Another visit to Toque, and another positive experience. Previous places in this location have suffered the ill fate of no customers whenever I've gone in. Whatever Toque is doing, they're doing it right.
Today I tried out a new pizza they've got going on. It's more like a pizza meets quesadilla. Two tortilla-type shells with cream cheese between them and then the pizza toppings on top. It sure is a pizza I've never tried before, and it's delicious! I went for the All Meat Pizza. It was $14.95. My dinner companion figured it was a bit too much for the pizza. I thought it was well-priced (I came home with 3 leftover pieces!).
Alex, the manager on duty, said they went with this kind of crust because "there are plenty of pizza places. If we're going to do pizza, we might as well do it differently." Or something to that effect anyway. Being a stones throw away from the homestead doesn't hurt this bars chances at garnering some of my hard earned dollars. I have been in this establishment a few times and have yet to have a bad experience.
2 out of 3 times that I have entered the doors something was given to our party for free. This is obviously a bonus and would not expect it all the time but its nice when owners recognize birthdays with a little something. Our birthday girl received a shot and a dessert.
The first time I went top Toque there was a tequila testing table. It was for a good cause, although I don't know if tequila and big brothers/sisters make a perfect match.
Unlike the previous establishments that have occupied that location the staff here really make you feel like your business is valued. Its all in the hiring and training! I will consume some more beverages here. -

Visited Toque with a couple of friends. I'd never been to the previous venues here so it was a first visit to the location, period.
The interior is friendly. We were there during a Flames game but it wasn't loud at all so that's a plus if you want to be able to watch the game while still chatting with fellow diners.
I had a Baileys and coffee to drink and we shared a bunch of appetizers. They were good - usual pub grub, although the potato skins had BBQ sauce on them which lends a really nice flavour. We had asked for the potato skins with bacon bits on the side instead of on top and they put the bacon bits on top anyway, so we had to wait a bit longer for a new batch. The calamari was awesome.
There was a bit of a mix-up with one of my friend's drink order and the last dish (artichoke dip) took some time to come out of the kitchen after we ordered it, but all in all it was a pretty good time.
Not sure I'd go out of my way to come here, especially with parking difficult to find, but it's a nice little place to visit if you're looking for somewhere unassuming in the area.

I came to visit Toque after a friend suggested it and we weren't disappointed. Toque has a fun atmosphere and a really good menu. The food is reasonably priced (as is the wine list) and is really tasty. What's even better is that they're willing to modify menu selections if you are vegetarian! They serve alcohol as late as their liquor license will let them (2am, I think?).
They have a patio out front which I should mention is unobstructed by large buildings which means more sun for longer than many on 17th. It's a decent size, with heaters as well so although Calgary might not be warm, you will be.
Give it a try - the owner is friendly and obviously cares about his work, and the location is great! -

Cozy little restaurant/pub that just opened up on 14th street and 16th avenue. I really liked the interior as it looked nice and polished. Lots of TVs to enjoy sporting events. It also looks to have a nice patio.
Enjoyed my Saporo draft here. They serve normal pub food and it seemed up to standard. I didn't order anything so can't really comment on the food.
Really enjoyed going to the washroom at Toque's. The urinals have a soccerball-into-the-net mechanism that simply cannot be missed. Make sure you drink a few pints so your are forced to use the washroom!
