We've been here a couple of times now. First time for coffee and cake and the second time for lunch.
I was really impressed with the food, and service, both times. All of their food appears to be home-made and really is very good. Today I took my sons and we opted for a strange combination of food. Breakfast wrap, breakfast muffin, beef and barely soup and pulled pork sandwich with BBQ sauce and coleslaw. The wraps were tasty and full of good things, although the muffin was more to the boys taste than the wrap (which was stuffed with scrambled egg, avocado, salsa, bacon & cheese). The beef and barley soup was very obviously home-made which delicious little nuggets of beef. My pulled pork sandwich was delish and I had to fight the boys off. They just sat looking at me with sad puppy eyes until I caved in and gave them a small bite each!
Didn't bother with drinks this time, because they have water with fresh mint and cucumber for you, free of charge! So all this yumminess came to a grand total of $21 - not bad at all for the quality. I will be back and if I have any aged person's I wish to take for a nice lunch, with a lovely view, this is where we will be going. -

Not too bad a way to stop in and break some time from wandering around Van Dusen garden... The pricing is ok... the food is ok... but DAMN does it get busy on a weekend. Towards about 3:30 (a pretty good tea time...) there was almost nothing left from their Tea for 2 service... they were making do with whatever they could put on there. The house tea blend was nice... the sandwich we got in there was VERY tasty... the ganache tart... a little too rich for what we were looking for. All in all.. at the end.. there was too much butter going on in everything we had. It tasted good... but we ended up feeling afterwards like we ate a stick of butter each.

Tried out the Cafe at Vandusen just last weekend. The spot is awesome, overlooking the gardens. I tried the afternoon tea. Really great that you get a whole panini with it, but although the website says you get a choice of tea, I was told it came only with the VanDusen private label one. It would have been much better if the croissant and scone was warm as it isn't as enjoyable eating it cold and didn't taste freshly made.

Review from Parsley M.

I recently went to Truffles and had an unpleasant experience. Myself and some relatives (party of 6) went there to get some lunch and we weren't happy with the service or food. After we ordered, we sat down at a table to wait for our meals. It wasn't very busy there, there weren't more than 8 other customers at tables. At first the orders got mixed up. We were brought food that wasn't ours. The cashier kept saying that would only be another "2 minutes" and it took 40 minutes for the last person to get their food. The paninis were at room temperature. The drinking water container was full of cucumbers which made it taste awful. One of the servers bent down to get something he had dropped and we got an eyeful of plumber's crack. He wasn't even apologetic for the long wait and confusion. We were finally able to speak to the manager about the issues. He apologized and said that they were understaffed that day. Considering how un-busy the place was, this didn't seem like a very valid excuse. He gave each of us vouchers for our next visit, but I don't think I'll be going there again.
