Yes. Everything about this hotel is great. Friendly staff (though the hostess in the lobby seemed a bit out of it at times). Gorgeous rooms with modern decor (dark wood grain cabinets, ample closet space, ceiling/rain showers, heated bathroom tiles), and quick elevators.

The view is so-so, but only because of the street the hotel is on. The rooftop bar/club is awesome. Lots of heat lamps in the winter, and a big pool with cool lighting. Really chic.

The bed was super comfortable, and I liked that you could turn off all the lights in the place from the master switch near the door. No need to go fumbling around for light switches for 5 minutes every time you want to leave. Thermostat was responsive and came on quickly.

No complaints. I wish Four Seasons would take a cue from Thompson.

Stayed here for a few days. Lovely service, amazing room, chic, modern and spacious. View is terrible but can't expect much it being located on Wellington between condos and side streets.

It doesn't feel like a hotel room at all, felt like I was living in a chic, cool toned one bedroom condo. The hotels main colours are black, white and red. The bed wasn't too high off the floor. Thermostat works quick but I couldn't find a good room temp, either too cold or warm. Nothing in between. Very stylish room with dark wood, ceiling to floor cabinets on one side of the wall. The lighting felt like it was a show room at Ikea haha hits all the good spots of the room. Lots of space around the bed and cabinets. Room service food was good. Nothing fancy or high class food. It comes from the 24hr diner called The Counter. Almost every night I ordered in, tasty crab cakes, onion rings and salads. Nasty veggie burger tho(stay away!)

One side note, every 3 days you stay in the room, they send up 3 chocolate moist brownies with mint topping to the room with a thank you note, so cute.

We also had a smoking room but one thing even as a smoker myself, they have balconys where you can open the door and let fresh air in and smokey old air out.

It's somewhat convenient location, cabs everywhere tho, 24 room service. Few nightclubs in the lobby's, one authentic Italian restaurant along with Japanese sushi bar(also reviewed it) and Thompsons most famous Rooftop Pool. Gorgeous view during the day and more at  night. Hipsters, well dressed drunks like to be seen here. This truly is a all in one hotel.

I went to the Thompson for a much needed urban retreat. The staff at the front desk were really friendly and check in literally took 3 minutes. Unfortunately, there were no rooms left facing Wellington, but he was extremely accommodating in  giving us a room on a quieter floor. The lobby was nice, however the chairs in the lobby look like they've been sat on too many times. Perhaps I'm just being picky now.

Note: You have to stick in your room key for the elevator to work.

Overall, I loved the room. Very modern, nice furniture, clean bathroom with mirrors everywhere and plenty of space for clothes. Nice wood finishing and pretty spacious. There is no separate door for the shower. Make sure not to turn on the tap too violently as water will splash out at you. The blow drier was small, cute yet powerful. We ordered room service from the Thompson diner and it was pretty quick. Only a $3 charge for bringing it up. I had a delicious chicken spinach salad with candied pecans.

The roof top is definitely a highlight of this hotel. Great view of the city and definitely worth checking out.

Complaints: They charged us double for room service. Perhaps this was an honest mistake, but for some reason it took forever to fix it. We had to get an extra pair of room keys to go to the roof top and this also took a while. Why are these girls so slow? They also don't have a coffee machine in the room. I only noticed because I need caffeine as soon as I wake up.

I went to the lobby bar the other night and had a fantastic time with my friends. A young lady by the name of Eglal introduced herself and made sure that we were well taken care of. The bartenders were really cool as well and made custom drinks that weren't on the menu. Service was quick - prices were reasonable. Can't wait to be back this weekend!

A friend of mine was in town and stayed here for a couple of nights.  At approximately $250/night, it's not exactly cheap -- but you definitely get what you pay for, as this might be one of Toronto's premier hotels.  The rooftop was definitely a highlight.  We easily wiled away the hours, sipping raspberry caipirinhas and rooftop lemonades, before we realized we had places to be and people to see.

The room itself is pretty modern looking and spacious.  The bathroom is excellent, features sliding doors that economize on space, and unlike Germaine, you have the option of blurring the shower window looking into the bedroom (pretty critical when you are using the shower, with an opposite sex friend in the bedroom area).

Am I staying at the same Thompson as everyone else who reviewed here?? Where to begin...

    The good:
-lobby is quite nice, lobby bar was sexy enough
    -staff has been very nice
-bed is super comfortable - comparable to a heavenly bed
-the 'rooftop bar' concierge woman (with the awesome hair and big earphones) was super cool.  She made our night.

    The bad:
-the room's windows are all frosted glass.  That means there is no view, in spite of being on the 'top' hotel floor.  It's the saddest and more pathetic design decision I've ever seen.  I even asked if we could move to another room, and they said all the rooms were like this - which I still can't believe.  $300/night and I feel I'm in a lightbox.
-the awning in the front spits water when it rains-poorly designed
-the sink splashes water - another poor design flaw
-no coffee maker, which is a big deal to me as a caffeine addict, but that's not such a big del.
-the staff at night in the lobby can be a bit aggressive to guests, thinking they are there for the parties.  One guys was a particular jerk, wanting to make us leave the hotel and then wait in line outside for a bite at the diner late after the rooftop bar closed.  We are guests here! We should't have to stand in the cold to get back in.
-the rooftop view is stunning, but the crowd not so much.  But the view is worth it.
-they don't reply to tweets.  So 2009.

Overall, will never stay here again.  I just can't get over the frosted windows.  I am staring at them right now and kind of want to kill myself.

Every thing and everyone is extravagant here.

Came here to the pool and rooftop bar. A friend of mine is staying here and I cannot compliment how beautiful everything is.

I will say this though....very intimidating.

The rooms at the Thompson:  Met up with some out of town friends in a room on the 5th floor, and was not impressed with the sort of "Romper Room" style decor.  A very forgettable room indeed.  Perhaps they have better rooms, so I shall comment only on what I know.

The Counter:  This 24hr spot on Bathurst Ave is part of the Thompson hotel.  If you have the late night munchies and don't mind spending $20 -30/person on breakfast, this is the spot for you.

Scarpetta:  This restaurant is also part of the Thompson hotel.  Chef Scott Conant who owns the chain of restaurants was not there, and neither was the flavor in his signature meatless home-made pasta dish.

The Rooftop: Went to a late night "Thompson Tuesdays" on the hotel's rooftop recently.  WOW, what a lovely view!  Sadly, although it was packed there was no eye candy, or good music (sounded muffled). The two confused female-model-promoters, who I will not mention here, have no idea what they are doing.  Massive fail as a summer party in Toronto.  This rooftop only holds 200 people.  Ladies, do not go here if you are beautiful, dressed nicely, have your heels on, and are looking to have a good time!  You will only see unattractive, sloppily dressed men, or other undesirables who are friends of the crew getting in ahead of you while you stand in line and wonder WTF?   Get an upscale room, invite several of your friends, and have a mid-day rooftop pool party instead.  Picture of the pool at night: http://ow.ly/i/eUpJ

SOOO... we got an upgrade from Standard to King Deluxe! Although I actually don't see the difference from the pictures..

For the price we paid ($200, tax and everything)... I thought this exceeded expectations! They had TWO people opening the door for us. And two other bouncers on our way to the elevators.

The bouncer on the rooftop was sooooo handsome. He had mohawk-like hair.

Oh, the guests! Tall and model-like. Women had 4inch stilettos. Men were in suits. Adults, 25+. I felt like I was half the height of everybody! (I am 5'1, was wearing flats that day)

The staff were so friendly, and so good looking. They talked to us with utmost attention and gave us respect. They wished us good nights and welcome backs, and lots of smiles. They offered to call us a taxi when we left.

    Umm... the bad part:
The desk lamp in our room was a fire hazard and so dangerous. There were sparks flying from the cord and the lamp. Fortunately, my boyfriend, some sort of engineer, understood and detected it quickly. I would've probably killed myself first...

We didn't get a discount for that though. but oh well :) because it was a good night. I didn't talk about our super awesome room because there are other reviews for that. Plus, they posted pictures!

This is a brand new hotel with a happening bar scene in the lobby area as well as up on the rooftop although my review has nothing to do with that as I did not partake in any partying.

My comments are in regards to my stay at Thompson Toronto. The rooms are very nice. Unfortunately, I got a pretty embarrassing first impression when a strange man put his key into my door and entrée vous-ed while I just so happened to be sitting on the toilet with my pants down around my ankles. I met eyes with him thru the reflection in the mirror as he was barging in. Apparently, they had checked both of us into the same room simultaneously. Can you say... AWKWARD!? Customer service took care of me though and gave me my upgraded room without extra cost to make up for that little mishap.

My only constructive criticism for Thompson Toronto is that ya'll need way better noise proofing! I don't roll out of bed until noon-ish when I'm on vacation and my biggest pet peeve is being able to hear the knocking followed by slamming of the doors when the maids are cleaning the other rooms on my floor in the morning. I always wind up staying on the 7-8 AM wake-up call floor and being that I'm a light sleeper and don't wake up that early unless I have to, I'm not a happy camper when I'm awoken at the crack of dawn every day. Why not just let roosters run loose in the hallway and set every alarm in the hotel to go off at 7:30 am every day? It has the same effect.

So... I wonder why it is that while building a brand new hotel from the ground up that they would choose to not make it better soundproofed. I really think they made a mistake with their decision and knowing what I know now, I probably wouldn't stay at this place again. I'd possibly consider coming back and up my rating from a 3.5 star to a 4.5 star hotel if they added something extra on the doors that make them slam proof and told their maids to keep it down in the early morning so that people who wanted to get their beauty sleep on could get their wish.

Stayed at the Thompson last night for a bachelorette party. The room was beautiful, very gorgeous decor throughout the hotel. We got to the hotel at 4:30 PM and had to wait fifteen minutes in the lobby because it wasn't ready for us, but we were given free drink vouchers for the wait, which was nice.

The bathroom was spacious and beautiful, very nice open-concept shower. We found the glass separating the shower and the rest of the bedroom kind of strange, as you could sometimes see the shape of the person in the shower. That wasn't a big deal though. (We also wish there had been a coffee machine inside the room, but Starbucks is only a two-minute walk away.) It was disappointing that you have to pay for wi-fi though, the cost is $15.00/24 hours, but I guess there's always cable television to entertain you.

The staff was very friendly, no complaints there. Also, I'm pretty sure you can't get a job as a bell boy or valet attendant unless you just happen to be a really gorgeous 20-something-year-old with hair that Fabio would be jealous of. (I'm just saying. (call me?)) Kidding.

The rooftop bar and lounge was absolutely gorgeous, the sight of the city was amazing! But the place was packed, and the crowd here is definitely not for me (as can.. probably be expected.) I'm reading a lot of reviews here about noise - I have to say, I didn't hear much noise in our room, but maybe we just got lucky. I wasn't woken up by anything either.

Overall, it was a fun night's stay and I'd probably do it again if I had the chance.

I stayed at the Thompson shortly after it opened, so I was shocked to be able to stay there for under $200/night.  The staff was over the top friendly from the time I was dropped at the front door as I was whisked to the check out counter and given the details for my stay.

My room was extremely modern, clean and had a view of downtown Toronto which made me very happy - since it was my first time staying here.  Since the rooftop bar seemed to be all the rage, I had one of my co-workers meet me there to see what the fuss was all about.  The view is GORGEOUS, it was a clear night and you can literally see all that Toronto has to offer.  Our server was very cheerful (but aren't all Canadians?) and kept making sure our drinks were full while we enjoyed the ambience.

There are a bunch of shops and the like within walking distance as well, so this is a great place to stay if you are heading to TOR.

I give the Thompson 3.5 stars, but rounded up for the rating because the rate we got at $179 was pretty great. If it is over $200, I might not be inclined to round up.

I stayed here for a business trip, which means I was up early for work most of the time.

    The Bad-

The noise level in this hotel still needs to be worked on. I could hear everything in the halls and this meant they could hear me too. I couldn't have a private phone conversation without the guy in the hall hearing me.

I also was a bit annoyed (to say the least) when on my first night there, three cars got into a honking match at 3am. There is a club in my hotel and it appeared that some drunks couldn't figure out life and had to honk their way out of it. If it was a Saturday, fine. But it was Monday and I had to be up at 6am.

Also, not a fan of the bar not opening until 5pm. We need a 3pm open time for those of us who need a stiff cocktail or beer earlier in the day!

I had the "Do Not Disturb" button pressed on my room and housekeeping not only came in, but accused me of taking two cranberry juices out of the mini bar, which I did not.

You have to pay $10/day for Wifi.

    The Good-

The rooms are very nice. Heated floors in the bathroom, which I love and the overall decor of the hotel is lovely.

It is a hot spot, so you are being seen and seeing others, including Samuel L. Jackson and celebrities of the like.

Nice location for corporate functions as well, as they can offer different areas of the hotel for meetings, etc.

    Great location!

Whoever came up with the idea of unique, sound design and the utmost attention to even the most minute detail when it comes to the overall hotel experience-- I want to shake your hand. While I wouldn't pigeonhole the Thompson Toronto in the boutique hotel category, it seems more a part of the ongoing trend of one-of-a-kind hotels; a burgeoning trend where hoteliers are constantly outdoing their hospitality predecessors. I, for one, am a fan of this trend and, after my awesome experience at the Thompson, am sure to return.

To give you an insight into the entrance of the hotel: it's squeal worthy. Everything is so well-coordinated, from the light fixtures to the tie bars on the doorman's tie. The overall feel was in every way impressive without feeling too deliberate or overdone. The reception area has a dark, sleek feel to it which served well as a precursor to the rest of the hotel.

When my bf and I arrived, there were a few check-in roadblocks during the process (credit card swipey machine problems) but in exchange for the very minor inconvenience, our room was upgraded for free. The front desk workers were all friendly, cooperative, down to earth and genuine, not snooty or stuck up. Hooray!

The hotel room, just like the reception and foyer areas, was ridiculous. Ridiculously awesome, that is. Hardwood flooring, corner to corner wall-sized windows (with sheer and blackout curtains), modern lamps and chairs and a large HD TV. There's also ample closet space, a mini fridge and an ironing board. Hint: there are four mini switches which connect to different light sources within the bedroom and bathroom-- have fun figuring out which switches connect to which light sources!

Don't even get me started on the bathroom. It's spacious and clean! The shower is of the rain bath persuasion, in case you were wondering. The bathroom is segmented into two parts: the can is furthest away from the door with a sliding door of its own and the sink and shower are in their own segment. Ahh, the one-person-in-the-bathroom-at-a-time dilemma is no more!

As if all that didn't make you want to leave your hotel room already, there's a rooftop infinity pool that overlooks Toronto. Only downside is that space is rather limited so make sure you get a stakeout early in order to catch some rays, or be banished to shady areas surround the pool. There's an upstairs bar as well. There was a fitness room on Level 3, but was close because, well, there just wasn't any equipment in there, the place was so new.

The downstairs bar is also noteworthy-- although since the entire hotel and bar have only been open for a little while, their beer selection is scanty (2 bottled beers to choose from) as is their liquor selection.

    Added plus: screening room downstairs!

i am not reviewing the hotel as a hotel; i am reviewing the hotel as a "destination", as most young torontonians know it has become.

the downstairs bar/scarpetta becomes a hot spot at night. since you've seen i have only given two stars, you can probably tell that i don't fancy it all that hot. a LOT of "look at me, look at my shoes! look at my purse!" going on. you get the sense that there are men there with "dates" who aren't their wives, but that their wives would probably also consider it a fun place for a "girls night". to perhaps put it more clearly, the crowd is an awkward mix of dated and young-and-dumb. service at the bar has been hit and miss; our last bartender (brunette, female) was lovely. only bought one round.

below the downstairs bar is a basement bar. on monday, this is the so-called "place to be". IMO, it is even more loathsome than the main level. picture: hip hop; guys spending thousands of dollars on bottle service and dancing on their tables/banquettes; young girls who could only be described as bottle  rats; ten minute wait for service at the bar because some d-bags won't move around their sticky, jager-covered bartop to let you in. this is a place where every week the same people go to show off to the same people; lots of air-kissing and photo-taking and shoulder rubbing. also, something just feels really tomb/crypt-like about the layout. it's a stuffy basement.

so why the two stars? well, i have never had a problem at the door. and um, the bartenders downstairs are quite efficient too (only male bartenders from what i have seen). also, well, my personal intense distaste for this type of scene does not mean the Thompson is a failure. rather, i feel it has been a great success at doing something that just doesn't do it for me.

I went up to the rooftop pool and bar last night for drinks, and WOW.  This is hands down, the BEST city view of Toronto to be had anywhere.  Better than Panorama, better than Canoe, better than 360.   Apparently, this is the place to see and be seen, but I just go there for the mojitos.  Stacks of fresh mint and lime wait to be muddled together by attractive, sharply dressed bartenders.  It feels very New York here...think of the Gansevoort rooftop, only smaller.  Luckily, the staff here is very friendly and welcoming so it doesn't feel like an intimidating place at all.
Its not cheap though: 1 grey goose and 1 mojito will set you back $27 bucks, before tip.  I think at this point you can only have access as a resident of the condo complex, or as a hotel guest.
    Its well worth the visit.

I was invited to the Thompson and didn't really know what that meant until I got there! It was just like being in NYC, beautiful hotel, beautiful bar and beautiful people! We had a drink at the bar on the main floor, the staff were very welcoming and very attentive.

We went up to the rooftop patio and were bothered a little by the security guard/bouncer at the entrance to the patio. You can only go if you are with someone who is staying at the hotel or a resident at the hotel, which makes sense, but they failed to mention you can only being 1 guest with you.

One guest ..... crazy... there were 5 of us in total , because it wasn't very busy , he let us in. We had peach mojjitos, they were really good, the bartender was beautiful and explained to us that he had invented the new drink on the menu the sunjito, it sounded good but we wanted to stick to what we knew.

Overall I could see myself really enjoying this place, the view is without a doubt the best view of the city ever , and the drinks and staff were both stellar.

Now all I need is to make some friends with the residents of the Thompson !! I want to go back asap and try there small plates!

Not for the business traveler...noisy, expensive, too cool. Choices for evening meal limited to diner type restaurant with virtually nothing healthy on the menu. You can't even order from the other restaurants in the hotel to take back to your room. Wireless @ $15 per day per device, no self-parking.  I will stay somewhere else next time.

Really, all I've experienced of this place is the rooftop bar, but it's well worth visiting, particularly at night.  The view of the city is amazing and the service is fast and responsive (we'd only just sat down when someone came out to fire up the heaters and take our orders).  I had a perfectly serviceable gin and tonic and because it wasn't too crowded the night we went, we were able to spread out a bit.  If it were a bit warmer or a bit later in the week, though, I imagine it'd be very busy--it deserves to be!

We just stayed here for 7 days for a business trip, so I think I have a lot of valid pros and cons to offer.
    First the PROS:
--The hotel staff and concierge are incredibly sweet and helpful. They suggested several delicious places to eat, and always called to try to get us in and get us a great table.  They were helpful with directions and in helping orient us to the city (It was our first time there.)
--As mentioned by others, the bathroom floors are heated which was nice.
--The beds and pillows were very comfortable.
--The view from the rooftop pool is out of this world beautiful.

    CONS:
--Again as mentioned in other reviews, this hotel is VERY loud! You can hear everything going on in the hallway.  There were several loud, drunk people in the hallway during our week stay.  It became highly annoying when we were woken up several times around 3am or so.
--The Restaurant, TheCounter, in the hotel (although convenient) is very mediocre.
--They don't provide towels in the gym (I thought this was odd, but they tell you to bring a towel from your room.)
--If you have a car it costs $35 a night to park (outrageous!) and the valet are VERY SLOW with getting your car when you request it (like plan on waiting at least 20 minutes).
--They charge $15 a day for internet (I have a problem when hotels charge steep amounts for this service. Since we were here for business, internet was definitely a necessity, and it just seems wrong for it to be such a steep daily charge.)
--The majority of the people who stay here are very intimidating looking (dressed to the 9's at 8am in the morning kind of people...very fit and tan, and noes up in the air.)

i was debating if i should give 4 or 3 stars...
during my friend's 5 night visit i stayed there a few nights..
beautiful rooms, we had two different rooms, first one didn't have a tub and we changed to one with the tub after so had experienced two..
    both were spacious and beautiful..
service was so-so, the staff didn't seem well trained, but they were all very young... would have liked to see more older staff, or at least concierge, front desk staff with better knowledge of local restaurants and recommendation for cool spots..  tho it is in great location as restaurants and bars goes...  room service was somewhat incapable of our orders.. i sad, coffee, not tea, where is my toast with the eggs?? such things..
valet was very quick, my car was delivered to me in less then three mins everytime..!!!!
would recommend to young ppl with extra cash to burn for their stay in TO, look hip, feel hip, and be close to the hottest restaurants and bars..
