Tonys is what all donairs must compare to! Been eating here for at least 20yrs and have never been disappointed ... ever!  Last night I picked up 4 d-bombs for me & the ladies and it was the first time all night there was pure silence. When we all looked up all the plates were empty.
The meat is always crispy, which is what I look for cause who wants soft mushy meat?
Tonys is consistent & the reason I keep coming back year after year!

Now all I need is for them to deliver to the Larry uteck area! We will pay extra for u to deliver your wonderful delights!

If you didn't pick up on it yet, Tonys is where its at for donairs.

So I had to work late one night, and work was buying me dinner. I decided on pizza, and was told to try Tony's for their donairs. I don't like donairs, but I thought I would still give their pizza a go.

I ordered (for a colleague and myself) a medium Hawaiian pizza and garlic fingers. I was not impressed. I found that there was very little sauce, next to no toppings (I actually had two pieces that had no pineapple on them), and little flavor to the dough when it came to the pizza.  The garlic fingers were dry and not that cheesy. I asked for garlic dipping sauce, as the deal was supposed to come with two sauces. They only delivered one.

I cannot say I will be ordering from here again.

A friend of mine used to live adjacent to Tony's, and with the place always within sight,  I accumulated a series of great reviews. Of course it stuck in my memory box for pizza fixes, and eventually I would have to take on the quest myself.

The time did come, and I was expecting good things. The shop itself seems pretty old school with no-fluff service but a spectrum of quick pizza treats. I ordered a veggie by the slice, which cost me around $6. Results? It was ok. Warm, good amount of cheese, but lacking on the veggie variety and not top dollar crust. I suppose these sorts of places are more about convenience and what type of 'zza your into (A lot of quick stops tend to put more into meat pizzas) ... so I can't really be too upset.

I'm not into donairs, so will not be giving that a go. People love Tony's but I can't see myself coming back unless I'm in the neighbourhood at 2am with the hankering for grease.

Tony's was a pit stop on the way home from our night out on the weekends. It was always crowed. Tony was a great guy. Always smiling, got to know everyone, as much as thousands of faces through the week , one can do. But it got so bad , he knew our orders.
We never really went for the pizza, we always went for the donairs.
It is hard to believe that Halifax can consume so much donair meat, but we manage. lol
We did not eat in too much, the tables were always full , or full of really happy people, loud, I think they were coming from downtown as well.
    No, ours were usually takeout.
So if you are looking for a donair fix, happy eating.

I've only eaten Tony's food a few times and all in the past few years. I was really surprised to find out that this pizza place has been around for 25 years. My uncle who attended his undergrad in Halifax, claims that the pizza still tastes the same now as it did back then (which might not be a good thing).

I've ordered delivery from Tony's a few times and usually it arrives at my door on time and hot. Usually. It seems like Tony's is the only delivery place in this city that doesn't listen when I tell them how to get to my apartment. It's an outside walk-up and the delivery people will go to my downstairs neighbours and once even gave them my order (still not sure how they didn't realize the mistake) and left me waiting for my food for a while.

The debit at the door option is convenient (if they can find your door that is) and so is picking up a slice from Tony's if you're in the neighbouring area. It's not the best tasting pizza in the world, but it's cheap.

Tony's probably gets the bulk of their business after midnight on weekends because it's perfectly positioned (geographically speaking) to cash in on those inevitable food cravings that hit as the downtown crowd makes its way home from the bars.

If you've ever craved a donair - and if you've ever had too much beer in Halifax, it's just inevitable - Tony's is a good spot to fill that craving. The boys are friendly and fast, and the donair is just perfectly donair-y. Mystery meat, sauce, tomatoes and onions on pita.  Mmmm.  Just don't try one when you're sober; you might begin to wonder what you're actually eating, and it's probably better to just not know.

Their pre-made pizza slices on the chewy and doughy side, but may still seem delightful at 2am.

Tony's is a frequent stop for me on Tuesday nights post Charlies Social Club. Everybody loves a decent slice of pizza after a few drinks and, luckily, Tony's offers a decent slice of pizza after a few drinks!

Usually there is not much of a crowd when I'm in this place, which means fast service and, if you're lucky, a fairly fresh slice of pizza. Because it's by-the-slice you're more or less confined to what they have, which means you might end up with a piece that has been around for a while and a piece fresh out of the oven. It's all really a crap shoot and I wish you the best of luck with it.

I have been told Tony's has a really solid Donair. I don't eat Donairs, but I thought I should pass that information along from reliable sources!

I'm not one to turn down a donair when I see one.  So, when I passed Tony's one day, I just had to give it a try.

I'm sad to say that it wasn't the best donair I've ever had, but it certainly hit the spot.  I found the meat to be a little dry and overcooked, and they didn't put as much sauce on it as I would have hoped for.  And, for $7, I wasn't very full afterwards.

The pizza they had on display actually did look pretty delicious.  If I go back to Tony's again, I might have to shy away from my usual donair and give the pizza a try!

Boy was this a hot stop at 2am! Normally packed to the rim with people coming from a wild night after our local night clubs closed.  Always on the way home stopping for one of Tony's famous donairs was the thing to do.

Great Donairs great portions always enough to save for the next morning. To me I was not  fan of the pizza but the Donair meat was always nice and spicy. The Sauce as well was not sweet like some are it was just right.

I'm pretty sure I came into Tony's Pizza at the worst time a pizza shop would want a Critic or Reviewer to walk in: 10:00 pm on a Monday. In the evening on Mondays there is nothing going on in Halifax. At least nothing when compared to the thousands of people enjoying the nightlife on a Sunday Night or even a Wednesday. But I was hungry and thought that if they were able to serve me a decent enough pizza on this day, at this hour, that would say a lot. And surprisingly, I got more than a good slice of pizza. The service was great! The woman working behind the counter was professional, pleasant and looked as if she enjoyed working there. In fact the entire pizza shop had a very relaxed feel to it. So service is four star at Tony's but the pizza was quite average. Perhaps I am being tough on them though because the pizza was still pretty good quality given the day and time I was there. It wasn't that rubbery kind of pizza where you know its sat under the heat lamp for hours on end. It still had flavor and was a decent size. The price was also, I'd say fifty cents less than other pizza shops closer to downtown. And I'm a bit of a cheapskate so for me every penny counts.

If you are near the Halifax Commons area and are aching for a pizza, Tony's is not far away. It's a good alternative to any place near Quinpool Road for a few cents less you still get everything you'd want in a pizza.
