I've never been to Timbre and been disappointed. The brunch is good (they manage to get sunny side up eggs exactly right, no mean feat) the dinner is good (their fries don't suck) and they have lots of tasty beer and cocktails to drink (and they'll make wee caesars if you ask nicely). It's a bit small so it's hard to go with a large group, but it's totally worth crashing the place with a large group because the atmosphere is cool and fun and totally relaxing.
Did I also mention they have the best caesar in town? Most places give you a bean or an olive or something, but Timbre practically stuffs a salad on top of theirs, and they actually mix in horseradish so it's properly spicy. Def. worth checking out. -

"TIMBRE!!!" is what you yell when something is about to fall over and lie dead on the forest floor. I wish this place would finish its crash and make way for a something that actually contributes something positive to Commercial Drive.
The food here is nothing short of terrible, and expensive to boot. I had a laughable green curry dish here once; it tasted literally like someone mixed nothing but a tiny dollop of Thai Kitchen curry paste with about 3 cans of coconut milk, threw that on top of boiled veggies and called it Thai Food.
Then there was the infamous mussel incident - the mussels had not been cleaned of their beards (come on, basic seafood prep 101!) and I ended up getting horrifically sick the next day. Now, I know better than to point fingers directly when it comes to food poisoning, as it could be anything at any time and without testing samples you can't be sure, but my intuition made me want to yell "TIMBRE!!!" every time I puked.
Then there was the time one of the servers "corrected" me on how to drink Guinness...I can't even remember what his point was, but it was wrong, weird and rude.
Avoid. -

My bf had been eyeing up this place on his drive home a few times, so we finally stopped in, and we were glad we did.
Cozy atmosphere, and got a seat right away even though there was a hockey game on. Nachos were pricey, but we only ate half, and realized they are $19 because they'll easily feed 4 people!! (guess a half order option could be nice)
It's a small menu, but everything looked pretty tasty, staff was lovely.
Would like to go back for brunch.
Will mention it was freezing cold inside the night were were there, large garage style doors left it pretty drafty! -

My friend and I had a really bad experience with one of the servers there. We went to the website to provide feedback on the unpleasant and, frankly, unacceptable service that we received and no one ever responded. We definitely will not be going back.

Great atmosphere. Nice staff. Great whisk(e)y selection. Delicious rustic food. Good music. Highly recommend their brunch. -

Brunch? Nothing to write home about. Unless there is bluegrass playing, which is pretty cool (they do this on Sundays).
Decor? Kinda cool: cozy and Canadian.
Clientele? Seems to waver between earthy/normal to douchbag-types and bimbo types. Come to think of it, there have been some good people-watching times there due to the latter types of crowds. Sorry to sound judgy, but I like to have an *idea* of these kinds of things since it really makes the atmosphere, especially in a noisy drinking establishment.
Experiences? The first few times I went there, I had a reasonable time. But the last few were bad. The service sucked, it was super busy, I felt crammed in, we waited forever for our food, and I ended up spending about $25 for ONE beer and some decent tasting food. I think I had a crab cake sandwich, which was good.
But the food would have tasted alot better if we'd been comfortable and serviced. And the bill would have seemed alot less too if the overall experience were more enjoyable.
I've been there several times over the past few years, and have left progressively less satisfied each time. It's probably a good place to sit and have a few drinks one afternoon to watch the game, or sit on the patio and watch the world go by, but don't expect to get a seat or good service most nights of the week. -

Timbre... doing their part to gentrify the neighbourhood.
$19 Nachos!? Really!? $16 Burger (not bad or anything, but definitely not to die for)
Whether it's live music or just the White Stripes cranked to the max you'll need to focus your lip reading skills if you wish to have any sort of conversation.
It's a shame that there are less and less places to grab a beer and a snack, hang out with some friends without needed to look for a second job to afford this city. -

Oh no!! Timber!! You changed your menu!! Where did your inexpensive nachos go?! Sure, we haven't hung out in a month, but that's no excuse to gussy yourself up and snub us low brow people.
My boyfriend and i came here a few Sundays ago and discovered their caesars were no longer on special... Unless i am crazy and they never WERE on special, but i really thought they were on Sundays...
I had come here quite awhile ago with my mom and another friend who were visiting from Edmonton, and we had a huge share plate of super tasty nachos, but these nachos were no longer on the menu. Everything also seemed... pricier. We spent a lot of time staring uncomfortably at the menu trying to decide what to do. I COULD have had a veggie sandwich for 14 dollars, and my bf COULD have had a club house sandwich for 16... but even after payday, i just can't pay that much for a damn sandwich.
This was the place we'd go if we wanted to have a nice dinner and a drink. We aren't too fancy, so spending more than 20 bucks each on a meal is out of the question, but Timber used to be a great place to meet our budget and exceed our expectations for quality. Thanks to their price increase (along with our friend HST) that isn't the case anymore. I mean, i guess we could just get food and no drink, but i still think anyone who pays 15 bucks for a sandwich is a sucker. I will probably still be back here for caesars if anyone from out of the country comes to visit and wants to try something very Canadian, but aside from that i'm not too sure.Listed in: Best Caesars

After spending a long morning apartment hunting, hubby and I stopped into Timbre to partake in some brunch.
I had the roasted red pepper omelette, which was nice, but nothing special. Also, I'm pretty sure the "roasted" red peppers were in fact just regular red peppers. Not a huge deal, but there you go. My DH had the corned beef hash, which actually looked really good and he seemed to enjoy it quite a bit.
Our waitress was attentive and very friendly, but not overbearing. The music was quite loud, but since we were both exhausted and not in the mood to have a super-involved conversation, it wasn't a problem. It is something to bear in mind for future visits, though.
Overall, Timbre is not a bad choice if you're hungry and kickin' about the south end of the Drive. With all the other great restaurants in the area though, it's not too hard to find something better. -

The last few times I have had Timbre's brunch I have been disappointed. Gone are the days that I would crave their delicious food with the sounds of bluegrass in my ears. Now, I struggle to get through mediocre eggs and hashbrowns that have clearly been deepfried.
It's still a solid choice - but nowhere near as good as it used to be.Listed in: The Brunch Glutton Has Her Say

I had brunch here a few days ago with some friends and it was alright. It was my second visit to Timbre. Didn't bother with a review until now, since I only had the yam fries last time.
It was pretty empty because it was a weekday morning so we snagged a table near the door and settled in.
I ordered the veggie hash with no mushrooms and added cheese.
It was alright... I requested scrambled eggs and they were pretty overcooked. The rest was decent. I'm glad I asked for cheese with it!
They were out of toast so we were offered toasted english muffins instead. I actually preferred this! I love english muffins!
I probably wont suggest Timbre to anyone, but I wouldn't be opposed to coming back.Listed in: BRUNCH

This place has great food and drinks, but what really keeps me coming back is the atmosphere. The crowd is fun and laid back and the staff is knowledgeable and attentive without being pretentious. It's really easy to get comfy on the polished wood bar, and there's often live music. I've seen some reviews complaining about prices, but I've always found them standard and reasonable. If you want pre-frozen packaged fast food, don't come here. If you want a fresh and innovative local experience that leaves you full and happy and possibly hungover, this is the place for you!

Limited tap selection (only 3 or 4) and pretty pricey food.
If it wasn't for the impressive selection of bottled beers, it would have been a one-star. Quite a few 650-750mL bottles of craft brew/share beer for around ~$8 - not cheap, but at least it adds some selection.
I've driven past this restaurant/pub in the summertime, and it looks like a great spot in the sunlight - with the open shutters, patio seats and log cabin styling. Too bad the food is overpriced and tap beer selection is so limited. Meh - can't have it all, I suppose. -

This place is a dichotomy, so awesome, and yet so mediocre. Here's why:
THE AWESOME - live bluegrass music while you eat? Yes please! Such a friendly atmosphere and general vibe, and the music is pretty sweet.
THE MEDIOCRE - the food. Their brunch, which has been raved about, did nothing for me. The scrambled eggs were actually a blob.. solid, and weird, and needed salt and pepper; come on people, scrambled eggs should never just be two eggs beaten!
They had some interesting bennies and a nutella french toast that sounded like sin, but I went for the standard breakfast to see how they did.
My plate came with a choice of bacon or sausage or ham: all pig variety. I try to avoid eating pig when I can, so I asked the waitress for chicken sausage, or something non-pig; and she told me they only have pork-based products. In Vancouver, in the 21st century, I'd expect a restaurant to carry non-meat alternatives, especially since I was just asking for no-pork, not complete veggie. Because of that, I asked if I could have extra fruit (the plate came with fruit) - I was served a small selection of the blandest melon I've ever tasted, it was clearly unripe and had been refrigerated so was super cold. The pan potatoes were also not awesome. There were 2 jams for toast, both of which were the cheap kind that taste more like sugared gelatin than fruit.
I also requested skim milk for my coffee, turns out they don't carry that either, 2% or higher only. I feel like this place is back in the 80's when it comes to menu accommodating.
I realise this makes me seem like I'm the pickiest high maintenance eater around - but I'm really not, I just have expectations of a restaurant within that price range in Vancouver, and I suspect you do too.Listed in: Brunch Love

On a nonchalant evening stroll with my furry sidekick Monty (he's a dog, just in case you're wondering), I caught a whiff of smoke reminiscent of an early September evening in cottage country.
Following the scent I was drawn closer and closer to an unassuming building. Surprisingly, with each puff of cedar-scented smoke it was also pumping out the sounds of live bluegrass!
Live bluegrass In Vancouver? It can't be! But to my and Monty's surprise, it was not a mirage in the middle of East Vancouver, but a real live restaurant by the name of Timbre (as in the french word for stamp, not "timber, here comes a tree falling on your head").
Timbre is located the perfect stumbling distance from the Commercial-Broadway skytrain station if you are minding your carbon footprint. In my case, I can foot print my way to Timbre in 10 minutes or less (well, at least on the way there).
It's convenient location, nice smell, and ridiculously enigmatic musical entertainment is only the beginning of the loveliness that is this gem on the Drive.
The food, the beer, and the cocktails- oh my! This is comfort food with a real wholesome vibe. Their nachos are piled higher than the folks relaxing in Victoria Park, ad the Monster Caesars should have been cast in Disney Pixar's latest blockbuster.
But it is the staff that really makes this place feel like the home away from home that it has become for me and many other East Siders.
If I don't see you next Sunday for brunch and you catch a furry black and white dog sneaking eggs off your plate, please send Monty home (and I apologize for his actions).
Yours faithfully: the Ninja Pirate

Review from kath r.
I like the vibe @ Timbre. I'm always drawn to it by the sidewalk seating area. The stools beckon me to enjoy a beer and watch the world pass by. And whilst I've whiled away many an afternoon doing just that, on this damp Sunday, I was here for brunch.
A night out dancing with the girls and I'd worked up quite an appetite. Lamenting the Ravens' loss, I ordered the crab cake benny (eggs medium); my companion the brie and veggie omelet, both came with crispy (some may argue burnt) home fries and fresh fruit garnish. Add individual mimosas and Jack n Coffee to round out the meal and we were in brunch business!
The food is good, solid fare. Tasty, nice presentation and cooked to order. Prices are extremely reasonable. Live Bluegrass Music makes for a nice soundtrack on a Sunday morning. Where Timbre stumbles is with their service. *sigh* Yes, it's the usual Drive affair; super friendly servers with all good intentions, just moving to a different tune. A slower tune. One that made me think we were in the service 'dead-zone'; you know, where servers are continually passing you by but never stopping at your table?
Perhaps they'd yet to feel the caffeine kick? - perhaps, but I think the omnipresent tunnel vision is to blame.
Service Rule 101: never walk from from Front of House to Back of House empty handed.
So Timbre:
I love the vibe, the menu's expansive, reasonably priced and the food is tasty. And if you don't mind a more relaxed pace then you're going love it! And if you do? Well, patience my friend. Sit back and watch the world pass. -
Review from Ryland A.
I really liked this little bar on the south end of Commercial Drive - and not just because the waitress was the most beautiful woman I saw in Vancouver. We stopped here for a happy hour drink and snagged a little table where we could again watch people walk up and down The Drive.
I had a tasty Granville Island Pale and my momma had a Dalwhinnie scotch that she really enjoyed. We ordered the bruschetta which was actually three Olive Garden style bread sticks cut in half and baked with all kinds of goodness on top. It was quite tasty though not really what we had expected.
As much as I liked Timbre, it loses a star for being just too expensive. The beer, scotch (not a generous pour) and appetizer cost $40. Way too much for happy hour.

I live on The Drive and love my neighbourhood, but have to admit I still struggle to find a good bar where I can prop myself up, settle in for some beers and kinda feel like a local.
I have to give Timbre some credit because they offer a nice atmosphere (to a point) to do so, and I have always found the staff super friendly and attentive, but it just misses the mark overall for me.
The food is pretty good. The menu reads very well, I found myself torn between a few different options, a problem I like to have. The guys I was with thoroughly enjoyed the Elk entree, the Salmon entree and I had the Hot Pot - a seafood green curry that was really tasty, but I am glad I asked for it "spicy" otherwise it would have been waaaay too tame for me.
I have also had the Oyster Po Boy before, and although it only had 2 oysters in it, it was a-ok. Their yam fries are pretty great. I haven't been to Timbre for brunch, but do want to check it out, I have heard their Crab Cake Benny special is really solid. Glasses of Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand at approximately $8.50 is pretty fair.
So, why the three stars? Slightly overpriced, nice staff and rustic log-cabin-ish decor but not somewhere I could visit on the reg without getting pretty over it.
I think the atmosphere is affected by the music mostly, it really BLOWS - sooooo much in that disgusting alt-country-rock genre like Hinder, Creed, 3 Doors Down and so on and so forth.
If Chad Kroeger from Nickleback was to have have sex in a cedar log cabin with a rabid wolf, the resulting offspring would be Timbre.
Actually, thats too harsh. They did play CCR once when I visited, which made me happy. I'll go back there for a drink again, maybe at 6 week intervals. I'll just take ear plugs. -

Tisk. Tisk.
I tell you, my friends I have never tried so hard to like a place but Timbre is at least consist in not being up to par.
Sure this is a great place to people watch and drink but the food? I tried drinking first but that didn't really help. I was with a friend of mine who was a bartender for ten years and she found the drinks watered down. I had a very watery mojito. The ice water was very refreshing.
My favourite, hands down, has to be the comment the waitress gave my friend after receiving a new batch of eggs. The first set was not cooked properly. This time round, the server tells my friend 'we serve our eggs really hot so you have to eat them right away because our eggs cook themselves.' So yes, eat them right away!
I couldn't stop laughing. I was in tears!!! THAT my friends, that comment has got to be one the funniest comments I have ever heard. I loved it.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Atmosphere definitely deserves a full four stars. Modern rustic: It looks like a log cabin, it smells like cedar, yum, with a lively and unpretentious atmosphere.
The food however left me dangling my mouse over the 2 star for quite some time...debating-debating-debating. Hence a 3 star combo. With a green salad priced at $10, yam fries at $8, plus mains and burgers etc, I immediately had a feeling my food would be overpriced for what I was about to indulge in. But I did anyway: apple pie!
When my pie arrived (all $9 of it) I had to frown. Droopy in the middle, cracked down the sides--I get that they are serving up individual pies, and yes they are double the size of what homemade would be--but mushy should not have been on the menu! The ice cream it came with softened the blow, and while there was not a morsel of flaky, buttery crust, heating it up was probably a good call on their part.
I think on my next log cabin trip I'll just stick to throwing back the wobbly pops :-) -

I am going to talk about their brunch.
specifically the Spinach Tomato Benny.
it rocks!!!
no soggy english muffin.
no soggy stringy gritty spinach.
no mushy tomato!!
jut pure goodness.
English muffin stays crisp under a bed of raw spinach and a couple slices of raw tomato. Topped with a perfectly cooked poached egg and lovely Hollendaise (sp?) sauce...What more could one ask for....
A side of bacon....

I can't seem to head anywhere on The Drive without a slightly skewed view. Timbre is known to many as a restaurant, but to me it's where I do a lot of my business meetings. I have a boss in the area and we head here for drinks and to chat frequently so I have no real concept of the food. Just for full disclosure's sake know I'm treating this like a little sit down pub.
As a little bar, Timbre is wonderful. Yes, seating is limited but what you trade it in for is an intimate atmosphere in a beautiful and cozy interior that is well managed and staffed and never seems to get too out of control. You can tell everyone loves working there and I've often had good chats with the bartenders and staff.
Their alcohol selection is very large, rivaling many places on the drive and they do have a pretty hearty helping of local microbrews around, which is always nice to see. The prices are higher than some places but never scrape into the 'too classy' range for what they offer.
As a final note, one thing I loved was the smell. They frequently burn wood just to give a smokey, campfire smell to the place which I find really homey and amazing. Great idea. But if you don't like smoke on your clothes, you might want to head elsewhere. -
Review from Lisa C.
Three and a half, actually but whatevs. I'm tired of my 4star glut.
OK so apparently it is Restaurant Week across god's green earth - heaven knows it surely is here in Vancouver, same as back home in SD. I've been to Timbre before and was totally impressed by the vibe: two walls are actually comprised of rolling garage doors that open to the streets; cool log cabin style decor... all the makings of a decent hang out. When I noticed that they had an $18 3-meal for restaurant week I was all about it.
We rolled in early-ish because we weren't sure what the crowd was going to be like. Timbre doesn't take reservations, so if you have a few folks that are willing to toast the sky and munch an appetizer send them on ahead. I ordered a glass of red ($10! We aren't in Kansas anymore!) and perused the menu.
Our selections from the Prix Fixe menu were ok - the soup was reported to be too salty and my salad had two (countem!) two cherry tomatoes total, but for $18 I guess I can't expect too much. I had the elk steak (tasty though desperately in need of salt), as did my companions. The steaks were cooked erratically - my medium was close to medium, the medium rare was kind of like it, the rare was rare and the other medium was somewhat *less* than rare - more like purple (though that's not technically listed on the doneness scale). The desserts were MASSIVE - tasty, for sure, but heck I could not have finished that slab of chocolate cake if my life depended on it.
So what it boils down to is that if someone suggested Timbre to me, I'd agree and be pleased, but I probably wouldn't go out of my way to hit it up on my own. -

Smells like the inside of a log cabin on a cold winter night but it's warm like a summer day.
The bartenders have always been super quick to fill up your drinks and make something special for you. The servers are not that quick however but the food and extensive whiskey collection makes up for that.
But largely, atmosphere is everything here. They regularly burn hickory (or something similar) to give the place the sweet smell of logs on the fire.
You won't find the regular fare of hipsterdom here that you would find any where else along the drive, this place is for the lumberjack inside you. -

probably one of the worst servers I've ever encountered in the business... and I've worked as one on and off for 7 years. The service alone is enough to ever keep me from going back there. If I wanted cranky stuck-up bitches in miniskirts I'd go to Earls. Rude. Tardy. Unattentive. Stupid as well. If you can't remember something please write it down for heaven sake! I ended up over-paying for a meal that wasnt even what I ordered. When I tried to send it back the waitress argued with me and refused to comp anything. She then insulted me when walking away from our table, under her breath.
The one star is for atmosphere, pretty much the only thing this place has going for it. -
Review from Tamara H.
Definitely a fun brunch place - though if you want to have a real personal talk with your brunch mates - be sure the band isn't playing because in that small space, you can barely hear if you're yelling at each other. I've been twice and both times gotten the crab cake eggs benny (so great!) so I can't really talk much about the food except to say that benny is wonderful. Their caesars look impressive (and my companions say taste pretty good). the last time I was there the wait staff were completely overwhelmed. Not sure what they were expecting for a sunday brunch but they let us stand for at least 10 minutes if not more when there was 2-3 empty tables they just hadn't been cleared yet. I would still go back - just maybe not at peak brunch time

Once home to an authentic Chinese Restaurant with amazing lunch specials, this large venue on the corner of 5th and Commercial has been converted into a ski lodge/bar, with decent doubles and a dramatic sense of coziness.
There are paintings of arctic animals in snowy wildernesses hung on the faux-log-cabin walls, and people tend to subconsciously keep their jackets on while inside. The service is good, and once my friends and I got the staff pull 5 tables together to make room for 12 people. Good drink specials, but well worth the upgrade to doubles for a dollar more.
During the winter months it's a nice place to go to pretend that the slush outside is actually snow, and during the summer months you can actually feel the heat cooling down as you stare at the paintings of icy mountains. -
Review from Megan S.
I walked by this place a few time when they had some live music going. It sounded pretty cool. It's been on my places to try list for a while. Now I can finally cross it off because we stepped in for an early dinner last week.
The atmosphere is really nice. The wood decor gives it a kinda cabin in the woods feel. There was no music playing at the time, probably too early, but that was fine too. The staff was friendly and funny.
From the menu I learned that they are open for brunch on the weekends. That might be interesting to try. For dinner, I ordered the chicken club, while my friend had a burger. Both sandwiches came out quickly and looked great. I ate mine rather quickly and enjoyed it. I didn't try dessert (on the menu referred to as "the after party"), but another table was enjoying some sort of blueberry treat.
I look forward to going here again. Another successful place on the drive. -
Review from Katie F.
Came here for brunch with some girlfriends yesterday since it's central... it wasn't very busy when we were there and the food is okay. Brunch fare includes omelettes, eggs benedict, french toast, etc... with sides of fruit and hash browns. Reasonable prices - about $15 with tip including your meal and coffee.
The first thing that you really notice is the smoky cedar smell when you walk in. It's a little different but it's not offensive or anything. The decor is unique with a lot of wood and painted doors hung on the walls.
I'd come back for a group GTG just because of the location, but Provence Marinaside still is my brunch go-to spot in Vancouver. -

This spot is good for a quick drink -- and this is all we were here for. I can't help but laugh at the wood cabin atmosphere. The clean, urban-lumberjack servers strike me as bizarre. Almost costumed.
The interior wood is beautiful and the bar is nicely set-up: a warm good spot to go on a cold, rainy evening. Prices are on the higher end. I'm not impressed with paying more than $6 for a "pint" that looks closer to 16oz. What would real lumberjacks say about such a thing?
Truth be told (and Yelp reviews always are...) I need to revisit here for a long stay. -

I had been meaning to go there for over a year, but I wasn't really impressed.
They did have good service, but the food was only meh.
I went for dine out once (which wasn't that good) and appetizers the next time and they were much better.
I just didn't feel like there was much atmosphere or culture to hold this place together. I'm actually kind of surprised it's still around. -

Timbre definitely has a local pub vibe to it. It's cozy, but not dark and dingy since there's plenty of natural light during the day. As others have mentioned here before, the woodsy cabin theme prevails (I presume all part of the timbre/timber wordplay). And in true pub fashion there are a couple of flatscreen TVs up high on the wall but thankfully no Keno.
They offer a decent choice of libations and some very tasty food. Timbre has the usual pub-like suspects on the menu, but they've taken them up a notch with items like blackened tuna bites and steak & goat cheese salad. Two of our favourites are the Sloppy Buffalo Joe and yam fries.
Sunday brunch is also good although the service suffers with the high volume of people coming through. They are fairly fast but lacking in the usual friendliness. There is a fantastic Bluegrass band that plays on Sunday, keeping the place hopping. -

I have really enjoyed Timbre the past two and half years, however- they very recently made some startling menu changes. No more nachos (??), no more poutine, the fries I ordered were dry, steak fry slab, seemingly frozen and tasteless. I don't recall seeing my fav potato bisque soup, either. The entire menu is one page now (including weekend brunch) and while I will stop by for a drink, I guess i will be looking for a new nacho/appy spot...Disappointed, but still like the atmosphere here, especially in summer, when they roll the doors up.

Sooooo, walking by this place on the drive everyday finally peaked my interest for brunch this weekend.. I wasn't that impressed. I gotta say it wasn't the worst eggs benny but it wasn't even close to the a-ok I thought it would be. Service was a little off and the music sucked. Food came fast and there was quite a lot of it so if you're super hungry and don't mind a mediocre breaky then check it out for yourself.

Sh-h-h! Our intention was to eat at Tandoori Corner, across the street but since we parked right out in front of Timbre, we took it as a sign to try out the place. Following this mindset turned out to be a good choice. The space looks like it was a fire hall in a previous incarnation, and the transformation looks to be well thought through. In summer the sliding (garage style) doors can all be opened up, at which time I am SURE they make most their income on drinks. It's a perfect people watching perch. (say THAT three times and fast !)
While it's still cool outside and the doors are closed, it's a great place to grab some good grub. We couldn't help but notice the diverse menu. Starters like Sirloin steak bites in a Chipotle barbecue sauce and crab cakes. A variety of salads and also, Bison meat "sloppy joes" and bugers, all the way up to Cedar Roasted Wild Coho Salmon with Peach Blueberry Salsa! The servers are efficient and patient with picky (and allergy-laden) customers like myself. We will definitely return to try other things on the menu. -

Timbre is a fun place to have brunch on a sunny weekend. The windows roll up so that you can get an open air experience. Timbre has really yummy bennys and a great cedar roasted salmon omelet. Their home fries are excellent. They also do lunch and dinner. They don't take reservations, but they have a full bar to help you pass the time as you wait for a table. Check their website for their live music line up.

Timbre is actually not a bad looking place. It is in an ideal location and the decor is nice and cozy. But that's about where it ends. First, let's start with the ear-blaring music. In this tiny space, the volume of the music was cranked up so high that I felt like I was at a concert. Keep in mind this was just an ordinary Monday night...I asked both of the waiters to turn the music down just a tad and both of them refused and said that there is a "policy" that their managers enforced about a certain level of music volume it has to be kept.. in the same sentence, he chimed in that 4 tables that very night had walked out because it was way too loud. Now, I may not have an MBA but this one really is a no-brainer. You generally want to attract customers, not turn them away...Even all the workers there kept shuting, "HUH?", "WHAT?" while taking simple drink and food orders.. what the hell? Just turn down the damn freaken music! Also they only have granville island beers on tap, no drink specials either. Food we ordered was really awful, how do you screw up a simple BLT that badly? Maybe the deafening music interfered with the cook's ability to make decent food in the back.. who knows.. Next time I want to go to a club, I'll keep this place in mind...
