I just surrendered a very sick cat I found in a lane way over to the Toronto Animal Services South Region earlier this morning and was very impressed with how easy and professional the whole transaction was.
Other than trying to locate the place (had to get out and ask a CNE worker "which way to go?!?"), I have no complaints about Toronto Animal Services. I think they are doing GREAT work, and I don't think I would be able to sleep at night without the help of them and other animal rescue centres.
The facilities were very clean (a caretaker was cleaning up the waiting room while I was there) and the staff were friendly. I did not visit any other part of the building, but I have enough trust in people to assume that it was also clean and well taken care of.
I urge any and everybody who knows about a suffering or injured animal to surrender him or her to Toronto Animal Services so that it can have a second chance (or as a last resort, stop suffering.)

I visited this shelter to 'browse' and left with an adorable kitten. Note to self: impossible to browse kittens when you really want a kitten.
The staff here was helpful and the shelter was much cleaner and well maintained than others I have seen. They do adoptions for about 99 dollars, but mine was literally on sale for the month of june (!) and my kitten was a cool 30 bucks. They offer vouchers for spaying/neutering and vaccines, and he was already dewormed, vaccinated, and surprisingly house-trained at 9 weeks old. They provided a license, some wet and dry kitten food, and did this fabulously sci-fi microchip implantation thing.
Bonus: they have dogs too, if you are into that sort of thing. -

I love toronto animal services!!! I just got my dog about 2 and a half months ago. They were easy to get along with, just fill out an application and I took my little babe home the same day. The facility was beautifully clean with a cat "bubble" for them to play in. The dogs are kept in the kennels in the back so you don't have to force yourself down a narrow alley of jumping dogs (which personally, even as a dog lover, scares the crap outta me). The few staff I did meet were very kind, let me have alone time with my little guy before I took him home. Here's the REAL KICKER!! I got my little man for only $166.25 including taxes, for dog people you will know how much this means!! This included neutering, vaccines, microchipping and a dog lisence. This would easily ring up a bill at the vets office of 400+ dollars, and I got it all done for the low-low price of $170 bucks. They give you a short medical history of your pet so you can take it into the vet when your animal goes for a check up. I'm so happy with my little man he's a great addition to our small family.
This review is for the west end TAS because they didn't have another seperate listing.
