Review from Patrick L.
Vancouver, BC
Out on the very edge of Point Grey, Tower Beach is one of Vancouver's more interesting historic sites. The rocky shore, steep green cliffs and view of the sunshine coast are nice, but the commanding features of this beach are the two 10 meter high concrete towers that were built to watch over the entrance to Vancouver's harbour during world war two. They've been locked up and sealed off for decades and have since been covered in elaborate graffiti by UBC students, wreck beach hippies, and whoever else has wanted a canvas that's one of a kind (well, two of a kind). Going down to Tower Beach on a sunny day makes for an interesting juxtaposition, especially since the front of the southern tower is covered with a Japanese rising sun.
The rocks are slippery so bring good shoes. -
Review from David L.
Tower Beach isn't your typical beach covered with golden coloured sand because you will barely see any sand at all. Here's a rugged area that will test your balance and improve your balance. There are billions of rocks in various sizes, shapes and most of them are the size of grapes, oranges, grapefruits and watermelons.
There are no public washrooms, vendors, and sidewalks. For access, you will have to take trail 4 which is near Nitobe Memorial Garden on Northwest Marine Drive. You can also access this beach by walking north from Wreck Beach.
Personally, I like a beach with a lot of sand and this isn't the type of beach I would normally visit.
Will I ever go back to Tower Beach anytime soon? Probably not. Unless, I need to train my balance.
For your own safety, I recommend wearing trail running or hiking boots.
