A lovely spot, nestled in the woods, clean, spacious suites with kitchens, good service, I only wish we could have stayed longer.
The only quirk was our jetted tub turned itself on and off, it was very loud, and had a sign requesting it not be run after certain hours. What is the point of a double size jetted tub that can't be used late at night! -

We treated ourselves to a spa retreat at Tigh-Na-Mara through a deal on Travelzoo, and would gladly return again in the future.
Our room was huge yet cozy, with a stunning view of the bay outside the hotel. The bay is so shallow that it almost completely disappears at low tide. We woke up every morning and ran down to the beach to walk along the endless sand. The kitchen was incredibly well-appointed, including everything you could possibly require to cook numerous gourmet meals.
There is a lot to do and explore around the resort. We made our way to Qualicum Bay to get some scallops that we cooked over a fire on the resort's beach.Tigh-Na-Mara has set up several outdoor cooking areas on the beach. That was an amazing meal. We also borrowed mountain bikes from the resort to explore nearby Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park.
The biggest treat of all was spending time in Tigh-Na-Mara's Grotto Spa, enjoying a massage, a dip in the mineral pool, and a multi course meal in the spa's Treetop Tapas & Grill, where everyone wears bathrobes while they eat. It was decadent, but truly relaxing. -

Disclaimer... i stayed here as part of a work meeting so not having to pay for anything myself makes it all that much more enticing, especially when work functions usually entail a budget hotel with very few interesting or even pleasant amenities.
So first off, the general level of service was pretty good. We were a large group and they were accommodating, especially when we realized all restos were booked because of the hockey. They set up a screen in one of the conference rooms with our own bar, bartender and a few staff to serve us appis. Not the best, but pretty good considering.
But the sweetest part for me was my room. A full 1 bedroom, amazing beach view, gas fireplace, full kitchen. Of course I didn't need much of this but it was really nice and the view was killer. Also, beach access is amazing and I was able to go on a great beach and trail run. Spectacular.
In the morning i grabbed a cappucino and cinnamon bun from the little coffee bar which was WAY over priced...it cost me almost 8$!!
Overall, it was a very sweet stay for me, but as I said, I am used to generic hotels for work so this was a really nice change. Whether i would pay for it myself? Likely not. I think there are better spots with fully equipped cabins, outdoor hot tubs etc with more privacy and beach access. -

My husband and I had a great experience here on our honeymoon. We stayed in one of the standalone cabins during a snowstorm just before Xmas. We enjoyed the big jacuzzi and the cabin's open design, and didn't even notice when the power went out because of our gas fireplace. Candlelight made it all the more romantic.
We visited the (nothing special) mineral pool then upstairs for a spectacular and truly memorable dinner. It was all you can eat tapas, they just kept bringing delicious and unique little plates for us to share until we begged them to stop. As they suggested, we ate in our bathrobes! We were almost the only ones there and were so happy that the kitchen and wait staff gave it their all despite the storm. In the morning we walked down to the beach and all around snow-covered Rathtrevor park.
It sounds like our experience was not the norm, but it will stay in my mind as one of the best hotel stays ever. -

Spent a week at this resort. Gotta say, I've had better experiences. Now, some of my issues may be my own unrealistic expectations, but this place bills itself as a world class resort.
My family and I arrived on a monday afternoon and were efficiently given our keys etc.
We made our way to our spa room (across the street from the main resort). About 3 mins walking distance from the beach.
The room itself was spacious, but very very out of date. For nearly 200.00 per night, I would have expected a few more modern amenities. TV's are CRT and quite small. Spider webs abound. Very dated interior.
We arrived on a very hot day, and guess what? No air conditioning. Ok, well, they probably have fans available. Nope. Called the front desk and nothing to be had. For a world class spa, I would expect that guests can be made comfortable.
Decided to try one of their pizzas for dinner (over 20.00). That was a mistake. If you've ever had one of those delisio frozen pizzas, then you've actually had a better one that arrived in the box. Additionally we wanted a few drinks with the pizza. Coffee cup sized drinks of pop are over 2.50 each. Yep. 2.50 EACH.
Now, if you're looking for scenery and out door activities, then this place can't be beat. It's beautiful and lovely and very conducive to outdoor fun. The rooms, not so much.
Would I go again? No. The value for the money just isn't there. I could do outdoor activities much cheaper... and I could find much better accommodations for the same price. It's 2010 and no AC or flat screen tvs? Really? -

Spent a Friday night at this remote resort. Arriving at the lodge it was very pleasant and exactly what I would expect for an island retreat. The woodsy nature of the place was perfect. We were directed to our room which was ocean side and included a jacuzzi. One would think that this is a room for two and the jacuzzi tub is located in the actual room so it should fit two people...not a chance! It was a jacuzzi tub you would find in a bathroom and a VERY NOISY one at that. It was so loud you didn't want it on. But the best is when someone upstairs or in the next room turned theirs on at 8:30am you thought it was in your own room.
That aside the ambiance is pretty nice. It was very clean, the staff was super friendly and accommodating. (Then again I have come to expect that from all Canadians.)
The price was right. I would definitely come back but would choose a different room or perhaps get a cabin.
No doubt in the summer it is extra beautiful. -

My boyfriend and I have stayed at Tigh Na Mara twice now. Each time we've had an amazing and relaxing mini vacation and the moment we arrived we wanted to stay longer.
For starters the price can't be beat. If you compare it to other up island resorts like Long Beach Lodge or Wickaninnish this place is a steal. We only paid $129+tax for an Ocean View Condo on our first trip. Plus when we checked in they informed us they were upgrading our room to a Deluxe Studio. The last time we went we stayed in a Spa Bungalow Suite. These rooms are basically a duplex style. We did have to request a different room due to being able to hear our neighbours and their kids and our request was met, no problem. The only downfall to these rooms is you don't have the water view, but they are right next to the spa which was convienient for us.
tip - If you book on their website you'll pay at least $20 less a night.
The front desk is very helpful and the girls seemed like they loved their jobs!
Our first room was on the top floor of the Texada building and it was massive. Probably about 700 sq. feet and 25 foot ceilings with beams and skylights. We loved the soaker tub beside our king bed. The view was to die for. I mean jaw dropping! It was amazing seeing the transformation between high tide and low tide when all of these amazing sandbars would form. The decor was actually much nicer than expected. I was worried after seeing plaid sofas on the website.
The Spa Bungalow Suites are also fantastic. These ones offer access to the soaker tub from the bathroom or the bedroom. Very romantic.
The walks on the beach in the evening and the day are beautiful and you'll get a completely different experience each time because of the tide change.
I'm always craving Tigh Na Mara and can't wait for my next amazing, relaxing experience. -

After planning a sister's weekend at Tigh-Na-Mara, I was pleased to be informed that they have an amazing special on right now that is perfect for a full-out girls' weekend. It is the 'Guilty Pleasures' package that includes 2 nights of accommodation, a free bottle of wine, $55 spa credit for each person, $45 towards the Treetop Tapas bar, and a free pass to the mineral pool. All for about $200/person!! We figured that they were basically paying US to stay there!
Five of us drove the short trip from Victoria and were AMAZED when we pulled in. The front staff was fabulous and had split everything up for us so we each had a card to charge our meals/spa experiences to and nothing would have to be awkwardly split up at the end. We were in a spa bungalow directly across the street from the Grotto spa and shared the entire building with two other rooms. We had a beautiful room with 2 large queen beds, a murphy bed, a full kitchen, a soaker tub in the bedroom, two tv's, and a picnic table with lawn chairs on our own private patio.
The entire resort takes up a massive amount of land and it appears that you can rent your own full cabin, stay in a spa bungalow, or stay in a more hotel-ish room. It's totally kid friendly with a large play area by the private cabins and has private spa access. The Treetop Tapas Bar provides delicious tapas and they are well known for their delicious Sunday brunches. I would definitely recommend checking out their specials and packages as they provide everything you need for a wonderful weekend!
