For me there are few stores that compare service wise to Trader Joe's!
The staff is always friendly and helpful and I never wait long in a line.
The produce and baked goods are always fresh and you can't beat the prices and selection on the wine and beers!
The sauces can be hit or miss but overall, they have great products! -

Great service. I've ordered cases of wine from this Trader Joe's for our upcoming wedding. Tom from the staff made many great suggestions of inexpensive wine to try and the staff was very helpful in placing special orders that are turned around in a matter of days.

I'm kinda caught on this review because Aldi just bought the company out about a year ago. I like this place but food can be pricey without reason.

I've driven past this location several times but never came in until today when I wanted to swing by and pick up some things for lunch. This is definitely the largest Trader Joe's I've ever been to! The selection of vegetables was also much larger than I expected (and more varied) and the aisles were wide and spacious. The sample counter had a lot of room around it for customers, and the employees were super friendly. The cashier also had no problem waiting for me when I ran out to my car to get payment (I brought the wrong card in with me). Fantastic.

Trader Joe's wins the crown--Kerrygold Irish butter at $2.79 per eight-ounce package. TWO SEVENTY-NINE. That's less than HALF the ludicrous six bucks which the Jewelz charge.
And this store is even on my direct route home from work. Congratulations, Trader Joe's. You have secured my undying loyalty...at least when it comes to butter.Listed in: In Search Of...Whoopie Pies, Kerrygold Irish Butter

We end up here at least once a week these days. We always get trapped picking up a ton of things even if we're just there for blueberries. The blueberries here are really good btw. My wife makes us come here just for these sometimes.
I always try to pick up a new cheese here. They have a great selection with good pricing. My latest winner was the double cream gouda. Yes, double cream. Tasty with an incredible consistency. Their olive tapenades, hummus, and dips are all worth checking out. Some other favorites are the juice blends, pear cider, fruit bars, really there are too many to list.
This is always a good place to try something different and new. -

I no longer shop here quite as often, but when I do, it is always a pleasant experience. We now use their shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, which we really like.
As of the summer of 2011, they no longer carry the Niman Ranch meats. I am very sad about this! I am seeing some local produce here.
Employees continue to be relentlessly upbeat, cheerful, and friendly!1 Previous Review: Show all »

If there was a grocery shangri-la, this is it. A fun place to shop, and very easy on the wallet too. The produce is always fresh and top quality. The selection of meats and cheeses is outstanding. And many of their products are free from chemical preservatives and/or organically grown. I love the pretzel breadsticks and their frozen food section....what a inventive and great selection of frozen foods! The Pizza Olympiad is outstanding! And the cash register/check out people are very friendly too.

I love the stores for several reasons. It is easy to get through the store in a short time while finding everything I want. If I can't find something there is always someone within close range to help me. Employees go out of their way to help. Usually the cashier asks if you found everything you were looking for. If not they call for help before you leave the store.
The prices are great. I can always trust that the products they carry are excellent and if I am not satisfied they will take the product back with no hassle. They continue to add new items to the store and let you know with a newsletter. -

Trader Joe's = snack shopping heaven.
I never leave here with actual food -- no well-balanced 3 meals a day for me. I do end up leaving with a lot of snacks though. Their have a ridiculous selection of dried fruits - mangosteen and pomelo?! Am I am Asia or something? I love it. The pumpernickel pretzels are to die for. And the frozen section?! I die. I have pithivier, edamame, and smoked salmon and spinach crepes in the freezer right now... and this is me showing shopping restraint. Make sure to pick up some bottles of their unsweetened green tea (the orange/bergamot one is lovely) in case you get thirsty from all the snacking.
JN loves the wine selection and fruit leathers, and we both love trying the samples.
The staff are almost as cute (and sooo friendly!) as the little variantions of "Trader Joe's" logos on the different treats. Trader Joe San on the Japanese items and Trader Guiseppe on the Italian ones? How adorable!Listed in: Market Lust

What a gem, I love you Trader Joe's! This is the best place to go if you have no idea what you want to eat because everything is good. The cheese section and the wine sections alone make this place wonderful. The prices are unbelievably reasonable for the quality of food you are getting.
The staff are always fun and friendly. It is unfortunate that so many of the patrons think they are special, like when they park their BMW suv's on the sidewalk out front blocking the crosswalk. Or they let their kids aimlessly drive their mini carts into your legs think it is just darling and don't apologize. But this is by no means TJ's fault! They are a wonderful establishment. -

The Tales and Perils of Trader Joe's........
....so I walk to T Joe's from my office recently at lunch time. I am in a hurry - I have a list of only 12 things I need. I get a cart - I put about 8 things in it. I set my cart to the side as I make a dash for the usually crowded refrigerated area to grab my last few items. 60 seconds later I attempt to return to my cart - and it is missing in action. WTF?!?!?!
What to do? Go outside and get another cart and start all over or hunt down the culprit. I choose the latter. I walk around the store for about 2 mins until I am across the store in the wine area. I see my cart - now laden with about 6 bottles of wine and other items - and a short tiny woman, nicely dressed (this IS Glenview, you know) 55+ standing with the cart.
With my assorted dair y products in my arms I say to her - nicely - "Hi. I went to get some dairy items and I turned around and someone had taken my cart - and well, here it is!" She looked at me, smugly and snottily, "this is MY cart." I said "this cart - with the 2 lbs of butter, 1 box of TJoes Mixed Nut and Berry Granola, Jarlsberg cheese, roasted pepper hummus and the Seeded Semolina Filoni bread? These are YOUR items?"
She proceeds to touch all my items and say "Yes! This is mine and this is mine...!" I am incredulous - I cannot believe she will not surrender my cart! I just stared at her and finally said "You are mentally ill and need help." I was shaking I was so pissed, as I walk away and hear her do a cluck with her tongue. So I got outside, get a cart, retrace my steps and I try to calm down.
About 5 minutes later, a TJoe's employee comes up to me, seeing my astounded confused face and says "Can I help you?" I proceed to tell her what happened and she says "You know, for some reason, that happens all the time in this store." And suddenly out of the corner of my eye, I see the cart thief come up to me - sans cart - and say "Sorry about that - it IS your cart" and walk away. I look at her - say okay - and proceed to talk to the TJoe's employee.
This ranks as of one THE most bizarre incidents I have ever had.
Trader Joe's - love ya! And, even though you are famous for having a revolving door of items so we should not get too attached to anything, if you EVER get rid of the following items permanently, I will commit hari kari:
Your fab cheese selection
Your Vanilla sandwich creme cookies
Your roasted red pepper hummus
Your Seeded Semolina Sesame Filoni bread - TO DIE FOR
Your Orange Chicken or Sweet N Sour Chicken
Your basmati white and brown rice from the frozen food section
Your succotash
Your organic crunchy peanut butter -
Review from Matt R.
Ahh Trader Joe's you are the shiznit. I can get a weeks worth of food here cheaper than at a jewel/cub foods/garden fresh, and it'll be healthier (likely without preservatives or HFCS). It's like a fresh market that isn't marked up in price. It appeals to my frugalness, and my tastebuds. Also for the lazy chef, those 2$ thai box things (microwavable) are AMAZING! For the folks who have not tried them, they do not taste anything like other "instant dinner" products and are quite good. Likewise for the people who can get around that it looks like a piece of turd, those tofu-sausage things taste awesome.
Plus, there's quite a quantity of hot ladies walking through this place (SOMETIMES), so it's not unlike shopping + meat market put together!Listed in: Lettuce go, my Veggie!…

I've been to this Trader Joe's several times and prefer it over the one in Northbrook. Why, cause it's closer, other than that it's the same.
I've spoken with the staff before and they have been generally friendly and helpful. A couple I'll even say were down right cool.
I wish this TJ's would have more samples at the register otherwise they are great!Listed in: My Neighborhood

I really like Trader Joes but what is up with this location? not to blame the store for the clientele but there are some weird folks shopping here. Wacked out soccer moms and freaked out businessmen frequent the aisles here. And no one is nice, what is up with that? I thought Glenview was the Mayberry of Chicagoland?
Anyway, the store itself is great. No complaints here. Seems like some of the more popular items are SOMETIMES out of stock but really I have no problems in general.
Checkout is slow, so there's one complaint. It's always slow too, no matter what time you shop. Watch the fat content on frozen items. Some of the stuff is baddd for you.
Other than that it's not a bad place to stop for groceries. If only the people weren't so dang weird and unfriendly! -

This Trader Joe's is no better or worse than any others.
It is great to be greeted by smiling workers in Hawaiian shirts on a frosty day, but otherwise this chain is WAY over hyped. The first few times you go there you'll think "Wow, this place it great." And you'll buy all these new products because they sound good, or they seem healthy, or they are not something you can find at your usual grocery store. But trust me, the novelty will wear off. The products aren't as yummy or as healthy as they seem. The overall selection is not such that you can do your weekly shopping. So, stop by for a look, and then check back in a few times a year. Whole Foods is so much better. -

Reasons to shop at Trader Joe's.....
1. The Chocolate Covered Raisins (priced well and AWESOME)
2. The Blood Orange Soda imported from Italy (the best around)
3. The $2 Buck Chuck, people! Okay, so it's $3 now, but it's good wine!
4. The great cheese selection
5. The people and staff (always smiling, always witty, always friendly)
6. Kids even love it
It's a great store. I still have to go to four places to get all my shopping done (Costco, Dominick's, Whole Foods and Trader Joe's), but when shopping is this EASY and actually pleasant, you can't ignore that.
So, shop Trader Joe's and be happy! -

New York, NY
While this place is often a crowded madhouse, it is still a fun place to shop. They have a little of everything here- produce, meat, cheese, frozen food, wine, etc.
Each section tends to be small, but they have a lot of unusual, yet affordable products. "Ethnic" products tend to be Americanized, but they are a good way to get introduced to Indian Naan, Thai Curries, and Belgian Chocolates.
They also have a lot of natural, fair trade, and organic products- at good prices.
I especially love Trader Joes for their selection of cheap, but classy holiday gifts. You never know what they will have, but usually they have something cool. Today I bought a super-long box of fancy "mosaic" chocolates for $3.99!
Not every item is a winner and you might walk out with some bizaare flavored duds, but 99% of what I get here is good. -

You gotta love Joe's - in fact, I spent about 2 hours (and more $$$ than I care to admit) just last Thursday. Small produce department has really good, interesting variety - for the most part at very reasonable prices. They have have the best frozen/most interesting selection I've ever seen - and none of it stuff you'd find in regular supermarkets. Of course the wine selection and prices are outstanding and the staff is friendly, funny AND helpful. (Wear a flowery shirt and you'll fit right in.)
What I love the most about this place is that they can turn even the most cooking-impaired idiot into a goumet chef at very decent prices. -

Trader Joe's is a wonderful place to do SOME of your grocery shopping. I don't usually buy produce from this store, but it a great place to find wonderful tasting natural and organic foods.
They have a great selection of nuts and dried fruits, and you cannot beat there cheese selection. -

I like getting BANG for my buck, and that's tough to do at Trader Joes. It's upscale and organic-feeling, which you pay for...but there are deals to be had. Do not knock the 2-buck Chuck (actually $3) wine by Charles Shaw. Maybe I don't have the trained pallet to appreciate more expensive wine, but maybe I don't WANT to have a trained pallet that would reject Chuck. With a $3 bottle, it's no big deal to open a bottle for a dinner at home by yourself. So that I like. I stick 80% to reds, favoring the Merlot slightly over the Cab due to the headache I can get from too much of the Cab (this is where someone tells me to buy more expensive wine). Chuck has a new red out, but I haven't tried it yet.
The only other item I typically buy from Trader Joe's would be the Extra Firm Tofu (back left corner, by the cheese). It's the firmest tofu around (which I prefer), and fairly cheap at $1.40 for a big block. Lots of people who havent had tofu hate it, but it's just good honest protein that can be spiced and browned in a skillet to go with anything. So try it, it's the cheapest protein out there! -

Can't walk out of this place without dropping at least 20 bucks. Whoever organized this place, the shelves, or whatever, is a genius...
THE FOOD
Incredible foods, great selection, right next door (to us), and addictive. Need that pretty plant or wine for an occasion? It's here. Wanna try a new beer that would typically only be at the liquor store? TJ throws up new ones monthly - and they let you pick and choose your own 6 packs. Fancy cereal that only Whole Foods carries? TJ's got it for half the price. Missing goat cheese and candied pecans for the salad you're making? TJ's got em, and the chocolate covered cherries that you couldn't pass up too.
SUGGESTIONS
- Double Rainbow tangerine serbert ice cream $4
- Optima cereal $2.5 (the one with the trail-running man on the back)
- European style non-fat plain yogurt $3
- European 5 coffee bean blend $8 (ground right at the store for the type of coffee you like to make) I set the grinder to cappuccino, of course.
- TJ's Chile reserve cabernet $6
RATING
Dude, it's expensive. Get 4 things, and you drop 20 bucks. I mean, F'real dawg? 1 star off for being so damn good that you're spending cheese like it ain't no thang. Thankfully, the things I get here, however, don't require me to frequent the joint too often.... -

I love, love, love Trader Joe's. Love the food, love the prices, love the employees. Don't love dealing with the other customers.
If you shop at Trader Joe's locations regularly, you know that they tend to attract weird, oblivious, and often rude customers (the kind of rude customer depends on the neighborhood, though). I think the problem is that the stores are small, so there's not a lot of room, plus it's a very browse-heavy type place, so everyone's just sort of mozying around. I wish people could figure out that you don't need to push your cart EVERYWHERE you go. Plant it in an out-of-the-way spot, go grab a few things and come back. (Although beware of cart snatchers, as a previous reviewer has mentioned.) The frozen foods aisle is always completely clogged with carts and confused people who can't figure out how to get around each other. It's really not necessary.
This specific location has some particularly awful customers shopping there. Cranky and entitled old people, self-involved North Shore princess soccer moms, etc. The old ladies who block entire cases with their carts while they sit there and stare for 10 minutes are the SAME old ladies who will not hesitate to elbow me out of the way or rudely say, "ExCUUUUSE me" if I happen to be standing where they want to be for more than half a second. Also, please do not take your 5 kids with you to the grocery store and then let them run around like little assholes while you jabber away on your phone.
Anyways, 4 stars because I love the store. I'm just lucky that I have a flexible schedule and can often time my visits strategically. -
Review from Brian C.
Oh my god. There's so much...room!
I shop at the location on N. Lincoln Ave. (b/t Addison and Irving Park) in the city, and, OMG- there's so much room here! The aisles are soooo wide you can almost fit three carts side-by-side. How crazy is that? If you don't know what I mean, go the Lincoln Ave. location sometime on a Saturday after 12pm. (When there's no Cubs or Bears game that day.) You'll be shocked. I feel no shame in saying there are times I've walked out b/c of the sheer volume of people shopping and in line (but I also am a 5-minute walk away, no biggie.)
I wouldn't think this location has the tight-space issues, though. From what the guy told me, it gets just about as busy, so be sure to go early, go later or go during the week.
As always, great prices, decent selection of basics+, you can't beat the TJ-brand bargains.
(TJ's is my main grocery store, I'm happy to say.) -

I'm a big fan of Trader Joe's. This is the place you go if you want new, interesting and yummy things to eat. I do not do my regular grocery shopping here - but it's always a wonderful adventure through the isles when I do.
My latest obsession from Trader Joe's is the Lentil Curls. Delish!
I'm always impressed at how reasonable the prices are especially when you compare them to whole foods (affectionately known as whole paychex)
Also, I'm loving this week as an Amex cardholder because they are offering $50 gift cards when you spend $100 at Trader Joe's. What a deal. I'm going to be in snack food junky heaven for days. -

I've always loved Trader Joe's, and have always wanted to work there.
Since I've been in Chicago, I don't go there too often. Sorry, Joe.
Today I came to the conclusion that, as much as I enjoy spending tons of money at Whole Foods, Trader Joe's is my "specialty" American grocer of choice. Everyone always seems so friendly there. Real friendly, not "HI! HOW ARE YOU DO YOU HAVE A JEWEL CARD!?" friendly.
On a whim, I bought thirty dollars worth of chocolate and cat food at the Glenview store. God, how pathetic does that sound?
It's less pathetic, as it's Trader Joe's chocolates and cat food. -

My favorite grocery store! Shopping here is always such a wonderful experience...the employees are so friendly and welcoming and they always have exotic products that you can't find anywhere else. I especially love their huge line of ethnic foods. Where else can you find Indian Korma, Thai Green Curry, and Cuban Mojoto Simmer Sauce on the same shelf?
Trader Joe's is a great place to find wholesome, unprocessed, organic food and other products for very reasonable prices. Many times it can be even cheaper than Jewel and certainly more affordable than the overpriced Whole Foods. Even though much of it is Trader Joe's brand, their products actually taste better than the brand name stuff you'd find at the supermarket. There's something for everyone here. All in all, this fun little grocery store is an awesome place to shop. -

Winnetka, IL
I think Trader Joe's is overhyped.
It's fun to go into the store the first couple of times.
But then you try the food... It's not that tasty nor is it appealing. Some of the things that make my stomach turn are the packaged Indian meals, all the Tex-Mex stuff, and the vacuum packed lox. Yuck! Also, I love cheese and dried fruit. I find these items almost tasteless at Trader Joe's.
I dislike the TJ advertising circular. I find that, usually, if a business establishment has to tell you something is tasty that something is awful.
I give it two stars because I do like the decaf Smooth and Mellow coffee beans. The coffee is the only reason I see for going into Trader Joe's.
Sorry, but in five years I see this place going the route of the Treasure Island it replaced. -

I love TJ's! I have a few things I buy regularly here. They have great chicken breast, cereals, yogurts, sausages, snacks, juices, yum! The staff may be too friendly sometimes but they're always smiling and willing to help you. I love that I don't have to do as much label checking here as I do at the traditional big box stores. It saves me a lot of time which is better spent sampling the juice, coffee and food offered in the back corner of the store. Can I say Yum again?

Joe's my idol!! I could never leave this place empty-handed. Can anyone?? There are always some new items to pick up, all-time favorites to mass purchase, wines to grab, and a whole bunch of cookies and chocolates to load the cart with... Today, for example, I got a couple jars of "instant green tea" and "pumpkin butter." How cool is that? Then there were fresh fruits (finally, some decent fuji apples), a wide variety of nuts (thai peanuts are the best), boxed organic soups (they cut down my cooking time by at least 30 mins), whole grain snacks and cereals (fiber, fiber, fiber), discounted energy bars, and many other products that I couldn't resist buying. The service is great, too. Very friendly and helpful!

I like this Trader Joes the best out of them all. The layout, the size, the selection, the cleanliness, all make for a nice shopping experience. You will have to fight to the death with the soccer moms in the SUV's on the weekends, but it's worth it.

The selection of food alone makes it worth going there - things you won't find elsewhere. I am addicted to the Tejava iced tea; my toddler loves the freeze dried strawberries. And the prices! Two buck Chuck - love it! I've been to both the Arlington Heights store and this location. I have to say, very friendly people at the Glenview store in particular. How unusual for the checkout people to strike up conversations with you. This is a great place to shop!

Yay for TJ's! I actually used to work for a Trader Joe's on the north side of Chicago so I know they're a great customer-focused company. They typically hire intelligent people-friendly staff and this location is no exception. The store is ALWAYS tidy and well-stocked and I'm always greeted with a smile and offers of assistance even though I know the place like the back of my hand. I love a store where my dollar goes farther and yet the quality of the food is much better than that of the supermarket chains.

First off, let me say I like this branch better than any of the others in the Chicago area as the store is well organized, there is plentiful parking and the staff are great. As a whole I love TJ's and do much of my grocery shopping here. If you have not been to a Trader Joe's do yourself a favor and go to one. Only quibble I have with them is that on the West Coast they seem to locate stores simply in population centers whereas here they always seem to pick high income locations. Do not be put off by that -- this is a very inexpensive place to shop!
