Once home to the original Trinity College at UofT in Toronto, this is park is the creme de la creme if only for the people watching.

    VIBE
Hipster chic. In the summertime this is the place to watch hipsters playing bicycle polo or hanging out on their hudson bay blankets or checkered/plaid blankets smoking weed and perhaps with a guitar. It's quite fun. I love to come here and picnic whether it's with my Chippys or Porchetta.

And is it just me or am I the only one who hasn't seen the white squirrel?!

When there's a festival or a market here, it's quite the scene. A lovely walk if anything. Fun for Nuit Blanche as well.

There's a community center too -- anyone been?

    OBLIGATORY CATCHY REMARK
The place to scene and be scene.

What an awesome park! It's got so many things clicking for it starting with a prime location, nestled between Queen and Dundas St where you're bound to find businesses that offer great food and drinks for people strolling through the park.

I was surprised by the variety of landscapes observed here from great hill slopes, huge open spaces, baseball diamonds, tennis courts, playgrounds and tons and tons of people walking dogs! And the crowds here were from a lot of backgrounds so you are not likely to feel out of place. There were also ample amounts of benches despite it being a balmy 27 degrees out in October!

Prior to this one location, TBP was just the park that was close to a few coffee shops and eateries I enjoyed, but after a proper afternoon of walking around and taking it all in, TBP feels so much larger than it is and no matter what you want to spend time doing at the park, TBP has got it all!

Exploring Toronto, I came across this park in my most recent walk in the Trinity Bellwoods area. It is an absolutely gorgeous park. Great for running, doing some from of group exercise, maybe a nice stroll or just sitting on a park bench with a coffee. It is also very well maintained. If you are in the middle of the park, you do not realize you are actually in Toronto.

If you are in the Queen West area, it is worth taking a stroll through.

I'm pretty sure that if Coolio were actually a hipster, he would have sang Hipsters Paradise about Bellwoods instead of his hard gangster lifestyle in the hard streets of LA.

Not to say that's a bad thing, because let's face it, that song is cool and so is Trinity Bellwoods.

Proving to be a bit of an urban oasis in the west side of downtown Toronto, Bellwoods has something for everyone.  Whether you're looking for a great place to take your dog, some pick up soccer, or to drink wine and talk about some obscure bands in the summer sunshine, Bellwoods is your spot.

Seriously, this place is great and if I didn't live so far east, I'd probably be here almost every day during the summer.

I moved here from Alberta a while ago, and really miss my family dogs -- I can't have a dog at the place I live at now.

I came here to lay out on the hill near the dog circle area and read a few weeks ago and at the peak of the dog traffic I counted no less than 28 dogs running around and playing together, it was great.  It was nice to just hang out and watch them all play together off-leash.

Meanwhile, there is always frisbee or softball or hackey-sack or other readers or bike rides or picnics happening at the same time. A great park.

A group of Yelp Yogi were planning an UYE: Yoga in the Park with Brunch. We couldn't decide which Park to go.... and as Yelpers a strange group of people, we decide to held the event at Trinity Bellwoods Park out of all the Parks in the downtown Core area and it was a big success.

A park is a park is a park... There are trees, benches, grass, play area... but TBP has so many good eating places within walking distance!! I am saying cafes right across the street! Brunch places that are decent that it will take me a couple of months to go through them all!?!!

Since our event was at 11 AM so mostly families and people jogging in the Park.... It was so good practice yoga underneath the warm sun and with the fresh air...........

When are we going to do that again so I can hit another brunch place or two!!

Went here for the first time the other day when a friend, who traveled all the way from Waterloo, had a little birthday picnic in the park. I knew there had to be something great about this place if my friend was choosing to brave the 401/427 Gardiner traffic just to come to Trinity Bellwood Parks.

I must admit, I was pleasantly surprised! This is a nice little park located on the Queen Streetcar line (convenient for me), but also very accessible for cyclists and motorists. The park was beaming with groups of people engaged in various leisurely Saturday afternoon activities. There are picnic tables along much green space (okay, kinda brown because it's been a dry summer - so bring a blanket to sit on) for groups to gather and hangout. It never felt too crowded, and while we were approached a few times by bottle collectors, I did not let this bother me.

I can now add this to my list of great places to just chill out in the city!

Trinity-Bellwoods is a perfect urban park. How do I know? Because in the summer it is packed with people and all of the park features are actively used.

Tennis courts, baseball diamonds, kiddie area, off-leash dog area and LOTS of space for playing disc, catch and having picnics.

It marks the boundary between Queen West and West Queen West and Dundas to the north so it benefits from an eclectic, active and attractive crowd. With Queen St to the south it also benefits from an ample number of cute shops and counters to pick up a quick bite to bring to the park and enjoy.

Trinity is great thanks to the wide variety of activities and location but it's still very much a part of the urban experience . If you are looking to escape the urban environment look to High Park or a hike through one of the river systems like Humber or the Don River.

This is a review for the playground area. Our daughter really enjoyed the variety of play structure but the selling point of course is the wading pool. She loved it and there is a staff member there keeping an eye on things. Bathrooms are a stone's throw away and there are nice shady places to sit. The grass is kind of thin and the garbage cans overflowed. One of the best parks around

Oh and my pal forget her purse here and it was still there when we returned an hour later!

    Big freakin' park!

Trinity Bellwoods is THE Toronto hot-spot outdoor area in the summer. Jocks, dog-owners and hipsters alike flock to the fields when the days are hot to laze under the trees and catch some sun.

The park includes tennis courts, baseball diamond, soccer fields, dog park, bike paths, community center with table tennis and public washrooms, plus sexy shirtless guys walking their dogs.

Easy access to transit (Queen Street Car) and heaps of bars, restaurants, coffee shops and shopping immediately nearby.

    One can hardly complain.

Along with Earl Bales, Sunny Brook, East Don, Cherry, Tommy Thompson and High Park, this is one of my favorite parks in Toronto. But this park has a special aspect: WHITE SQUIRREL!!! I love squirrels, and I used to have a pet squirrel when I was a kid. I love playing with them on campus, and they are really cute and cuddly animals. There are some albino squirrels around the park. They are rare, and you won't be able to find one anywhere else. Buy a lottery if you happen to see one.

I've walked by this park many times but finally went in.

It truly is awesome. Biggest park in Toronto, I would say. It has a chill atmosphere of everyone laying around, enjoying themselves and the weather.

The closest thing Toronto has to parks like Hyde and Regent Park.

This park is amazing for people watching. It's also a great place to come and sun yourself, or sit under a tree, or have a picnic. It's just plain great all around.

On numerous occasions while sitting by myself, reading a book (one of my favorite things to do), I have been given free beer and offered other organic mind altering substances of the smoking variety. I've met some interesting people that I would otherwise not likely encounter. And I've started to get a decent sun tan, too!!

So long as you have an open mind and an even half way friendly nature, you can't go wrong spending some time in this park when the weather permits.  It's gorgeous, and the people are fascinating.

I also jog here, and take my dog here ALL THE TIME.  Lots and lots of space to run around.

Tennis courts, baseball diamonds, a community centre, playground, volleyball/badminton court, and hockey rink.  Plenty of benches for people watching and picnics.  Plenty of field space for sexy shirtless soccer players

    This park is the best!

This is by far the best park in the city. Downtown near a 7-11 for slurpies or drink mix *wink wink* I tell people not from here its the only unofficially licenced park in the city. When drinking in this park dont be a heat bag. Sometimes the cops on bikes patrol (rarely) and if you have an open 24 on a picnic table with tons of empties you will get a ticket for sure. Otherwise if its on the DL they wont bother you. Super bonus is the old asian lady who comes and collects your empties so you can avoid a mess of empties and a heat score of booze for the cops on bikes. I love you old asian lady.

I've been going to this park for almost 20 years, the only time anything sketchy ever happened to me was when I was 17 at 2am a man in a diaper with a hospital bracelet who was shaking came up to me and my friend. We decided he was likely from CAMH (the looney hospital half a block away). I believe this was an isolated incident because I have since been there many times in the middle of the night and never encountered any CAMH escapees in diapers.

    This park = awesome.

I take my dog to this park quite often as it's in my 'hood.  It's big and there's lots of room for everyone to do whatever they want ... relax, tennis, walk there dogs, soccer, play music, and so much more!  For dog owners it's great because there is a large off-leash area.

The movie "Dog Park" was filmed there.

I love all Toronto parks, but Bellwoods is probably one of my favourites in the city and here is why:

          Conveniently located downtown and huge
          Drum circles
Naked Lesbian Soccer at midnight (ah the good old days, lol)
          Nuit blanche Chocolate Doe hunt
Capture the Flag with New Mind Space
Lots of trees to provide shade
          Toronto Squirrels
          Lots of dogs
          Skate park
          Tennis court
          Baseball diamond
          Jungle Gym

I wish there were more picnic tables in this park and it gets pretty packed on weekends so good luck finding a shady place to sit.

    3 words: Free. Tennis. Courts.

I love playing tennis out in the open air here with dogs running around and the occasional crazy person yelling nonsense, just to make things urban and interesting.

The courts aren't perfect (the ones in the rear have steel nets and potholes a plenty) and some players stay beyond their welcome but hey, there's no dress code and it's FREE!

i love this whole park but i am reviewing the offleash dog area specifically!

i am a huge fan of the people and dogs that frequent this off-leash park. dog owners here are not uptight... they don't care if your dog is neutered or not, yappy or not, or "steals" their dog's toy. people come here to be immersed in Dog World and respect and enjoy our furry best friends. if you are a like-minded person who doesn't gasp when dogs sniff shit and doesn't scream when large dogs approach you, come join the pack here!

I feel a little silly reviewing a well-known public park...

Trinity-Bellwoods is one of my favourite places in the city. I like to sit on the grassed slope and read in the sunshine when I want to be outside. When I moved to the nieghbourhood two years ago, I decided to take up jogging and T-B has been the perfect place to do this. I run in the mornings or in the dark coolness of  late evening. Despite the downtown location, I have never been bothered, harassed or attacked in all my experiences there. Certainly, you have to dodge the strollers, off-leash dogs and bikes on the paved track, but visitors to this park seem to be quite respectful of each other. The only incident of consequence that I have experienced there was when I carried an old drunk back to the group home in the west side of the park after he collapsed, inebriated, under a bench and was shouting for help. Yes, I'm too nice to those who bring trouble unto themselves.

For those joggers who like to keep track of distances, one lap of the paved path around "the pit" equals 0.7 km and a lap of the larger loop including "the pit" and Trinity Circle is 0.9 km.

Word to the wise: every second Tuesday is drum circle night at Trinity-Bellwoods. This is a special time when hippies and their ilk get together to dance, jump and spin to wild drumming and ululations, all under a thick and hazy fog of pot smoke. Essentially, if you own a tambourine and you think fire poi is coooooooool, you belong here. I make sure to keep well away from Trinity-Bellwoods on Tuesday nights. Except for when I forget it's Tuesday. Like last night. D'oh.

My friends used to live right across the street from this park and my experiences were all positive.

On Tuesday nights (I think it was Tuesday nights anyways) there was a massive drum circle that you could hear from inside my friend's place. I mean that in a good way. The drummers were so far away that I never even saw them, but the sound is unmistakable and generally quite pleasing.

Come here if you like: trees, grass, dogs, tight-rope walkers, watching Leafs practice outdoors, dogs, shinny/skating, sipping a tea/coffee and snacking on pastries from Clafouti across the way, tennis, volleyball, dogs, dogs, dogs.  Did I mention dogs?  It's the best downtown park for dogs, in my 'umble.  People will find much to like in it too.

This area used to have a sketchy reputation, and there are still some reminders as to why (like heaps of garbage in the skating rink or unsavoury - though apparently harmless - characters wandering about occasionally) - but the area has certainly gentrified in recent years, and the park now has a great urban vibe.  Say what you like about "artist" types, but I like what their presence does to neighbourhoods.

Bellwoods is one of the best all-season parks in the city. There's always something to do there, and there's always people in it. It's a nice little detour to escape Queen St., and if you lay on the grass and look up at the sun...it's divine.

In summer, the park is great for any kind of sport. My personal favourites were croquet and badminton last summer; it's also a great place to go for a run (as long as the dogs don't chase you!). Speaking of dogs, watching all the dogs play in the leash-free area is entertainment in itself.

Later at night, it's a bonfire and drinking kinda place, and playing in the kids playground after dark is good, clean fun that doesn't make you look like a total weirdo. Plus on Tuesdays there's a Farmer's Market! Tiny but convenient and awesome.

Winter = TOBOGGANING. There is a GREAT hill on the side closer to Dundas, and all you need is a Crazy Carpet and some mittens to make sure you don't freeze to death.

There's also a pool and community center in the park that are super helpful if you have kids with a lot of energy to release. Basically Bellwoods rules, and it's great that there's a park in this area of the city that everyone can use no matter how old they are.

I have friends who complain about the lack of green space in Toronto. True, you could probably navigate your way through parts and not see much grass, but try criss-crossing some of the cooler areas without stepping foot in Trinity Bellwoods.

Okay, so it's not the best park in the world, but it's one of the best urban ones we've got, mainly because of the size it takes up in the downtown core and the constant activity that lurks within, especially on summer days: dozing freelancers, students smoking some herb, groups plunking on acoustic guitars, dog walkers picking up poop with plastic bag hands, and the hot/sweaty cyclists and skateboarders who shortcut from Queen to Dundas (ph-wa, come to mama)...

My favourite part is the long path stretching from the infamous gates on Queen West, prime property for people watching and only a hop away from pretty cool places like the Done Right Inn, Squirly's, Chippy's, etc.

I have had many experiences with this park.  virtually all during a time of nice weather.

sitting and:  handling a bunch of chippies fish and chips, wondering why i keep buying these greasy goops from the sea.

lying back and:  watching friends try to juggle, try to play with the bizarre devil sticks, do handstands, maybe get an ice cream

walking and: seeing my wife in the distance becoming larger and larger as i approach her for a midday tryst.

lounging and: smoking a doobie with a good friend, talking, giggling, watching tennis players.

passing by: on the bus towards another nuit blanche event, taking in the floor of the park that looks like a desert sky with flashing little lights instead of stars, the park itself in one incarnation of the many nuit blanche events that take place there.

waiting and: dreaming of summer so i can pretend to make snow angels on the grass.

I find this place to be one of the best places to cut through, read, spend a day lounging, play soccer or baseball, go dog-spotting, whatever really.  On a sunny day it's one of the best places to be in.  As soon as the weather warms, the park comes alive on Saturday and Sundays, with people pushing strollers, walking dogs, playing around.  Oh, and there's picnic tables available for lunching, playing card or board games, or what-have-you.

Because of the size, Trinity Bellwoods tends to be home for a lot of festivals and pavilions.  Check the schedules around to see if there's anything that piques your fancy out of all of these.  Oh, and one of the best features is the outdoor hockey rink which is iced in the winter for pick-up games of shinny, which is about as Canadian as the maple trees that dot the park.  It's the perfect place to grab some fish and chips from Chippy's, eat, relax, and enjoy the day.

    Trinity Bellwoods

Last Saturday morning I woke up to the sweltering heat and all I could think of was the 5 Margheritas I drank the night before and how I wished all the singing birds and playing children in my beautiful neighborhood would SHUT THE HELL UP.
My plan to buy out the city of muzzles and place them single-handedly on every kid and canine on my Street did not seem practical so I went to Trinity Bellwoods park with my my pug instead (and no, even he wasn't wearing a muzzle).

The park is absolutely lovely, green, sweeping and full of picnicking couples, who probably picked up food from the plethora of restaurants located just across the street, enjoying the break from the hustle and bustle of the city even in the centre of it (the park is located in the trendy Queen and Bathurst area).  There is also an off-leash area where the dogs and owners congregate safely in a deep, valley-like section of the park. However, beware dog parents: DO NOT take your dog off leash anywhere else in the park or you are likely to get a ticket by an eager cop hiding within Trinity's lush greenery hoping to make his quota.

Bellwoods is, in other words, a healthy cure for a hangover and if it doesn't work, there is always Chippy's - a famous spot for Fish N' Chips - directly across the street.

Anyone who thinks Toronto doesn't have enough green space needs to go to Trinity Bellwoods Park. It's located in Queen West and sprawls from Dundas to Queen and from Crawford and Shaw to Gore Vale. This 37-acre park features beautiful tennis courts, picnic space, a sports field, and a pool.
I live right across from Trinity Bellwoods and I always make a point of walking through it whenever I can. There are always tons of people there, and thankfully, there's also lots of space. It would be a great place to have a picnic and I've seen many a Torontonian taking a nap under one of the park's countless trees. If you're looking for an escape from the concrete jungle, try this gorgeous west end park - you won't be disappointed.

I walk through this park on my way to work most days.  It's a very big park so I'll try and break it down into sections.  I will start on the South-East corner, and work my way counter clockwise around the park.

Tennis Courts: There are a series of 4 (or 6?) tennis courts that are open to the public.  The gates are never locked, because I've seen people playing there as early as 7am, and all the way until the sun goes down.  When the weather is nice, it is guaranteed to be filled with many tennis players, amateur and skilled alike.

Hockey Rink:  There's an area that is cordoned off for a hockey rink.  It's used for ball hockey in the summer and in the winter it is frozen over to act as a rink.  I'm not sure if the rink is reserved for house league games or not.

Baseball Diamond: The baseball diamond is often is use for little league games, and occasionally by older players in organized leagues as well.  There are bright stadium lights that turn on for the games, but unfortunately (and understandably) are not accessible for public use.

Farmer's Market: At the corner of Dundas at Crawford there's a small section of the park that is home to a Farmer's Markets on Tuesdays in the summer.  It usually runs until mid October.  Not sure when it opens.

Low area: There's a small stage down the hill that I've never seen in use, but I imagine is home to performance either musical or theatrical from time to time.  Also, this big section down the hill is often filled with dogs, even deep into the winter months.  In fact, the entire park is a very friendly dog environment, with many dog owners taking the opportunity to let their dogs run free.  Something to keep in mind if you are/aren't a dog person.

Community Centre: There's a community centre run by the city along the Western side of the park.  I've only been inside once, but it seems to have good facilities.  Also, I've seen an ice cream truck parked on Crawford St during many hot summer days.

The Park: Yes, there's also a great big area that has trees and some picnic tables.  People come here to throw Frisbees, read a book, have a picnic, so on and so forth.  The usual fun park things.

All in all, this is a versatile and well maintained park.  Enjoy!

I've never been more convinced that Trinity Bellwoods Park is the remnants of the crater caused by an alien crash site than after last year's Nuit Blanche.  Wandering through this park after dark is eerie enough, but wading through it at 3am in the fog?  With all kinds of people dazedly roaming around staring at creepy art installations?  Priceless.

This park offers some rare downtown hill climbing, which is great if you want to add a little switch to your workout routine (or if you just like rolling down hills).  In the midst of fall foliage season or the first blooms of spring, heading down to Trinity Bellwoods for a little nature loving is practically a requisite pilgrimage.  And while it's a little less impressive than the more Westerly High Park, you are certainly going to feel a little sigh of green relief after an afternoon's frolick (preferably after brunch to work off the Hollandaise-related fog).

This city can be so gray at times, especially if your neighborhood has more concrete than grass.  Stepping into the park for a few hours' stroll is a huge way to decompress.  The best thing is to go watch all the dogs running around, so happy to be out of their tiny confines and running about, meeting new friends and chasing them around.  Who knows, maybe you'll meet and chase a new friend too!

I have a love - hate relationship with this park. I love how close by it is to some of my favourite spots in the city. I love the Fish and Chip place across on Queen http://www.yelp.ca/biz...

The hate comes from the inability to read a book in peace, or have a moment alone with just my thoughts. As an example, last summer I attempted to tuck myself near Dundas to read in the shade of a tree; when I was rudely interrupted by some random dude who felt the need to clap his hands as he passed. He was alone and as far as I could discern he wasn't trying to get anyone's attention but mine. Maybe I'm just weird or lack experience with receiving performance accolades through passive actions, but I prefer the quiet serenity of nature then being "seen".

It is a beautiful space and well used by the locals who treasures it dearly. I can remember walking through the park as a teenager and hustling to avoid the areas previous citizens; long since run-out by the gentrification of Queen West.

I lived on Gore Vale, on the East side of Trinity Bellwoods for a year and a half, and I have to say, leaving that address was one of the harder decisions that I've had to make in my recent years.

It's a great park to run around, and there is always something happening during the spring and summer months.  Ball Tournaments, tennis [which they just finished renovating], an ice rink/ball hockey rink and the aforementioned Tuesday drum circle, brings out plenty of characters.

It's also a park that would look great on film, and many productions, both big and small have chosen Trinity for their location.

I will say that, like any park at night, you want to be aware of the people that end up following along with you or talking to you.  A buddy of mine ended up getting jumped by a dude who lived just off the north side of Trinity.

I do believe that sucker has since been locked up, though for unrelated charges. And what we got out of it, was a crap experience with some jerk police officers. Maybe I should yelp those guys.

good park for hanging out in the spring/summer especially since it's so close to downtown. you can take a break from the rush and go back feeling fresh. however, it's usually littered with loud, dirty, garbage throwing hipsters after 6 ruining the whole experience. it's not a big park but it has different sections and it seems like each section has its own cluster of assholes ready to showcase their alcoholism. that being said, this park is great in the morning and afternoon. lots of benches and space available, just watch out for dog shit.

I could easily spend an entire day just laying in the grass at this park.  It's so great to have green space like this on Queen/Dundas W.  There is a tennis court, pool, baseball diamond and greenhouse in the park.

I would say that the only downside to the park is the hippy drum circles that go down in the little pit area.  I swear to god they should make drum circles illegal.  They mostly happen at night but it's the absolute most annoying thing your ears could ever endure.

i ride my bike through trinity every day on my way to work. despite the doom & gloom feeling I get about going to work, i can't help having a goofy grin  while whizzing through the park past the elderly people doing tai chi, all the dogwalkers and exercise buffs.
i had my 30th birthday here and it goes down as my favourite birthday ever. on an illegal note, you can get away with drinking your beer in a bag without getting busted if you go down in the valley and usually there's an old asian woman there waiting to collect your empties!
i'm glad this place has remained unscathed by the city strike. it's still clean and i don't know who is taking care of putting in garbage bags in the bins but keep up the job!

this park in the summertime is heaven on earth. I live the next street over on bellwoods and this park is a big part of the reason why.
