Review from Kat S.
A little on the high side of moderately priced sushi in the area. The quality is pretty decent but the service is disorganized. 2.5 stars.
The gomae was okay. Not my favourite, but the spinach was very fresh and good.
The black cod special was just a small hunk of fish. Nothing else came with it, like vegetables or rice. Just the piece of fish. For a special I expected a bit more. The fish was delicious, but it was a very odd cut with lots of bone and fin.
Spicy tuna and negitoro rolls were pretty good. Nice flavour and tasted fresh.
The service was frustrating. It seemed we were being helped by 2 people but there was no communication between them. The service was slow, and orders were forgotten and it took a long time to get tea or refills. They were very polite and apologetic about a forgotten order, but it was so disorganized I don't think I care to go back. Mistakes happen, but they need to get their routine figured out.
Too bad about the service. It's a cute place. I might give it a go again in a few months and see if they have improved. But for now I'll be sticking to my regular place. The complimentary miso was a nice touch, though. -

Sometimes you wonder, how businesses get away with things, and then there are things to be said as to how you felt going into a place, and wanting to run out all frustrated at the situation. I was hoping to give this place a shot on the weekend with my partner and somehow the vibe and all was not right once we entered. If you are hungry, by all means, come on in, and if you are wanting a snack, steer clear, far away, cause you are not getting anything cheap, as there is no 'sharing'!
How ridiculous it is to have a minimum charge of $7.95 per person sitting for a run of the mill average place? No wonder there is barely any business here, with your pricing for sitting, what if I was just accompanying a friend? What if I do not like food waste, and I have a minimal appetite? What if my partner likes Japanese food, and I do not? The attitude that we received on this day merits some words by me, and I now understand why Cattle Cafe, and Lau Shan Dong have more business than here.
The place itself has some good seating, many booths, some specials, but just remember, read the fine print before you even step in, or have a steaming rage when you leave! -

Huge portions. I think this place has the biggest Bento Box lunch specials I have ever seen. Of course eating that much at lunch just makes for nap feelings once you get back to work so choose wisely!
Not the best sushi/Japanese food I've had, but for a nice lunch, out of the office, in Burnaby, near Metrotown, it's damn good. One of the better options from my experience.
The decor is a lovely red and the place is on the smaller side. It does have 3 nice, big, 6 person booths along one wall in case you want to bring a little group. The staff are all friendly too but be sure to give yourself the hour you're likely to have for lunch, it's not a rush lunch kinda place. Plus, eating all that food takes a while! :P -

Chinese-run Japanese restaurant alternative to Sushi Garden.
Came here with one objective, to try the "Black Sun" dish. Chopped scallop, tuna, and salmon topped with black tobiko and a quail egg. Visually appealing dish. Held together with mayonnaise, garnished with terriyaki sauce. It was good, but not mind-blowing - tastes exactly as you would expect.
Lots of different creative "higher-class ie more than $7+" sushi rolls. I liked the Tomoya roll, tamago, chopped scallop, crab and avocado topped with mango and ebi. Ingredients felt a bit room temperature to me, but it was still pretty tasty.
Mediocre short-ribs and ika karrage. A few good points, easy to find free parking after 6 pm and complimentary miso soup for the table.
