Review from Lex B.
While visiting family in Victoria I took a stroll to the Tudor house for a bite and a drink with an old friend since it was one of the only places around open on boxing day.
It is a sleepy little bar right near the navy base, and all the old surly looking white men in flannel looked over abruptly from their hockey game to linger longer than a glance at the smiling girl in polka-dot shoes and heart shaped glasses and her long haired guy-friend. The service was cheery though, we chose a table near one of the very few windows (which are too high to offer any sort of view.) Our server checked in with us every so often (we took far too long to even look at the menu) and was super friendly and just lovely the whole time.
I ordered a veggie quesadilla , and was pleasantly surprised. Often the "veggie" versions of things at little pubs are sad substitutes but this one was full of veggies, cheese, and jalapenos. Jalapenos! Yay! The veggies weren't creative, but they were plentiful which is all I ask. The salsa it came with was actually a little spicy, and it came with a good portion of sour cream.
What I really would have liked to see is a cocktail list, or even a wine list at the table alongside the beer list. I know, I know, it's a pub, but come on, sell me on something other than beer! -

The Tudor House is an institution in Esquimalt, as in, it's been here forever and has gone many face lifts on the inside. Finally!!! They bought back table service, something that's kept me out of there at lunch. And as for that lunch, they have a special everyday and it's pretty inexpensive. I had the BLT with the ever popular Yam fries. The sandwich was bang on, the yam fries...not so much. They were over cooked and kind of resembled that day before fryer oil change day at the ole truck stop. I'm hoping that day is tomorrow, as over fried yams aren't too appealing. And after much jibbing over the Shirley Temple I ordered, it was probably one of the best.
Lastly, I still loathe the parking. The angled stalls are just too small.
