I quite enjoy this place..I've only been twice but it has definitely sold me on some yummy french treats! My boyfriend and I were heading downtown to grab brunch .we really couldn't decide on a place and then remembered going to this place a little while ago and enjoying some of their pastries..We went in on a Sunday afternoon around 1 and ended up getting 2 croque monsieurs (he got ham i got turkey), an almond croissant and 2 macaroons to go..The gentleman helping us was very friendly as the place was starting to get quite busy. We were able to grab a table and they delivered our sandwiches and food to us..

mm..the croque monsieur was quite gooey and delicious..I would have liked it if the crust wasn't so hard but the in-between was yummy! The sandwich was about $7 each..a little pricey but well worth it if you want to try it as it has a nice bechemel sauce in between..onto the almond croissant...both my boyfriend and I agreed it was delicious and one of the best we ever had..it had the right amount of richness and sweetness without it being over-powering
I also got two macaroons to go..one was grand marnier and the other caramel with fleur de sel..i really enjoyed the caramel with sea salt..the grand marnier was okay but I probably wouldn't get it again..

All the pastries and desserts look absolutely delicious and I will definitely have to come again to try out different items..but definitely give this place a try as it will tickle your taste buds in a good way =)

Came back here for lunch with a friend.

It is SO French in here. A dialogue, if you will:
Friend: "Can I have the French Burger?"
    Cashier/Baker: "No. No more."
Friend: "Okay. Can I have the tartine gratinee?"
    Cashier/Baker: "No. No more."

    Errr...third time was a charm.

And if you're in a rush at lunch, this may not be your fastest bet.

    I ATE
Parisian sandwich. I will tell you this: their baguette is divine. DIVINE. It's very fresh. Made in house. And with the hard butter. Whoever marries me will know that this is truly the way to my heart. Forget the diamonds. All I want for Christmas is some fresh baguette and hard butter. Bonus points for an extra dill pickle. On this sandwich of ham and swiss, there was some dill pickle. I was happy.

The sandwich was small and though you could make it at home, it was a nice treat.

Speaking of treats, I had the salted caramel macaron.
And if you EVER need to suck up to a co-worker, this is how you do it.
They have mini ones that you can buy in the box. Not cheap but a great gift or a way to get everyone in your office to love you.

Best chocolate almond croissant in Toronto: filled with dark chocolate and almond paste.  So deliciously satisfying that I don't mind sharing...

Pistachio eclair, while pricey is utterly divine!  Other favourites include the salmon quiche (small-ish but sooo delicious!) and when available, the chouquette.

Some items are not to my liking/seem very average, but every friend I've taken here for coffee and pastries loves it (but I normally steer them towards the tried & true yummy items!)

Normally too distracted by the pastries to even consider the bread... but I recall Thobor's bread being notably good when it was served with lunch at Celestin.

Was impressed by the tastiness of the Paysanne omelette (seasoned mushroom slices were very yummy and fine dice of sauteed onions much appreciated), which was served with 3 slices of excellent baguette, making the value proposition a little more reasonable ($7.10+tax)

I love all things French, so when I discovered I was cat-sitting across the street from two French bakeries I was quite excited.  I've actually been wanting to try Thobors for a while now, but it's quite far from my usual area.  This was the perfect opportunity!

I went for breakfast my first day and walking in reminded me of the patisseries in France, although the prices were definitely a little higher.  I picked out a bacon quiche and a raisin pinwheel and it came to just under $8.

I took them to go and started to warm up the quiche.  I had intended the pinwheel to be a dessert of sorts, but I was too hungry to wait.  My first bite was also my last.  It tasted dry, stale, and it wasn't even sweet.  I was very disappointed.

The quiche was individual sized, and there were quite a few options in the shop that would have been perfect for lunch.  But I felt the bacon would be most appropriate for breakfast.  I was very happy that the quiche was miles better than the pastry.  In fact, I was half tempted to go get a second!  But I don't think it was quite good enough to make up for it.

All in all, a little pricey, and certain things are very tasty.  I hope that my pinwheel was an aberration, and I'd be curious to try them again for some of their sweets.

Thobors Boulangerie Patisserie Cafe is a place that I fell in love with right when I step inside its door...

All these French pastries, bread, cakes all display in front of me and oh that aroma of rich and buttery baked goods! Not only they smell good, they all so pleasing to my eyes too...

This Cafe has such a good positive vibe on this rainy and chilly Sunday noon. Looking at all the baked goods I really don't know what to get.. Now I know the dilemma of decision and let my friend just pick something! anything! As long as that includes some macaroons..

    Plain Croissants
    - quite buttery and flaky... a little doughy inside
    Chocolate Croissants
    - a solid stick of chocolate inside...not my fave... I like mine more spread out..
    Beignet
    - love the sprinkled sugar on top on the fried doughnut.. hey I would not have got it myself to eat without feeling guilty.. but since someone else got it.. I am always nice to help finishing it!
    Macaroons
    - love the mini size! good for gifting or having a taste of the basic flavour without going into a sugar coma!

Thobors Boulangerie though is a little pricier than other bakeries but I just love their vibes and energy... and it is OK to splurge once in awhile... Here I get a little taste of Paris without flying there.....Mmmmmm

I've passed by Thobors before along this Mount Pleasant strip but it was closed and all the white blinds cover up the mysteries that hide behind it until my trip back here 3 months after on a non-monday/tuesday...

This time around was a drizzly Sunday noon and walking inside to this little heavenly place that is far from the dreadful mid-day in December.  Just enough seating for the guest that dine-in while most take to-go we lined up towards the register and awaited for 1 of the 2 friendly staff to call who's next while the Man in the back through the glass window continue their Pastry sessions.

While lining up I am reminded of something not frequently display along the counters at other Patisserie Cafes, Pomme Dauphinoise which I'm sure a few of you know and probably have your own UNIQUE versions as most chefs do.  Classic or Modern, that will always be a debate.  I prefer Classic because I'm just classy like that.

Individual Cakes, Macarons, Tarts, Quiches, Pain au Chocolat, Croissant and what caught my eye most was BEIGNET which comes in Mini($0.80) or Original($3.00) size and with or without filling.  Mini is still a good size snack that is around 2-3 Timbits in size.  Pain au Chocolat had bit more Chocolate than few other spots but it was in a solid stick form.

    mmmmmm!!!!
Not cheap as others say, but definitely worth it to treat yourself to this place every once in awhile!! Delicious!!  I have a terrible sweet tooth and I love all their sweets (chocolate croissant  - love it). However their quiches are awesome as well.

Jules just down the street seems a bit more reasonably priced, but Thobors has a better selection of small pastries.  Check out both places if you are in the neighbourhood as they are less than 5 minutes apart!

The atmosphere for me is just ok and I prefer to take my order to go and eat it somewhere sunny.

The perfect Baguette, no compromises. After tasting Marc's baguettes I decided that my search for the best one was definitely over. Thobors aroma coming out of his entrance door just grabs you by the nose, and take you to France.

I had brunch several times at this shop, and fresh omelets are just delicious. I can say without doubt that deserves my 5 stars.

I went in for macarons only, but everything looked yummy.  Especially the Croque Monsieur, it was huge and cheesy but priced at $7.10!  The girl who served me was super-nice and helpful.  She greeted me with a "bonjour" and helped me thoroughly with my macaron purchase.  They sell pre-packaged sets of small macarons, or large individual macarons for $2.50 each plus tax.

The flavours I got were Pistachio, Earl Grey Tea, Raspberry, Salted Caramel and Coffee.  The weren't terribly fresh, but they weren't bad either.  Earl Grey Tea was the best, it even had ground up tea leaves in the macaron shells!  The Coffee and Salted Caramel were a little too sweet for me.  The Pistachio was artificial tasting, and the Raspberry was average.

Now that I've tried their macarons, I'd love to go back for some fig bread and that Croque Monsieur!

Thobors sells my favorite croissant - chocolate almond.  It is so rich and gooey I can't help but moan when I bite in to it.  They also sell sandwiches, personal-sized quiches, cakes, cookies, bread, a variety of pastries, coffee, espresso-drinks, and I'm sure tons of other things that escape me at the moment.  There are about 6-8 small tables, so you can usually get a seat, but not always on a weekend morning.

By the way, it's $7 and change for my standard order - a cappuccino and a chocolate almond croissant.  Worth it for an occasional treat, but not something you're going to do every day.

    CROISSANT REVIEW:
OK (not A-OK) quality.  Very similar to Jules but slightly better because its baked longer for a richer taste - solid enough structure (read it doesn't look like a used sock on the floor).  Not particularly crisp.  More bready than flaky.
If I compare with Jules on pure quality I'd just give the nod to Thobor's, though its worth mentioning that this croissant is $2.30 compared to Jules at $1.68.

I would move this place close to where I live if I could. This way I could easily run downstairs and get my baked fix anytime I want (which is several times a day). Fantastic pastry, friendly staff, laidback atmosphere - this is heaven for croissant junkies like me.
