What Craig said!
and also:
We've stayed here, ummm, four? five times? More? Rex would know. When describing this place to friends, one of the things I always say is that staying there is like staying with family that you actually like!
The conversation at the communal breakfast table has always been at the very least, memorable... the food-- unbelievable. The rooms-- cozy, comfortable, and beautifully appointed. And we've learned to always make time for afternoon tea when we're there.
Looking forward to our return next month for my birthday! -
Review from Craig H.
I don't know what to make of the fact that no one's written a review of the Thistledown yet. Come on Yelpers, let's get on the stick, eh?
There are lots of things that could be said about this North Vancouver B&B. The rooms are comfortable and tastefully decorated, with down pillows and comforters (no tacky floral polyester quilts or country kitsch here!). Rex and Ruth are warm, welcoming and interesting hosts who never make you feel like a commodity, and who don't hold the coffee hostage while they ramble on during breakfast. The breakfast itself has been stunningly prepared and presented every time. The guests are usually interesting, always varied, and prone to long leisurely breakfast conversations that cover a wide range of topics and turn a "breakfast" into more of a "brunch".
Probably the best thing I could say about it though is that it's the only B&B I've ever stayed in where I actually want to hang out in the livingroom after dinner, sitting in front of the fire w/ a glass of wine and a book, or maybe chatting w/ other guests. And, you know, if your dinner happens to be a light meal of bread, cheese, prosciutto, garlic stuffed olives, and sliced apple, Rex and Ruth might even set you up with plates and utensils on the coffee table w/o you even asking.
