I'm having separation issues at this very moment, remembering how delicious my Chocolate Banana Cream Pie was last night. I wish I had a slice magically appear in front of me every time I have a craving for it.
To go with my Choco Banana Cream Pie, I had the Polar Bear Express Hot Chocolate, which had peppermint Schnapps in it. It was sooooo good! Made me feel all warm and tingly inside.
Over all this location is pretty similar to the Denman location, except that It's slightly smaller. Good atmosphere and trendy vibe. It actually feels a little younger than the other location, not in terms of when the restaurant opened, but in terms of the crowd. It just felt more youthful than the Denman location. It's not a better or worse thing, just something that I noticed.

A place of contradictions.
True Confections serves good cakes and pies with some pretty tasty tea. However, the atmosphere has something lacking, its as if the owners aren't really sure what they want to do with the restaurant.
Is it a diner? No, it's too dark for that. Is it a cafe? There's certainly no warm and cozy spots to relax in.
And what's with the music? I'm not somebody that is going to criticize the top40 but the owners here need to realize what setting that type of music is appropriate for. For whom does Kanye West fit into an idealized chocolate cake-eating cappuccino-sipping scenario?
True confections is overpriced, the tables lack space and privacy, and there's simply nothing exceptional about the place. Look elsewhere if you want a relaxing, delicious dessert experience. -

There's nothing too extravagant about the pastries and drinks at True Confections. They are arguably overpriced with flavours passable as average.
Nevertheless, I make a 25 minute trip out to Alma every once in a while when I desire/crave late night dessert. The best attribute about True Confections is that they open late - a bonus for a city that is notorious for sleeping early. They also offer a selection of alcohol infused coffee beverages if you ever choose to wet your whistle.
It's a great place for dates, but, just to reiterate, it's nothing special. You can find better quality desserts at fancy restaurants after dining over a 2-3 course meal (needless to say, right?). -

The last time I went to True Confections, it was a few years ago and my stomach didn't feel good for two days.
Last night I went again with a friend and we shared two of their cakes, the Dark Chocolate Mousse Cake and some other cake.
Again, the cakes were just ok, nothing great, not worth the money or the time to go there. I really don't know how they survived so long with just mediocre tasting cakes... large size sure, expensive, yes, but not worth it.
And of course, you guess it, my stomach didn't feel good all day today. I'm never going back. -

Simple and decent place for desserts. Area kinda sucks bec its kinda hidden and parking is small. First time I went there I had the pecan pie, not bad really. 2nd time I ordered the APPLE PIE and...OMG soooooo goooodddd. If you like apple pie so far this one is awesome. Theyre not stingy with their slice thats for sure. Ill go back here again. Not expensive, cute place to have dessert. Nothing to fancy.

From my experience, their cakes are really hit or miss, no in between...
I went there once about a year ago and I was extremely disappointed! Chocolate Mousse Cake was huge, and full of sugar! I kept remembering myself as a kid when I used to eat spoonfuls of sugar... (un)fortunately my taste changed since, and I wanted velvety, rich taste of chocolate!
Yesterday however, I gave them another chance, and I must say - that English Trifle was really good! Very summery! I quite liked it!
So my advice would be, if you want a good chocolate cake, go to Capers and try their chocolate decadence cake or chocolate mousse cake, trust me, you'll be in heaven! At True Coinfections try English Trifle or pies...Listed in: Chocolate?! You had me at…

NOTHING SPECIAL.... NOTHING!
DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT COME OUT OF YOUR WAY TO COME HERE AT ALL.
VERY expensive $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ NOT WORTH THE PRICE.
1.- omg $8 for a very AVERAGE TASTE slice of cake? REALLY?
2.- Service is just fine. I ordered my cake as soon as we were seated and the waiter took aprox. 5-10 min to bring it. All he had to do was to put the slice of cake on a plate and bring it to me :S
4.- WHEN THE BILL CAME IT WAS 21$ FOR 2 SLICES OF CAKE. Believe me when I say this, they are not worth the price.
Dear owner,
Sorry but CAPERS does better cakes than you will ever do.
P E O P L E:
Try shantilly cake in CAPERS-the entire cake for ONLY 20$ super delicious and good priced.
All their cakes are very delicios, go to CAPERS in 4th av. Kitsilano if you want to eat something sweet and yummy.

Maybe I'm accustomed to cheap eats but True Confections don't float my boat and I am sweet-tooth Queen! When others squint their eyes and comment on the sweetness, I sketchily look around and agree when secretly I want to take the dessert home and eat it all! Which is what I did the first time I came to True Confections several years back. And guess what? I went into a sugar coma! Yep, bypassed the sugar high and went straight into crash-mode. Never went back until recently...
Got the Black and White (aka. Staff Pick) cake and shared with a friend. We didn't even finish it! What?! Yeah! The cakes aren't anything to rave about for a place that prices them around $10. For $10 you can make one yourself AND a bowl of jello.
The cakes aren't fantastic but the service was. I can see this place being great for a date. It's small and got a relaxing atmosphere and for you romantics, you can feed your date over candlelight. Um, but please don't because the place is small...so the rest of us can see. -

True Confections is the place I like to go to when I'm in Vancouver and in need of a sugar hit at 11pm, or maybe just a place to sit and chat and enjoy some warm drinks with a special someone.
Their cheesecake is of the dense, rich variety; I tried the mandarin orange version that is on special right now for the holidays and it was tangy and decadent at the same time.
Their chocolate hazelnut cake is also sinfully rich.
Girlies, you know how like maybe 52 weeks out of the year you are probably craving sugar and chocolate and carbs like crazy? Come here. All the chocolateness that your hormones are crying for is neatly packaged in tall slices of cake and pie.
Top it off with a cappuccino (or wimp out like me and get some vanilla steamed milk, so you can sleep easy).
Yum! -

My friends and I have always talked about just going out and having cheesecake while we catch up. We've always wanted to go to Cheesecake Etc, but after passing by the place we decided it wasn't really the place we wanted to be. So my friend suggested True Confections; it was probably one of the best last minute, late night, impulse decisions we've ever made.
True Confections is a tiny, cafe-like establishment that serves desserts and is open late. I've never actually gotten a table there because we always grab it to go, but from how we were greeted by the staff, I'd say I could definitely see myself sitting down and ordering myself some treats. They are very friendly, accommodating, and are knowledgeable in whatever question you have about their desserts.
As I've mentioned in my previous reviews, I'm unable to consume chocolate (fml) but from the desserts I've had, I was quite happy. Their banana cream pie is one of my favorites. The fresh bananas are wonderful and the filling is so tasty. I can't have enough of this. I also love their blueberry and strawberry cheesecake. It's dense and rich in a way cheesecakes should be. From friends' reviews, the chocolate banana cream pie was delicious and the whipped cream was a great addition to it. The chocolate caramel cheesecake was a bit heavy, but tasty nonetheless.
After introducing this to my family, this has been a favorite whenever there's an occasion. My family loves it, especially my mom who has a sweet tooth (I'm sure I got my sweet tooth from her). The classic chocolate cake is my family's favorite. The chocolate cake is moist and fluffy. Overall, recommended for any chocolate lovers out there. They also tried the chocolate mudcake; this was a bit of a disappointment for my brother. He said it was dry and the staff recommended that he should heat it up and eat it with ice cream. He said they said this makes the cake moist and adds flavor. I don't buy this at all; cakes shouldn't rely on ice cream to make it delicious. These cakes should be able to stand up and be tasty on their own. The fact that it needs ice cream for it to be moist is a sign of inferior production.
I love this place but my biggest issue is the price. It is WAY over priced for a slice of cake. Sure it's delicious but paying nearly $30+ for 4 slices of cake is just absurd. This is why I'd only go here if there was a special occasion. $7 (average) for a slice of cake? Unfathomable.
Parking is also an issue. The parking lot is small, so you'd have to find street parking if you're one of the unlucky ones who can't park there.
Would I go back there? Possibly once every 2 or 3 months, when there's a big event and people are craving cakes (and we're in the vicinity of course). $7 is just too much for a slice of cake.
I'd give this place a 3.5/5 but since half scores aren't allowed, a 4 should do it because I do like their cakes. -
Review from Rick C.
A bunch of us trekked over to Point Grey for some late night dessert.
I had the peanut butter chocolate cheesecake and it was pretty solid. I thought all their desserts were very filling.
The cream pies looked particularly scrumptious as the banana did.
This rhubarb savannah pie looked pretty rich and had a lot going on.
They certainly had a ton of variety with a wide assortment of pies and cakes to choose from. The traditional chocolate cake was beyond decadent. The pecan pie seemed like a solid alternative.
As far as late night dessert joint so, True Confections does the job. -

This place tops all the other dessert places' trophy case of cakes. The cakes are all sooooo pretty!!
But did they taste as good as they looked? Definitely! The mud pie a la mode is what every chocolate brownie/cake should be like -- moist and completely chocolatey! (None of that cake mix nonsense)
Service wasn't as good as I would expect for a place like this -- For at least 4 employees (that I could see) working in the small space of no more than 10 tables, service was slow, and at times, hard to come by.
But back to the selection, cakes, cheesecakes, pies and ice cream oh my! I wanted to try more cakes, but after my humongous slice of Boston cream pie I was stuffed. Despite the luring light reflecting off of the Devil's Food cake in the display case, I had to pry myself away from the place before I order another slice and die because of a heart attack. THAT's how tempting it was.
Definitely will visit again...maybe another location for better service though.Listed in: Diaries of a Dessertacholic

You're losing my love, True Confections!
Arrived on a Monday night with a group of 7 people. Had to wait for a bit, and finally got seated. I haven't been to this location in a while, and I did notice that they are now being run by Korean people. There's no more dim, romantic atmosphere and instead replaced by bright halogen lights. Not really liking it.
I got one of my favourite cakes here, the Toasted Almond Cake, and the Mighty Leaf White Orchard tea.
Our desserts arrived quickly, along with our drinks.
The cake was a whole $9 for a thin slice, but it was good. Layers of almond sponge cake, toasted almond buttercream, toasted almonds and Amaretto. The texture of the cake was a bit hard; I wish it was fluffier. This portion should be shared, as it is a bit filling with the buttercream.
Service was alright. Hot water was refilled upon request.
Then came the bill. A 15% gratuity added because we had a group of 7. Not too happy about that. It's a dessert place! Really? 15% mandatory?!Listed in: Sweet Treats.

Wanting a late night snack late one warm night, my girlfriend and I decided to walk down to True Confections as it is one of the few late night food places that isn't serving pizza or beer around midnight.
I ended up getting a hot chocolate and a slice of pecan pie. The former was very good while the latter was just good. I would have no qualms going back, but only when I had money in my pocket as this place is not cheap. -

The giganormous factor of the cakes were still there....but the slice that they cut now have very much down sized....not so much of a "wow factor" anymore.
When my friend's multi-layer chocolate cake came...we were all like "didn't it used to be bigger?" ...hmmmm.
I had the English truffle...it was even more petit than the cake for 8$...totally not worth it.Listed in: Vancouver, BC!!!!

Okay cakes, booze, coffees and teas until midnight?? Yowza!!! Yes, these are GIANT sized pieces of cake, pie and cheesecakes but the glorious fact is you can TAKE the leftovers home!!
I had the Diplomat which was white cake with a buttercream filling. Sooo good. M had the White Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake which he ate the whole damn thing - skinny person that he is!
L had the Mocha Buttercream and E had Devils Food... all of us, except M, had leftovers....
If you aren't that hungry, then share a piece and take the rest to go! I wish we had a place like this in LA that was desserts, booze and coffees.. OPEN LATE!!! -
Review from Tanya S.
OMG!!!! The cakes in this cute little cafe are DIVINE! They're more European-style (= think butter cream) instead of (North) American-style (= think sugary frosting.) The place is kind of small & often crowded, but it's still worth a long drive or wait. They're also open late, on most nights. Great spot to chill out over cake & a beverage with friends.... or a date.

Review from Tim L.
Sometimes after dinner the night is just not done or complete without some dessert and that's when True Confections generally comes up in conversation.
With a hearty selection of cakes and pies I tend to end up with their white chocolate raspberry cheesecake. It's the perfect balance of sweet and is relatively light compared to the other cakes.
It's open late and is generally pretty crowded especially with the university crowd being close by. Parking is a little bit of a pain with it's tiny lot but there's generally some sort of spot around the neighbouring streets. -

I came here for a treat one evening with a friend (although they only serve dessert, it ended up being my dinner). I had never heard of this place before and was a little skeptical after seeing the website. Their website is due for an update.
Regardless, I was very surprised! The cakes are huge! There were a lot of choices and I had a difficult time choosing. I ended up ordering the strawberry shortcake with Earl grey tea (Mighty Leaf! Yum!). Delicious pairing. The cake wasn't too sweet and had lots of strawberries. I'm eager to go back to try something different. -
Review from Geoff B.
A pretty good place for just desserts. The cakes are of the massive diner variety, usually exceeding 5 layers. That means one slice is plenty for two people in most situations despite being sort of slender. The exotic and well crafted cakes keep me coming back. Some of their options rival what most people are capable of baking at home, so it's definately viable when time and inclination are an issue.
I like coming here for take-out, but the beverage menu amost succeeds in enticing me to stay every time. The pies appear to be a lot closer to regular sized than the cake and are mostly seasonal. I've never tried them, but if they're as good as the cake it might be worth it. The proprietor is always friendly and attentive, as an extra bonus. -

Is bigger always better? Like others have mentioned the slices are huge and can easily be shared. After working in cafes where cakes were stored in refrigerated units I was concerned that the cake would be dried out. I was pleasantly surprised as my piece of chocolate cake was still quite moist. I was having a chocolate feast so I ordered a hot chocolate as well which was actually pretty damn good.
I don't think the cakes were anything special however, and felt perhaps the gimmick was the size rather than the taste which is a major faux pas in my book. The atmosphere was also lacking and there is no warmth to the places and it distinctly lacks personality. -

I like to think of myself as a modern woman, and thus, have no problem asking a guy out on a first date if I feel he's too chicken to and/or isn't aware that he wants to date me yet. I'm gonna let you in on a little secret about where I like to take guys out on a first date: True Confections. (Ok, so it's only happened twice. I don't make a regular habit out of asking guys out). Dessert is, to me, the perfect first date spot. It's not as cliché as going for coffee or a movie, and not as formal (or long) as going for dinner. The latter is the main reason for me. It's easier to get out of it and cut the date short it isn't going well ("Er, I have to get to bed early because I volunteered to bathe cats at the pound at 6am tomorrow"). And, if you it turns out you don't have much chemistry, you can save face by playing it off as just asking a FRIEND out for dessert, not an actual date.
True Confections is a great date spot. If you have to wait, you can ooh and ahh over the gorgeous display of their cakes. My favourite are their cheesecakes, especially their tiramisu and chocolate peanut butter (one of the BEST sweet/salty food combos ever). I also love that they serve chocolate banana cream pie. Banana cream pie? Good. CHOCOLATE banana cream pie? GOOOOOD! I can find banana cream pies at a lot of places, but not many will have the (superior) chocolate version.
Haven't tried their cakes (or trifle) before but they look really pretty. Don't know if I ever will because if given the choice between cake and cheesecake/chocolate banana cream pie trumps cake, the latter always wins! -

some times, you just need cake. true confections fits the bill. while quite expensive ($24 for 2 slices), it is ridiculously delicious and satisfies late night chocolate cravings. i'm happy with take away, but eat in for a nice romantic treat once and a while.
the service is great and the windows are nice to look out onto the rainy street on a winter's night. -

I give True Confections a three star rating based mostly on my confusion. I mean, the cakes and pies are great, but there are so many other factors that really sink this place.
One, the price. It's usualy 10+ dollars for a slice of damn cake. Granted, it's the size of your face so it's probably 10 bucks worth of cake but why can they never offer a smaller portion/smaller price option. It's cute to go on a date a share a slice but the way they have things now makes sure I never get any if I'm just in the mood for some cake on my own.
Second, the quality. Granted, this problem comes from the fact that everything is made daily, which is laudable, but sometimes the stuff they serve is really not good. Their crumbles are notoriously burnt and I've had a few pieces of cake that tasted pretty gross or stale. I never know what I'm going to get and with such a hefty price tag it's tough to gamble.
So yes, definitely when all goes well this is one of the best little dessert places in Vancouver but I'd say go in prepared for a possible disappointment and definitely take a look at whatever you want before you commit to buy it. -

My friends and I were craving sweets late at night after a girls night in, and thankfully I live near this delicious place. I had passed by it SO MANY times before without even a second look, but now all I can do it stare at the ginormous cakes and delicious pies. Three of us shared two desserts and the surprise of the night was the English Trifle. We basically ignored our piece of hazelnut chocolate cake for this custardy, fruity, sponge cake-y concoction! I was even tempted to lick the bowl! (but I didn't)

If you are serious about dessert, then you must check this place out. This place is my go-to destination for cakes and desserts in Vancouver. Yeah, it's a bit pricey. Yeah, the servings are huge. But the selection of cakes, pies and cheesecakes are soooo worth coming back for again and again. The warmed chocolate pecan pie is one of my favourites, so is the seasonal strawberry shortcake and turtle cheesecake... delicious!
Perhaps since I go back and forth between Vancouver and Toronto, I truly appreciate sit-down cafes that just focus on desserts as a great thing (Toronto has few excellent, affordable dessert cafes). This is a nice place to go to with friends after a *light* dinner, or on a rainy afternoon with good company, or for grabbing a few take-out desserts to take home to a dinner party.
I've been to three of their locations - West End, Point Grey and West Van - but I've been to Point Grey just recently so I'm including my review for this location. In my years of dessert experience, all desserts and the dining experience have been consistently good. (You may have to wait quite a while at the West End location on a busy night).
The only reason why I'm giving it 4 and not 5 stars is because you really need to have some extra room to finish a serving so we typically plan ahead, or share a dessert between two people. Definitely worth a visit! I'd recommend having a cup of tea with your dessert, and consider having your dessert warmed up with a scoop of lovely vanilla bean ice cream on the side! Cheers! -

True Confections was hopping when we arrived on Saturday night. Despite the crowd, the service was fast and efficient. The cake and decaf coffee we ordered arrived within just a few minutes of being ordered. The Lemon Heaven cake was a little on the dry side and the frosting wasn't very flavourful. It came with a lemon sauce that was tart, sweet, and tasty, but without this sauce the cake itself probably wouldn't have stood up on it's own. The decaf was so strong that it most of it was still in the cup when I got up to leave. Not the best coffee or dessert that I've had, but not worth writing off either. This place is clearly popular. Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing?
