I try to avoid going to No Frills for one reason alone, I worked at one in Scarborough for a little while just out of high school, and I cannot unsee what I have seen!

The first thing they had me do when they hired me was to shovel out dead mice from behind the reduce rack in the back room.

As time went by they asked me to do things like clean out all the shit from from under the elevating loading dock.  When I showed them the sign ON THE LOADING DOCK that said not to go under there, they just got somebody else willing to do it.

A friend of mine got reprimanded by the manager for NOT changing the expiry dates on the meat!  Ever read, "The Jungle"?

The floor of the back room was sticky with years of sludge that had built up from spills of rotton milk, expired chicken, broken eggs and decayed potatoes... but when a skid of berries turned over and spilt onto the floor, I had to help put them back in the containers that read, "Pre-Washed".

A friend of mine asked for a raise and they recommended he work the night shift because they pay an extra 25 cents an hour!  The manager also told him, "Raises are a Frill."

I went to The No Frills in the Junction and it's you're regular, run of the mill No Frills.  Sure the employees are not helpful or knowledgeable... but what do you expect?  They're teens who need some extra cash for beer on the weekend and as soon as they find anything that pays 10 cents more an hour, they're gone!

Expect nothing from a store named NO FRILLS!

Then again, it's tough not to go there at times.  The Junction is filled with overpriced "Organic" stores that charge you almost double just because there is a sticker on the fruit that tells you it's Organic.  Here's a tip; fruit and vegetables that claim to be organic are only organic based on their country's organic guidelines.  So a banana from Jamaica only needs to heed to Jamaica's "strict" organic guidelines, and an orange from Mexico only needs to heed to Mexico's "strict" organic guidelines.  It's all different no matter where you go, and it's all bullshit.

Anyway, try to avoid No Frills as much as you can and if you need some fruits and vegetables, go to Bloor West Village.

In the last 6 months they've stopped restocking a lot of everyday items to the point that shelves are frequently barren.

I rate the baked goods now as "avoid completely".  If you manage to find things like bread that didn't expire two days ago, don't kid yourself.  I'm sure they're altering the expiry tags on all of it now.  It isn't unusual to get bread home only to find its stale, or it goes moldy in the next day or two.

They seem overly concerned with tossing things in bins in the middle of the aisle to go on sale rather than stocking up on the necessities.  It's looking pretty grim.

The prices here are decent.  It seems they don't restock too frequently on some major items though.… Read more »

    Meh, not so impressed.

I came in here to get a few basic baking supplies and found that Tim & Sue's No Frills only had one of five items I came in to get.  And keep in mind I wasn't looking for anything crazy, I was looking for things like some flour and yeast cause my bestie was going to school me on the fine art of pretzel making.  Needless to say it was disappointing that their selection here was so lacking.

I found the overall organizational scheme of the store to be also lacking in basic organization.  You are surrounded by towering shelves and it looks as if there is no way around them until you seek out the tiny hidden aisles running behind them.  When you add to that mix tons of people trying to get by both ways with huge shopping carts, well let just say I was very glad I had opted for a basket and could dodge through the buggy traffic jams.

As a general rule of thumb, all my reviews of the lower cost  grocery chains will be a two star review. For those that don't know what I am referring to, Nofrills=loblaws, food basics=metro, price chopper/fresh=sobeys. This location and others all suffer from the same fundamental flaws.

1:Never have enough stock for sales
2:Rarely have enough staff to put stock on the shelves
    3:Line ups are insane
4:Selection is limited to what the customers in the area buy most
5:Produce is a lot older and not fresh
6:Produce is never displayed properly(fresh on top, older on the bottom and getting older by the day, sometimes spoiling at the bottom.)
7:They leave dairy/eggs out in the isles for a long time waiting for staff to put away
8:Frozen items have sometimes partially thawed before staff put them into freezers, seen this with the juices.

These issues happen at ALL lower cost grocery chains, sometimes the old adage is true. You get what you pay for. Although I like to think that the managers of these places should be doing a better job of taking care of their stores. The sales at some of these stores are insanely high but you would think they make nothing by the looks of the store and how short staffed they are. Then again it could be a ploy to tricks customers into shopping at their more expensive stores. Make the cheaper store experience as crappy as possible in order to convince people to shop at the more expensive sister stores.

This is pretty much the only real grocery store in the Junction. Ever since this place got renoed, its awesome.  Still a little small though. Surprisingly though they have stock that is sold out at other locations.

No fish counter. No Butcher.  Not really an issue for me.

Location seems a little less busy than others.

Staff smoke in front of the entrance.  They blow smoke into customers faces who are behind them.  In store staff yell at customers.  I honestly can't think of any reason to shop at this store.  I don't know what has happened to this store but it surely is not what it used to be.   There are so many other choices why shop where there is total disrespect for the customer.

This is my grocery store of choice - MY No Frills. I've been shopping here for nearly ten years now and watched my store renovate, expand, reorganize and improve several times over the years. *sniff* It's like we've grown up together!

In my opinion this store has the best, most intuitive layout of all the No Frills locations (and I think I've been to all of them - at least the Toronto ones). There's no way you can miss any of the aisles or specials as the layout is pretty standard and there are no mazes.

The produce is of decent quality - some things are just never right (oranges, mangoes and avocados, for starters) but others are always perfect (gala apples, anjou pears, bananas, peppers, sweet potatoes, lemons and more).

They stock my absolute favourite President's Choice brand (that's "PC") products - like chocolate fudge ice cream bars and mango sorbet, as well as Silk Light soy milk and PC herb tofu. CHEAP Wheat Thins and Oatmeal Crisp cereal. I wish they hadn't discontinued TGTBT Chocolate Gelato. It was the best ice cream I've EVER had. Rivaling Ben & Jerry's, Häagen-Dazs and whatever else.

Essentially No Frills has all of your favourites for a fraction of the cost. Pay $0.05 per plastic bag or buy a $0.99 reusable tote from the cashier. They're black and subtle and I use them for pretty much everything. Or take for free if you're driving and have access to a trunk.

    Long live Tim & Sue!

I moved into the "Tim'n Sue's" No-Frills area way back in 1993 and have been doing most of my shopping there, well I gained 25Lbs since I moved here so  the food must be good.. The store cleaned up nicely with the reno, I think prices went up a little but still very reasonable.
Some days the lines are long with just 2 or 3 cashiers
but I'll take the lower prices and will shop there another 17 years!

I like this store.  It is not as big as, for example, the Dufferin Mall No Frills, but it is well organized, well-stocked, and I almost always find what I need.  The checkers are friendly and seem to know the regular customers.

Even though it is a No Frills, they do have a large selection including even a decent variety of ethnic items.

One tip - I do notice a security person in the parking lot on weekends, so don't park there and go elsewhere - they might tow.  I don't think they care during the week when the lot is not busy.

I had lost my debit card and all I had on me at the time was my Visa. It was late at night, long day of work and I desperately needed to buy groceries for the family. I spent an hour shopping in the store, reading labels as I usually do, etc.. Stood in a ridiculous line up only to have the teller say they didn't accept my credit card. They do however, make exceptions. The teller called the floor manager, she said no, I asked to speak to her manager, she called him and he asked her how much my bill was, then he said no as well. It was late, I was tired, my family needed food. There was no signage anywhere saying that they do not accept Visa. I was forced to walk 3 blocks down the road to use my CC at a bank machine.
They had a sign at their exit doors mentioning who their neighbourhood competitors are, asking patrons to remain loyal to No Frills.
Well.... it goes both ways. I will never shop there again. Adios Tim and Sue!

i love no frills.  i love this no frills because it's around the corner from me and because the staff is overall friendly and helpful.  i was in there the week before christmas and it was a zoo.  this one lady helped me find so many things with a smile on her face.  i knew how annoying i was too and she just joked with me.  i wouldn't have blamed her if she was stressed or bothered with me, but she wasn't.  it's rare these days.  if the customers would chill out it would be perfect.  sometimes there are only 2 or 3 lanes open and it's almost always busy.  people can be so pushy and impatient there... when it comes to things you can't control, seriously, unless you're about to give birth just settle down.
