ERRRR...ARRRR... GRUNT LIKE A PIG...I've never worked out in an all women gym and wasn't sure I'd like it coming from some serious weight lifting gyms but I definitely do! I don;t miss the stinky macho grunting and gross man sweat all over machines.  A woman's gym turns out to be similar to how men and women's public restroom work.... The womens is cleaner, nicer and doesn't smell anything near to the mens.  This gym smells GOOD, like a spa.  Immaculately clean and very well run.  The decor is fab, all new with art.  My gay male friends would freak out if they knew such a place existed. The machines are new and actually fit my body.  I don't have to accommodate. Total Woman needs to change their name to ALL DIVA because that's what I feel like when I'm there and I like it.

What's that I hear? Soft spa music in the locker room as I get ready to go into the new very warm wet sauna?  Oh, a private spa tiled shower and even full stall toilets like Nordstroms? Yes please.  Oh today is dress up in your 80's workout gear day and laugh at each other day? Maybe.  But it sure did make working out fun (another thing my gay male friends might like).

It's true that there are some amenities such as towel service, pool, lotion and a water bottle fountain that I miss from Frogs which closed but Total Women makes up for it with a beautiful well run (the manager is Jessica) gym.  Maybe women should take over running the whole fitness Industry? Naw, let the men have their smelly fun I'm just glad I have options.

This gym is geared toward stay at home mom's.  The times the classes are offered and variety of classes is very sub par.  I joined right when they opened, and they kept changing when they offered certain classes.  With the schedule constantly changing it became hard to plan your workout - which doesn't suit me.  I'm the type of person who finds a few classes they enjoy and make it part of my regimen and then incorporates weight lifting and cardio as necessary.

The gym is very small, very limited on weight machines and free weights which are always being utilized by the trainers so the chance of using them yourself is slim.

I'm having a hard time finding the right gym that is clean and doesn't cost an arm and a leg to join.

cons: unreliable class schedule, too small, limited weights, times are not conducive to the working woman, variety of classes offered limited outside of the 9-4.

pros:  It is clean (because it's new), no men

I love this gym and go every morning at 5:30 a.m.! Pros: bathrooms are impeccable, spa is AMAZING, there is always a machine open, friendly staff (most of them), and Pilates reformer classes (extra $). Cons: the classes are kind of lame and geared towards older women. The one class I have enjoyed is spin and I know my sister loves the ballet class. They do try to up-sell a lot and the personal training is pretty expensive. I love the Pilates class but can only afford to buy the six sessions.

I still have my 24 hour fitness gym membership so if I want to take a good kickboxing class I'll go there. I love Total Woman despite the cons and look forward to working out everyday!

I have been a member of this gym for a few months now and thought I would comment on it.

    Pros:
-This gym is great for mothers. The kids club has good hours and they never turn you away, even if there's a lot of kids they just call in someone else to help out.
-Not smelly, not gross, not intimidating.
-The weight machines are actually women sized.
-You can have just a gym membership or if you want the spa membership, the gym is included with the spa package.
-The personal trainers know their stuff.
    -It's clean and beautifully designed.
-There is a whole pilates room, which requires a pilates trainer because of the sophisticated tables, but you could go really far with pilates if that's your thing.
    -Two rooms for classes.
-Tons of cardio machines and I've never had to wait for one to be available.
-Very friendly staff who remember you (and your kids).

    Cons:
-No towel service. I hear if you pay extra you can use the executive locker room which does have towels in it.
-The free weights area is kind of small and can only accommodate about 3-4 ladies at a time. There are tons of machines though.

I don't use the spa and I'm not big on classes, so I can't comment on those. There seems to be a lot of classes from 0700-1100 and 1600-2000. Also, they open early and stay open late, so there's no excuse not to get your workout in!

As far as price goes I think a gym membership is very reasonable and comparable to other gyms. The spa membership is understandably more because you are getting a weekly massage or facial or whatever other service you choose on sign up. Also, if you sign up for a contract it's even less - or you could go month-to-month if you want. Kids club is $4 and hour or $25 a month for as long as you want. That is cheaper than a babysitter.

Overall this place is great. I definitely recommend it for anyone who is looking for a good workout. You can do classes, pilates, personal training, strength training, cardio, yoga classes... they have it all for the full body workout.

I love this gym! I go every morning and everyone there treats me like a part of the family. As a working, single girl, it is very important to me to have a gym so close to home and convenient hours. Huge bonus! Plus, my membership comes with a monthly spa service. If getting a massage I highly recommend Summer. As for the workouts...I have Elyce as my personal trainer. She pushes me every time and makes working out FUN. Thanks to her, I am down to a size 4 and 10 pounds from my high school weight! Overall, I love this gym because of the amazing staff, super clean environment, and the awesome spa.

I feel like a member of a club rather than a number in a huge gym.  The staff, trainers, instructors, and spa personnel are friendly and offer the highest level of  service and personal attention.  Plus, the gym and spa facilities are beautiful - the decor is spa like, the soap smells nice, and the gym equipment is always clean! Personal trainers, Elyce and Christie, are exceptional compared to other trainers I've had at other gyms.  The group classes are varied and are at times that accomodate everyone's schedules.  I take boot camps at 6:30 am and sometimes Zumba at 8 pm.  It also offers pilates reformer classes for an extra fee. I also think the instructors are top notch.  The gym's managers take time to make sure each member feels like an important part of the club, and are quick to fix any issues or problems.  I am SO happy that I joined this gym.  (I was previously at City Boxing, 24 Hour Fitness, and LA Fitness)  I highly recommend TW MV!

I really don't want to say, because I don't want a bunch of people to join and take up all the parking (yes, very selfish). But I must confess that I absolutely love this place. I was going to Curves for a while and it was getting old. Resistance machines depend on your willpower to PUSH, and sometimes I just don't have it.  And it was a one-note workout.

This place has everything I need: treadmills, ellipticals, stair-steppers, free weights, weight stack machines, workout balls of all sizes, and things I haven't even learned how to use yet. They also offer Pilates (which I intend to try as soon as I get my shape into better shape), spin classes (no freakin way can I do that), and a variety of aerobics classes, including the ubiquitous Zumba class.

There are people cleaning constantly, so everything stays nice and clean; showers, sauna, locker areas, bathrooms. Then there is the spa - what a great idea to have a spa inside the gym! I've had 2 massages and 2 facials so far, and I'm no expert but I really enjoyed the services.

Now I'll have to erase your memory of ever having read this review so that you don't go out and join this gym, because I don't want it to get crowded!

I have been searching for a new gym since Frogs  abruptly closed.
I have been trying Total woman.

    Pros:
Gorgeous, truly gorgeous spa looking facility. Soft music is playing in the locker room, upscale finishes, very clean and very new.

    Cons:
Extremely low energy place, no towel service, no filtered water, no body lotion, hardly warm (forget the hot) sauna and steam room. Shampoo and conditioner provided are rather low end.

I made the right choice with Total Woman Gym and Day Spa!

The gym is beautiful and they have a friendly staff, great classes, experienced instructors, new machines, weight section, stretching area, clean locker rooms, not to mention the comfort of an all womens gym!

I have not tried out their steam/sauna rooms although I might some day. I would prefer a hot tub jacuzzi but oh well.

I also have not tried their spa services yet but I appreciate them posting promotions and specials for the members to be able to take advantage of.

I hate gyms.  They are gross, sweaty and I feel like I'm going to get an STD just from touching the equipment.

This gym is a germaphobe's heaven.  New gym means clean equipment, restrooms, gorgeous shower stalls and no sweat smells (helped by  the absence of men).  They even have housekeepers 24/7 who keep it clean.

Great location -- I often drop my car off for oil change/wash across the street while I'm working out, so it's super convenient.

The design is gorgeous -- seriously, a spiral staircase in the center? It feels like you're in a mansion at someone's house and not a gym.

They offer pilates on reformers (group classes and private instruction) -- this is huge for me.  I used to pay for gym then pay separately for personal pilates instruction in No. County.  They also have cycling classes, tons of group exercize classes (zumba and ballet barre are my favorite), plus personal trainers and PMX, PFX? training which I love.  I took a kettle bell class and wanted to puke -- if you're into that, then you'll ove it.

My only negative is the Zumba classes are extremely full and I've walked out to avoid ugly confrontations (do you seriously think you are going to walk into class 30 minutes late, stand one foot from me and NOT get "accidentally" bumped into?) But that's only when I'm in a bad mood. Most of the time, I'm happy and the classes feel like a big sleepover dance party.

Overall I love it -- everyone there is awesome -- staff and members. Plus, my membership includes 2 massages a month and they are amazing.

They do go for the up-sell quite a bit, as some other reviewers have noted.  But I have no problem saying "no" so it doesn't really bother me.  I like that they are always offering workshops, demos, special deals and the spa items (body lotions, candles, etc) are amazing.

Best part is, I've gone from couch potato to losing nearly 40 pounds (3 dress sizes) and I feel great!  I look forward to going every day and seeing all my gym friends.  Very supportive environment and I don't know of any other gym that even comes close to what they offer.

    This gym is absolutely amazing!

There are no creepy guys walking around and because of that, there are no creepy girls trying to get a creepy guy's attention with their gym/club apparel.

I joined this gym after spinning a wheel at a street fair and winning a day pass. When I was given the tour of the gym, I fell in love! It was so clean and beautiful and the showers were huge! I've never been a "gym" person because I would look at the machines and be like "well what the hell do I do with that." Total Woman was a happy medium for me because I eased myself in with the workout classes and slowly steered my way to the workout machines.

My favorite are the Zumba classes. They have awesome instructors like Fleeta and Kristina that are so full of energy and pump you up to put in all you've got! I totally recommend this gym for any girl.

I've been a member here since they opened.  I ALSO had to go re-open my membership at 24 Hour Fitness because they do not have the proper workout machines and heavy enough weights for serious lifting or competitors.

If you are serious about training and lifting, this gym will not be good enough.

    Pros:
    Clean gym
    Good treadmill for cardio
    No guys
Not crowded at 6 AM (usually less than 4 people there at this time)
    Nice changing room and sauna

    Cons:
They don't even have a REAL squat machine.  I have to go to 24 hour fitness for my leg workout
Not a lot of energy - but that can be a good thing too since there aren't many people
They don't have heavy enough weights
    I don't like their classes
    Bad music selection

Massage session at total women's gym & day spa :)

Disclaimer: This is not your average gym! It does NOT include meat heads, manly grunting, or peeping toms.  So if you're into that please re-direct your search now.

Walking in I felt totally comfortable and relaxed. The atmosphere is very welcoming and the gym itself is beautiful.

Lucky for me I went straight to the spa and was pampered with a 30 minute masage and facial wax.

I was fortunate enough to have Michele Cabrera as my massage therapist and Jeanine did my facial wax. Both ladies were absolutely wonderful, very professional and thorough. They made me feel totally comfortable and relaxed even though it was my first time getting a real massage. The spa rooms are dimly lit and the decor is very nice. After my spa session I felt totally refreshed.

Total womens gym and day spa is definitely a must if you are serious about making your total health a priority but find regular gyms unsuccesful.

This is the newest location for Total Woman Gym & Day Spa and its located right here in Mission Valley. Its grand opening is Aril 11, 2011 and I'm excited! I just finished my membership tour today and got my welcome kit. I met some of the staff members and personal trainers and so far so good.

I signed up for a membership a few months ago after I saw a promotional advertisement in the mail and searching its website at the other locations. I'm spoiled already just  reading the amenities offered.

My friends and my husband rolled their eyes at me for signing up telling me that I have a 24 hour fitness gym membership and what's the benefit besides the bells and whistles? I'm like OKAY....welll...let me count the reasons....

First off, its an Women's ONLY gym. It has everything that I need to get my workout on without some random male checking me out or asking me for my phone number, and grunting at the nearby weights or piece of equipment that I want to work on. The weight and cardio machines are brand spanking new. Some I have not even seen before and I'm like woah, how do you use that? Thank goodness for orientation! There is also specific rooms devoted only to pilates (equipment and all), spinning classes, aerobic classes, and so on. You know how hot these classes get. There's air conditioning! Big plus.

Second, have you seen the locker rooms? Day spa heaven. The locker rooms are very spacious. Check out the fancy looking sinks. The showers have a built in shampoo, conditioner, and soap dispenser so if you forgot your toiletries, no worries. There's also a sauna. Now, right across from the locker room is of course....

The day spa!  There are 7 rooms devoted to massages, facials, and all the pampering goodness any woman deserves. Why not? A big plus is that unlike other day spas where you would have to go to one room for a massage then to another room for a facial...not here. You have your one room and its the technicians that does the moving. When your  massage therapist is done with your massage, the aesthetician comes in and does your facial.

There is ample parking and the membership price is right. Almost forgot to mention, there's a Children's area to drop off your kiddos so you can work out.  If you're smart, sign up BEFORE the big day and lock in a great monthly rate. I did, its a lot less than what my friends are paying for at their own gym, and the amenities are awesome.  Way too good to pass up. I will update as soon as this place is in full swing.

I absolutely love this gym and day spa. I signed up in February when I saw a sign on the building. I was looking into gyms at the time, and this one stuck out because it was for woman only. It had everything on my check list, Clean and beautiful lockers and restrooms, open floor plan, plenty of machines and weights, child care facilities (not really needed for me, but it was nice to see they had accommodations for busy family woman who wanted to work out but had their kids with them), and it was close to my work!
I went in and signed up. When they finally opened in April, I got to tour the gym and their facilities. It was amazing, the lockers are abundant with plenty of room to change, the restroom stalls are completely private (the doors completely cover the top and bottom), the steam room and sauna are a nice size and so very clean, even after months of being open they are still clean. The whole gym is immaculate.
When the gym opened they had the personal trainers meet with each individual to asses your fitness state and goals. They also did a walk through with ALL the equipment, basically teach you how to properly use the machines, and to show you around the whole gym. They have a private Pilates room and a cycle room. The Pilates classes are not included in the member price, but is available in a series or group fitness classes for extra.
I did so well, in the first two month and enjoyed every minuet of it. The group classes are great, but during their peek times can get a little crowded. It's better to arrive early or to see if they offer the class you want at a different time.
The Spa is amazing as well, loved the therapists. I liked them, but my favorite is Kimi. She's super friendly and knows just the right pressure to give. The Spa concierges are super friendly as well and kind to answer all of my many questions.
With any type of membership agreement your bound to get plenty of sales pitches, but the sales personnel are very nice and I didn't feel overwhelmed to purchase anything, it felt like they were just giving me information just in case I might be interested. It seems like they have a lot of drawings for free giveaways as well. Also they just started going to a farmers market near the Target in Mission Valley on Fridays and if you drop by and sign the guest book your entered into a drawing for a free spa service!
Okay, well I mentioned all the good, and to be honest I haven't really encountered any bad with my time at this gym. It was a little bit of a drive for me since I live in Easy County, but I knew that when I signed up. Unfortunately, I had to quit my membership because I couldn't afford it any longer, due to lower hours at my job, but the cancellation process was so easy! I even prepared myself for a long talk about my cancellation and getting a run around, but I just walked in, signed a paper and it was done. SUPER EASY!!!! Since I had already paid my first and last months dues, I owed nothing and still have 15 days to use the gym (You have to cancel your membership with in 15 days of your next billing date in order to not be charged any more months).
I loved my experience from the beginning all the way to the end. Since the Spa is open to the public, I'm still going to call and ask about their Daily specials, and their monthly specials, so I can still see Kimi!
If I end up being able to afford this gym again I will defiantly sign up again.
I'm a very happy customer, even when I'm not a member.

I know it seems a bit odd that a male would be writing a review for a completely women's fitness center. However, I am actually writing a review for a particular massage therapist that just took a well deserved opportunity at this location. Her name is Michelle Cabrera, and she is by far the best massage therapist I've worked with.

I'm a pretty active/athletic individual; therefor, I can really appreciate, and know the difference between an educated and thorough massage therapist who listens to my me and flawlessly executes the service to my needs. I've been seeing Michelle at her former location for only about seven months since I moved to San Diego from Chicago, and from day one I was wowed. She is a true professional and will be missed (since I cannot, unfortunately, see her at her new ladies only location). The Spa at Total Woman gym lucked out with this one! Get in with her while you can.

I am really thinking of quiting this gym. Before I detail why, fair is fair and I should lead with the positive aspects:

    Pros:
    - Very clean locker room with actual long doors on the stalls and showers
    - New equipment
    - Good location if you live or work in MV
    - Not a lot of people working out and since it's all women, no one dresses like they are about to work out in a club

    Cons:
    - Not great classes during the lunch hour
    - First and only cycle class I took started 10 minutes late
    - GM is very hard to reach. She was great when selling me a
membership, after that, I literally cannot get her to call me on
paperwork she was supposed to have left for me.
    - Gotten a couple of robo-calls from a machine and emails telling members to come in or telling us of "specials"
    - ALWAYS trying to get you to spend more money

The biggest "con" is the last one - the amount of up-selling this gym does is incredible. I have belonged to over 6 different gyms in my life, and this one is the worst when it comes to trying to get you to buy things, ie: membership upgrades, spa packages, training sessions, merchandise, a nutrition class, shirts, you name it.

There are pieces of paper with the many ways one can spend money in the following places: the lobby desk, a table off of the lobby, the door of the locker room, counters in the locker room, door of the cycle studio that is right next to the locker room, even in the bathroom stalls for God's sake! I cannot even pee without learning about a mother's day special! A great spa deal! and so on.

As if that isn't enough, before my (very full) Zumba class, the GM stood in front of us with a pitch to buy stuff and come in more often so we can earn points to win some trip. I come to work out, not for a potential trip.

Recently, they placed an almost life-sized mannequin right in front of the desk, so you have to step to one side in order to give your card to a staff person to swipe. It is a shirt that, of course, you can buy! The staff member immediately makes a pitch for buying it, enticing the offer with the above-mentioned trip. Just let me work out! Without falling over the stuff you want me to buy!

Holy grail of gyms in San Diego for us girls.  Seriously women, what are you doing anywhere else?  I have worked out at 24 hour and hated all the meathead guys making me feel like i didn't belong in the gym or uncomfortable.  I even worked out at curves, but there is not much to work with there.  This gym has it all, a huge workout studio for classes, i love zumba :)  They have a gorgeous spin room, pilates machines, and every other machine you could ask for.  PLUS the spa!  omg.  its heaven.  it smells amazing, its clean, the shower area in the locker room is so beautiful.  All in all you feel like your getting the five star treatment being a member here and that is what i love because considering the price for the membership its a STEAL.

I love this gym! I can't say enough how great it is.  Its so clean (full-time housekeeping from open to close), sufficient cardio and strength training machines, free weights & gear and variety of classes.

There was one user who commented in length about the marketing & sales the gym does and it is true.  However for me personally, it doesn't bother me. I go to the gym at least 4-5 times a week and never once have I felt hat someone was breathing down on me to buy products or services...Its a new gym so any business savy person will know in order to boost your membership & revenues as the newest one on the block, you need to have frequent promotions and incentives.

I have invested in personal training and spa services too and I have been fully satisfied with my trainer and the massage therapist was excellent too.  The spa services are pricey but you pay for ambience and not just laying on a table to have a service done.  The atmosphere of the gym and spa is one you will get at a high end business, from decor to music to professionalism of its staff.

The staff is supportive and accommodating to many recommendations and suggestions left by members, which is an indication of the customer service you receive.  They are very respectful and notify members when there are maintenance guys there so you can plan your workout accordingly. Also, this is probably the only gym you will find that has a variety of group classes, 7 days a week, from zumba, core strength interval, pilates and the list can go on.

The gym will naturally hold group classes during a time of the day that is in demand.  Honestly the previous user mentioned lack of classes during the lunch hour... well not many people workout during lunch hour- probably why she said its not a crowded gym. Popular classes like zumba happens either early morning or late afternoon when people get off work so unfortunately thats just the way its set-up.  There was one class I attended and the sub didn't show up.  The staff came in and apologized and we had another trainer do a class rather than it being cancelled.  Not only that, they took down our names and said we'd receive a gift in the mail for the inconvienence... again customer service is awesome and you feel your business is appreciated!

This gym has changed my life and without it, I don't know how I would have lost 20 lbs in the last 3 months!

I have only been going to this gym for about a week now. I have gone to a spin, pilates and yoga class. I liked them all and plan on making spin and yoga a weekly priority! In the short time I have been a member there has never been a wait for any equipment. They have cleaning ladies all day that help keep this place very clean. This is a great first gym to join. I love that no guys are allowed! I only wish they had more classes after 330 pm. The bulk of the classes are during the day, this does not work for us working women.

I love this place too! If you are looking for a beautiful and relaxing place to exercise and pamper yourself look no further. I am really impressed with San Diego's brand new all women's gym and day spa.! I strongly encourage you to experience this gym on your own. There is no need to take my word for it. Call or  stop by to take a tour and I think that you will be really surprised by how truly beautiful this facility is. As soon as you walk in the door you will smell the light scent of candles. Ahead of you you'll see a beautiful spiral stair case that leads to the second floor. On the second floor you will find a stretching area, a Pilate's studio,  a cycling class a  gorgeous day spa and an equally amazing locker room. The locker room has immaculate showers, ample lockers, an executive locker room, restrooms, a dry sauna, a wet sauna, several private showers with shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel. You will need to bring your own towels, lock, and flip flops. Bathing suits, sandals  and towels are required for the saunas.  On the first floor is the gym with  exercise machines and free weights. On the first floor you will also find a large dance studio, a small gift shop, business offices, and a child care facility. There is currently a charge for child care. I think that it is reasonable.  Look on line to see all of the wonderful exercise and dance  classes that are offered. A basic membership includes all classes except for Pilate's and Boot Camp. The only spas that I can compare this to are the ones at high end hotels or on some of the  cruise ships that I have been on. You are going to love this place. I have really liked everyone that I have met so far. I have been treated very well by the staff and I believe that you will be treated well too. The members have been polite and smile and say hello.  I feel at home here already. Jessica and Connie made me feel welcome on day one. Even the housekeeper impressed me with her beautiful smile, kindness, and great sense of humor. I had the pleasure of training with Tammara today. She was perfect for me. She was kind, patient, and knowledgeable. She had really positive things to say about the other trainers and massage therapists that she works with. The staff really seems to get along. Therefore the environment is very real and relaxing. The energy is good. See Connie regarding membership. I found her to be very helpful and supportive. I observed her work with another member who needed to freeze her membership due to a medical necessity and she was thorough about following the necessary guidelines while still being personable and professional. You could tell that she cares about the members and their level of satisfaction with the gym/day spa. Miss Connie will help you find the package that is just right for you. Jessica has done an amazing job of bringing quality trainers to this location and she seems to have a knack for matching members and personal trainers. If you ask her she will tell you that they are all great but each trainer has their own style and special gifts to share. Give her an opportunity to get to know you and I am sure that she will do her best to make a placement that is magical.
