A visit of Old Unionville would not be complete without having a stroll in Toogood Pond. Or is it the other way around?
33 hectares of wildness with trails, wild life, streams and ponds.
A little piece of heaven for the area's residents!
There is also annual Urban Fish Festival held in the pond on the no licence day once a year. I don't know if I want to eat those fishes.. but it is fun if you have children to bring them here for a day of fun.
And of course after you can always go to the Old Unionville and have a drink or a romantic dinner in one of the restaurants.
There are free parking at the Old Unionville Business area. -

The pond is a stroll just a little North East of downtown Unionville.
If you walk the perimeter of the pond there's neat marshland area on the far end.
You can also fish here with a fishing license. There's plenty of ducks and geese here all year round.
Pretty popular spot with the community. They put on nice fireworks shows during the various festivals that happen throughout the year. -

Had a chance to visit this park today - a place that I used to visit frequently as a kid.
This place must have sprouted up in the 1980's, but it's extremely well maintained (being located in a pretty classy area of Markham) - a stone's throw away from old Unionville Main Street, the adorable Unionville Libary, and the newer Varley Art Gallery (which sits right at the edge of the pond).
Toogood pond has definitely become more beautiful with age. Lots of weeping willows, grassy trails, a small cat tail laden marsh, large bridge traversing the pond, and plenty of benches for sitting and gazing. Definitely the type of landscape that brings Anne of Green Gables imagery to mind.
It's a great place for walking & running, or even sitting on a bench & reading (and in the winter time, the pond freezes over & you can go skating). Very peaceful, relaxing & pretty good spot to escape the noise of the city.
Would definitely rate as one of my favourite parks in the GTA, even better than the scarborough Bluffs. -

Very nice relaxing pond. Filled with geese most of the time so it can get dirty but very quiet place for a stroll and to relax. Near main street as well so it is close to food and snacks when needed.
Sometimes you may even see baby geese, quite cute. -

I never had a great appreciation for this pond, probably because I've grown up with it my whole life. As I've ventured out and expanded my "Parks" repertoire, I realized that this park is one of the most beautiful in the GTA.
The pond sits on a 33 acre land. In the winter, the pond is used (moreso in the past than now) as a skating rink. In the summer people go fishing in the pond or just admire its beauty.
In the early fall is my favorite time to go because you can see all the different color foliage in all its glory. I'm a big suck for that. It's also the time when mosquitoes are not present, they have been overstaying their welcome this year, that's for sure.
For the most part, the path is not paved, so if you are planning a trip to the pond after a rainy day, be sure to bring the proper footwear, as it can get messy. Bring stale bread and feed the birds (geese, or as my mom would say "gooses"), just watch out for the bird poops.
There's a fairly small parking lot that fills up fast in the summer, but there's plenty of free parking in the area. If you're visiting the pond, stop off at Main Street Unionville for some ice cream and a lovely stroll down old Unionville. -

This is a wonderful place to go jogging with the dogs, strolling with your significant other, or walking with the kids.
I have friends that even proposed here, as well as others that had their wedding photos taken here. I even had my first "picnic" with my wife 20 years ago here. A lot has changed since then, but for the better.
It is quite busy, but it's a nice addition to the Unionville Main Street strip just a block over.
There's these unique ducks there...I think they are Muscovy ducks. I thought those were only up North...not sure why they are there, but they are very friendly so if you have kids that want to feed ducks, they are way more friendly then the snapping Canadian Geese!!!
This is the "Nature Place" for all us "Urbanites" (with a Starbucks in hand of course).
