I really liked the moose factory! I came here on a Sunday for my boyfriend and my one year anniversary and we had a great time. Although we didn't get the buffet, it looked wonderful. We had the surf and turf to share and we had a TON of food. Crab, shrimp, steak, potatoes, veggies ... you name it and we had it. For dessert we had Cherry Jubilee which was super tasty and the preparation of it was awesome to watch. They basically lit the dessert on fire and then poured it over ice cream, DELICIOUS! Maybe this restaurant has sentimental value, but I thought the service was wonderful and the food was great!

My husband's boss had their work Christmas party here. And while some things were spot-on, some were sorely lacking.

The servers were very professional, quick, efficient, and polite. No complaints there at all. For as large a party as we were, they did an amazing job of getting the correct drinks and dishes to everyone.

Most of the food was very good. We had a pre-set menu with several options. The hors d'oeuvres were to die for. Calamari, a skewered mini prime rib and Yorkshire pudding, and 1 or 2 other things were all tasty and the correct temperature.

I had a delicious Lime Something or other (basically a gin and tonic with lime slush). Since I was driving, I was only able to have one! But it was yummy.

For a main, I had the pork chop, which came with roasted apples, garlic mashed potatoes, and a cherry compote of some kind. All were very good. My husband also raved about his steak, and we heard one of the girls say her salmon was also delicious.

The molten chocolate dessert cake (or whatever it was called) was also quite good. I think there was a layer of strawberry flavored cream or something between the layers.

    That said, the Flubs included:

#1, I heard my boss's wife complain that they had put us in a different section than she had requested, so I think she was a little annoyed. Someone dropped the ball there.

#2, they seated us late in that wrong section, which means that we ended up having to stay way later than we'd planned.

#3, the house salad. The dressing was too sour or something. Too vinegar-y maybe? Just didn't appeal to me. Also, my greens were not washed well. Nothing like gritty salad at the fancy restaurant.

#4, later on in the evening, when it seemed they were trying to get lingering parties out of the restaurant, they appeared to have turned up the music. I was starting to lag a bit, since I think it was coming up to 10:00 or after, and I was getting a headache. Didn't really appreciate it.

All in all, a basically OK experience, I'm just glad we weren't paying for it, or I wouldn't have considered it worth it.

I recently had dinner here for a friend's 30th birthday.  My overall impression was that it was overpriced for the quality of food that I received.

I had the caesar salad to start.  It was a decent size but was overdressed.  The dressing also had visible grey bits in it (anchovies?) which was not my thing.

For an entree, I had the sirloin steak which came with mashed potatoes and broccoli in a cheese sauce.  The broccoli was pretty good but the mashed potatoes had a weird taste to them.  I was expecting mashed potatoes more like the Keg's so maybe this is where my poor review is coming from?  The steak was nothing special which was disappointing for the price.  The only reason this restaurant got 2 stars from me instead of 1 is because of its AMAZING steak sauce.  I would recommend buying the steak sauce and making your own steaks at home instead of dining at the restaurant.

The service was also "meh;" nothing special but not horrible either.  We were charged an across the board gratuity since we were a large party. I was okay with the gratuity charge as it is pretty standard but upset that for the fee they did not divide up the bill*.  If you are going to charge a table for the server doing extra work then you had better make sure the server is actually doing extra work.  *Disclaimer: I spent a few years serving and the computer system I worked with made splitting the bill easy to do - maybe their computer system doesn't work the same way?

Wow this place has shit the bed now. You gom in and it just looks so old? I went for a brunch the other day and there was a chocltae fountain but there was also all the kids just putting there hands in it? grosss and the server was standing there just watching. The light fixtures there hang really low I had to deke them as I walked around. The prices are too high, like seriously for the overall service this place is not worth it...go to moxies a block south.

I use to come here a lot to meet up with my hubby's rich, oil industry dude friends.  The type of guys they are may shed some light on what this place is all about.  Tom Goodchild ran a tight ship with gorgeous, lady servers which enticed some of his wealthy but non-discerning clients.  These good ole boys with huge wallets wanted a good time and were too drunk by dinner  to realize their steaks were just mediocre.  The lounge was packed and the liquor flowed.  It had a real party atmosphere.  Then one day our buddies started to do their networking at a different establishment.  The Moose's numbers went down, the quality  suffered, only their inflated prices remained.
I was recently invited back again to enjoy their Tuesday night wing special.  The wings are not that special, but the beers are a good price and our server was attentive.  I could have done without the staff shouting out their bar inventory count.   It hasn't stopped raining long enough for us to attempt the patio. It looks absolutely beautiful from afar.  The restaurant and especially the bathrooms are scrupulously clean.  I really hope "The Moose" regains it's glory of the good old days.

If you ask someone on the street where a good place for a romantic or an expensive dinner is in Edmonton, you will more than likely get a few responses of "The Moose Factory".  Unfortunately, this place survives on this mysterious reputation and not on good quality or service.

I don't know anyone who enjoys going to The Moose Factory.   Most people that I know who have gone there, have vowed never to go again.  Friends that have worked there, hate it even more than the disgruntled consumers.

There is a very pretentious vibe going through this place.  It is not comfortable or inviting.  And there really is no reason for it to be this way.  Yes, the decor is nice but the food is not.  The food is mediocre at best.  It is often not cooked properly (either cold or overcooked) and it doesn't taste great.  The staff are decent most days but it is apparent that they don't enjoy their jobs.

I don't know how this place got the reputation that it did (as a great restaurant) but I hope that rumor fades fast.

Sub-par food for inflated prices.  The most disgusting part is this restaurant blatantly disregards Edmonton non-smoking bylaws.

came here for a family function. the staff were polite and decent (if not a little thick in the head).  food was way over priced for what was being served. sub-par ingredients in everything, including a lot of pre-made stuff (salad dressing and desserts are what I noticed). buffet was disgusting and extremely limited. seems to be a big disconnect between what the restaurant aspires to be and what is actually being served.

restaurant was mostly empty on a long weekend which should have been a tip off that this was not a good place to eat. if the restaurant invested as much time and energy into the food as they did into the decorations and fancy water fountains this could be a nice place to eat.

I kind of agree with everyone that this restaurant is hit and miss. The 1st time we went for a party and the food was awesome and service was excellent. But the second time 3 of us went and it was not that thrilling for the food or service. What gives with this place? Quality means being consistent every time you go there but that does not seem to be the case at the Moose Factory. Not paying high prices on the flip of a coin for quality.

I went to this restaurant for an anniversary and was extremely disappointed. The appetizers in the lounge were overcooked, and when it came to dinner we decided to splurge on our special day. We ordered the seafood platter for two, which cost $95, and since we'd heard the steak was amazing here, we shared a top sirloin. The platter was a disaster! The lobster tails were cold, dry and my boyfriend had shells crushed in his. The bacon-wrapped scallops, while tasty, were also cold, and the rest was just plain poor. What got me was that despite it being a fairly large platter for two, the butter was not set under a flame to keep it warm. The steak, while perfectly cooked, was also on the lukewarm side. We were very disappointed, but didn't want to complain 'cause our waiter was so sweet and it clearly wasn't his fault. So we left and wrote a letter to management. Within two weeks, the manager and I spoke and he sent us a $100 gift certificate to come give Goodchild's another try. I was impressed. He stressed that what we experienced was not their standard, and the company was built on a solid reputation. We did go back and sit on the patio and use our coupon, but weren't overly impressed, although the service was impeccable. The place is a bit out of the way for us, so we probably won't be back again. If you do decide to go here, it's all about the steak, so skip the seafood!
