It's a bit of a weekly tradition for folks from my office to grab lunch here on Fridays. Being the new kid in the office I was pretty excited to hop on the Friday Pho train. When we rolled in with 10+ people they didn't even flinch, a server pulled some tables together and off we went. The menu is on the small side, but there are lots of delicious choices. Our server was super knowledgeable about the menu and made several recos for vegetarian friendly dishes and modifications that could be made to other dishes on the menu. Um and the craziest part?! SHE KNEW EVERYBODY'S NAME! It was unreal. And knew pretty much what everybody was getting to eat before they even ordered. Regulars or what?!
Lunch was delicious and for dessert they have the most amazing and delicious ENORMOUS rice krispy squares. I can't wait to go back! -

Of course, Bedford. OF COURSE you'd surprise me with the opening of a fantastic Vietnamese restaurant within walking distance from my office a month after I start a new job. That's so like you...
Tu Do is the reincarnation of the Birmingham restaurant of the same name that closed several years ago after a fire. I never got to go back then, but it's nice to see a familiar family restaurant back on the scene.
We were one of three groups to come in over the lunchtime rush even though there is tons of extra room which Bedford workers know is hard to come by when you really just want to sit down for a bite to break up the day. Our server was actually a member of the family who owns the place so he took great care of us, reminiscing about the old location, and showing tons of pride in the quality of their food. The menu is focused with two pages of Pho and vermicelli meals alongside a healthy list of soups, rolls and appetizers. Main dishes were almost all $8.50-9.50 too which makes it nice and easy on the bank account.
My friends both went for the Pho (after a great pronunciation lesson) and fried spring rolls, while I took the servers advice when he offered to make the Braised Curried Chicken and Rice dish into a Braised Curried Tofu and Vermicelli dish. Simply put, it left me sweating and happy about it. And my bill was still under $10!
The ambiance could use a little bit of work and it's easy to miss without very much signage on the street level, but the food is absolutely fantastic and the prices are even better. I'll definitely be back
[Funny story for anyone still reading: they must use enviro-friendly lighting in the washrooms that only turn on when someone comes in which is great. Less great when you're standing at the urinal and suddenly find yourself completely in the dark, swinging one arm around hoping that no one walks in and chalks you up to being straight-up crazy.] -

In the past year, I've become an uneducated, but loving fan of Vietnamese food. Well, at least the Pho (pronounced Faaa, apparently), the yummy spring rolls and the salad rolls. An aficianado I am not, but having been to most of the restaurants in Halifax that serve Vietnamese, I can at least speak with comparison.
Tu Do was exceptional and a tremendous addition to the Bedford restaurant scene. The beef in the Pho arrived rare, it was chock full of herbs, and accompanied by the usual assortment of lime and bean sprouts. And it was delicious! As good, if not better, than any other Pho I've had in town.
But perhaps the best part of the meal was the family-owned and operated atmosphere. Albeit the service was a little slow and the walls a little bare, it was easily forgiven in the midst of chatting with our server (the son of the owners) and knowing that the food was being prepared by the family themselves.
Bottom line: if you like Vietnamese, it's well worth the trip to Bedford. I was there twice last week and it won't be long before my next visit. I predict "regular" status in my future. -

We checked out this new Vietnamese restaurant in Bedford a few weeks ago after much anticipation. I do not know the exact address but it is on the east side of the Bedford highway by the Persepolis Market/ Restaurant - south of Pete's but north of Sobeys.
I have lived out in Calgary where Vietnamese is ubiquitous and surprisingly popular with Asians and Non-Asians a like. When we first moved here last year I was surprised and disappointed at how few Vietnamese restaurants were in the HRM area - I know of four altogether with this one included in the count! I tried a couple of the restaurants in the HRM area but have not tried the one downtown yet.
I can say though that this restaurant is so far my favorite Vietnamese restaurant. We are lucky that it is relatively close to where we live. The food is authentic Vietnamese. The beef Pho soup is nice as is the Pork Bun. Portions are a little less than what I am used to but I will take what I can get especially since it is the best in the area that I have come across.
If you are a fan of Vietnamese food, I think you will be happy with this restaurant. I look forward to trying out a few more of their dishes or just going back for their Pho on a cold winter's day. -

Fantastic staff and service, with a great view. I've eaten here a couple times on work lunches, as our office as taken to engaging in "Pho Fridays". While I have had the Pho here, and it was good, I've become a bigger fan of their Vermicelli. Here's a tip, if your hungry, order the Vermicelli and get them to cut up 2 spring rolls over top, it makes for the perfect full lunch. We've eaten here with a group of 10 and service was always prompt and helpful.
