THEY HAVE ZATAAR SPICE, TUNISIAN DATE PASTE, AND BULGUR WHEAT!!! Way to steal a 50% Tunisian girl's heart, T-Bits!

My brother, my man, and I all visited Tibisti, mouths a-watering, after reading Yelp reviews what seems like forever ago, and agreeing that we had to check it out. The C-family kids have memories of visiting "the Mediterranean store" and all of its stinky cheeses, giant olive bins, and grains in bags with wiggly writing, and this place didn't disappoint. We're so much taller now, and everything seem more relative in size, but the availability and prices here were swoon-worthy. Pickled mango? Feta cheese in brine? Yahyahyah!!!

Sweetie and I shared the lamb chop plate, bro ordered the lamb shank (there was marrow inside!), and we all were so glad. The meats were well-spiced, seasoned, cooked to perfection, and accompanied by the moistest, lemoniest, lemon potatoes we've encountered in Vancouver, as well as rice and Greek salad.

Mohammed, the guy working the counter and the grill, was super-friendly, and asked to make sure we'd know how to use the zataar spice and bulgur, and the others working there also said hello, asked how the food was, and checked in to see that we were happy. Maybe next time I'll pick up some meat from their butcher shop; everything looked very fresh. A repeat visit is in order for sure, because my man is now addicted to zataar. We're putting it on everything!!!

Drop in and say hi! This place is awesome. Thumbs-up to Louise and Marc for their reviews, to point us in Tibisti's direction!

Make no mistake about it.  This place IS a hole in the wall, but the food served up is 5 stars and beyond!  Previous reviewers are NOT wrong.

When I got here today, there was a large gathering that took up 95% of the tables and chairs.  The place itself has minimal decor, and only the bare necessities - tables and chairs.  No salt and pepper shakers, no napkin holders, nothing. It was near closing time for them but the owner was more than accomodating and extremely friendly.

The rib eye steak needs no more describing.  It is effing delicious. Perfectly seasoned, tender, and perfectly grilled medium rare.

What hasn't been mentioned is the chicken souvlaki.  I swear, that was the juiciest chicken souvlaki I've ever tasted.  It was not over cooked. It was grilled on a skewer, then removed from the skewer and served.  Did I mention that there was a generous amount of chicken?  There was.  Again, perfectly seasoned.  Now I know the reason for no salt and pepper shakers.

Definitely coming back for some of the other dishes!!!!!

This is pretty much the best place for Greek salad because their cheese and olives and olive oil are the most amazing thing ever. But it doesn't stop there. The grilled meat had the perfect balance of spices --so tasty! On top of that, the service is spectacular and there's lots of great goodies in the market to choose from! Don't know what there is to be disappointed about. Yummeh!!

(I'll definitely be back again and again..)

Eating in a butcher / deli / grocery store - I love it!

Couldn't resist stopping by to have some of that lamb that Marc D's drooling about!

It didn't disappoint - super fresh, tender lamb for $11.99 with sides of lemony potatoes, Greek salad (one of the best olive oils, goat feta I've had in a salad), and rice.

Clearly a local's favourite - call ahead to request items that they make fresh, like the dolmades!

Fresh meat, cut by the butcher at the spot, grilled in Arabic-style steak. Portions are good, prices are pretty decent. A lot of sitting space. This is a place for carnivores. I really liked the potatoes that came on the side. Nothing fancy. They also sell regional specially foods.

Bumping them up to 5 stars.  Their service and products - EXCEPTIONAL

The last couple of times my honey went there I asked him to check and see if they have zataar spice, because of discussion in a recent Yelp thread about favourite spices and secret ingredients ( http://www.yelp.ca/top... ).  Normally my honey has a photographic memory but for some reason was drawing a blank - so we ended up with kafta spice (great with meats) and kabseh spice (good in rice).  Tonight we went together to have a meal, and get some groceries, so I asked about the zataar.  They have three types in various sizes and they wanted to know how I was going to use it.  My answer:  "I don't know".  Well they proceeded to tell me how to mix it with olive oil to eat with bread.  Then they proceeded to slather some on a pita with veggies and then grilled it up for my honey and I to try.  So considerate and helpful.  And it made a great appetizer.
    Yay!  Zataar!!!

We ordered the ribeye dinner.  They butcher the meat right in front of you, slicing a lovely cut right off the larger piece from the butcher case.  It was a beautiful looking steak.  Served with rice, potatoes, and a greek salad.  I absolutely adore their potatoes and everything was juicy, tasty, and amazing.  I will probably be dreaming about that meal tonight.

For dessert they served us a piece of baklava.  Best EVER.  My partner theorized that the key was in the honey used.  He said he had to find out what kind it was.  We complemented them on the excellence of the product he said it's his specialty - a secret.  I asked him what kind of honey he used and right away I could tell from his response that I'd hit on the secret to his magic.  I got  no reply from him other than 'he makes his own syrup".  So it remains a mystery.... but isn't that what magic is all about?  The air of mystery?

So the zataar infused sandwich, the meal, the dessert, the groceries (juices from Egypt, spice, pita and roasted nuts) and we left there with satisfied stomaches and happy minds  The owner insisted I give him my phone number so he can call me next time they make their roasted veggie salad - having discovered that we share a love of roasted eggplant.  So happy to have these guys in my neighbourhood.
