Toast is the Cafe I have been waiting to find in Sidney for years. It has been 2 1/2 years since I've been on Vancouver Island visiting my folks here in Sidney By The Sea. What I remembered was the cafes were so-so, not "I LOVE IT". For my first week on the island I was having my typical so-so experience, feeling disappointed and driving to Victoria on occasion. Then I stumbled upon Toast. Toast and I had a rocky start because of their hours of operation. The first couple of times I tried to introduce myself to their delights they were closed. So here is the scoop on that. They close at 4pm Monday thru Saturday. They are also closed on Sunday. Apparently, they take the day of rest seriously. I for one was wanting to rest in their comfy lair on a magical Sunday morning in Sidney. I am not sure what time they open. For safety of disappointment I wouldn't arrive before 7 am.
Now to the goods. My first time inside was cafe heaven for someone craving decent espresso. They provided me with that...thank you! They also have a wonderful decor with photos or different rock and roll musicians, and since rock and roll is the beat of my heart I knew I'd found the cafe for me in Sidney By The Sea. If you listen carefully you can hear some glorious rock in the background sometimes.
I've been back numerous times, and have always been happy with my espresso. Yesterday I had one of their Wild Pacific Salmon Pastry thingy ma bobs for a mere $3.50. It tasted great with their dipping sauce. I also branched out and tried a mocha. It was wonderful. It had the perfect amount of chocolate... awesome, and as an added benefit it came with a cool design on top.
What I can say to you dear Yelpster is give them a try. I know I will be continuing to frequent Toast while I'm here. As a matter of fact today is my birthday and I am soon to be walking out the door to start my day with an espresso at Toast.
Be well!
PS. I checked on their hours. M-F 6:30am - 4pm. Saturday 8am-4pm. Sunday is the day of rest... wait until Monday Cafe junkie.
Toast uses Organic Fair Trade Salt Spring Coffee. -

This is a cozy cafe with a more hip vibe than the competition in this neighbourhood. They brew some great coffee and have a decent selection of light lunch fare and sweet treats. Also it's not a bad spot to bring Grandma as they have a pretty open floorplan with tables that are a good height for wheelchairs and they have a wheelchair accessible washroom.
They made a little tiny version of their hot chocolate for my Grandma and stuck it in a small teacup which she was able to pick up (she can't pick up a mug). Great staff and very attentive service. Able to cater to both the young folk in the area as well as the old. -
