On our way out of Point Reyes and to the wonderful Tomales Bay, we decided that we needed a jolt. Out of the sleepy little street, I noticed a line for coffee and seemed like the right spot to stop.
There was quite the line, but I don't think they expected the crowd on a sleepy New Year Sunday. I didn't mind too much, since there is so much around to check out.
Two Cappuccinos later and we were on our way. I needed the energy for the shucking I was about to do. :)Listed in: Crazy about Coffee

Coffee was excellent and the cookie was fine... But the guy that took my money short changed me 5 bucks.... maybe my fault for not counting while i was standing there... but i did when i sat down and it was too late to reproach.
Short change artist,,,,,beware !!!! -

The nearby Bovine Bakery is notorious for being an "espresso-free" establishment, making Toby's an ideal choice for all your macchiattos, lattes, Americanos, etc.
The prices are competitive, and even for drip coffee one pays the same as at Bovine. Baked goods are not as plentiful, but they are locally produced just across the street at Stellina's. If you want espresso on the go in PRS, this is probably your best bet.
Oh yeah, unlike Bovine this place is CASH ONLY. -

A cute little place to stop by for espresso drinks - their cappuccino was really good, but cups are kind of small. Still got that "ahh" after the first sip though.

Love the coffee, love the herbal tea, love the sweet little spot in the feed barn. Really a treat -- I come here every time I go to point reyes station.

Updating to a 3 star as I had a little better experience another time recently. But the coffee always seems a little tepid still to me....

Review from Chi I.
San Diego, CA
After having lunch in San Geronimo, my friends and I drove out further into West Marin with no real destination in mind. All I knew was that I was craving coffee. Driving through this mostly rural area, full of green fields, a vast reservoir and cheese stands every few miles, you won't find many (any?) Starbucks. Luckily we stopped off at Point Reyes. We found a little market called Toby's (it's more of a general store with a selection of fresh fruit, bottle seasonings and jams, and even a little gift shop and photo gallery), which also had a coffee stand! (Hallelujah!)
I'm a simple gal and ordered their house brew with cream and milk. I also treated myself to a chocolate chip cookie. The combo of the sweet cookie and slightly bitter-sweet coffee hit the spot!
Make sure you have cash though; the bar only takes cash. If you need to withdraw, it's no biggie. There's a bank a block away. -

You never expect good coffee to come out of a barn, but it's always nice to be surprised.
Toby's is a great place for a last pick-me-up before a long day hiking, or as a welcome back to civilization after a few days camping. -

Yes, you can get a "hand crafted" espresso drink in Point Reyes Station!
We asked around, and the locals pointed us to this little window coffee shop inside the main door of Toby's Barn. The barista happily cranked out a small single nonfat latte for me, and My Lady's choice of tea. We enjoyed the late afternoon sunshine on the outdoor furniture inside the barn, and listened as two musicians jammed on guitar and mandolin. Hundreds of sparrows played in the rafters, and tons of freshly baled hay filled the air with their grassy scent.
We could see a restroom sign behind the barn, across the street. Nice, clean public restrooms greeted us in a public park there. -

They have really good coffee, I usually stop here when I am in the point reyes area to get some coffee before driving home.

Great coffee and the BEST scone I've ever eaten in my life. It was incredible. Which is absurd because something as insignificant as a scone should never be "incredible". But it was!
Toby's coffee bar is a great place to stop up in Point Reyes and relax with a warm drink on a foggy, rain-sodden day. When it's warm, there's plenty of space and sunshine. When it's cold, there's spaceheaters so that you can still be outside with your drink. It's also right next to a pretty cool deli/market store.
But I would probably almost drive back here from SF just for that scone. Wow. -

This is a rather nifty little coffee bar built into the corner of an agricultural-themed business located on the main drag in Point Reyes. While it doesn't look as slick as the latest green coffee-dispensing place from Seattle, their coffee, and baked goods, are quite tasty.
Great coffee, tasty baked goods - what's not to like? -

Espresso in a feed barn, brilliant.
June and the gang are running a splendid little joint there at Toby's. Aside from the top-notch quality of the coffee itself (and the Brickmaiden Bread treats they sell) there is an amazing sense of community and comfort in this old barn. Sitting amongst bales of hay, fresh herbs and the occasional farmers market over a delicious and eco-friendly latte, is really one of the best ways I could imagine spending an early morning. -

What more can I say... Toby's Coffee Bar produces the best espresso drinks I've ever had. From this little hole in the wall next to piles of feed and hay come beautifully poured lattes and cappuccinos, complete with a milk and espresso fern or heart to cap it all off.
The espresso tastes excellent - sweet and caramel-like, not the slightest bit bitter - and pairs wonderfully with the warm, slightly sweet (local) Strauss organic milk they use. And in case anyone is wondering... they use Taylor Maid brand coffee here, an excellent organic brand roasted in Sebastapol (and it's available in Toby's Feed Barn next door). There is something about using local ingredients that makes their espresso taste even better (granted coffee isn't truly local, but Taylor Maid is as close to local as you can get).
I've also heard that their barista takes part in national barista competitions - he's the real deal. -

This place is like a cute caffeine sanctuary at the beautiful end of the world.
You've been meandering through woods and valleys and then you come out to Pt.Reyes Station, where you can finally refuel, sit down with a capuccino and enjoy the mellow Marin rustic-hippy-woodsy vibe.
The coffee was good, and the chocolate-cherry-almond cookies were amazing. Write a special review amazing, chewy and perfect. Drive the distance amazing. This tiny little shack is perfect in its environment and totally appreciated. -

The BEST coffee I have had!!! We were on our way back from Bodega Bay and in desperate need of a caffeine hit. We see the sign for Toby's Coffee Bar but... where is it?! Surely it's not in the barn??
I had a latte and my husband had the mocha and we were in heaven over the coffee! Organic and fresh and it just doesn't get better than that!! -

Wish I had a better customer service experience here, considering how cute and hip this little place is...
I stood in line, waited patiently, was all ready to put in my order to the woman standing behind the counter until she opened her rather rude mouth. I asked to have an iced americano which i like to drink on occassion when I've had too many lattes that day which is my first drink of choice. She took one look at me and said, "Uh, I cannot do that for you. We dont do those. That's not a coffee drink."
-I was shocked by her rude mannerisms and replied, "well, that is the drink I would like and if you refuse to make me that then perhaps I shall take my business else where."
The woman then gave me some other side remark which seemed to represent another insult at my coffee choices. Which by the way I would like to say that I know my coffee, my espresso and the effect of water mixed with fresh shots. ..I also have been a barista for several coffee shops in Sonoma county including Peet's. ..anywho after about a handful of jabs at my choices and my body half turned ready to leave, the woman then proclaimed, "Oh okay, okay for you we can make this one exception. I suppose. I suppose we can make that for a steep amount of about $3.75 plus some free wise-ass remarks."
I decided to get my caffeine fix dspite this woman and ordered an iced latte instead. She then pleaded, "oh but we can make you an iced americao". I replied, "no thank you since it's obviously not what you "do" here."
I paid and then noticed Iced Americano's were on the menu, so I told her in the most serious matter of fact tone I could muster, "By the way, next time you give someone a hard time about that order, keep in mind it is on your permanent menu behind you."
-The woman then got all flustered and mumbled something like, "oh yea I wish i could take that down.."
Which means this woman may not even be the owner!!! and she still has the audacity to speak so rudely to the customers.
Someone please give this woman some customer service training...for this Coffee Joint actually has delicious coffee, just lousy cashiers.... -

Wow, horrible customer service before I could even step foot in the door. Young kid working there that looked around 18-20 years old was extremely rude before we even went inside, so we turned around and got back in the car and left. It's a pity as I was scouting locations for an exotics car group to stop and grab coffee and snacks while on a road trip. At least we know we'll be skipping this place.

RUDE RUDE RUDE employee.
Man, what a chip on this young guy's shoulder.
It was around 9 am on a Friday morning-we walked up to th ewindow, and while the pastry was very good, the attitude really ruined it.
I'm sure the negative reviews will not matter, b/c there are not that many coffee shops in town, but honestly, if the people working here dislike their jobs so much, they should really find new ones.
The whole interaction was unnecessarily rude-all we ordered was a single coffee and a pastry! And just to give you an idea (in case you cannot imagine how a short interaction could contain so much rudeness), when I said thankyou to him after paying, he replied 'yup' and turned around and walked away, in the most curt, surly way possible. Bizarre.
And it would appear that this town is weary of all the 'day trippers' from marin and the city, but we were from san diego, and this joint should keep in mind that word does travel, and reviews do matter. Lame.
The coffee was average at best, btw.
We were there the same time last year, and the coffee was the same. It's okay, but as far as bay area and especially north bay coffee goes, it's just average.
If you want the best cappucino or latte you have every had (and I have had many great drinks, including in Italy), head to the Flying Goat in Healdsburg...that place knows how to make a drink, and gives perfectly polite service (again and again and again, too!). I'm not looking for flowerly, touchy feeling, but basic human courtesy.
The next time I am in Pt Reyes, I will avoid this place. -

We love this coffe stand in the feed barn and come here every weekend when the Farmers Market is happening. Love their Latte's and Hot Chocolate. Enjoy your drinks outside on a bench or take a seat on a hay bale in the barn!
I would definitely recommend coming here for your caffeine fix! -

coffee was alright, lady got a mocha and I got a cappuchino.
I'm sorry to say this but the starbucks near my office is much better.
but I give them a bonus for making the designs and such on the coffee. -

i wrote about bovine, and then we came here. i guess bovine isn't the only coffee option in tiny point reyes station!
that said, it did seem that bovine was more of the cozy neighborhood joint, and toby's catered to the younger, hipper crowd (it's only a bar, after all.) either way, both places had great coffee, and i happily encourage you to check out both!Listed in: brr, it's cold out here..., a weekend in marin

I'm sorry, but I didn't have the same experience as others here. I got a large coffee, and was quite disappointed by its watery consistency and overall lack of strength and flavor. Next time I'm in town, I'll give them another shot, though.

An hour is a long way to drive for coffee....but I do every week. Getting out the door for an early AM horseback ride is easier when I rise to the challenge of hitting Toby's before my ride...and sometimes after. Their Cappuccinos are the best! And of course, almost too pretty to drink. Pastries are delicious too, and walked over from Stellina's the restaurant across the street, while still piping hot or warm.

Stumbled across this place on our way back from tasting oysters at The Marshall store. My bf needed a caffeine fix and it turned out to be the perfect place for it. It's uniquely located at the entrance of the feed barn but still rather cozy with a few tables outdoors for a nice relaxing cup of freshly ground organic lattes.

This place epitomizes what's best about West Marin. It's small, friendly, community-oriented little hang-out. Pull up a seat at one of the picnic tables and enjoy watching the walkers, bikers, horse-back riders along the main street of Point Reyes Station. The baked goods are super tasty - I strongly prefer them to the ones over at Bovine Bakery. The chewy chocolate cookies are beyond delicious. And yes, there's free wi-fi, so if you've been suffering from lack of cell or internet connection while you've been out in the "wilds", here's the place to reconnect. But it's also a great place to connect with actual people, read the bulletin board, smell the fresh hay in the adjacent Toby's Feed Barn. Kick back and enjoy a cuppa!

in northern california, no need suffering through the marginalization of coffee... there are la marzacco machines ingesting organic coffee beans within 10 yards of each range rover and prius. toby's being no exception to this wretched overkill; yesterday the parking lot held 4 range rovers and 5 prius and twice that number of northface-clad humans all seemingly enjoying toby's coffee in holier-than-thou bleach-free/recycled/hand-stamped cups. northern california is very annoying, but still. saving the world one espresso at a time...

toby's coffee bar is officially my favorite coffee place. i used to like ritual roasters and places like that when i lived in the city, but i never liked living in the city, and i'm much more a fan of the country. so it's really nice when you can be in one of the most beautiful places on the west coast and have one of the nicest lattes all at the same time.
