It was great that they were able to take me in without an appointment on a busy weekend. Not needed to wait and the experience was great without rush.
I wish they can expand their color selections though. The massage was a bit short for a $30 mani, but the result was long lasting. The owner and girls working there are all very nice. My new favorite nail salon.Listed in: Time to get pampered

this would be the 3rd time i've come here and my polish has chipped within a few days. I expect for the amount I'm paying for the polish to hold up just as long as what I can do at home and frankly I am not seeing that happen here.
I had a super deluxe pedi here for Mother's day, and my pedi chipped before the 2nd day was up.
They do a good job making sure you are happy while you are there, but maybe they should use better base and top coats so that the polish can last.
Oh and you do have to pay a bit extra if you want the scrub now.
The only thing I think I like about this place anymore is that you don't smell "nail shop" while you are there and they typically have good movies playing.1 Previous Review: Show all »

I wanted to give an extra star because the owner of this place is so responsive to feedback and problems. The first time I tried togo to Tiptoes, I made an appointment and had to cancel because the police had posted signs all over, making it impossible to park. Although I canceled with the receptionist, the owner later called to find out what happened and to apologize.
Case in point #2 is the response he left to my review which you are able to read for yourself. He also called to apologize and offered to fix the chips on my gel nail manicure. I couldn't do so however because I'm out of town until next week.
The bottom line is that this is an establishment that cares about doing the right thing and taking care of customers. Even if something goes wrong, Tiptoes is honorable and wants to fix it, and to me, that's commendable.1 Previous Review: Show all »

I normally enjoyed my pedi/mani at Tiptoes. Last time I went, the Mani started to chipped in 2 days... I was going on a weekend trip to Seattle and I noticed the color was fading. I noticed the lady that did my nail when painting my nails didn't paint the edge of my finger nails... all the ladies in the past would color the edge of the nail too. This time it wasn't. If it's a lighter color, you can tell but with a red color, it's kind of noticeable.

I Love this place! I've only been here once but I will tell you that I will be back! All the employees were nice and very accommodating. We were greeted as soon as we walked in, we were offered water, they took our purses and put them on the book shelves. We picked our colors (tons, tons of choices) and got pampered. It wasn't all rushed like other places I am use to. I will be back!! Yay! Glad I found you on Yelp!

The woman at the front desk is so rude! I had to leave early and my nails were probably a bit wet and she scolded me! She sat there talking to me in a rude tone for a minute or so while everyone else was just staring at her. It's not the first time either.. the las time I was in she was scolding one of the women who worked there - in the same tone. The woman's english wasn't great and she was going off on her in front of customers. This woman needs to chill out and relax.
Whew... okay.. well besides her everything is great. I've only gotten mani/pedis here and have never had anything to complain about. The women working are so sweet and lovely. My paws are shiny and beautiful! -

What a great neighborhood find! I've recently moved from Cow Hollow to Potrero, and after a couple not so great experiences at other local spas I found Tiptoes.
They have a $35 early bird mani/pedi deal as long as you get there before 3pm, awesome! Inside is super clean, zen-like with a fantastic selection of polish colors. The staff is very friendly, they did a great job on the mani/pedi and they really put some elbow grease into it when at the massage portion of the service. The BEST thing about the place is they play super chill, old school R&B on the speakers (not too loud) and also have big screen TVs playing new movies with subtitles.
I'll definitely be going back! -

I love this place! I started coming in about 2 years ago when a women I worked with (who had lovely eyebrows) told me about Sophia- LOVE her! She does a really fantastic job on waxing and is seriously the sweetest person ever. I have never gotten a mani/pedi from them but I will go to Sophia as long as I live in SF.
The staff is really nice too and they always accommodate my last minute calling for an appointment :) -

What a great find! I only wish it were closer to home. Had brunch at Foreign Cinema with some girlfriends and found Tiptoes on Yelp!
Luckily we had made a reservation because the place was packed when we arrived. After choosing our nail colors (great selection of Essie and Opi colors), we were each seated in a large cozy chair. I'm glad they seated us all together - I've been to plenty of other nail salons where even though you made a reservation together, you're split up and deprived of girl talk time. The chairs were comfy (but not massage chairs). We were offered tea or water... and the tea was quite delicious and actually served in a real mug! The ladies did a quick efficient job at $25 for a basic pedicure, $15 for a basic manicure. -

LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!
I am a San Francisco native that works in Burlingame and would rush from work to travel to Downtown Oakland for nails then to waxing at another place in Oakland. It was quite the hassle every two weeks and an experience that was supposed to be relaxing was always exhausting. Finally a good friend of mines referred me to Tip Toe's which is only 6 minutes from home. I received a gift certificate from my co-workers to go there, this past December 2011, for my birthday and what a gift that was! I had an appointment to get the works!!
Sophia is an angel sent from the heavens above. She is amazing! Professional, pleasant and down-to-earth! She gave me a facial, massage, eyebrow and brazilian wax that were amazing! She made me feel so comfortable I got a good nap in and even was awakened by my own snoring lol. In my fourteen years of waxing my eyebrows, it was refreshing to know how much passion she puts into her craft as my eyebrows were for the first time PERFECT!!! Then the brazilian waxing was the most enjoyable as her "breathing technique" works miracles. They do not double-dip!!! I was finished with Sophia and went on to have my mani/pedi done. I will say I would have liked a little more massaging to my feet but it was still a good job overall.
The decor is so hip and chic! The chairs are very comfortable and cute. There are little cubes to put your belongings in next to your chair. The tools are santized. I feel right at home there. Everything is in its place and extremely sanitary which is very important to me. The staff is very friendly and welcoming always checking on you, offering water or tea in cute little mugs, and checking to make sure your experience is a good one. Its truly like a mini vacation for me to go there for pampering.
Overall I rate Sophia and the Shop 5 stars; and I rate my mani/pedi 3.5-4 stars.
I am a customer for life...LOVE THIS PLACE!!!! :) -
Review from Julia D.
My mother and sister were raving about this place, and today we finally came here. I am not one for long beauty treatments or girly endeavors, but this was definitely a nice middle ground.
Noted good things:
1. Lots of magazines.
2. Comfortable leather chairs.
3. Very sweet women work there. I originally chose a yellow color, but when she put on one toe, she asked me if I liked the color, and I didn't. She then helped me pick out a cool red color. She was super helpful and urged me to look better!
4. Complimentary tea!
5. Great foot/leg massage!
6. A real mix of people getting treatments and not snobby at all, or loud.
7. Free Red Vines, Blow Pops, and mini Snickers!
8. Free samples of lotion.
9. Very clean and sanitary.
All in all, a great experience. Would definitely say it's one of the best pedicures I've gotten. -

I love tiptoes - particularly because they have chick flicks you can watch while you get your nails done so you are not bored. Mostly, I love Sophia, one of the waxers there. She does a bikini wax faster than you can say "bikini" and has made my eyebrows amazing. Highly recommend!

I love Tiptoes! A testament to my love for them is that I drive clear across town for mani/pedis there when there are at least 20 nail salons in spitting distance from my house.
So love...
-Sophia (best wax in town...and I've been to the super fancy places). She is meticulous, kind, responsive, and gentle.
-Movies. If I don't drag a girlfriend to join me and chat, I do enjoy the hour of zoning out to slow jams and the hypnotic closed-captioning of the romcom on the t.v.
-Mani/Pedis. They generally last and are well done.
-Candy:)
-Comfy chairs
But kinda wish...
-Pedicures involved more scrubbing, exfoliating, whatevering to help get rid of my calloused cracked heels. For the cost, those footsies should be baby smooth. Though I love the polish job, the callouses seem to stick around and my feet feel rough. Even right after.
-Pedicures involved more massaging.
-My OCD self could be guaranteed a more sanitary option than the foot baths.
-They offered more variety of polish brands - including non-toxic ones.
-They were in my neighborhood! -
Review from Cindy L.
I used to go here alot. The lady in the front told me that if I bring in my bf on my bday I can get a buy one get one free pedi / mani whatever. I was like oh sweet. thats so nice of her. My first 4 experiences with them were pretty good. I was trying to book over the phone and I asked the lady on my bday if I can bring a friend to get the birthday special. She said there's no such thing. Ass.
I brought my girl friend in (even better than bf cus girls will actually come back) in anyway, I went to get some dark blue gel nails and pedi. I got dark blue (DEEP SEA BY GELISH) done by trina - it was horrible. My nails were filed round, she cut my skin, and she did two layers for dark blue and some part of the nail was not dark enough, I dont think she can see clearly. I dont know. She did an okay job on the left hand, but she half ass-ed the right hand. Then the girl in the front said it was because i did not let her cut enough of the cuticle. This doesn't explain the sloppy job on the right hand.
Anyway, lets talk about the pedicure: So I broke one one of my big toe nails, not really break but i was missing an edge cus of Vegas. so I went in trying to look for a light pink color that wont make missing nail as obvious. The lady in the front basically bitched at me saying its either u take this dark brown color or you go home with nothing. Who the fuck are you to talk to me like that? Wow. She told me shes like an interior designer and shit like that, that shes really good with colors. But shit man don't fucking prescribe something before profiling your customers man. It's a very general rule, she should know that since shes in interior design, that's probably why shes an nail receptionist right now. You always listen to why a customer wants before you recommend something. My whole purpose was to not have my missing edge be that obvious. Why the fuck are u telling me to use dark brown or go home? Its like a fucking doctor telling me to cut my leg off cus my knee hurts.
I do have to say that Helen is really nice and good at what she does, when she saw my gel nails and I she saw how disgusted I was with the gel nails, she came over (she helped me with a pedi before when I went there my first time) and helped me made the gel nails less bad looking. So ask for helen if you guys go there. or ping for gel nails.

Love Sophia. Seriously.
I've been to Tiptoes before with a party and was very satisfied with my pedicure and both the attentiveness and hygiene of the salon although my stingy self doesn't like paying for something I can do myself (though I'm not nearly as thorough or high quality)! The management is soothing and alert, quick to provide beverages if needed. The place has never been empty when I've gone, which speaks to their popularity.
I've recently come for a couple of waxing services (to be unnamed...) and good God, Sophia is amazing. I'd never been waxed before so I researched extensively and THANK YOU FELLOW YELPERS for recommending Sophia to me!
The space is clean and welcoming and Sophia is such a sweetheart. She shows you breathing techniques and rubs the waxed area to reduce pain and explains maintenance techniques. Since she takes such great steps to keep her clients happy, waxing hardly hurt at all which is saying a lot coming from the girl who's pain threshold is so low, I cried at flu shots till I was wayyyy older than I'd like to admit.
I can't speak to the quality/price ratio for other places, but I'd happily spend my money and time with Sophia. I've had an easy time booking her day-of for some reason, but she's very popular so call ahead to book (Tues-Sat)!! I most definitely recommend both Tiptoes and Sophia!!!!! -

I ADORE Tiptoes!
I took Joane P. there for her birthday this past Saturday and have had a mani/pedi there before as well. The scheduling was super easy, both of our Gelish manis were skillfully applied and our pedis were very relaxing. Cheryl really did a great job of recommending colors for us, she has a great eye!
I brought a bottle of champagne and this was served in their champagne glasses and we were given back our unfinished bottle. I really thought this was a very nice touch as most places don't have the proper stemware.
I will definitely be back and will be planning some showers there as well, thanks ladies! -

Great place to go get a mani/pedi or anything, really. Tiptoes will probably turn into my go-to nail place, seeing as I live right up the hill.
I called in last Saturday to see if I could get a polish change done and the place was booked- boo. Oh well, my fault for not getting an appointment. Got a call back 15 minutes later telling me someone was running late and that they could squeeze me in- yay!
This is by far the most professional looking nail salon I've been to. Super nice chairs, great decor, calming bg music and girly movies on TV (with subtitles, of course). Howard immediately welcomed me with a smile and sat me down, offered me something to drink. I took some green tea. I was there for probably the lowest priced service ($9 for a polish change) and was feeling pampered still, which speaks a lot to the attitude of the owner and atmosphere of the place. May was great- she took her time filing my nails down and applying the new layers of polish and was very meticulous. Beautiful job and was super professional, didn't chitchat with the other techs but instead gave me advice on how to keep my cuticles from cracking and peeling (apparently cuticle oil is better than lotion- didn't know that!).
Will definitely be back, soon, to get a manicure and pedicure. Tiptoe's services cost an extra couple bucks more than your average salon, but its definitely worth it, especially because they have a guarantee that their work will not chip in 3 days. If it does, you can come back and have it redone! Thanks for a relaxing experience! :) -

SOPHIA is amazing. About a year ago I got my first bikini wax ever from her. She was great, she made me comfortable in a very uncomfortable situation, and my bush never looked so good. Still, I have commitment issues so I went to others for my waxes over this past year (usually lured in by evil Groupons). But no one comes even close to Sophia. (Even the well-respected Lonni of Lonni's Punnany)
Sophia has a way about her that is very calming and competent. She makes sure you are always comfortable and let's you know what she is doing. She takes her time. She is a complete perfectionist -- she trims, waxes, and plucks when necessary. (My experience with other waxers were more like wham, bam, thank you ma'am.)
Thank you, Sophia! You are awesome. -

I was debating giving this place two stars but since the owner is real cool I decide to go for the three stars. Ive been going to tip toes since it first opened but have decided that the service I have been receiving has gone down hill. I use to automatically be offered something to drink but for last two visits I've had to out right ask while others around me are being offered. This place seems to cater to certain regulars/ new clients while I am feeling ignored. I will be looking for another salon to go to as the service at the front desk is less than desirable. Too bad tip toes just lost a regular customer.

New favorite nail place.
As you walk in, you are greeted warmly by Howard...who I assume is the owner? A super nice guy who makes you feel welcome and is very accommodating. I had no appointment but they moved things around for me so I was able to get in, get my nails done and be out within an hour.
And the girls did an amazing job on both my manicure and pedicure! So much attention to detail! My nails look fabulous.

Overall, a wonderful experience and I am making this a regular stop on my Saturday morning routine. -

Great salon, friendly staff and do perfect nails! Popped in today for the first time and had a great experience. Truly walked out with a perfect ten! Love that they have movies you can watch with subtitles and the whole ambiance of the place is very relaxing. You can tell the owners put a lot of thought into the vibe of the salon.
Sure you pay a little more than other nail places but it is totally worth it in this case. Only downside, they could have a better selection of Essie polishes, but their polish wall is extensive, I just particularly love that brand. -

Burlingame, CA
Great nail salon with courteous, friendly, professional service. The ambiance was nice and relaxing. When I walked in I was overwhelmed with the choice of nail colors and Cheryl (who worked the front) recommended a great choice for me which I got a lot of compliments afterwards.
It was nice and quiet without the loud chatter that you hear at other salons. Also, you can watch a movie (on mute with subtitles) which they show on their flat screen TVs. I got the early bird special so got a great deal for a mani/pedi ($35). After drinking a lot of tea (which they provide you) I had to use the restroom and ruined a nail buttoning up my jeans. They fixed it no problem without making a fuss about it like I experienced at other places. Cheryl was great as she checked on me periodically to make sure my nails were dry before leaving.
When I got home I saw that I had nicked my nail and called to see if I could get it fixed. What do you know they have a 3 day warranty on their work! -

I kind of don't want to write this review for the shear fact that more people will find out about the oh so wonderful Sophia who does some of the best eyebrow waxings around the bay. I can't talk for other waxings that she does there, but Sophia is so awesome when it comes to eyebrow waxing!
I go in about once a month - but be sure to not go in on Mondays as they are closed and call to make an appointment because apparently this is the hot spot to be at in the Potrero Hill area. Like I've mentioned in other reviews, I'm not really one to make appointments, but I've really grown to love Sophia's work, so for her, I will make reservations.
So the reason why Sophia is so awesome is that she's not only great at waxing eyebrows, she's also extremely gentle when waxing, which if you have sensitive skin like me is a major plus. I don't know what she does differently, but I hardly flinch when she's waxing. Sophia is also extremely kind and will remember you if you go in more than once - I love how personable she is!
I still have yet to go get my nails done at this place, but that will definitely happen in the near future. They have a great space with very comfy looking spa chairs for pedicures... And like I mentioned before, it seems like this is the hot spot for this area, so I can only imagine that the pedicures/manicures are good since there are always people in the spa at any given time getting their nails done! -

in need of a new nail salon, tiptoes seemed like it might just fit the bill.
i called to make a same-day appointment and they asked for my credit card over the phone to hold my appointment. i found this moderately odd but figured that they were a higher end salon who wanted to ensure their appointments showed up. still, peculiar.
i showed up and was greeted by a gal at the front desk - she was energetic and polite and directed me towards the polish wall. and might i say, HELLO POLISH WALL. uh, there are tons to choose from. i usually bring my own because i like some colors that nail salons seem not to have but tiptoes seem to have it all.
my manicure and pedicure were really great. the ladies were really meticulous, methodical, gentle, and sweet. i've made this my regular neighborhood nail salon even though i sometimes go to one near work.
+ the stations are thoroughly cleaned after each customer
+ there are two large tv screens playing chick flicks with subtitles
+ there's a little candy dish with chocolate opposite of the polish wall
+ great customer service
+ sweet and professional ladies
just to note...
the chairs are a little tricky to get in and out of. they are tiled and raised so when your feet are wet or have lotion on them it can be a little unsafe so be careful. -

This one-star (poor) review is for the pedicure -- not the waxing. (Bikini waxing I had there was first-rate and extremely sanitary: no double-dipping, etc.)
So, here's the deal: the pedicure was gorgeous and lasted for weeks. However, when I removed my polish at home, I discovered the Tiptoes "gift" that keeps on giving: white nail fungus. Since this was the 1st pedi I'd had all year in a place that doesn't use individualized soaking bowls, and I didn't have the fungus before the pedicure, I am 99.9% certain it came from Tiptoes. Won't go back, even though the staff is delightful.Comment from Howard H. of Tiptoes 10/13/2010

My sister brought me to this place recently. She came here a couple of times already and this time she brought me in too and ordered me a 30min hand/foot massage. I thought it was quite relaxing. It's hard to describe the experience in words if you haven't tried it out yourself. The woman was very friendly and she gave me lots of (outdated) magazines to read. The 30min passed by so quickly, I wish it was longer. But I'm not sure if I would come here again if it it would be out of my own pocket haha.

- ambiance: small and cute, posh, very very very clean
- price: little above average but i'm willing to pay the extra
- service: amazing and very friendly staff
I don't come to this place for my nails as I already have a salon set for that. but i do make my way here once a month for that special time.I wanted to try a place that has local anestetics when doing a full monte and saw that this place had this for a few more dollars for an additonal fee. Had it once but don't really need it.
Came here after doing research and seeing high ratings. I saw Sophia and well sophia is my gal to see once month. She is AMAZING and it barely hurts or feels like anything. After seeing her from month-to-month, i feel like i've become an expert on brazilian waxing and know all the science behind it. she uses small strips, the wax is perfectly heated, NEVER double dips, the room is SO clean and fresh, and she has a strategy to make your experience a good one (stop thinking dirty, not that way)
I may try this place for my mani and pedi because it looks like an amazing place and i know the people here will take good care of you.
Will i be back... EVERY MONTH!!!!

Got a mani and pedi plus here with a gf. The pedicure chairs were good and the service is excellent. The male owner that was there was super nice and accomodating. He asked if we wanted anything to drink and made us feel very comfortable. He was also setting up for a private group party after our appointments and it was really cute. He had some pretty platters and party stuff available for use. This is a great place for a group nail party.
As for the actual pedicure and manicure, it definitely wasnt the best pedicure and manicure I've ever received... but its good enough. I dont know if I would come back only because its really expensive. I paid 75 bucks for a mani and pedi which includes tip. That's too much for me. It was a great deal for my gf because she had a groupon deal. =)
My friend Grace who goes here all the time swears by this place... she loves it. =) -

I first wandered into Tiptoes to get a pedicure when I had a Living Social coupon to use. Because of the great experience, this is one of the few places I've been a repeat customer for after using one of those coupons.
It's an all around relaxing experience with movies to watch (subtitles) and a cup of tea to soothe the senses. I've become to love Ping and Jin as my go-to pedicurists - always patient and willing to help me choose and try out different colors if I want to see options on my nails.
Impeccable work. Just a bit pricier than other nail salons for a pedi ($25) from what my friends tell me. However, includes a scrub and a warm lotion massage that I look forward to every time!

Yep, 5 stars, as good as it gets! My mom had a nail salon for 10 years so I guess I'm pretty picky. Tiptoes make me smile :) I discovered this gem back in 2008.
I've tried a variety of their mani/pedi services as well as an AH-MAY-ZING massage by Amalia. I have yet to try their facials, waxing, eyebrow tinting, and eyelash extensions. But I don't really have a need for those...
I love the staff here. They make you feel at home and pampered. The owner, Howard, always make sure to get me tea or wine and checks to make sure things are going well through out my time at Tiptoes. The technicians are detailed, take their time, and don't sit their gossiping the whole time.
The ambience/decor is heavenly. You would never be able to tell from the outside of the building. Howard always has his soothing R&B Ipod playlist on...
I never feel rushed and usually spend at least an hour and a half there. Leaving Tiptoes is always sad...
