I came here for a wedding reception banquet. The food was good, came out efficiently, and in good sizes/portions. The dish that stood out for me was the abalone. It was gigantic (the size of my fist), soft, tender, and the broth was rich in flavour with well-cooked veggies.
The lasting memory I had about this restaurant was the service. The servers were nice and receptive; however, in their rush of serving food they didn't have the greatest awareness of fingers vs. food. I found my cup was grasped from the mouth area to be moved, I could not eat at times because the server was tight against me splitting the dishes, my sister's chopsticks were touched from the top... I understand they want to be fast but I would appreciate that your fingers (who knows where they have been) were not touching my eating utensils. But whatever doesn't kill me makes me stronger.
Maybe I'll try out their dim sum sometime since I see such good reviews for it. But parking makes me rethink that plan? -

This place may have changed names over the years but everyone knows "the chinese place across from Purdies". Went for dim sum today. I think a more appropriate name is Top Dollar dim sum restaurant. We ordered our dim sum and everything that came was actually quite ok. Nothing bad and nothing special.
What was special was the bill.
$4.50 for a standard plate of siu mai, $4.50 for a ha gow (no scallop on top) but the best was the 13.80 for fried squid. It was prices you'd expect at Fisherman's Terrace, but the same food you would get from Prince Seafood.
Anyway, there are just so many other places I would revisit before returning. This is NOT my Top choice. -

I haven't return to this restaurant over a decade. We came here for a ground of old friends reunion dinner.
The food is usually very good compared to other restaurants of similar price and food. The usual items are cold platter with the general items - jelly fish, boneless chicken feet, smoked salmon, etc. was good.
-steamed dry scallop stuffs in hairy melon was tasty.
- jumbo prawns with green beans was great.
- steamed fish filet with chinese mushroom was ok.
- stir fried Lobster and crab was a bit oily and fishy.
- sea cucumber with mushroom was so soaky.
- deep fried pigeon was so dry and chewy.
The food was OK but not impressive. One complaint is that most of the dishes were so salty.
The servers had no smile or anythings on the face, rush to serve the dishes and NOT clean the table as they seen it. -

I like the egg yolk steamed bun where the stuffing was melt out of the bun when you broke it. YUM! But, the rest of the dimsum wasn't that good. I can have a better experience at Pelican restaurant.

Super busy spot for dim sum! Like many popular Chinese restaurants on the east side, you get pretty good value for the food, even if you feel herded around by efficient if impersonal tag-team service. Regular dim sum dishes are well executed. Particularly good was the FRIED TOFU. Ask your server what the restaurant's signature or more special items are -- if you want to venture beyond your familiar favorites.
We've also come for dinner. STEAMED FISH is always nice, particularly if they can source some Australian barramundi from the market next door.
The small lot in front has limited parking; otherwise look for free spots on the streets. -

Pretty solid tick-sheet style dim sum, but surprisingly pricey for this area with most dishes in the ~$4 range (spent about $20/person). It's easy to find parking on Kingsway or in their private lot and there was no lineup early Saturday afternoon. From the outside, the place looks run down but the dining room is clean and well-lit and service is attentive.
Overall, the food was pretty solid - just a few notes:
- my brother and mom loved the Turnip Pastry dish last time, so they got it again - what we got were oily and flavourless and oily filling in a pastry shell. When we asked what-the-fuck happened to the amazing dish last time, the server shrugged and said he didn't know what we're talking about. ?!?
- the Chinese Donut Rice Roll was one of the better ones I've had - typically, it comes pretty soggy - but the donut remain crispy and a good level of chewiness. I typically bypass this dish but get it whenever I go for dim sum with my mom (since it's her favourite) - but it's pretty good here.
- I love, love, love Beef Rice Rolls - one of the better ones in town in my estimation - pretty good flavouring with the herbs.
- Bamboo Sticky Rice was on the smallish side and a little too greasy for my liking.
It's a little pricier and less busier than your typical joint - dim sum quality was overall pretty good. I guess with the price point and the boastful name they are trying to take on the giants of Chinese dim sum in town (i.e. Sun Sui Wah) - but I never dug those joints anyways. -

Not situated in the fanciest part of town, this chinese restaurant has been around forever and serving pretty decent food.
We live close by so my family and my grandparents usually come here for dinner and it was always good, but not memorable.
Came here for a birthday last weekend and had a wonderful dinner. The soup was full of fresh crab meat and shark fin as they did not skimp out at all. Each of our abalones were the perfect texture and flavor. Lobster steamed in garlic was also very good.
The service was great although the room was a bit cold. The servers were funny, and patient and let us stay longer than usual. They remembered the birthday girl's name and never neglected to serve her first or to refill her drink.
I think I should come here more often! -

Probably one of the best dim sum I've had. Not all of their items are the best, but overall it is very very good. It's extremely busy here and parking is difficult to find on the weekend. Service is quick and efficient, as with most Chinese restaurants in Vancouver tho.

Went here for one of my brother's B-day and we had mostly seafood. Two crabs one spicy salt and the other Black bean sauce. The thing that we all agreed was when they brought the crabs out for us to see before they cooked them they both were over 3lbs each but when they were cooked it seemed like they did a switcharooney. The cooked crabs looked like 2.5 lbs crabs especially the spicy salt version. The bird nest soup with crab meat was good, there was some deep fried bean curd with dried scallop really tasty. Pork chop (tender and moist) with a nice sweet and sour sauce.
The service was friendly but not too good as we had ordered a jug of Coke and napkins and had to remind them three times. I would give the food 4 stars but the service takes it down a notch and also the possible crab switching.lol. -

I had a chance to review their Dim Sum last Sunday (busiest Dim Sum day of week to make sure the kitchen staff is at maximum power). All in all, good clean Dim Sum, comparable to many of the big names in town. If I had to choose a distinction rather Top Cantonese is a dinner or Dim Sum place, I would definitely say dinner. Here in Vancouver, there are over a dozen decent choices for Dim Sum w/ price ranges all over the place. Each place has their own signature Dim Sum dishes (Har Gow at Top Cantonese is a dish by itself, very large pieces w/ up to 7 shrimps per piece). About the service, the staff becomes friendlier and more courteous once they see you more as a regular, otherwise, you just get very fast/efficient service, which was fine since it was always the food that attracted me to this place.

Good neighborhood restaurant. Reasonable prices. Chinese soup is good. The special squab is around $11.99 which is a decent price.

I went there for Dim Sum and was very pleased.
Food came out quick, warm, and fresh.
We got chicken feet, stuffed eggplants, fried taro, steamed ribs, bbq buns, and kai-lans.
Nice and recommended! -

It's what the name says, high quality Cantonese cuisine. Nothing extraordinary, but solid food. We're talking Vancouver here, it has to be solid right. Why only three stars? Price. It's priced near the Sun Sui Wah range. For a medium sized restaurant in a little strip mall in Kingsway, I think it's a little too much. Their abalone dish was good, but very pricey.

I tried this place when I visited Vancouver during Labor Day. I'm from California. The food at this place were decent but not the best. I do not recommend any stir fried veggies with seafoods. Their stir fried veggie seafood tasted the same across the board and they only used celery for all dishes. The poor service make this place even worst. The waiter and waitress did not know what customers' space was. They brought food out and cut right in front of you without saying excuse me or paying attention. Many time they had spilled some food and elbowed us.

I used to frequent this restaurant long ago. Mostly for lunch as they have great dim sum. Most the items were good like the barbeque pork buns, spring rolls, shrimp and pork dumplings, and rice rolls. The one thing that stopped me from going anymore was the uncleaniness of the restaurant and the last time I went i saw a rat running around the restaurant and the waiter failed to do anything about it and just closed the door to the room where it ran into.

I just celebrated my B-day at Top Cantonese Restaurant and it's my second times celebrating at this place! I have to say that Top Cantonese Restaurant is one of the Best Chinese Restaurant in Town! I usually went here for Dimsum and Dinner because I'm truly a fan of this restaurant! I eat here so much that I know their food are delicious and fresh all the times! One of my favourite dishes are Shark fin soup, braised Abalone and Pigeon because they are super delicious and worth the prices! You are paying so much money for these gourmet meal you want it to taste good and worth your money $$$! One thing I have to say about Top is that they have the greatest chinese food! I'm happy with the services because they really help me prepared alot on my b-day and they were constantly serving me and my friends with our dishes! So I am really happy every times I am here! People should go here for Dimsim because they have really yummy baked tapioca pudding and traditional dimsum dishes - less greasy compared to others dimsum places and food tasted GOOD!
