Be still my heart!
A proper full english! In Vancouver! In VANCOUVER! And it was delicious.
So delicious. My beardy English partner gave this place thumbs up, and he's a tough cookie to impress.
4 stars instead of 5 because of out-of-the way location & slightly pricey meny. -
Review from Joshua N.
My dinner tonight was without a doubt the tiniest portion of fish and chips I've ever had. Two scrawny, slender strips of breaded fish and about 6 soggy french fries, and a salad that consisted entirely of the kinds of greens that are normally used as a garnish rather than a salad.
For $14 (NOT incl tax or tip).
I realize the world's cod stocks are depleting. But at this price and portion size I can only assume the fish on my plate must have been from some much more gravely endangered species. Come to think of it, maybe Three Lions thinks that french fries are an endangered species too, and that's why they gave me so few of them.
We were there for an hour, and Neil Young's greatest hits album was playing the whole time. I like Neil Young, I'm as Canadian as the rest of us, but I own this album and I hear it all the time. Come on guys, I'm on a date here. Try to make it a little more interesting. I know it's just somebody's iPod anyway, why not put that badboy on shuffle.
And the kicker: when the waiter comes over with the bill he tells us the credit card and interac machine isn't working. And it wasn't like it JUST broke down, he said it completely unapologetically like it's been that way for awhile. Not very professional, in my opinion. I would have expected a warning about that when we walked in or when we were ordering at the latest.
The net result is that the real endangered species here is money in my wallet. For two scrawny meals and 3 drinks I spent $52 incl tax and tip. Far too much money for not such a great product.Listed in: Main Street

Skip it.
Recently I went with my husband and Father for Fathers day and what a disappointment.
The waitress was in a foul mood and everything we ordered or asked for was to some degree not correct.
My father specifically said "no onions" it came with Onions.
My husband asked for Black Pudding, and when his meal came the waitress told him they didn't have any so she gave him something else without asking him if it was okay.
And when we asked for H.P Sauce and Vinegar, she snagged it off a table where the couple was still eating so we continued to pass these back and forth throughout the meal.
Overall for what your getting it's over priced and lacks anything special. They also no longer carry Bulmer's either. -
Review from Mike P.
They've trimmed back their menu somewhat and unfortunately removed some of the items that made them unique.
Also were accepting cash only (with an ATM, complete with $2 service charge on site).
My wife ordered chicken which they were out of (substituted turkey, which was perfectly fine, but they ran out the previous day...so why not head to the store and buy some more?).
All of the above, seem so needless (maybe they've forgotten that their paying patrons want the convenience of paying with Visa, or want to order a dish that they couldn't make themselves at home). There was a small mistake on the bill as well (only 50 cents, so we didn't say anything, but we're paying for an experience where we don't have to worry about such things).
On the bright side, our waitress was perhaps the best waitress I've ever had, friendly, nice, great service and the beer is still great. This salvaged 3 stars, but is certainly no longer worthy of 4 in my books.1 Previous Review: Show all »

My favourite spot in town. I`m English so can appreciate an unpretentious watering hole. I`ve read a lot of reviews and they go on about the service being bad....all I say is that if you want the Cactus Club bubble head fakeys you go there and stay away from good authentic public houses. Three Lions...great owners, chilled out atmosphere, nice selection of beers with a daily special, comfy seating with homely country style furniture and delicious grub. The pie, genuine all English breakfast, poutine yum yum yum, salads to die for; solid hearty menu. Pub quiz on Tuesday nights, live tunes other nights...all round good fun. Another pint sir!

I love the Three Lions Cafe. Lots of good beer and cider and food options here, with many UK options. One downside is that recently they seem to have stopped taking credit cards or debit which is a bit of an inconvenience.

This used to be one of my favorite places but it's really gone downhill. Both of the good chefs have moved to a new place called The Hood. Small portions and cash only. Ouch.

Went here for a sunday brunch with the missus while the nippers were in the care of an obliging relly. Wimbledon was on the telly but the sneaky view of the mountains from the balcony was too much of a draw on this sunny morning. We both went for the full english - including the black pudding for me. It was top-notch, pukka fare. Everything you want from a fry-up without the greasy afterburn. The Lincolnshire bangers were right tasty and the Wiltshire bacon left me dreaming of Swindon all afternoon.
The only inauthentic part of this English breakfast experience was the pleasant service and the drinkable coffee. Three cheers for the three lions. -

OMG is all I can say. This review is really about the bangers and mash.
- I did not eat dinner the day I had this for lunch.
- We waddled back to the office like fat ducks after lunch!
- The Yorkshire Pudding was on a huge dinner plate and was the size of it!
- The sausages were two humongous, delicious tasting things that I only should have ate one of but I couldn't stop!
- There was mashed potatoes, carmelized onions, and loads of rich, dark gravy inside that Yorkshire Pudding too!
- We felt guilty for an entire week after eating this and did not go out for lunch again because of our guilt!!!
- We didn't share, we each had our own plate and I finished 3/4 of mine!
- It was absolutely amazing!!!!!!!!! :-)
- Do check it out for yourself when you need some serious comfort food!!!Listed in: West Broadway (Fairview/Mt.…

Organic rabbit! Yippee!
The restaurant review with a bunch of suggestions! =P
If you've read my reviews you'll know I'm a huge fan of great food for great prices.
Now I remember why I liked this place. Hubs and I were trying to figure out where to take date night and we decided on the three lions.
Word to the wise, it's not a 'cafe.' It's a pub with enough seating for about 35 people, lots of different beers on tap (tonight it was the Tetley on special), and really *really* great food.
Hubs ordered the Lions special burger which is a lamb burger with fries. Quite tasty but sad that it only came with the garden variety lettuce, tomato, and onion. Such a succulent flavourful patty deserves special toppings--if not at least fancier lettuce (may I suggest butter lettuce?) and some sort of fancy spread (a mint/garlic aioli might fit the bill--again, just a suggestion!).
My meal was the rabbit ragu. It was fantastic! It came atop a bed of pasta shaped like tiny bowls (sorry, forgot the name!), fresh wilted spinach, a plethora of different mushrooms, and a fab soupy sauce which was easy to slurp up with the pasta since they provide a huge soup spoon with the dish! (This was only 14$!)
I would give this restaurant 5 stars but I've deducted 1 star because:
-the unisex washroom was clean in appearance, but had a bit of a gamey stench :s
-in the summer time this restaurant becomes a sauna. it would be nice if the one side of the restaurant that was all windows was turned into one of those window garage doors that could open up in summer. Also, perhaps installing ceiling fans might alleviate some of the hot sweaty dead air feel? (sorry, that's *again* just a suggestion!) -
Review from Scott H.
So was just reading the reviews for 3 Lions that are all over the map. Complaints are generally about the food and service. Um, this is a pub (and it's actually trying to be somewhat like a UK public house, rather than the faux crap usually offered up as such), and a pub means good beer, weak food and inconsistent service. For the record have been here 3 times, had the deep fried sausage (average) and curry fries (average), the service ranged from good to average, but the beer was always good (Guiness, Black&Black and Blood Alley). So there you go, it's exactly as it should be.

Two experiences, two solid plates of food, two good waitresses. And mere blocks from my house! :)
Three Lions, despite its slightly odd space, is a great place for a tipple and a light meal
Last weekend I tried the Halibut Nicoise and practically licked the plate. Most people would have been turned off by the sheer saltiness of the dish (A LOT of capers) but I would gladly munch on a salt lick all day, so I was happy. The halibut was cooked perfectly, and the addition of a runny poached egg on the top of the salad, its yolk running all through the viniagrette, made me exclaim "yum!" out loud a few times.
This weekend I tried the brunch menu, and was almost as pleased. The sauteed mushrooms that I subbed into my benny (rather than ham) really reminded me of the UK, but I didn't love the crispy cracker-y scone that they use instead of English muffins. Hmm. Not my fave. But, the hollandaise and hashbrowns were yum.
My only other complaint is the price - that extra buck or two on every dish really adds up, and will prevent me from venturing here too often. It's a shame, really, because the food and drinks are great! -

Two british wankers from work LOVE this place and so I have had the pleasure of going a few times.
The yorkshire pudding was great and the beers are nice, theres even a cute punkish waitress that works there, very cute. I have nothing bad to say about the place. -

Go now! Just do it!
British pub with modern decor on Broadway. Great beer and wine selection, but the food is outstanding! Curried chicken pot pie in the summer is phenomenal. The winter served up a Beef Guinness pie. Bangers and mash served on the hugest Yorkshire pudding I've ever laid eyes on. I'll always be going back here. -

This is the best pub in this neighbourhood. It has some good draft beers and a great menu.
Their chips (fries) for their fish and chips are excellent. Of note is the bangers and mash and yorkshire pudding. The Yorkshire pudding is the size of a salad bowl and the potatoes and bangers are inside. Smothered in gravy it's something not to miss if you're a fan.
Desert was pretty forgettable and I didn't really like the lamb burger as it's a bit to gamey for me but your mileage may vary. -

Again, nice just for drinks. Food no.
I've been to Britain many times and I am convinced the only type of food worth eating there is Indian, made by Indians. Unfortunately, this resembles the many disappointing restaurants I've dined in Britain. There are too many great fusion restaurants for probably lower price.
I asked how the curry was cooked and was disappointed, but than again I should have known not to order curry in a British owned pub. Everyone thinks curry is made of curry paste and throw in the cocount. NO. It's the bachelor way of doing it and this place does exactly just that. The flavours taste just like cocunut and added with simple paste.
I've cooked all kinds of curry from Vietnamese to Indian and if you used ALL ingredients made from scratch, the diference is unbelievable. Back in my teen years, I made it the lazy way and didn't know any better until Mom taught me and my Mom's friend who is Indian showed me the right way to cook Indian curry. It's too bad, that many haven't tried the authentic curry to really know what 'curry' should taste like.
I also went there for brunch and I never returned since. So many brunch places to go in town, like Cafe Barney's or Milestones.
My motto is, why waste your $ and eat mediocre places when you can eat and enjoy the best-just requires a bit of research before dining that's all!
What's good for, is to catch a game and drinks. I do like the relax decor and the openess of the restaurant. -

It's quite clear that the owners of The Three Lions are big fans of English Football. If only the football team was as delightful as their fare.
I have been here on several times because of cravings for pub comfort food - English style! I love the classics:
Bangers And Mash
Pot Pie And Mash
Fish And Chips
Also brilliant is the choice of beer - I mean beer from Europe that is hard to find at other pubs. Tetley Ale? - I thought Tetley only made tea? lol.
What I also love is that the beer is served in custom beer glasses with the name of your beer on the side, and each beer has their own glass design. Just so you know what the cute girl/guy at the next table is drinking.
Thank you Three Lions.....ROAR!!! -

Came here last night with a couple of friends for dinner and quiz night. Upon arriving (early to secure a table), I was welcomed by a sign on the door stating that they only accept cash and that there is a bank across the street if necessary. Irritating but okay.
Ordered a Sir Perry's Pear Cider and it was delicious. Nice and crisp, not too sweet, and a subtle pear finish. They had a couple of beer on special for the evening and so my dining companions sampled those.
We placed our order for dinner and proceeded to wait. Eventually my meal was brought to the table, but it was a solid 10 minutes before the server went back to bring the other two meals out.
I ordered the steak and Guinness pie, with a side of yorkshire pudding. The pie is the size of a cupcake and was very dry. There is no sauce at all and a few small pieces of meat, a couple of carrots, and a few potato chunks. The mashed potatoes were creamy but without any sort of sauce, were a little blah.
The yorkshire pudding was served on a separate plate and I was very glad. By far the oiliest thing I have ever seen. I'm not sure how they make it but it was sitting in a pool of oil. I asked for gravy to use for my potatoes and this blob and by the time I was finished my entree, it arrived. I was told they make it fresh to order, and it's more of an au jus with a couple of caramelized onions.
The other meals at the table consisted of the cheese toasty and the club. The cheese toasty is very cheesy and comes with balsamic vinegar in it. The club was very tall due to the chicken breast but otherwise was enjoyed.
Quiz night kept us entertained and thanks to my friend's Full House trivia knowledge, also kept her stocked with a drink. The prizes are a little unusual as first place is $100 off your bill (handy only if you have a table of 4ppl or more) or a bottle of iced wine and 10% off your bill for 2 weeks. Third place received a Ziploc bag with 4 raw red potatoes in it.
When it came to our bill, I noticed that the yorkshire pudding was $4.50 and the gravy was $2. In total, for a pint and a half and my dinner, it was $32. Definitely not worth it and I was not very pleased. Then my change was given to me in quarters, which really just topped things off.
I would consider coming back for the pear cider but would not for the food or the service. -

Great little spot. Staff is super friendly (both servers and bartenders and even the kitchen staff!) Food is FANTASTIC. Great beer and spirit selection. My only complaints is the food usually takes a little time to come out of the kitchen, but it's definitely worth the wait.
I've had the pie and mash (chicken pot), fish and chips (both entree and starter), sweet & sour meat balls (starter) and one other thing that eludes me at the moment. ALL have been fantastic. My partner in crime had bangers and mash and the beef burger. With everything that crossed our lips, we really should have had a private room with the responses that were elicited from us. mmmm....... i wish i could go back there now as i'm hungry and forgot my breakfast. *sigh* -

Awesome little British pub. If you are a cider fan - get your ass here - they have tons! Blackthorn was my first foray into the ciders there. It comes in tall cans - 500ml like the Strongbow cans you can get in the stores. I found it a bit sweeter than I am used to with Strongbow - but it hit the spot after less-than-great beer at a staff function earlier in the day. Then on to Bulmers - this is the pear cider that is from the makers of Strongbow - I first tasted this at Hopscotch and am happy to see it popping up in town.
For dinner - I had the best bangers and mash I've had. Two huge bangers served on a plate-sized yorkshire! Good god my eyes bugged out when I saw it. Ate the whole damn thing it was so good. Reasonably priced also.
Staff were friendly - our waitress remembered me from a show at Pats Pub - so that was a bonus to the experience.
Not giving it 5 stars - because the patio - sucks. It's narrow and only has room for two-person tables. A shame because it's not on the Broadway side so it doesn't get all the noise.
*edited* added a picture of the Bangers and Mash! -

Excellent fish and chips - especially the fish, that comes with some tartar as well spicy curry dip. My husband had bangers and mash which was quite delicious. He thought there could be more sausage but I'm sure for someone less of carnivore this would be very satisfying. Great prices too!

I had breakfast here while my boyfriend ordered lunch. The food was surprisingly good for pub food.
The eggs, roasted potatoes, mushrooms and toast were cooked to perfection. I wasn't a big fan of the sausage nor ham but to each it's own. My boyfriend ordered the caesar salad and was thoroughly pleased. He said it was almost as good as Cru.
Great place to sit, watch the Olympics , eat , drink and be merry since they have a full bar with lots of great beer on tap. -

Very limited selection but what we did eat was very tasty.
In fact, their breakfast menu had only like 6 things on it.
Still their benny muffin was delicious (it did have unavoidable meat in it -baked in- but it was one of the best benny muffins I've had: very crisp and cornbready).
No benny toppings -just classic- which I thought was a distinct flaw.
They had two varieties of potatoes in their potato medley: sweet and standard.
Delicious coffee with lovely servers and lovely banter (cute redhead).
The coffee was tasty (no milk alternatives).
No hot sauce on the table.
The "other" dish we got had yummy beans and delicious steak-y tasting mushrooms.
As the euro-footy came on near the end of our meal and one of the kitchen staff started to wail I wondered if this restaurant's adherence to euro-style authenticity (simple food, simple meny, pub-y) was to be applauded or criticized.

I would have given a 3.5 but Yelp STILL doesn't allow half star ratings. So, I'll round up in this case as it's closer to 4 stars than 3 for me.
I went for dinner last night for the first time and had a very good experience.
The crowd was eclectic and lively and the staff were very friendly and attentive. I started with a pint of Tetley's which was only fitting given The Three Lions' fun, British pub feel.
The food was rich and delicious. I had the venison and mashed potatoes, with a glass (or two) of the ROOT 1 Cab Sauv, a decent pairing given the richness of the dish and the wine's easy finish.
We finished up the evening with a sweet and delicious bread pudding and a sip of dark rum. It was a great way to end the meal.
The room is simple and vibrant, decorated with fantastic vintage football photographs, including a great one of George Best in the men's loo. Alright, it's a bit odd that I went out of my way to mention that particular photo but the man is one of the greatest sports characters of all time.
I'd go back any time. I'd recommend it if you're looking for a casual night out of fun and good food. -

Limited menu and no kids menu
Long wait for food when place was about empty
Excellent food
Friendly staff
I had the eggs Benedict which came w/ a side of potatoes and salad, all were very good. My wife had the stuffed french toast (w/o the ham) and it was excellent. Instead of coming w/ syrup, it had some home made jam/jelly which she loved. Our son had a side order of eggs and bacon and really liked it.
All eggs were obviously from free range chickens and the waitress later confirmed this along w/ saying that the pork comes from a local supplier also.
Very friendly staff. The waitress had pride in the place, loved talking about it and where they get their food and what's organic.
I would give this a higher rating if: Their menu had more choices, including a children's menu and if the food didn't take so long to get. -

Came here with a buddy to catch the England vs. Slovenia game with a vuvuzela in tow. With a name like 'Three Lions', it was a busy gathering point for English football fans - even for the 7AM kickoff - and it quickly became standing room only.
It's sold as an English pub, but unlike the expectation of dark, dank and wood - it's very bright with the large windows and white walls. However, it had all the important aspects down - lots of (local and British) beer on tap and English pub food. I wasn't expecting anything special, but the $11.50 Traditional English Breakfast (two eggs, two slices of bacon, grilled tomatoes, grilled mushrooms, home fries, baked beans, toast and Lincolnshire sausage) was pretty spot-on with the exception of the overly-salty bacon. The grilled tomato and mushrooms were the surprising highlights - if they offered it on the menu, I would have gladly ordered a plateful of grilled veggies. Yes, this is coming from the meat monster.
However, there were a couple of downsides that keeps me from giving it a better rating:
(1) There are only three TVs inside the pub - so unless you're here early to grab a good seat, you'll be cranking your neck or looking at the tiny screen over the bar.
(2) The bar was at capacity and covered with a sea of red and white English jerseys - so you could expect service to be a bit slow. However, I only saw one unfortunate waitress trying take orders, serve food, refill coffee and bus the tables. Before the game, she had some help from fellas working here - but I assume their attention was (understandably) diverted during the game. She and the kitchen staff did her best - but most people waited a good half-hour for their food and coffee refills were even more infrequent. Some were too preoccupied with the match to care - some (like me) were visibly annoyed.
Normally scheduled service was resumed after the game (guess that they aren't many Algeria football fans in Vancouver) and the waitress was quick to suggest a 9AM celebration beer. Hooray for having nothing better to do on a Wednesday morning.
Overall, pretty laid-back bar that I will probably check out again - but probably won't be heading back for during any sporting events.Listed in: A Compendium of Fine…, East Van Life

While many pubs in the Lower Mainland claim they serve authentic English pub fare... I have never been "wowed".... until now. Three cheers for the THREE LIONS CAFE! ~ Hip Hip Hooray! ~
My first visit was for brunch on a weekend. It was the best "Traditional English Breakfast" I have ever had. For $11.50, your plate is consists of Lincolnshire sausage, Wiltshire bacon, baked beans, grilled tomatoes, sauteed mushrooms, 2 eggs, hash browns, and toast. You can also get an order of "black pudding" (blood sausage) for $2.00.
Other interesting brunch items are: "Stuffed French Toast" - stuffed with capacolli ham and fontina cheese, with fig chutney & balsamic drizzle ($12.00) - a sweet and savory delight... you'll love it if you like bread.
The other night, we had a go at the dinner menu. We had a large group with us, so I was able to sample lots of yummy food. As mentioned by other reviewers, the "Bangers and Mash" is impressive. It's probably not the healthiest dish, but a must try! The "Steak and Pie" is massive. I personally think that it can be shared between 2 people. The pie is baked in a large corningware dish - it is full of meat, carrots, and potatoes - also served with mash potatoes and veggies. Oh, who can forgo the fish and chips at an English pub??? It was good. The batter is not traditional in the sense that it is more tempura like and thus not as crispy. The chips on the other hand are 100% on par - delish! If you like English-style chips, try the "Curry and Chips" as an appetizer. Apparently another "must try' item is their burger - which is made with lamb. I didn't have a taste, but it looked amazing. Their one and only pasta dish is called "Winter Pasta".... vegetarian, sauteed with a melange of winter veggies. Excellent!
Hanger steak and chips was also an impressive plate.
All of the portions are generous. Dishes are around $14-$17. Priced well for what you get. Great selection of beers! Cocktails are ok. For $9.00 a cocktail, I would stick with beer or wine.
Every other Tuesday night, they run a special - 2 for 1 finger foods and $3.75 pints (Russell Lager)
Staff are down to earth and super friendly! For all British Footie fans, this could be your new favourite watering hole to enjoy the next game.
It's my new fave gastropub~Listed in: The Good Customer's Review

i live a skip hop and a jump away from this lil' british pub and when it opened up, the seats filled up almost immediately. my eye was on this one and i knew it wasnt going to be long before my butt got in there...
on a whim i dragged a girlfriend to try it out...i ordered their beet and grilled asparagus salad with goats cheese.... yum yum yum!! i never expected something so classy and elegant to be served in a place like this. the beets were sweet and juicy, the asparagus grilled with the hint of oil that shone through and the goats cheese was just a delightful addition. and of course, i washed that down with a couple pints of whatever beer was on special. they have great beer specials!
the atmosphere was the most chill and relaxed...you couldnt even tell who worked there until they came up to you to ask you what you wanted to drink. our server was one of the owners (its owned by 2 brothers and a friend from england)....cant recall his name, but i secretly dubbed him as ryan reynolds (he looks EXACTLY like him.. no joke, only with a british accent....and much more pastey white). he was very friendly and chatty, instant connection.
since then i have gone back with my boy and he's irish/scottish....so when he gave the place a thumbs up, you know its good. he was extremely stoked when he found out they play european soccer (football!!) on their flat screens all day long and has been bothering me to go back!
on sunny days, expect the patio to be packed with beer guzzlers and people watchers....otherwise, i dont think i have ever seen that place empty since it has been open.

After hearing great things about this pub, I decided to drop by here for a drink after dinner. I half expected the dark, old english pub feel of a place but it's actually clean, modern, bright and beautiful! The food looked so delicious but I was stuffed. So we had the 3 Lions beer and chatted with the bartender. Everyone was so friendly - it's got a very good vibe and local vancouver feel. I will be back to eat here for sure.

I popped into this British Cafe slash Pub, on the way home from VCC the other day. I had a deep fried curry battered onion(Bahji) with a tamarind plum chutney. It was extremely tasty, I washed it down with a pint of Three Lions lager. Their menu had some nice curry dish's, mixed in with all your British favorites. They have a pretty good selection of local and import beers and wines. They also have a small, but enjoyable patio also.....Cheers

you know a place is good when you're at home in seattle WISHING you lived in vancouver because you're craving a bulmer's and hanger steak and fries from the three lions.
this place is a cozy mix of a neighbourhood bar and your living room with the added bonus of awesome food. the staff are friendly and always ready to offer new drink suggestions.
our party had the beet salad, zucchini fries, the lamb curry and hanger steak and fries. both the beet salad and zucchini fries as appies are extremely generous portions and easily shareable. everything was outstanding, but the night's biggest surprise were their fries. typically, fries anywhere else are an after thought but the fries at the three lions are absolutely delicious.
our only regret? not saving enough room for dessert.
with vancouver being so overly saturated with pretentious restaurants serving subpar food, the three lions is definitely a breath of fresh air.
thank you three lions. i heart you. -

I've always loved this neighbourhood joint, but brunch today was a very disappointing experience. Took 15 minutes for server to take our order and then another 40 minutes before food actually arrived. Two tables arrived after us got their meals before we did. My water glass was empty the whole time. Food was ok, but definintely not worth the wait. Stuffed French Toast is a great idea and sounds so promising, but not well executed, with the balsamic reduction being too overpowering. Would not go back again.
