This hotel has some of the best pricing in the area, even over other hotels in the same branding in Ottawa.  (Hint - look for the multi-day, non-refundable rates.)

Overall the hotel is fine - it's a solid A-OK.  The facility is older.  The rooms are on the smallish side.  The bathrooms are in good shape, but definately older style and small.

The hotel is quiet.  The staff are courteous.  The hotel is well located to the 417 highway, and easy access (10 minutes?) to downtown.  The free wireless internet was reliable and strong from our particular room.

My only complaint:  saggy mattresses.  I kept sliding to the middle.  Not ideal, but also not uncomfortable.   A minor annoyance to me - however, if that would drive you crazy, you may want to check if they've resolved that issue before booking in here.

They have a waterpark on site, though we didn't try it.  Might make it a fun family weekend if you've got kids in the 8 to 15 year range.

    Would I return?  Yes
Would I recommend?  Yes - but I'd not the mattress issue.

I tend to support Wyndham properties - in the US this includes Travelodge, but little did I know this was NOT the case in Canada.  Regardless, the location was pretty good so I probably would have stayed here even if I had known.

That stated, what happened on my arrival would prevent me from EVER staying here again or from recommending it to anyone.  First, they charged me before I arrived - and they charged me SIX times claiming that I had reserved SIX rooms for that evening.  Sure - that seems logical right, that I would reserve six seperate rooms utilizing six different transactions on the same credit card as opposed to simply buying six rooms all at once on that card.

Okay, so taking the above into mind, even if this did happen (which it did not according to my e-mail records and reservation records made through Wyndham Rewards....y'know, the Wyndham the are supposedly not part of in Canada) one would obviously assume this was a computer glitch - right?  NOPE!  Instead they charged my card and then told me I was wrong and that I'd have to pay a roaming charge on my cellular phone to fix it.

So I call, the lady on the phone was competent (the same cannot be said for the people at the hotel) and tells me they'd "investigate" but I should talk to the Manager on Monday morning - two days later and the day we would be checking out.

While the stay was uneventful (even accounting for the antiquated equipment in the 90 degree Farenheit gym) flash forward to Monday when the Manager, Daniel Greer, a condescending 30-something in a suit who did not appear capable of a smile or any form of humor, literally told me I was "wrong" and that I "had made six reservations" finally showed up after being called by the front desk staff fifteen minutes prior....

Awful from beginning to end - even if they did "fix" MY mistake.

We were attending a wedding at this hotel and booked rooms here for convenience.  It also helped that we got a great rate for being guests at the wedding.

We had to phone (long distance) numerous times before we were able to make our reservations.  We would call the hotel and ask to make a reservation, at which time they would transfer us to the Travelodge main office, and then the main office told us we had to speak with the hotel staff directly to get the group rate.  We asked to be transferred back to the hotel, but for some reason that wasn't a possibility.  After playing this game a few times, we realized our first words to the hotel staff need to be, "DON'T TRANSFER ME!".  We then finally had the opportunity to explain the loophole in their reservation system, and we eventually succeeded!

To be fair to Travelodge, I didn't hear about anyone else having this problem.  I guess I just don't communicate very well.

The rooms were just okay.  The sofa-bed was "out of order" which was hugely inconvenient.  Some of us ended up on the floor.  It's definitely an older building, but it was still clean.

The best part of the hotel is the water park.  Yes, it's more than just a pool.  Every so many minutes, the tidal waves start up and the kids go crazy!  There's also a waterslide which is meant for kids, but they let the adults use it too.  The water park facilities are cautiously monitored by the hotel staff, which was reassuring.  There was also a small hot tub for adults.  I didn't use the tiny gym facilities.  In fact, our room was close to the gym and we never saw anybody using it.

I would only recommend the water park section of this hotel, which unfortunately requires a room key to access.  The location was a bit out of the way if you want to do anything in Ottawa.  I strolled through the small mall just across the street, but the only purchase I made was a latté.

Cool concept, but I probably wouldn't stay there again.
