Review from Damien F.
Love, love, love this place. We visited hungry after a day of skiing. Started with a big bowl of PEI mussels. I have been to PEI and honestly, these mussels were the real deal - they were huge and meaty in a delightful sauce....wonderful.
The bread, oh the bread..... We had to ask where the got it from - it comes in uncooked from Vancouver.... it rocks.
I had the salmon dish for my mains - wonderful, it had a lovely rub (wasn't so keen on having the skin chopped on top of it).
Our Waitress was heavily pregnant and awesome (having her first child - as opposed to the waitress who is pregnant with her second child!).
Great place, great service...we'll be back. -

Worst Italian meal I've had!
The milk-fed veal was too tough to cut. When I brought this to the attention of the Manager, he replied, "I was afraid of that."
They replaced the meal with veal scaloppini - which was good, but didn't replace the more expensive milk-fed veal on the bill with the less expensive veal scaloppini. Left a bad taste in my mouth. Won't go back. -

Another good restaurant in the village, but expensive.
The entrance is a little weird, walking past the pool, but we eventually found it off the main village strip. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, though our table was right in the middle of traffic and I had to squeeze myself toward the table a little to allow all the servers hustling behind me through.
We shared some prosciutto to start and it was good. I had the ahi tuna as my main course, but it left something to be desired. While I devoured the whole thing (it's tuna after all and I was skiing all day!) the pasta dishes were a better choice. Of the samples I had of everyone else's dishes, the chorizo pasta was great with a spicy and flavorful red sauce. -

I went here on Friday night and was very happy with everything overall.
We had a reservation for 8 and were a couple minutes late. There was no problem and they brought us right to a nice table by the window. The restaurant is a little bit cramped but that kind of adds to the authentic trattoria atmosphere. The waitress was very friendly and the food and drinks came very quickly.
We had the prawn cakes and the special asparagus and roasted garlic soup to start. Both were delicious. The soup was smooth and a little spicy from the garlic. The prawn cakes were super crispy on the outside but tender and juicy on the inside, and came with three different kinds of sauce on the side.
For our mains we had a duck breast (Special) and the pappardelle with veal and wild mushrooms. The duck breast was quite good but nothing special. The pasta was fantastic!! The veal was melt-in-your mouth and it was complemented with a yummy cream sauce, fresh basil and tons of wild mushrooms. I am still fantasizing about it days later.
For dessert we had the creme brule which was also really good. Creamy and fresh tasting and perfectly burnt on the top with lots of vanilla. -

My first time trying the Umberto restaurants, and it was a good first experience.
We came on a Friday night, with reservations. Having a group of 10, we were seated right away, but placed right behind another large group. This is my only complaint for the night-our tables were so close to each other that our server can't even walk in between the tables. The other table was quite loud too, which made our dinner conversation difficult.
Our server greeted us immediately, and made sure she got all our drink orders. We ordered bottles of wine to share.
For food, we ordered antipasto platters, and tuna carpaccio. For the main, I got a Linguine a la Indiana, a pasta with chicken, red peppers, pinenuts, raisins, and a creamy curry sauce.
The antipasto had a mix of vegetables, cheese, and meats. Nothing really special. The tuna carpaccio was fresh, and there was a light drizzle of dressing on top. The pasta came in a large portion. There were lots of chicken pieces, and the curry sauce was delicious.A more sweeter than spicy curry, the whole dish went together well with the texture of the pinenuts and the sweetness of the raisins. I enjoyed this dish a lot. The pasta was perfect in texture, cooked al dente. The food did take a bit longer than usual to arrive, but there were large groups in the restaurant.
We were simply too full to try their desserts, but one that caught my eye was a blueberry pavlova. Guess I'll just have to visit them again..... -

This has long been my favorite Whistler restaurant, and after a year away, I'm pleased to discover it is as amazing as ever.
A group of us came in for lunch, and started with mimosas and ceasars. After ordering a few bottles of wine, we knew we were headlong into the makings of a three hour lunch extraordinaire. Between our table we ended up with smoked salmon, beef carpaccio, and tuna tartare. (DIVINE.) The Mushroom soup was also hearty. Another table mate enjoyed the butternut squash soup.
Everyone ordered one of the generous pasta entrées (big portions; which after all our appies, even half the men didn't finish,) and half the dessert menu between us (all good, especially the tiramisu.)
Alas, we had adventures to attend to in the village, so finished off the meal with, what else, Bailey's iced coffee.
All around great experience. -

We ordered warm cambozola crostini and squash and yam soup as appetizers, with the prawns & scallops main course to share. The appetizers were very good and the prawns in the main course were succulent and tender, but the scallops were dry, tough, and chewy, which made for an awful combination. We also had to wait ages for the main course to arrive--about 45 minutes, I think. We were just about to go ask if they had forgotten about us when it finally arrived. That and the poor combination of the prawns and scallops pretty much ruined the experience.
It's a shame because the interior design and menu design looked quite good. This could be an excellent restaurant if they tried harder. -

For my main course I chose veal lasagna, and liked it better than the more adventurous pastas the rest of my family chose, such as spicy seafood spaghetti and a rather strange curry chicken linguine dish. In short, I was more impressed by the "appys" (how do you spell that?) than by the entrées -- particularly the prosciutto with cheese and kalamata olives.
N.B. It was nice to sample the chicken tortellini, but I think a whole plate of it would be a bit dull. Go for something with more flavours!
Their freshly baked bread is great :-) -

I had a nice evening at umberto's last week. our server was fantastic but the food left a little to be desired. $20 appetizers and $40 entrees should blow me away, and umberto's missed the mark.
I had a beef tenderloin carpaccio which was pretty great except for the enormous drizzling of mayonaise on the beef, which dominated the flavor. my main was a roasted rack of lamb with quinoa (the best part of the dish) and roasted winter veggies. the veggies were undercooked and the lamb was underseasoned. desert was a trio of chocolate dishes which were all fantastic and beautifully presented. -

4 stars seriously? c'mon people! this place is classic mediocrity at top shelf prices. the kind that leaves me feeling totally cheated! we had the halibut cheeks special which was the worst prepared (overcooked, which is unforgivable to me!) halibut cheeks i've ever had, a couple of uninspired salads & a mediocre soup. the waitress was very sweet but i really don't want to be spending these kind of bucks on this kind of food. i'd much rather go to a divey place with good food or Araxi where we did spend the same $$ the previous evening & had a truly stellar experience

I've been to Umberto's once with family years ago, and went again this last summer with my boyfriend. The food was pretty good, which you would expect for the price you're paying.
Unfortunately, the night we visited was very busy, and the kitchen was way behind. The staff was good about making sure we were comfortable, but it just took way too long.
Great atmosphere, pretty intimate. We may go again, but we'll make sure they're not too busy first. -

I took my very picky parents here at the recommendation of a hotel clerk and they loved it. They are both great cooks and well traveled so they know good food. The prices were high, but server offered to split a salad that turned out to be very large. My father had two very large appetizers and was happy. The service was friendly and professional. When I have an expensive mea, I want nice tablecloths, a beautifully decorated restaurant, and elegant table service. Trattoria di Umberto has all that and really wonderful, fresh food.

This place is geat. IMHO, its hard to get a great meal at Whistler and you usually end up overpaying. But Umberto's (the trattoria) always delivers. I prefer the past dishes more than their mains but my wife loves their osso buco. Last night we had another great meal. Tuscan bean soup was tastey, the rabbit ragu fantastic, and the pesto linguine was really, really good. Caesar salads, while nothing special, were good and big - perfect after a big day. Bar seats are a great place to eat as they overlook all the action in the open kitchen. If you are visiting Whistler, definitely grab a bite here.

am a BIG fan because of the Bolognese sauce! I ate it twice for lunch this week and ate every morsel. even though it could serve 2 people easily. I had a Prosciutto Di Parma appetizer that was lovely and simple with shaved parmigiano reggiano, lemon and cracked pepper. I also bought the Umberto Cookbook so I can try to replicate the Bolognese and Gnocchi (from their other restaurant Il Caminetto) at home. The service at Trattoria is very good and the wine-by-the-glass list had lovely options. Trattoria is more rustic and casual than Il Caminetto Di Umberto which is also a very good Italian restaurant but has its varied opinions.

Exceptional food. Everything painstakingly prepared. Wonderful. I had the special, which was a spicey ragout with sausage and mushrooms. The squash soup and tomato soup were scrumptious.

The name of this restaurant is actually Trattoria di Umberto. We went with a group and liked it very much. We started with a large plate of mostly vegetable antipasto which was fresh and well prepared, followed by a nice green salad with a tasty vinaigrette. I then had delicious solefish (black cod) with a lovely light creamy sauce. Fantastic. This dish was ordered by many in our party and well received. The gelato and sorbet served at dessert was excellent. We would return on our own.

Nothing special here. We arrived and the place was packed. We had a reservation but still had to wait about 30 minutes. After we were seated we were obviously forgotten as everything from ordering to bringing the food was just lagging. Food is just your basic italian that you can have at about thousands of Italian restaurants across the country. Seriously I just don't understand what the buzz about this place is.

Clearly the hidden gem of Whistler..... People, you will long remember the experience long after you forget the price you paid for quality.....IF YOU DO THE FOLLOWING!!!! go for lunch, SIT ON THE BAR!!!!! talk to Greg the Exec. Chef, ask what he recommends. I always order the Antipasto...every chef there makes it different. If you are lucky enough to have Greg make it and ask for his fabulous version, you will be in for a treat.....have a glass, break some bread, ask for small dish of basalmic reduction/EVOO for bread dipping and watch the show. Bar overlooks the kitchen. If you are lucky enough to have Jay be your server, he will take great care of you too. You'll love it...but if you don't sit on the kitchen bar, it would be like going to a Benihana and ordering take out....the experience requires you to watch and talk with the chefs....don't go to the Trat if you are not interested in great food. There is a 7-11 and an old spaghetti factory for you in Whistler, save your money and go there....BUT for true foodies, you MUST go to the Trat!!!!

This place exceeded my expectations. Great service, decent wine list and extensive menu - especially the pasta options. The pesto was house made and fabulous.

If I could give them 3.75 stars, I think it'd be perfect. I don't want to discredit how good the food was, which I guess is the whole point of why you go to a restaurant in the first place, but personally if I'm paying a lot for it I expect it to come with top-notch service as well, and this place did not deliver. The waitress was nice enough I guess, but nowhere should you feel like you're being an inconvenience when you're the one paying. That being said, the BC merlot I ordered was so good that we splurged for a bottle of it, even though it was way above the price I'd normally pay for at a restaurant. The meals were fantastic - we started with the goat cheese salad, and after that I had the cannelloni which may have been the table favorite, two people had the chicken and sausage curry over pasta, and one person went with the rack of lamb. We walked away full and happy, albeit slightly broke.
