Opulence and majesty are the two words that come to mind when I try to simply sum up my recent stay at the Trump Hotel. I don't think Toronto has ever seen anything quite like this.  This hotel is a destination onto itself; over dinner I overheard a few other locals talking about taking advantage of the Trump's opening promotions to enjoy a local weekend getaway.

As luxury hotels go in this city, understatement and earth tones seem to be the order of the day. Trump raises the bar to a whole new level with gorgeous design and rich finishes that hint at courtly decadence and appeal to everyone's inner royal (or inner celebrity). The purple crystal sculpture in the lobby behind the check-in desk is so stunning that I had a hard time focusing on my check in details. The Concierge explained that it was designed, constructed and specially imported from the Czech Republic with an elaborate installation process. I don't doubt it.

At Trump, subtlety translates into detailed woodwork, marble finishes, and impeccable attention to detail. Press releases proclaim this recently-opened hotel and residence as "Canada's tallest residential building," yet hallway spaces and suites feel intimate and inviting. Hallways on hotel floors feature decorative dividing frames that feel welcoming and nearly residential (if only my residence were quite this grand)!

Staying here might be described as the "Trump Experience":

Hot lavender-scented hand towels to welcome your safe arrival from sub-zero temps?
    Check.

Complimentary upgrade to a deluxe corner suite (I had a regular suite booked but deluxe was available) with early check in and late check out?
    Check.

Complimentary bottled water, gourmet truffles, candied ginger, and shortbread to welcome your stay?
    Check.

Heated bathroom floor tiles, bathroom mirror TV, flat-screen LCD IP televisions, and bedside touch-panel controls for window coverings and lighting?
    Check.

The gym is not yet open but staff were quick to offer me access to the nearby Adelaide Club, which is available to all hotel guests until the gym opens in April.

If there is anything you'd like, don't hesitate to ask. I received a complimentary tour and generous late check-out at my request.

We ordered in-room dining twice and were not disappointed. Again, the attention to detail is notable and everything we ordered was delicious.  I hope they will consider a longer menu in the future, but they were more than happy to accommodate my unique requests for several items. Just ask!

These are just a few highlights of my stay here, but I won't soon forget the overall experience. Staff were eager to please and asked several times if anything could be improved. Although I have some advice regarding STOCK restaurant in that regard, the hotel itself seems beyond reproach. If they keep up this level of service, I think it might be difficult to find any available rooms in the future because this place is going to be booked solid.

My only suggestion to the hotel is to include more details on the website. Photographs and deal information can go a long way in promoting the hotel to casual web surfers who are curious about what the hotel has to offer.

The competition better watch out because this is only a week and a half after opening. If this is what "warming up" looks like, this hotel is quickly going to establish itself as one of the best in the city.

Trump was everything I thought it would be when I headed there for their "Event Planners Night".

It is definitely opulent, showy, and a big gaudy (in a good way!), which is what you would expect from the Trump name, especially with a theme like "Champagne & Caviar".

Their Grand Ballroom and Grand Staircase are beautiful - I was told a few different sizes, but the most frequent number I heard of was 200 reception style (a little small for grand). There are black chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, and a span on windows on one wall. While the space would be great for a reception, I don't know about a wedding - it's a long narrow room.

I was able to tour all of their room styles, ranging from the small (550 sq ft, not exactly tiny) to their largest suites. They definitely did their hotel rooms right. Heated floors, safe, robes, control panels for lights and curtains on every convenient surface. Their largest suite has a beautiful fireplace, a fabulous view and a dining table for four (also sometimes used as a meeting space). The rooms are absolutely amazing - I want to live in one (but hey that's why they have condos!)

They will also have a gym (not yet open) and an infinity salt water pool, as well as a spa, and their bar "Suits".

As an event planner, I'm happy to see another high end hotel in Toronto - I just wish this one had a little more event space and a few less condos.

Was at Trump Tower Toronto for their first external event. Entrance is odd. Lobby underwhelming. Event floor - decor is very eighties. Black lacquer bathrooms, blue lighting (not flattering for humans).

Service - somewhat stiff. Pleasant enough but would expect more. Probably just need to find their groove.  Sushi bar guy knew his stuff!

Food - risotto was so-so. Braised short ribs were tender and tasty. Sushi fresh and good variety. Desserts - excellent!  Had lots of chocolate type items which seemed made in house. Caramel was fantastic. Wine very good. Appetizers - loved mushroom in panko crust. Little dish of hummus with veg and nachos was good.  I found that there was a lot of truffle used.  I like truffle oil (in moderation) but seemed just a little to much.  Seasoning was spot on for everything.

Overall enjoyed the place but it needs more time to settle into itself.  Seriously though - who was the interior designer? Didn't have the level of class that a ritz or four seasons has.  I think it will feel dated very quickly.

This hotel is very high end and it delivers a very good experience. Even with flaws, this hotel demonstrates what a true Trump hotel is like. When you first enter in to the hotel, you are greeted nicely by a doorman and welcomed. The service is very friendly and professional . However, the lobby was very pretty small but it is nothing to worry about. The room was very spacious and very uniquely designed with many features that can help you enjoy your stay more such as a work place desk, minibar HDTV and many more. The room has a TV that is built in to the mirror (I loved the TV!!) and you can watch news or any shows when you are taking a shower. We were also given a welcoming gift with chocolates and a free in-room breakfast. One of my favourite things about the hotel is the location. Eaton Centre (shopping mall) is located nearby and is walking distance. It is great for people who want to shop for clothes or anything. However, this hotel has its flaws that hold it back from being a perfect hotel. On its website, it gave us a promotion deal (Opening Promotion) that gave us free breakfast for two. We had four people and were very disappointed because of it. . Next, on the website it stated that if we paid by American Express, we can get a bottle of wine for free. However, we did not get it because the manager stated the room had to be $485 and over( the website did not state this). Another reason is that during our visit, the pool/gym was not ready but the website did not state anything about this. This hotel has flaws but they are all fixable. Each night for the regular Deluxe King Room(cheapest) is approximately $425 per night and will be more expensive the higher class of the room. An expensive suite will cost around $595 per night. I rate this hotel  4 out of 5 stars. I would recommend this hotel to anyone that is looking for a hotel to stay at. This hotel is great and I hope they look at these reviews/feedback as a way to improve their service to make a more positive experience. Donald Trump will be proud. If you have any more information, please visit the Trump Hotel Website.
