I love this mall. I wish it had stores in it! : P

    Here's why I heart Tinseltown:

Wooden wall art lining the halls (looks like places from around the world)
    Solid theatre
    Great dollar store
    Cute Asian clothing shops
    JNBY (expensive but great styles...)
    Ayden Gallery
    Sammi's Bubble Tea
2 hrs of free parking downstairs during the day
    Bright, airy and spacious.

Let's get some stores in this thing, k?

I still remember when Tinseltown was a completely dead place.  Other than the anchor tenant (the theatre up top), the place was deserted.  For many years, the entire ground floor was taken up by this furniture store (Viva Interiors).  Rent must've been cheap.

Today, the mall is a bit more lively, though the 2F is still completely dead.  However, the food court has a somewhat decent selection.  Downstairs, you have your dollar shop (Yoko Yaya), 7-11, and ghetto-food such as McDonald's.

One thing I always get a huge kick out of is a Chinese antiquities shop on 1F.  There's this incense holder that costs $80k.  I'm wondering if they've sold it yet.

If you come here, don't come here to shop.  Otherwise you'll be disappointed.

Oh yeah, parking is reasonable, and can be validated.

its okay for movies and such but for a mall that doesnt get much traffic thru it, the shops kinda suck. The few that are good are terribly overpriced, especially since you can walk 4 blocks to chinatown and get everything way cheaper and way more selection. The food court isnt great and the people working are all fighting to get one of the 40 people that wander up there during the daytime hours. I mostly went into this mall to cut thru to gastown places.considering its so close to a skytrain station they should really get more good shops and amp it up!

It's a nice mall. I like to go to the theatre there every now and then since it's never too crowded:)
overall I have nothing much to say about it, it's mostly for people who live or work in the area. I would definitely not go out of my way to eat or shop there.

I'm pretty sure the only reason anyone comes here is for the theatre. However, that can't be true, since the shops tend to stay in business. The food court isn't bad and this mall is never crowded, so it's not a bad place to duck out of the rain for a bit if you are in that end of town. The free parking is also a bonus.

Tinseltown. You certainly have changed since you were a lonely empty mall.
The neighbours around you are abundant and there is life inside of you.

What great joy it is to see you thrive after all these years.  After all, you were lonely and now, you're a part of the growing community.

With the likes of Starbucks, the theatre and Yoko yaya to name afew. I have to say you have to come down and check it out now. Sure there are still some empty stalls, but it's happy and vibrant and it has a purpose to now exist with flavour.

    BUBBLETEA BUBBLETEA BUBBLETEA!

This review is for the Sammi's Bubbletea shop on the second floor of the Tinseltown foodcourt. It is up the escalator beside the Taco food vendor.

It is CASH only but worth going to the ATM to get some money. There is one lady who works there and the lettering on the store sign is colourful like a children's jumping castle / play place!

Now you get lots of options with this bubbletea place - green tea, red tea, milk tea, fruit slush, milkshakes, hot drinks, etc etc etc. There are so many options.. They even have mango pudding that you can combine within your drink! Sounds kind of weird and interesting to the point that you want to try right!!!!!!  ... I have tried it.. and it's.. "interesting." There are jelly options - I have tried lychee and I have been told that there is coffee flavoured jelly as well!

They use real red bean (YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and can have it by itself with ice cream, or blend it into a slush - delicious! Their green tea milkshakes are to die for. Creamy rich and just full of flavour! Most of their slushes are from fruit purees but you can ask if it is real fruit.

You can also make special requests like no milk, less sugar.. all that stuff.. the lady is super accomodating.. and the prices are super reasonable. A fruit slush with bubbles is $4.00....what more can you ask for!

I have introduced this place to friends and people who have never tried BBT before and now they are hooked! So if you are looking for some place downtown... try this place - you won't be disappointed!

As indicated in many of the other reviews below, Tinseltown is a deserted and underwhelming space. I have enjoyed several exhibitions at the Ayden Gallery (http://www.aydengaller...), but the majority of my visits are to the Cinemark movie theater on the top level.

The theater is large, and boasts comfortable seating and relatively clean facilities. There is usually a good selection of both mainstream movies and films with limited distribution. Additionally, the building hosts validated underground parking for moviegoers. However, I find the service at Cinemark Tinseltown terribly mediocre (the lights have been left on during many screenings that I have attended, and the temperature control system is appalling). When I watch movies on the big screen, I prefer the Scotiabank or Fifth Avenue theaters instead.

A big movie theatre.  Tinseltown always has  good selection of the blockbuster and critic's favorites playing.

Tuesday must be their slow night, because they offer discounted movies all evening.  With ticket prices being what they are everywhere in the city- that's a deal!

The theatres offer stadium seating with very comfortable chairs.  Lots of room- but get there early to choose the perfect spot.

This place always seems so deserted. It was built with the intention of being the next big mall downtown with high end fashion brands from all over Europe and the world.

Unfortunately it's proximity to the DTES just really meant that demographic didn't exist there.  It does house a nice theatre and is home to some great sample sales.

There's hope to be had as downtown slowly spreads further and further, but until it has fully gone to the edges of Chinatown this place will seem a little desolate and pointless to visit except for catching a movie.

The rest of the mall is pretty much a write-off, but I hope it survives for the sake of the Tinseltown theatre perched on top. This is the movie theatre that can be counted on to show that great indie the Georgia Straight just reviewed, as well as the big popular movies. They also host a lot of special events, including Vancouver International Film Festival shows and other screenings throughout the year.

It's located right near Stadium SkyTrain, and you can also park underground free for three hours by showing your movie ticket to the attendants.

Probably a lot of theatres do this now, but Tinseltown was the first movie theatre in town to install really comfortable seats that allow you to lean back and recline - but without bothering the person behind you. As a rule, people seem more civilized here than say, Metropolis. Must be that rarified third-floor air.

I've seen my fair share of movies here - especially cut-price matinees - and I always have a good experience.

For a mall, Tinseltown offers quite a personal experience. It's never been busy here (that I've seen) and I'd place money that even during the Christmas craziness it is still an echoing hall of emptiness. As a result I've received great service from some of the store clerks.

But the warren of little unique stores are a fun rainy-day exploration. Wander through the display rooms of modern furniture, admire the sparkle at the jewelry stores, then adventure through the curious aisles of Yokoyaya 123.

The Cinemark Tinseltown theater must keep this place in business.

My only words of caution are do not sit on the benches. If you've ever been enjoying a park only to have a strange guy begin to harass you, anticipate the same strange and uncomfortable situations here.

Tinseltown is vastly superior to the competition.  Located in Gastown, the theatre's external face, and indeed even its name, are reminiscent of another time.  The prices are far more reasonable than Scotia.  Such makes the aftermath of a bad movie far more bearable.  The greatest feature of them all is the reclining chairs, something that ought to be a staple of all cinemas.  The comfort and prices elevate this above the rest, the selection of films does not.  Unlike the mass conglomerate theatres, Tinseltown is not privy to all new releases.  There are however lesser known indie flicks showcased here.  Take a chance here on something that is not mainstream.  The movie going experience is far more memorable.

THIS IS FOR THE BUBBLE TEA PLACE IN THE FOODCOURT.  What a great bubble tea find.  Super competitive bubble tea market, so you have to expect certain basics done well.  Sammi's did that.  The bubbles where cooked perfectly.  Just enough chew but not undercooked.  What makes this place a slight nod above the rest: the variety.  I had the classic iced coffee with bubbles and the soft tofu with ginger and bubbles.  I must say I have never had soft tofu as a drink, but it was fantastic.  It added a whole new textural dimension to the bubble tea experience.  Both drinks were executed well, so I would have to give it four stars.

Alright, I have a bone to pick with Tinseltown-haters! Living close by has offered me the opportunity to peruse the labyrinth that is Tinseltown, and I have to tell you, the stigma behind the desertion and sketchy-characters is not all its chalked up to be.  There are some truly awesome stores and galleries in the mall, you just have to do some searching.  Asian designers have bought up or rented spots throughout the mall and have installed some interesting and unique stores.  One of my all time favourite stores is JNBY.  I nearly didn't want to tell anyone about it because its almost too good to share.  Fabulous structured sweaters, pants, jackets and dresses at stellar prices keep me coming back to the point where the owner offers me a job regularly.  There is a new jewellers that just opened, along with Rexall drugs, Starbucks, a food court with some of the best Indian food I've had and art galleries galore.  One in particular called Ayden Gallery which has become my new haunt, I won't tell you too much here because I will have to write an entirely new review for them.

You've heard enough about the fab theatres, now get out here and check out the local businesses that never fail to surprise me with their unique charm!
