I've been getting delivery from Golden Great Wall for the longest time... and the quality is getting hit and miss... very inconsistent lately... and we happened to walk past Toko Foods a while back and were stunned to find it just sitting there in the middle of a bunch of light industrial buildings... so of course we had to drop by sometime.
Hours of operation are a little wacky... so prepare ahead of time for when you can go... it's not straight out mainland Chinese type dishes (as others have commented).... but it was DAMN good at what it was! We ordered crispy ginger beef (always a fav of mine if it's done right)... and this wasn't the way I'm normally used to it... but it was sure tasty... it was a little more sweet than I'd say was necessary, but I liked it just the same. On to the rice front... we had some fried rice... the menu said it would have prawns and BBQ pork (mmmmm BBQ pork!), but seeing how I don't do seafood, they optioned that one out of it. And... it worked out well. Nice and tasty. Lastly we got szechuan steak chow mein... it was a little spicy (the fiance thought it was quite a bit spicy... but for me... wasn't), but was very tasty as well too. They have a great list of teas... several oolong, quite a few greens, and even pu-ehr tea.
We live quite close by... we'll definitely be coming back some time in the future. If they keep things the way they were, we may even become regulars. -

This place still delivers. It is quaint, quiet and food is still as good as it can be.

We all have our guilty food pleasures that are generally not the best choice when it comes to things to stuff down our throats. One of my big ones is definitely Chinese food. And when I say Chinese food, I'm not talking food that you might eat if you went to China. I'm talking about that North American interpretation of it. You all know what I'm talking about. That addictive, MSG laden, take-out or delivery crap that we were all used to before restaurants opened up preparing the real recipes of foods you'd find over in Beijing or some other truly Chinese place.
Now picture with me if you will, that same North American Chinese food but made with actual quality ingredients, prepared by really good cooks, and without all the chemical crap that makes you feel awful about 15 minutes after you eat it! THAT is what I was amazed to find at Toko. This food was amazing! So light and full of complex flavours and prepared to perfection. I am in love! Finally I can fulfill my craving for my guilty pleasure without feeling guilty or sick to my stomach after I give in. -

Not bad for Chinese. Their Tan Tan noodles was soupy which was strange but still edible. The noodles tasted like instant noodles with a few spoons of mince and satay sauce.
The wonton noodles however for under $5 is probably the best value meal on the menu. With 8 wontons, a few slivers of bbq pork and 2 pieces of broccoli at least it was decent. Doubt I would be back but for convenience, I will probably walk in. Service was great and the place was popular for lunch with a long line of locals who work in the area. -

Fantastic place! Great service and great food. The home made gyoza were amazing, and the main beef dishes we had we very tasty and not oily.
I really recommend this place. -

This small restaurant is tucked away and hiding. Wish they had a chain cause their noodles are delish!
I always get the angel hair chicken chow mien noodles with black bean sauce. Reasonable prices too!
This is a cute little nooky that offers a casual setting for dinner. I recommand this place for lunch or take out.
They always serve it super fresh and pipping hot which I love!
Most importantly it's never greasy which tends to be the norm for Chinese cusine.
Fun fact; Sarah McLachlan vouches for this place too. She even has her picture hanging on the wall with a comment and her autograph. I guess she must love it here! -

Skip the ramen. Men-ya's up the street has significantly more authentic and tastier japanese ramen.
The chinese food here hits the spot, filling and inexpensive. I feel like the taste is geared towards a western palate and sensibilities. Kinda like a canadianized version of cantonese comfort food. -

Mmmmm Lemon Chicken.......
5 Stars you ask? How?
Easy, Toko! Hands down my favorite Chinese food in the city, and probably some of the most reasonable.
Lemon Chicken, Beef and Broccoli, Soy Chow Mein...really anything on the menu. They even do a fantastic Agedashi Tofu.
I only ever go for dinner, which is awesome because the place is empty. They are off the beaten path a bit, and a bustling business lunch venue, but dinner is always empty, so we get great service and even better food.
An easy 5 Star! -

This would be on my top 3 takeouts in Vancouver. I would give them a 5 for sure, but I just phoned, and they have changed their hours to M-F 11am-6pm. Closing at 6pm? Strange and sad! Why? Because their food is spectacular, they have a huge menu.
Try the Shanghai Stir-Fry Noodles, Hawaiian Fried Rice, and/or the Beef Lettuce Wrap!
I presume they are closing earlier to focus on the lunch/catering crowd. I guess I will just have to order earlier, because I can't imagine life without Toko takeout!
Note: Eating in is fine, too, but I live nearby, so nearly always take out. -

So many noodle-icous items to choose from. If you like good noodles and Asian spice, you cannot go wrong with this place. Toko's is a noodle manufacturer but has a restaurant as well.
This place kinda lacks in ambiance but it makes up for it with flavour.
It's really reasonably priced and there are a ton of vegetarian friendly options. I went with the szechuan noodles with vegetables and it was great. All the dishes come a la carte but the dish size is pretty big so you might be happy having it on its own. However, if you brought your appetite and a half grab an appie, there are so many choose from. -

Okay, it's been twice now that I've been shafted by breaded chicken dishes. The first time was at a Chinese place at the Pacific Centre Mall (which didn't really surprise me) and the second was the very next day at Toko with the four-spice chicken (which surprised me plenty). The only reason why I'm not handing this place a two-star smackdown is because every other co-worker I was with for lunch seemed fine what they were eating, which after made me question if I was being too unreasonable with my expectations. The chicken, after all, did taste all right, although about halfway through I started becoming overwhelmed by the sweet and tangy sauce. But the service was good (they let all ten of us get separate bills), and the agedashi tofu a co-worker shared with me was, at worst, middle-of-the-road. And when it comes to agedashi tofu, I've had worse. Much, much worse.
I do find it annoying how there are way too many schizophrenic Asian places out here in Vancouver that think they can get away with dipping their toes in several different food cultures. Maybe they don't think people can tell the difference? I still couldn't figure out after we left if the place was Chinese or Japanese (possibly even Thai as well). I guess the answer to that is who cares, it's not like I'm looking to this joint to provide a definitive dining experience anyway. -

This is definitely one of those hidden gems in Vancouver. It's a noodle factory with a restaurant attached to it. Although the exterior is quite unassuming, the food is not. Whatever asian cuisine(mostly chinese) you are craving, Toko makes there own version at a reasonable price. I've tried many dishes here and everything is delicious, but most notable are the Ramen Noodles, Lettuce Wraps, Spicy Salt & Pepper Spareribs, Chicken Laksa, and the Thai Fried Rice. Service is always friendly and polite! They now open until 9:30pm Wed-Sat!

Best Tan Tan noodles anywhere, way better than any Chinese/Shanghai restaurant's or any Ramen shops in Japan's Tan Tan. And the thing is the older version from the old chef was even better!
