats. Consider me a devotee.

Because of this place, I missed my stop to the bank, made 3 U-turns and almost rear-ended somebody.

    True story.

My heart was thumpin', mouth, salavating and mind, racing at the thought of my first bite of my bánh mì as the aromas of the bakery filled up my car on the way home. I couldn't eat it while driving due to the infamous crumbage of the sub and also, just in case I fainted. While I was rushing home, I tried to take a shortcut (which needless to say, got me lost and made me pull 3 U-turns), forgot I had to stop by the bank and almost rear-ended the car in front of me when I realized I had to make a sudden right turn.

I don't care how you say it but this is one of the best places to get Nammer bun / bánh mì / Viet sub. I had the house special which was the bomb diggity (as Blackstreet would say) but they also have vegetarian, lemongrass chicken and honey garlic chicken variety. Avg price of a sub is $3 - THREE FRIGGIN' DOLLARS! I am almost angry at how good it is - "How can something so sloppily put together taste so damn good?! Plus, I live a 20 minute drive away, how the hell am I suppose to come here everyday!?!?! Stupid deliciousness X-| "

How perfect - they only accept cash. Thank goodness I had a $20 bill so I could spend every last penny on the yummy-lookin' pastries (durian bun, taro bun, cassava cake, raisin twist). Out of desperation to calm myself down, I had the raisin twist in the car and it was perfect: chewy and dense dough with a crunchy shell.

It's almost ridiculous how cheap it is and I hope the owners never find out about "inflation" otherwise I won't be able to by my 90 cent buns.

P.S. Thank you Marc D. for this amazingly dangerous tip.

About 10 years ago a friend and I spent 11 days motor biking between Cambodia and Vietnam (yeah, like The Motorcycle Diaries but in a hot-ass South East Asian delta). On our trek I experienced my first Bánh mì sandwich. Like many exotic delicacies, bánh mì holds a mysterious place in my mind that drives me to distraction, leading me to remember such strange and dangerous missions looking for an all-night Vietnamese gangster deli (that's another story).

Bánh mì is a Vietnamese baguette type of sandwich. The sandwich is made up of thinly sliced pickled carrots and daikon, onions, cucumbers, cilantro, jalapeño peppers and meat or tofu. Popular bánh mì fillings include roasted or grilled pork, Vietnamese ham, paté, mayonnaise, chicken, and head cheese. Most banh Mi sandwiches contain a Vietnamese mayonnaise-like spread that is a mixture of egg yolk, cooking oil/butter, and sometimes spices.

I still harbor my obsession about Vietnamese sandwiches. My longstanding theory that restaurants are incapable of creating good bánh mì was disproved this morning when I enjoyed a spectacular one at Tung Hing Bakery in Vancouver, BC.

I'm not experienced with Banh Mi, but went here after reading Mark D's review.

I had a garlic chicken sandwich for $3, and a fried banana bun (yum.) They were out of the garlic chicken, but more came out of the back less than 5 minutes after I ordered, and we were good to go.  Tasty, tasty sandwich, hot filling, fresh, crusty bread, huge portion for the price. A bit simple, and I noticed they didn't offer me any jalapenos, but I'm definitely going to ask for them next time.

On a recent trip to Vancouver, I had to get my banh mi fix so I drove up the Kingsway.  I've been to Kingsway Deli before and this is right beside it so I had to stop here too :)
The meat in the special sub is spiced more than some other places I've tried... It was really good.

I ALWAYS ALWAYS get chicken banh mi... this place gives you full pieces of chicken that are seasoned with lemongrass and what I think is turmeric, giving it a yellow colour. I was so excited to try it, looked awesome.  The banh mi as a whole didn't disappoint. The bread was really good.. crunchy on the outside, which I like. They didn't skimp on the veggies either.  My one big complaint about it was how salty it was!!! I kept thinking how salty it was the entire time I was eating. I don't know if they just got happy with the shaker that day but tone it down and it would be perfect.

Like others said, no seating... bakery counter only. The price of banh mi is more expensive here than other places, but not unreasonably so!

Also in response to the whole cheese debate, I also have never had cheese in banh mi, until I went to Westminster, California and found myself holding a banh mi with slices of processed cheese in it.  It took me a while to figure out what was weird about the sub I was eating, but there was cheese and no veggies.  But for the record, my Viet friends also say no to cheese in banh mi.

Best Bánh mì in town (that I've had so far).    Cheap too.

This little bakery on Kingsway has no seating so be prepared to eat on the run.   That barely detracts from their fresh Vietnamese subs that are so damn tasty.   Highly suggested if you're a Bánh mì fan.    Good coconut buns too.

My friend and I stopped by this bakery after I read some reviews on yelp. I have been on a search to find a great Vietnamese sub in Vancouver so we thought we'd try Tung Hing.

I wanted to try the lemon grass chicken sub but they were all out of it. go figure! So we both settled on the garlic chicken. It was made fresh for us with all the fixins. But once again, NO cheese. Someone please tell me what the deal is with that in this town. Doesn't anyone out here eat cheese on sandwiches? Anyways, the bread was fantastic! You can tell it's homemade. So crusty and chewy. I could eat it alone. The garlic chicken was tasty but overall the sub seemed to lack some pizzaz or something. Not the best I've ever had but above average only because of the homemade bread/sub.

We both ordered desserts. My friend got a brownie which was yummy but sweet. I got the mango mousse cake which was totally yummy. Cheap prices for their bakery goods which is a welcome surprise. They had a wide variety of goodies and I will certainly come back to try a few more. As for the sub, I still want to try the lemon grass chicken.

We were a bit disappointed that there is no seating whatsoever here. My friend and I ended up eating our subs across the street on the bus bench.

Read my other reviews about Au Petite Cafe and you will know why this is 'authentic'.

Where I am coming from: I am Vietnamese and I have to respond to some of the people looking for 'cheese' in Vietnamese subs. First of all, cheese is NEVER used in any of our food or cooking and doesn't exist in Vietnam (unless it is a fusion dish), and it was created more for the Americans, such as 'sweet & sour' chicken, which doesn't exist in China nor was it ever a Chinese dish.

Simply put, if you buy a sub and it has cheese, stay far away, because they are only catering to the tongues and tastes of Westerners to increase revenue and not staying true to the authenticity of Vietnamese cooking.  I had a Vietnamese sub in Maui for curiosity and it was completely 'Americanized' with all the trimmings, american mayonnaise, dijon mustard, etc. It didn't taste bad, but it was definitely NOT the sub that we would serve in my home town in Vietnam.  I think some people are used to certain tastes and it is hard to change their perception when try something that is truly authentic and they quite taken back.

I would say only a couple of the subs on the menu are 'authentic' . The House one is what we traditionally eat as Vietnamese. The chicken garlic and meat balls, etc are catered again to Westerners who are used to having variations of meats available in their sandwiches. The reason why the house is authentic is because of the specialty Vietnamese Ham, which are sold only in Vietnamese stores and not in your local supermarket. It is like the prosciutto of Italy. It is the ONLY type of meat that goes in our sandwhiches. The bbq pork is the Chinese influence, but it is also very good too.

Since you are there, mind as well grab a dessert too. The creme brulee is a favourite. FYI, while the creme brulee and Vietnamese subs are all traditional Vietnamese food, it actually  was a French influence during the colonization.  Hence, you will find very good French restaurants in Vietnam. Nice read while eating your sub!

Tung Hing is a nice little bakery but the line on Saturday was for the banh mi (Vietnamese sandwiches).  I ordered the 'special' for $2.75 which had pate, 'ham', pork and some other mystery meat.  It was topped with pickled veggies, cilantro and supposedly jalapenos.  Sadly, I arrived home only to discover they skipped my jalapenos (minus 1 star).

The baguette is plump and crispy on the outside.  The fillings are plentiful and tasty too.  I only quickly looked at the other sandwiches on their menu and will return to try more.

W-What d-do they p-put in the B-Banh Mi h-h-here? C-C-Crack? Because there's definitely something addictive about a Tung Hing Bahn Mi! Not only are they absolutely delicious, the House Special Bahn Mi is only $3. It didn't even go up in price when the HST went into effect. Bahn Mi from Tung Hing has become one of my top comfort foods and my #1 place to get it whenever I get the craving. They're quick, cheap, and satisfying! The baguettes are baked fresh all day long. Crispy on the outside and oh so soft in the middle! The full sized baguettes are only $2.25. I use them to make regular sandwiches at home or cut them up and serve with dips. BTW, make sure you ask for extra Pate on your Sandwich! It make it extra delicious. I t-t-think I n-need another f-fix s-s-soon!

We drove up and down Kingsway looking for this place to compare it to the Au Petite sandwich we just ate, but now I wish we'd had just gotten another one from Au Petite. We got the Banh Mi Dac Biet here and it just didn't stand up to Au Petite. The bread just wasn't as good or crisp and the meats weren't as good. Nothing made this sandwich stand out for me.The only reason I could even give this place 3 stars is because the other pastries and goodies looked tempting. Plus, I got a couple of their Pate Chaux and they were pretty good. Not as flaky as I was expecting, but it was alright.

Okay, this was stop number two on the yelp food tour the other day. I wanted to try this one out on the recommendation from Marc D.
Really cute bakery on Kingsway and was looking forward to trying the banh mi. Their setup was very clean and orderly. I ordered the regular sandwich and made sure to have jalapenos !! The veggies was the freshest out of any bahn mi I've ever had, and the meat was tasty and plentiful, I don't know what it was but I wasn't blown away.... I know all the ingredients were GREAT, but somehow the whole package fell short. I still think Ba Le on Main Street and Golden Pizza have the best sandwiches around.
A really good sandwich but just not super-duper ! Would I eat it again...absolutely. Would I make a trip specifically ?? Mmmmmmm maybe not.

The best quick lunch I've discovered so far in Vancouver. Heavenly baguettes with scrumptious fillings and only $2.75, and there's Glen Park nearby to sit and eat them while the kids blow off steam.  I wish I could get there in my lunch break every day. I'm addicted. It's terrible, but wonderful all at the same time.

Unfortunately the kids have now decided that they don't like the $0.90 hot dogs baked in a bun after all, otherwise we'd be able to feed the whole family for under $8.

I can phone-in a big order! I drive from Surrey for these awsome Vietnamese subs so now I know that they will have them when I get there because in the past, they sometimes didn't have enough to make a big order when I just show up and want 12 subs! 12 subs to share with co-workers, friends and family!

My favourite banh mi in Vancouver. It also helps that I live within walking distance! I love that they have a vegetarian option that is delicious and filling (seriously though, what's with the "hot peppers" here? I don't even think they register on the Scoville scale), and my eating partner has given the thumbs-up to almost all of the meatatarian options. Service is always quick and on-point. They definitely don't mess around, yo. The baguettes are fresh and crispy and the prices cannot be beat. Where else can you get both a sandwich and a treat at the same time, for just a pocket full of change?

We went to Kingsway, looking for Viet. subs - looking for a place R had seen on Yelp. Couldn't remember which one it was so stopped here. It was so worth not being able to remember the recommendation - this was just yummy! As mentioned by all previous reviewers - fresh, so tasty and a complete bargain at $2.75!
Kids enjoyed the sausage bun concoctions - fresh and tasty too. Will be back :)

Found this little bakery after a searching on Yelp for places with good Vietnamese subs (aka banh mi).  With all the Viet businesses in this area of Kingsway - it can be difficult to narrow it down.  And Tung Hing definitely lived up to the reviews.

As the other reviews state - I think the secret to this place is freshly-baked baguette bread they use (as opposed to the chewy standard bread as most other places use - that have to be toasted).  The ~10" crunchy yet soft on the inside subs are loaded up heavy with delicious ingredients.

The prices start at $3 (taxes in) per sub - while a bit more than some other places, the subs are larger and much better.  Offerings include the house special, lemon grass/garlic chicken and sausage.  My favourite is the classic house special with the variety of cold cuts - but the others are great too.

The only downside of this place is that there is no seating whatsoever, but parking is plentiful.  There is often a line-up for the Viet sub counter (a great sign), but the ladies work quickly.

Have yet to sample their other baked goods, but will eventually as I am now a proud regular of this place.

My favourite banh mi place! The only time I'm disappointed is when I leave empty handed because they've ran out of bread!

Their special sub was my favourite until I became pseudo-vegetarian. Now my favourite is their vegetarian sub. It's THE best vegetarian sub in town. Cheap too!

My only concern writing this review is that as more people know about this place, the higher chance I'll leave empty handed cuz they'll either run out of bread or vegetarian fillings!

Thank you Yelp! This is the best find I've come across here. I just finished eating a garlic shredded chicken Vietnamese Sandwich (banh mi) and all I can say is, "wow". Absolutely and by far THE BEST Vietnamese Sandwich I have ever tasted - and that includes Au Petit Cafe, my previous favorite - and for only $3.25! The bread is made fresh on premises, along with all the ingredients including the egg mayonnaise, cold cuts, and pate. I like mine on the simple side so opted away from the house special which includes a sampling of all the meats, and instead went for the garlic chicken complete with coriander, chili peppers, and pickled radish. Incredibly delicious. Once you try it, you will think twice about visiting a Subway or Quizno's ever again.

My search for the best banh mi in Vancouver has ended!  This unassuming bakery has the best bread (crunchy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside), is freshly made to order, and is only $3 for a foot long sandwich, give or a take a quarter depending on the type of sandwich you order.  My favorites are the house special (mayo, roast pork, cold cut, pate, pickled turnip/carrot, cilantro and option of jalapeno) and the lemongrass chicken sandwiches.  I have also looked for the best french breads since I've moved to Vancouver, and La Baguette & L'Echalote became my go to after trying several bakeries.  But paying upwards of $3-$6 for bread seems ridiculous when you're buying all the time.  At Tung Hing, you can get french bread (about 2.5 ft long) for no more than $2.  Talk about yummy bread at a yummy price!  This is where I'll be coming to buy sandwiches and bread to feed the masses.

They have pretty good banh mi here, but not the best.  Their vegetarian banh mi is really good though!!  I try and stop by this pace once a week.  Service is not the best, but quick.  Sometimes there will be a lineup of people, but nothing to crazy.  Worth checking out.

This place has the best french bread I have ever had. Wow! Tung Hing is so busy I went there and tried their banh mi and the bread is freshly baked and way better than Subway. Fresh veggies and tasty cold cuts. Tried their Tiramisu  was pretty good. I went back in the afternoon to get their bread was all sold out so I have to come back for a batch baking in their ovens. Ah its worth going back for. Yep or Yelp?" l`ll Be Back".

I had high hopes about this place. Good reviews on Yelp, clean interior, good counter staff.  Bread was crusty, veggies were well marinated, yet something was off.  Not sure what was missing but something definitely was. I was a little saddened by it all.
