Keep your eyes peeled for Santa sitting outside the Tree's on Granville.  No word of a lie, he's there nearly every afternoon rain or shine (except for Christmas I imagine, but I wasn't there the night of the 24th)

Tree's is great.  I haven't yet tried their cheesecake but their ginger cookies are amaaazing.  They've got pretty good apple cider too, and chai.

Tree's doesn't feel like I big ol' scary chain of a place and I like that about it.  There isn't much to be said really - it's not that special, but it's always busy, warm and inviting and isn't that what a coffee shop is supposed to be like?

As everyone says the coffee and cheesecake are good, But recently I photographed open coffee sacks stored right outside the wash rooms. Someone leaving the washroom even shook off his wet hands all over those open sacks. How hygienic  is that?

I did post about it on the FB page but it was promptly deleted so I don't know how they gonna deal with it, So I am now taking my $30 per visit back to my old coffee shop.

I've actually never set foot into this coffee shop, but I will give my 2 cents opinion about the coffee.  MEH!

It's the official "office coffee" where I work.  I drink BUCKETS of it.  8 cups on a good day, all before 1PM.

It's bitter, but not to the point that it is disgusting, like that coffee chain from Seattle, with the green logo, that has somehow fooled the world about what coffee should taste like.  You know the one I'm talking about!  Kudos to their marketing department tho!

I wouldn't be buying my coffee from Trees.

Watch out for the staff on Richards. Rude and impatient. It took about 5 minutes for them to notice I was standing there, and even after that they continued to keep talking about their night before situation. Coffee was very bitter, and over priced (but what coffee isnt now a days). Change the staff, the coffee, and i"ll go back.

With a claim to fame for having the best cheesecake in Vancouver, this bustling little coffee/sandwich shop along Granville (near Hastings) is great for people watching on a Friday afternoon!

It was packed with slow service. Our hot drinks (Americano and latte) were decent and the chocolate biscotti was very buttery! Would I come again? Ya ... sure :)

Man, I love cheesecake. There is never a time that I don't want cheesecake.

My friends brought me here, because they love it, and promised me the best cheesecake ever. I ordered a slice and an Italian Soda, and chilled out on their cute little couch with my friends.

The cheesecake was good! Not omg amazing, but good. I would go back again. My drink was good too - they don't put cream in it, though I guess you could just add it afterwards.

The decor is cute and it's a nice location. No complaints!

Jeepers! I bet this was a nice, clean place at one time, but now those decorative tree branches with about an inch of dust on them are really just gross and a bit creepy.
This space needs a going-over, a redo, an overhaul. yeech!

Now, I do see where the 'all about the cheesecake' theme comes from that Trees brags about, because there are about a thousand flavours of the stuff in there and it does look good.  But what if I can't eat cheesecake?  -too bad!

Good for a bathroom stop and maybe a cup of coffee to go.
PS. other Trees locations are much nicer, and there are other choices around here.

I really reallllly must try some cheesecake here at some point (MOCHA cheesecake omg), but no, I went with a tall latte. And it was nice and creamy, but missing that vital omph that sets it above any other regular latte.

Good view onto the street from there, great for people watching. But with Coffeebar down the road, I'd stick with trying cheesecake.

I was here with my bf & roomie a couple nights ago to pick up a cheesecake.
We ordered the small cake to take home to enjoy... it was $17.95 before taxes.
As we wait for them to pack it up, they ring us through and the total comes to about $22 or something ridiculous.  He paid for it but commented on the big price difference.
The guy just looked at him and ignored the comment saying it was taxes. Then he disappears for ages.  We look behind the counter and see him taking photos of the latte cup he just created.  We ask him we are STILL waiting for our cake which he just shrugs off saying it is getting packed.

Lucky for him, the lady came out soon after he said that to give us the cake.  Well, while we waited, we figured out the total price should only be $20.10 with tax.  So we mention that again and we try to let them know that there is something wrong with their til if they are charging the wrong prices.
His reply? "Tax is 20% no?"
    WTF?
(even with it being 20%, they would've still overcharged us!)

anyway, the point of this is, we were trying to inform them of a possible problem with their computer system and they took it as us blaming them.  what is wrong with people these days?
very unhappy with the service provided here.

end on a happy note:  the blueberry cheesecake was so delicious!!!!

First time at Trees Organic =) Place was pretty packed, fortunately timing was rad and we were able to seige a table right when we got there.
Tried three different types of cheesecakes today - The Sin, Mocha, and Blueberry. Personally, I found the blueberry my favorite, having the perfect balance of the delicate cheese and the tart bursts from the berries... but I have to admit The Sin was pretty...sin-sational! lol
Also the Chai Latte I had was incredible - very cozy on the tastebuds =)
Will definitley come back on a night when they have live music and check out some fresh local talent!

I don't know much about the world of coffee, except that I like how it tastes when I buy it from Trees. I have yet to try the Cheesecake. I'm terrified that I will fall in love with it, become addicted and grow out of all my pants.

I have, however, tried the cheese scone. They must bake everything in the mornings, because there was no way that scone could have been any fresher. My only complaint would be that it wasn't cheesy enough. But really, is there ever enough cheese?

They keep trays of baked goods out close enough to the cash desk that you can't help but notice how GIGANTIC they all are when you're paying. I want to steal their muffin trays and have a fatty picnic.

Oh, yeah, and they make a damn good mocha!

The seeds of every revolution were germinated in a coffee shop. That's why, in the 16th Century, coffeehouses were considered taboo and banned outright in Mecca and other cities.

In 1773 American colonists spilled all their English tea into Boston Harbour and had nothing left to drink but coffee. This jolt of java led to the American Revolution and the expulsion of the totalitarian teatotalers.

Nothing would make me happier for Vancouver than to rise up and drive the big chain coffee shops out of town for crimes against caffeine. And I will join this cafe d'etat. Together we can usher in an era of percolated paradise.

But there are collaborators among us. Vancouver's Benedict Arnold is Trees.

A cafe that serves a product that is local, independently and ethically produced yet tastes so vile that it makes the swill served by the big chains seem flavourful. It's very sinister.

This must be a coffee counter-conspiracy. How can a cafe that makes such great cheesecake serve such horrible coffee? I dunno, but in the meantime I will be a few blocks away enjoying a proper cup of coffee. Don't start the revolution without me.

    Vigilance!

I used to walk by this shop almost daily on my way to work, but it wasn't until a few weeks ago that I finally went inside. I don't know what took me so long; I knew the place must be good since I always saw the same people hanging around. (Seriously, has anyone else noticed the older guy with the white beard? He's ALWAYS sitting out front!)

I had been hanging around with one of my girlfriends, and we decided to go somewhere for a chai latté. I'm normally pretty picky when it comes to chais, but theirs is damn good. It's got the perfect level of spiciness and sweetness. Oh baby, I wish I was drinking one right now.... On top of that, I ordered my chai with soy milk (regular milk makes my stomach cry) and the barista steamed it beautifully, which is quite a feat for soy milk.

When we were there, they had this awesome looking apple crumble cheesecake, and they also had homemade peanut butter cups in the pastry case. I haven't tried either -yet. I'm running the BMO half-marathon in May, and I promised myself that after I was finished, I would go there to have a slice of cheesecake AND a peanut butter cup. Damn right I'll deserve those!

Really bad coffee, I order a cappuccino, it was dull, lacked texture, and had a burnt taste. The only positive their "Trees" size serving in huge. The cheesecake are somewhat on the expensive side, I had a "Sin cheesecake" which was pretty average considering this place was voted Vancouver best cheesecake. It was different and had a spongy cake-like base layer instead of a biscuity base, and was kind of soggy.
Clean and lot of sitting space. Free Wi-Fi. They also have live music on some nights.

Not for the quality of the great cheesecake, not for the freshness of their delicious sandwiches... exclusively for the snarkiness, not to say rudeness of the staff I downgrade this place to three stars. Never once have I been served here in a friendly way, heck any Starbucks in town has more cheerful staff than this Tree's location.

I love their products but I HATE their attitute and will visit the Yaletown location from now on to see if it is better there.

On a side note, 5$ for a plain Minute Maid orange juice (small 4$, larger 5$) is a bit over the top, don't you think?

    Cheers

All hail me, the first duchess of this Trees Organic!

I love this coffeeshop! It is small, cozy, clean, and great for small group gatherings or solo sipping. It has great coffee -you know coffee is good when you can still drink it when it has gone cold. It also serves tea -real tea leaves, none of that pre-packaged teabag crap that comes with a string and a tag stapled on! This awesome tea and coffee house also serves real food -like sandwiches and not just baked goods, although they have amazing cheesecake (according to my twin who loves the New York styled cheesecake).

Trees is amazing, not only because the staff is friendly and knowrledgeable, and they serve awesome coffee that they roast right in the shop, and that they serve REAL loose leaf teas, and that they have a great food/ pastry selection, but because they are also VEGAN friendly: they have soymilk option for lattes, a vegan power cookie (très good -my fave), a delicious vegan scone, and an ultra healthy vegan gluten-free fruit and nut bar. Once upon a time, they had vegan cheesecakes, but they don't anymore... Oh well, you can't win all the time... I still love this shop, even though they gave the vegan cheesecake the axe before I had the chance to try it.

NOTE: this is the BEST Trees in the downtown Vancouver area, the other ones are ok, but they are not vegan friendly to this shop's extent.

Trees was like a coffeehouse dream come true.  It was pouring rain, but this place was warm and inviting, with plenty of open tables.  My cheap ($4) breakfast calzone came with a super yummy side salad with nuts.  My hot chocolate was to die for and cured my winter blues (that night).  The cookie was large; it wasn't that great but the size made up for it (also just that night).  Free samples of cheesecake were passed around.  The service was excellent, so friendly and on point.  Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that I would definitely come back again and again, except...

... what is that smell?  Something is burning.  Nevermind, it will go away.  15 minutes later... what is that smell?  That definitely smells like burning popcorn.  Or burning coffee beans.  Either way it's tackling my senses and smelling up my clothes and hair like all the times I've ever gone to Korean BBQ.  But this is worse because it does not smell sweet.  Anyway.  This thought process happened about two more times and I was just distracted, confused, and so unhappy.

So I'm not sure if Trees just happened to be burning coffee beans all night just that one time (every 15 minutes) or if it happens every day.  Either way, I'm not going to find out.  I spent a good hour there and I won't be spending another.  I smelled like burnt popcorn all the way home.  Good thing I didn't have any pompous gala to attend after or that really would have been embarrassing.

I found this place when I was downtown shopping and needed a little resting time.  I also needed to send a few important messages.  I had a latte - very good.  But I also used the bathroom.  It was PERFECT!  Clean, well appointed, bright etc.  The best bathroom I've ever used in a public eatery.  I didn't try their food (it looked great).  I will always return to this spot when shopping just for the cleanliness.

I was drawn in by the "Voted best cheesecake in Vancouver" claim. Having sampled 3 different slices (shared within the group), I found them to be pretty plain and indistinctive. A worthwhile dessert place is so rare. Pay a premium for individual portions and fancy whip cream/syrup presentation. Would've done just as well at Safeway at half the price. Probably won't bother coming back for their so called "best cheesecake".

The other day strolling through Vancouver's downtown I found this place, claiming with a noticeable poster "Best Cheesecake in Vancouver". I decided to see if they lived up the claim.

A walk-in coffee shop, comfortable atmosphere. Decided to try a basic New York cheesecake (6 CAD) with strawberry sauce (+1 CAD). An ice-cold water served at the other side of the bar (free) accompanied the cheesecake (after paying 7.7 CAD for a slice of cake, HST included, I considered to be a sane decision).

The taste of the cheesecake is quite good. Not frozen, of course, with a fluffy consistency and creamy sensation. Not quite as a mousse, but similar. The cookie crumb crust in the bottom was also very soft. The strawberry sauce tasted as expected, if not a little cold.

Very nice cheesecake, but not the best I had in my life. I rate it 3 stars because of the price; I could have a hyper delicious full meal in some other places in Vancouver for that.

In a nutshell, I visit Trees when I'm looking for a change of pace and taste from my regular coffee faves in this part of downtown. I don't know why, but I'm always expecting better. The americano here is simply not up to par and has never been. Almost no crema and usually prepared much too quickly.

    * Toto, we ain't in NY anymore! *

I stopped in to try out the NY Cheesecake.  I miss NY Cheesecake from my childhood and figured I would give it a shot.

The cheesecake itself was ok, but not as dense as I remember from my childhood.  It also didn't have the distinctive sour cream taste I expected.   I'm not really sure why they call it a NY Cheesecake.  It was ok, but nothing that special.

The graham cracker crust had also gotten a bit too soggy (as if the entire cheesecake had been frozen and then thawed).  It was plated with chocolate sauce and caramel sauce.  Both sauces had a very commercial artificial taste.  There were also two puffs of whipped cream which was way too airy for my taste.

Service was overly confused as well.  They created a mistaken plate for the woman that ordered before me (don't know what led to that), and that seemed to screw up their whole system.  So they never plated my cheesecake until I finally asked what happened to it after seeing the people that ordered after me get theirs.

Combine the "meh" dessert, the "meh" service, and the high price of $6.29 for a small slice of cheesecake, and it gives a grand total of 2 stars and a NY salute!

Went during my trip to Vancouver (love the city).  I would probably rate it highier if i tried more of their stuff, but there is only so much I can eat when I am eating something different every hour.

I tried the Pumpkin Cheesecake, and the caramel latte.  I was never a fan of pumpkin.... BUT I didn't hate the cheesecake, that means it was good right?  The caramel latte I liked, it was not too sweet but still had a strong flavor of caramel. (cheesecake: D+, Coffee: B-)

The location is in downtown, so the existence of homeless peeps outside the cafe is inevitable.  Which unfortunately screws the atmosphere up REALLY well.

The layout of the cafe felt homely, and welcoming.  The cafe is a little small, so walking around is a tad hard... but who needs to walk around in a cafe unless you are heading to the restroom.

I like the place.... probably would give it four star if I actually live there.

I've only been in here once to get cheesecake. No drinks.

I heard that they had some amazing cheesecake, but you have to know, I'm not a huge cheesecake fan. It's a little over indulgent and too rich sometimes.

I had a slice of their dulce de leche cheesecake, which is caramel. They put it on a massive plate and put on some very flat whipped cream on the side (flat like it's too liquidy and doesn't hold shape). Okay, so far, not so impressed. The cheesecake slice was very big, too big for me to really enjoy cause after halfway through I felt like I was just stuffing my mouth with it. The slice was good, very creamy, very rich (too rich for me), sweet but not too sweet, I was impressed. Maybe if it were presented better than it would've been nicer since you're going to pay almost 7 bucks for a slice of cheesecake.

Since I'm not a fan of cheesecake I probably won't be returning for that, maybe for drinks. I would spend my dessert money elsewhere (like Pacific Culinary Institute).

Cheesecakes are for yes.  That's why when I heard Trees' specialty was their many varieties of cheesecakes, I just couldn't say no.  I met up with friends here for...well, I would say coffee, but we were just here for the cheesecake, to be honest.

The decor is too cute, with branches hanging above coffee drinkers' heads, and although it was busy we were able to snag a table.  I got a cup of hot chocolate, which was so filled to the brim with cocoa-y goodness I had to be careful not to spill it everywhere.  As for the cheesecake?  Mmmm.  I like strawberry, and rhubarb, and cheesecake--and this didn't disappoint in the slightest.

The construction on Granville is kind of a pain, but I was able to find it well enough.  Just ignore the gigantic earth-mover backing up right outside the window and experience the yum.

Their cheesecakes were pretty delicious, especially since they make everything in house.  I was especially impressed that they puree their own mangoes for the mango cheesecake and don't used canned indian mango pulp as a lot of places do.

I wasn't super impressed that their crust was soggy.

The ambience of the place inside is really nice. And you can't even tell there is a ton of construction going on outside unless you look.  But yeah, outside is a mess. Can't wait till Canada Line construction is complete.

Trees Organic Coffee has been a family run staple on downtown Vancouver's Granville Street for over a decade. Reportedly, it was a pioneer in serving fair-trade and organic coffees in the city. These days, the café also offers shade-grown, hand-picked, and bird-friendly coffee, all freshly roasted on site in small batches to ensure a fresh, high-quality product.

Besides the great java, Trees is notorious for its chock-full-of-yummy cheesecake. Over the years, I've tried my fair share of flavours -- including classic New York (my personal fave) and "The Sin" (a devilish mix of cherry and chocolate) -- and can say with complete confidence it may just be the best cheesecake I've tasted in the city -- creamy and velvety, with tons of flavour and (depending on the type you choose) big bursts of fruit buried inside every bite.

Breakfast items are also offered at Trees. But I'd order that cheesecake any old time of the day!

I was there with dessert meetup group. We ordered all lattes and cheesecakes (we had coupons for free lattes). It was just delicious. Latte so tasty and foamy, cheesecake so tender and exquisite :) I liked the place as well. I returned there several times, always was satisfied....
It was my favorite coffee until I tried Caffe Vergnano.
Vergnano is now my number one, and Trees Organic number two.

My latte was a solid four star with a lil froth on top.
Velvety and smooth... Oh wait, that was just my reflection in the mirror.
    Ohhhhhhhhhh zing!

Their face sized cookies are a steal at $1.79.

Many travellers work at this cafe, from Australia, Germany, Mexico, and leave before too long, usually.  It's family-run and they have catering services for lunches, usually with their sandwhiches and coffees.

The cheesecakes are all beautiful, but eat slowly... your slice will disappear fast! A slice is 6$, a whole cake 70$. My favourite is chocolate or raspberry. I personally hate the sandwhiches! Mochas, my drink of choice, is $4 for a med. Organic coffee is roasted in house. They have big paninis here, but I just can't stand them, too much dryish bread. As a side note I've hated every panini I've ever had with a most furious passion (i.e. Brioche) Don't let the train construction push you away!

This place is conveniently located right beside the Waterfront Canada Line station (Pender Exit). I walk by everyday to and from work and I finally decided to try it. What captured me was their signage stating "Voted Vancouver's Best Cheesecake"...

They were right, the cheesecake was so fresh and delicious! We ordered a slice of the banana white chocolate and their March/April special almond flavour. The slice was rather large, served with a nice swirl of chocolate, caramel and whip cream. The almond one was just delicious! At first I thought it was a strange cheesecake flavour, but they have perfected it! It's a must try. There were fresh banana pieces in the other, which was good, but not all may like it.

They also served daily fresh baked muffins, scones, bagels, cookies, buns, etc. We got 2 muffins to go and those were yummy too! I'll have to return for lunch as they have soups, salads, and sandwiches.

The staff was great, he offered us complimentary coffee too. The atmosphere was very relaxing, and there's live music on various evenings.

    Go try!!!!

I've only been here in the morning- so I haven't had the cheesecake.  But that's all I ever hear about.  People seem to love it.

What I can say is that the cafe mocha is good.  The espresso blends well with the chocolate to give a rich, but not stomach-ache inducing, sweetness.

The staff here is extremely friendly and seem to enjoy working together.  They carry on conversations (extending past the weather) with customers, while keeping the drinks coming and line moving.  I appreciate that.

There's not a ton of seating here- maybe 5 small tables, and a little bar in the window (questionably small stools).  Not many plugs, for those who like to campout on the ibook.

I'm waiting for the perfect afternoon, where I can sample one of the famous cheesecake flavors!

So get this..... one of our co-workers was getting married and I decided to go pick up a cheesecake at trees to celebrate because she loves cheesecake and she's never tried this....

being "the best cheesecake" in town, I happily strolled in to the options that they had in the back counter. I knew they were expensive... but not THIS expensive. The 10" standard is $42... but their speciality one - the sin, which consisted of belgian chocolate with sour cherries was maxed at $52...... that's EXPENSIVE.

Took me a while to decide but ultimately it was a celebration so why not right? and if it's going to be that expensive.. I can only imagine how good it would taste. Good thing I was early during the day.. there were still bakers in the kitchen who could write on the cake....

So i tell the gentleman at the counter that I was getting the sin cheesecake and he punches it in at $42.... I'm not going to complain right - it's not my fault and it's still a lot of money.... another guy noticed the mistake (drats!).. and as he was changing the price to charge me accordingly... all i can hear out of his mouth was:

"52 dollars? Really? Are you serious?"
"wow... that is sooooooo expensive.. I can't believe it costs that much money"
"that one is already 42.. but this is even more expensive"...
you know.. something along those lines which makes me think:

"oh crap.. it's so expensive.. should I be getting this? really.. should I get this.. it's is $52 ......... ugh.. maybe I should think this over"

It was so uncomfortable.. I wanted to back out... his words seemed like he was trying to sway me into NOT getting the cheesecake.

My guess is the manager heard him because she was giving him a pep talk afterwards.........

Thank goodness the cheesecake was delicious, just as I had expected.. but seriously.. bad bad salesman skills.

So i had Sunday off and decided to familiarize myself with the city and so my adventure began.  I got off the Waterfront train and cam out on Granville to see Trees Organic Coffee across the street.  Since it was raining I though I'd get some chai.  The atmosphere is really old school, makes you want to sit here and write a novel, don't expect to be Kafka, although Kafka never had the Jersey Shore for inpiration.

The Chai latte and it was good,  I don't think it was as sweet as I usually have it, which is a good and a bad thing I guess.  I would prefer it a little bit sweeter but overall I liked it.

I wish I didn't eat so much at Whole Foods or I would have definitely tried the award winning cheesecake.  I'll have to come back so expect an update.

The best cheesecake in town?  Not sure about that.. but it is definitely up there on my list! :) The cheesecake was soft, creamy and had a graham cookie crust.  I had the original cheesecake with strawberry sauce.  A bit pricey, considering it being a coffee house and not a dessert place.  Nevertheless, a must try!

Trees Organic Coffee is amazing. Everything just seems so fresh and good for you. Sure, right now there is some crazy construction going on for the sky train, so Trees is a little bit less visible, and blocked off from the other side of the street - but honestly, it's still as busy as ever.

The blueberry cheesecake is to die for. And they have the hugest selections of tea. You can't just go in and say that you want green tea, because they have so many different kinds of green tea. And of course, the organic coffee is simply delectable!
