Love the atmosphere! Love the lighting when it's low! Love the romance about the whole place.
Love the food. They have a dish there now that has chorizo sausage and it is just absolutely amazing. Not sure how they do the sauce but wish I had the recipee.

I'm a beer drinker by nature however, whenver we go to Tomavino's, I get a half-litre of red wine. There's something about this place that screams you should have wine.

    Prices aren't too bad.

I highly recommened this place to anybody that is looking for a nice romantic evening out with your spouse and enjoy a perfect meal.
It seems everytime we go there, Billie Holiday or Ray Charles is singing in the background. Love it.

I'm so glad that Tomavino's managed to rally to keep its south end location after the double drama of the fire and the closure of the short-lived Bedford branch. Tom's has always been a favourite dinner destination for me as well as a secret take-out weapon when you really need people to show up for a work meeting.

From the rich appetizers to the fresh and flavourful salads to the obvious headlining gourmet pizza pies, I haven't tried a single thing on the menu that I wouldn't gladly order again. For whatever reason, every flavour of every dish seems to shine a little brighter here than other restaurants in the city so be prepared for a feast that knows how to bring it.

The Eos, Los Angeles, and New York pizzas are absolutely to die for beyond just the added bonus of having a few creative, vegetarian options to choose from. Of course, if you're not as trusting of others, you can always custom build your own creation using their full range of gourmet ingredients. Where else can you choose from baby clams, egg plant, smoked salmon, and homemade meatballs when ordering your 'za? Gluten-free crusts are available too!

The interior is dark, warm and romantic, making it perfect for a special night with a special someone. Or, a solo binge under the cover of low-lighting. Either way, you're good to go.

Service has always been friendly and professional although I've definitely noticed some gaffes over the many times I've visited. The only consistent one is that sometimes it can take a long time for your food to arrive so maybe skip Tom's if you're in a rush.

I had only two issues with my visit to this lovely restaurant...

    A) When we arrived, it was a good while before anyone had actually noticed we were there and led us to a table. We came pretty late in the evening, though, so I don't really hold this against them. Still, not the best start.

    B) I have no freaking clue what to call this restaurant. Could someone please let me know whether it is Tomasino's or Tomavino's? So much confusion!

Other than that, I really loved this restaurant. With just one visit, the pizza shot up there with Salvatore's and Morris East as some of my favourite in the city. This restaurant feels more in line with Salvatore's, though, than it does with Morris East. And, to be honest, I think it beats Salvatore's.

We started off with the focaccia appetizer and, while the bread was probably too flat to be considered focaccia, it was still wonderful and cheesy. Luckily, however, it was not messy. The pieces broke apart easily and did not require a superfluous amount of napkins. Always a plus.

For our main dish, we both ordered the small pizza con carne. This is a meat heavy pizza, which I'm not normally into, but the official website recommended it, so I decided to give it a try. I was not disappointed. The meat flavour didn't overpower the pizza, as I find it does with a lot of meat pizzas. Best of all, the number of toppings was perfect. Nothing fell off the pizza, but it all felt substantial. Really well made.

The crust is crispy, but feels delicate. The sauce actually reminded me strongly of a pizza restaurant in my hometown, with a kick to it that seems to come from some combination of spices that I can't put my finger on. Lovely.

Since it was my first time and I knew I'd be writing a Yelp review, I decided that I had to try a dessert. All of Yelp was counting on me! So I ordered the coconut cream cheesecake. Although it ended up being probably a little bit more than I should have eaten, it was still great. Light, flavourful and accompanied by some sort of booze-y whipped cream. Mhmm.

For what we ordered, the price seemed quite reasonable. The service, apart from the beginning, was top-notch as well. We never found ourselves without water for long, which was great.

I know I'll definitely be back and I'm looking forward to it.

There's no better place to get takeout pizza in the city. (I haven't eaten in yet, but I hear it's cozy and perfect)

Incredible selection of delicious toppings, speedy creation, and you get large pizzas for the price of mediums when you get take out!

Seriously, you're missing out if you're getting pizza anywhere else.

We came to Tomavino's on a very dead night. I thought for sure they were closed because there wasn't a soul in sight. Maybe they forgot to lock the front door?

But luckily they weren't closed. We got a choice of seating so we picked a table near the wall. I'd realized upon entering that I have been here before a few times. For some reason, I don't quite remember what I had so I wasn't able to recall anything to reference. For all intents and purposes, this may as well be my first visit.

We started with focaccia bread for the appetizer, topped with cheese and sauce. This was delicious however I could taste something slightly sweet in the sauce that I felt might have been somewhat conflicting with the cheese. My bf, whose taste buds could differentiate between two grains of sand, said it might have been the basal, so I'll take his word for it.

For my main, I had a hard time choosing whether I wanted lasagna or pizza. In the end, I opted away from lasagna since I always choose that. It needs a break from me. (But I WILL be back). Therefore, my pick was the Pizza Con Carne, meat pizza, on whole wheat.
The pizza was impressive in that it wasn't messy in the least. Normally, pizzas that aren't messy tend to lack in toppings but here, the pizza was full but not overflowing. I was definitely satisfied. When I was done, I promptly decided that Tomavino's is the biggest competitor to Salvatory's when it comes to who has the best pizza. I did rate the latter higher but only because of the interior of the restaurant is what I enjoy more but the former is likely a better spot for a small celebratory gathering so really, it depends on what you're looking for. But if it's pizza you want, you can't go wrong.

I did make a second trip back and had the lasagna the second time. It was great! I would say not quite as filling as Vinnie's Pasta Bar but I did enjoy it. It was loaded with cheese but it didn't have too much that it was drowning in it. (I have realized that yes, there IS such a thing as too much cheese in lasagna...)

I feel like Tomavino's isn't the type of place to simply drop into in a whim. It seems more like a special-occasion destination dinner spot. But I'd totally up the amount of visits I could make here just to have their pizza.

Tomavinos, how I missed you! Both your pizza and that nice, mannerly voice that answers the phone.

Tomavinos is our go-to delivery pizzeria. With its reliably available special of a large pizza for the medium (we're going on fifteen years now), Tomavino has a soft spot in my heart. After the fire in February, the owners were unsure if they would reopen again in South End Halifax. Imagine my surprise when I saw online that it was open once more. I think even my neighbours heard my shouts of glee!

The Hawaiian with its pineapple, bacon and extra cheese is a frequent favourite while the Ambrosia, a combination of Italian sausage, fresh spinach and sautéed mushrooms, is a close second. I will confess that I sometimes find the tomato sauce itself a tiny bit spicy, but it is all delicious. And, if you think the toppings are all high-falutin', they have traditional combos such as the Bluenoser, a mix of pepperoni, green peppers, and mushrooms.

I wouldn't classify this pizza as your typical gourmet thin crust wood fired pizza, but it's certainly in its own category for delivery pizza with its unique toppings combinations and high quality ingredients. The crust, which is never soggy, is also available in whole wheat and gluten free versions.

Delivery is prompt and credit cards are accepted.

    Glad to have you back!

Lets face it: I'm a sucker for gourmet pizza. Warm, stretching cheese bites over top of a fresh, colorful sprinkling of veggies and a balance of soft and crispy crust? Yes... this is what dreams are made of, my friends. And so to catch a few Yelp reviews of this unknown (to me) spot... my curiosity could not go for long.

Pleasantly posed on the corner of South and Hollis, Tomasino's is a cute little pizzaria with clean interiors and a vibrant glow. The expected spectrum of pizza, pasta and classic salads are all available for order. I stuck to my veggie pick, as I just cannot abandon this staple. Ordering a medium pizza (some to talk home and share with sis) for 14.95, I am to choose 3 veggie options to my preference. They do have some goodies, like spinach, zucchini, pineapple, and fresh roasted garlic... and I was happy about what there was to pick from.

The smoked salmon pizza peeked my interest as well, and I may go for it next time I stop in. The end results were quite delicious, with purely awesome crust and well fuzed topping.

Glad to find another wonderful pizza joint within reasonable distance. Cute space, but when it comes down to it, its all about the 'zza. Yum!

Assolutamente favoloso!!   Perhaps the finest restaurant in Halifax for gourmet pizza (and who doesn't love a slice of fresh pizza now and then?)

The pizzas here are made with some of the freshest ingredients (including gluten-free options), a tasty pizza sauce that has "kick" without being excessively spicy, and a healthy sprinkling of cheese to top it all off. The pizzas are baked to perfection- never overdone, and the crusts are thin, yet soft and delicious. And all this is without the unsettling greasiness that's often characteristic of typical pizza chains (here's lookin' at you, Pizza Pizza!).

If pizza is not your thing, you can opt to try their pasta dishes, which are quite tasty as well (I sampled a friend's chicken parmagiana, and was very impressed with it).

Tomavino's  offers take-out and delivery service, which is great for late night jaunts, but if you have the opportunity, I highly recommend you stick around and dine in. The restaurant is cozy, with a deep, luxurious color scheme, and soft relaxing lighting- perfect for a get-together!

Bottom line: want a fabulous pizza with a genuine gourmet taste "like mama used to make"? Stop by and give Tomavino's a try!

We went to Tomasino's the other weekend while hitting the downtown for the Buskers.

I give Tomasino's a four for the pizza, it was right on spot. Crisp thin crust, spicy sauce and fresh ingredients, I am holding back one star because the olives were not the Kalamata Olives. The Bruschetta was very tasty and you received a generous portion.

The Caesar salad I will say, do not order. It was $15.00 for a salad for two. This was the most bland salad I have tasted. I really did expect better for here. I did tell the waitress it was very bland, she had no resolution, I asked for some olive oil and salt and pepper. That is pretty bad. It was almost like the chef forgot to add the garlic and anchovies. If there is one thing I know, it is a Caesar Salad and this was not anything to buy twice. Put the money towards a second pizza, that is worth it.

I will say the interior is very nice, low lighting, dark colours and romantic. The patio was opened but we opted for inside this time. The staff is friendly and prompt with service.

Just a heads up for those of you who are fans of Tomasino's/Tomavino's.

The fire that occurred on South Street earlier this month temporarily closed down these businesses.

There is a Tomavino's in Dartmouth however they have yet to find an economical way to deliver to the south end. They told us that they would likely be able to accommodate orders from Friday the 5th onwards.

Watch out Morris East, Tomasino's is coming through.  I thought Morris East had the best fresh pizza in the city, but I may have to rethink my findings.  I almost can't decide which pizza I like better because it was so delicious at Tomasino's, I almost changed my mind.

I certainly enjoyed the atmosphere and ambiance in this place.  When you first walk in your nose is filled with the delicious smell of garlic bread and melted cheese.  It's enough to make anyone crave pizza.

I also really enjoyed the service in this place.  We were helped by a very polite young man who made us laugh on more than one occasion.  He really made the experience enjoyable.

I've only have the one experience at Tomasino's (Tomavino's?  What's going on?), but it certainly was pleasurable.  I'm going to have to try again to decide which my favourite is.
