Heart grilled bread.
Food:
They have some pretty good paninis here. I got the spicy sausage and the gf got turkey. I should have got the turkey, it was much better. Grilled bread, cheese, meat, onions, peppers, and some greens inside for 6-7 bucks a hit. Mac salad is served with the sandwich as a side............ but it sucks! lol Didn't like it at all. No seasoning and flavour in it.
Service:
Order from counter, pay at counter, then sit down and wait for food. Walk out when finished.
Room:
Small joint that probably seats 10-15 snuggly. Not much of a looker.
Btw, sit here long enough and you'll see some pretty funny stuff go down, outside. We saw a guy, (decently dressed), digging in the trash. "Oh, how nice, he's recycling." Puts out a drink and pizza, eats it and starts walking off. wtf?? lol
I guess when you're on the go..... -

I don't know why there are so many negative reviews for this little sandwich shop! having grown up on the Drive, my mum would take me to Tony's for a special treat from time to time, and it was here that I first tried a grilled panini almost twenty years ago. Back when I ate meat, I was a fierce fan of the salami and mizithra cheese panini, but now I love love LOVE their mushroom melt. Four kinds of mushrooms and a lot of cheese on perfectly crisped freshly baked bread: I'm hooked.
Their baked goods and coffees are good too. Maybe I have just been lucky, or maybe it is my nostalgia - but I love Tony's.Listed in: Yummy Veggie-Friendly Fast…

We had high hopes for this rustic-looking Italian deli/cafe. It is a looker, with exposed brick walls and visible kitchen and comfortable tables and a window bar area that's perfect for people-watching, always the thing to do on the Drive.
Unfortunately, the food was a bit of letdown. My husband's corn-cream soup was tasteless, with long pieces of pepper that were just about impossible to scoop up with the spoon without serious concentrated effort. My panini sandwich with turkey and pesto was competent, but the turkey tasted like Safeway cold cuts and the pesto was bland. The beef stew was tasty, though it was a weird, creamy sort of beef stew I've never encountered before.
On the bright side, though, the coffee was good. Grazie a Dio. -

We came here while visiting the drive for Italian day - although it seemed less Italian, and more like 'local restaurants and stores promote themselves day.' But I digress.
Upon entering the deli, it seemed like a cute little place, with a big open kitchen that you could view and cute decor items like a plate of pasta apparently being eaten by a ghost (the fork is lifting itself! aaaaah!!). When we tried to order however, the cuteness stopped and frustration began.
The counter attendant had the worst communication skills of any food service place I've ever seen. I mean, I've been to some restaurants where the servers barely speak English, and they still seem to get their message across alright. Tip for Tony: make sure your staff know what's on the menu. There's a huge difference between "turkey paste" and "turkey pesto." When my guy was trying to order a panini, and the server suggested the turkey paste (which still sounds kind of gross to me in its own right, even if I weren't a veggie), he agreed. But then I spied on the overhead menu that it was in fact turkey pesto. Since bf hates pesto, we asked for a substitution. All we got in response was, "No paste? Uhhhh..."
Luckily another counter person came to the rescue, after about five minutes of slowly working on another task. One thing about an open kitchen: if the staff are really slow, it's only going to aggravate the customers.
Anyway, we ordered a panini and hot chocolate each. The hot (actually lukewarm and quite tasteless) chocolates came after 5 minutes or so. The paninis came 15 or 20 minutes after that. It was incredibly frustrating to see just how slowly the kitchen staff were moving. However...
Once I tried my mushroom melt panini, I realized that this is what heaven must taste like. Ditto for the bf's sandwich. So, despite the horrible and slow service, I may just come back some day for this, and only this, item of their menu. -

Cute deli, pasta dishes ready to heat and serve, sandwiches and soups, coffee and desert.
Outside tables off The Drive and under the HUGE Elm-(?) trees that canopy the street two shades darker than the other side! Well, certainly good on the hot days of summer. Just across from Drive Organics the food store, so... shop and eat! waddya waiting for?
