The croissant are identical to the ones in Paris. Macarons are some of the best in Vancouver. Coffee is good, environment is very much European.
Note for starbuck's lover: don't go there the coffee is the real deal there and stronger
Note for anti-socials: don't go there it is crowded
Note for muffin lovers: just don't go there
I am there almost every other day and that reminds me of Paris -

All of the desserts I've had here have been spectacular, but do NOT waste your time trying to get a table. Even if I could get a table here, the thought of sitting in a packed, loud cafe to enjoy my pastry kind of kills my hunger for petite sweets. Luckily for ME, I live just 'round the corner. Unfortunately for YOU, I don't like company.
Patio looks dece though. And hey, you could always walk down Alberni and enjoy your pastry outside a certain jewellery boutique... -

It's so hard to find a nice cafe to sit outside and people watch, so having this place around is a slice of heaven. It's a bit of Europe in the heart of Vancouver. Order a wonderful cafe and a slice of chocolate croissant, or whatever pastry that tempts your eye....just sit and enjoy....
I think the city shuts down way too early at night and this is wonderful spot to have open till midnight. The alternative is Tim Hortons... -

I really loved the location, atmosphere and decor of this cafe. Had a ham croissant and a hazelnut slice. Both delish. Macaroons seemed a little pricey at $2 each and the coffee was a little bitter for my taste but for an overall experience I think this place is a winner. The choice of desserts and pastries is extensive so if you find it hard to make a decision this place will present a challenge! Whatever your tastes your sure to find something to please here.
Wi-fi is available. Will definitely go back! -

I love it when places stay consistent. After a year, their desserts are still just as good. Sure the price tag is sometimes a little high, but in my opinion, they are worth it!

This place is always there for me when a late night chocolate craving entraps me in its evil spell. Whatever time you decide to come the place is likely experiencing a rush and is sold out of 60% of its usual stock. Sure people lets be petty and take off 1.5 stars because its so disappointing that they only had 4 macaroon flavours available when you came... GIVE ME A BREAK. Whatever you decide to try tastes like magical elves baked it in a secret enchanted cave.
This place has so much going for it I don't even know where to begin. Location is pure gold - the outside deck is a great people watching spot. The staff are always extra helpful and serve up great lattes (might I mention skinny and sugar free options available) AND most importantly the baked goods are inspired.
They deserve a sixth star for being open till midnight and saving me from a trip to blenz where lattes taste like mushroom soup vomit.
Theirry has absolutely nailed it. You will not be disappointed. -

Thierry pastries are just okay, I'm not sure what the hype is all about. Anything from Thomas Haas is better than Thierry. The only great things are that it opens late and has ample seating around. It's a nice place to have tea/coffee with friends.
I was a huge fan of CinCin's tiramisu. The one at Thierry is alright, it's not as creamy as the one at CinCin's. The chocolate surrounding it is good though. We also had the lime mousse with was very very disappointing. The mousse itself is okay, but the cake surrounding it as dry as cardboard. It was so bad my friend took it back to the counter to let them know and they just took it back without offering us anything else. The pastries are too pricey (for Vancouver) for them to have bad texture. I thought perfecting sponge cake is one of the basics for a pastry chef. Anyway, not offering anything else in return is fine, but no apology is a bit odd.
I haven't tried their chocolates but based on the tiramisu, I'm sure their chocolates are good. Their products would make good gifts as they are nicely packaged. -

I don't know what is so captivating at Thierry that it's always busy. Is it because it's open till midnight? Is it full of shoppers looking for a place to sit for a bit? Is it because it's opposite Coast? My curiosity brought me there. And I wasn't impressed at all.
- Their macarons are WAYYYYY too sweet and tasted artificial.
- My home-made brownies are better: crunchy on the outside, and moist inside.
- The croissants lack of butter
- They are CRAZY, I paid almost $10 for hot chocolate. -

I wanted chocolate torte. I am over the whole "macaroon" thing and based on Marc D.'s review I was jonesing. Plus, mama was in town and I was tasked with desert for dinner at my sister's place. Perfect occasion.
I showed up around 4.30pm and I was pretty choked at the lack of selection. There was no chocolate torte and very little else that really stood out to me. But since I had to wait a good 10min before being acknowledged (there were 2 people ordering coffee and 3 people tending to them...maybe it was the backpack) I eventually made my choice of lemon tart (AMAZING!), chocolate succe (meh) and tiramisu (no).
As you can tell, lemon tart was amazing. Best by far in my book. The succe was really just there. It was fine. But the tiramisu was not worth the cash. The cream to cake ratio was WAY off and left me yearning for more soaked cakey goodness.
What kinda bothered me the most though was when I asked why there were so few treats to opt from (and only 3 macaroons...all of the fluorescent variety) I was told "that's just how it is". Hunh? So i asked if there was a time of day when there were more choices. "No. Not really. The chefs just put out what they have when they have it".
ooooooooh kay.
You know if i was in France, in a little town and that was the response...TOTALLY get it. That's just the way of life. But this is downtown Vancouver and it just didn't seem to make a lot of sense to me. I mean, give me a story! Tell me the chefs are provided such an awesome work/life balance that they actually only cook/bake when inspired...be it 6am or midnight. YA! COOL! I get it! But it was more like "we enjoy frustrating and annoying customers by only having 3 kinda lame selections cause... well...whatev."

I came here yesterday for something sweet and because the sunshine outside was calling for me to leave my apartment. The place makes me feel like I should be wearing a beret and romancing a gorgeous French man.
I had the tiramasu and white plum house soda. The amount of cream on the tiramisu was decadent and delicious. The white plum house soda was also good, but I think I'll try a different flavor next time.
I didn't try the macarons, but I will at a future visit. -

I am gonna be standing on the side of the road soon with a sign that says "Will __________ for macarons."
I am no expert, but I likes what I likes. To me, a bakery that is open past 5pm that has a liquor license is a wondeful place that people need to celebrate. I don't drink (a lot, ahahaa) but it's easier to convince my husband to buy me lots of little, bite sized treasures for $2 a pop if he can drink.
These macarons are wonderful. They may not be the best in town (please don't throw things at me) but I love them. I haven't done the legwork, but if I find something I love, I always get it (I order the same thing all the time at every place I am a regular at). I can't buy just one either, I need to buy the seven pack.
So far, I have fallen in love with the pistachio cranberry (which was for Christmas because it was dark green with red and white inside), vanilla and raspberry. I will gladly eat any other flavour, I am not picky as long as it has enough buttercream. I want a side of buttercream to dip them in, but again, I am with my husband who poo poos on my parade and probably doesn't want me to get so big that I have to wash myself with rag on a stick. I could do it... I could be like Homer and get that big, but I won't. They are crispy and chewy... the cream is wonderful.
On one occasion, because a seven pack is never enough, I was also able to get a slice of cake. I was with a girlfriend who loves dessert as much as I do. I reason that I can take the extra macarons home (yeah right). We get a slice of the Opera Cake. It's chocolate-y and coffee-y. We are trying to come back and get the Black Forest Cake.
They serve lots of different teas and coffee, oh and booze... did I mention the boozy coffees? It's usually packed inside, but if you're patient, a seat will usually open up. Or you can sit outside in the freezing cold under a heater like I do... -

I was craving macarons on the weekend and I was too far away from Thomas Haas. I searched Yelp and found Thiery. I can't help but compare this review with Thomas Haas.
The Almond Croissant is excellent as it is not too sweet, which I like. The macarons are bigger than TH, the lychee flavour is wonderful. It is my favourite one there. I still prefer the macaron at TH but this comes close second.
The location is more convienient for me. -

Another shop that's boring to industry fellow...
Over-priced compare to what I get...
Macaroons... pretty good but Truffles were let down I've had Way better than the one's offer in Thierry Sorry...
Nothing exciting just another Traditional patisserie shop to me...
Thierry does a great stuff don't get me wrong but I've had better experience than here that's all... little bit inconsistency on Truffles with the amount of what I pay for it's not worth it that's all
Nothing wow about pastries they offer I'm sure they use high quality ingredients but I know the price I know the quality and I know it's little pricier than it should be... sorry. -

Inside was always too noisy to sit & drink if I wanted to relax, so in the warmer months I would sit on the patio with some coffee & a macaroon (which were both excellent), they have a tempting variety of desserts & things to take home too. They have wifi.

Craving macaroons this weekend (probably after the fun Yelp party!) and would like to write a well-deserving 4 star review for Thierry.
Love the selection of flavors available for the macaroons! It's also a good place to meet up downtown for coffee :)
It's on my list for places to go for "second rounds/good dessert" after dinner, especially when you already have downtown parking and within walking distance from when you've had dinner.
I discovered Thierry via the manager of Cincin last year. I went to Cincin to order my favorite Tiramisu dessert as birthday cake and the manager told me their pastry chef is now running Thierry Chocolates.
Ordered the Tiramisu cake over the phone. Was very pleased with their courteous service over the phone. Their website also makes it easy to shop for desserts. Again was pleased with their decor and dessert selection when I visited to pick up the cake. Since then, I'm a fan of Thierry for coffee, dessert and macaroons!
I have yet to try out all their dessert selection so will definitely keep this place on my list of good places when you are in need of a "sweet getaway"!Listed in: YVR - Yummy Vancouver…

Review from Michael U.
With a late noodle lunch at Michigan Noodle and other bites in between we eschewed our dinner plans on New Year's Day and again ended up with French Pastries in an overly crowded locale, this time at Thierry in the trendy Downtown shopping area featuring the likes of Gucci, Ferragamo, and Louis Vuitton amongst others. With options limited due to the holiday but seating and parking limited even at 8:30pm when we arrived I can only say that what followed, in all ways, was nothing more than average and overpriced.
Billing itself as a "modern café elegantly designed to evoke the Parisian sentiments of Chef Thierry's native France" I have to say the décor at Thierry was quite nice from the exterior and on entering we were greeted by large globe lights suspended from the ceiling like tear-drops, wood tables, plethoric displays of chocolates and candies, and large display cases filled with nicely arranged items all around - all of it very much like Fauchon Paris but minus the charm and the quiet as espresso machines hummed and the jam packed café presented a veritable shouting match of couples trying to be heard.
Undeterred by the cacophony and with a single two-top that seemed to be clearing my aunt and I approached the counter while my mother and sister procured a table and with a request to "just order whatever you like and we'll share" we took to the task of making our selections - four pastries, four macarons, and three drinks that would be prepared, plated, and poured quite quickly and left to our own balancing act and navigational skills to return to our table through the 2-3 inch spaces between tables.
Beginning first with a trio of beverages my first taste of Thierry would be an awful one in the form of the single worst Americano I have ever tasted - a double shot that one could have added a half cup of sugar to and still found profoundly bitter, acidic, and unpalatable - a drink so bad that I actually returned it for a refund and opted for water instead. Fairing slightly better, my sister's $9 Bailey's and Coffee at least acted to temper the acidity with the smoothness of the Bailey's while my Aunt's $7 Liquid Drinking Chocolate would prove by far the best beverage of the three with subtle fruity notes coming through on the palate and light caramel tones detectable on the tongue of a glass so large it was easily shared by the four of us and would have likely been far too much for one.
Moving on to the pastries we started with a quartet of macarons in the interesting flavors of Pumpkin, Chestnut, Gingerbread, and Key Lime Macaron but unfortunately whether it was due to the late hour or to their method of preparation each was far too pasty and gummy to be truly memorable save for the Chestnut which tasted every bit its namesake with light notes of smoky sweetness and a creamy filling that tasted like chestnut pudding condensed.
Moving on to the larger composed desserts and knowing my mother's love of lemon I ordered her a slice of the Lemon Tarte and although generally not my favorite dessert this version would actually prove to be the best thing we had all night at Thierry with the light lemon curd providing plenty of sweet to balance the sour and a light milky mouthfeel that complimented the buttery shortbread crust.
Moving next to my selection, the Baba Savarin I was part surprised and part disappointed in this presentation for largely unrelated reasons. Beginning first with the pastry, a well crafted baba with a spongy interior soaked to the core with simple syrup juxtaposing light and mild cream, the dish got off to a great start but where it lacked was largely in my expectation - the expectation that a proper baba should include at least some note of liquor while this particular version seemingly had none, instead adding just a touch of nuance with hints of citrus and a touch of candied tangerine. Good, sure. $6 good, not even close.
For the final tastes of the evening - both chocolate and ordered by my sister and aunt respectively - the "Chocolate Trio - white, dark and milk chocolate mousse" and "Chocolate Succe - hazelnut meringue, chocolate mousse and 70% chocolate ganache" would both prove to be alright but somewhat expected - the first a sort of mousse layer cake with various cocoa tones throughout and a crisp chocolate tuille atop and the second something like an unfrozen Klondike bar replacing the ice cream with meringue and the same mousse as the trio. Respectable, but nothing to write home about when the bill came out at more than $60 to sit four people at a two top while listening to the girls next to us gossip about facebook. -

Sorry Thierry, I gotta take it down a notch...your chocolate croissants were dry and with almost no chocolate in it...your coffee is really not impressive, and macarons are too sweet for my taste...it's almost like munching on sugar...but I guess, macarons were never really my thing...

Tried this place for the first time a couple weeks ago. Having a sweet tooth, the moment I stepped into the shop, it was magical. The place was filled with aromas of chocolate and coffee - lovely combination, even if I don't drink coffee. All the sweets were laid out orderly behind a classy window.
I tried the chocolate trio, and chocolate succe. Both were very, very sweet, so some milk/coffee would be recommended. Nothing much to say about the trio, but the succe had this hard dark chocolate coating, that it was difficult to eat. Was almost tempted to use my hands =/ The decor was pretty though; a small sheet of silver somethings placed in the middle.
It's a nice place to visit once in a while. I probably won't go unless it's a special occasion, because of my post-student-now-bumming situation :DV -

We got to this place and it was SO full! We can't even move around freely. It's a really small place but there's also outdoor seating where no one really wants to stay at because it's freezing cold. But my boyfriend and I went and sat outside anyway haha.
So we got 7 pieces of macarons for $13.45 incl. tax. It was our first time having macarons so we tried all the ones they had. I was disappointed that they only had 5 flavors available this day :(. Nevertheless, I really liked the red one and the pink one. Nice and soft just the way I expected them to be.
As for customer service, they were attentive but were a bit slow to attend to all the customers' needs. They were not snobby and they got the job done properly. In my experience, its not a very welcoming place maybe because it was super busy.. but I still think that the customers in business suits were treated better than us (or maybe it's just me? hehe).
I hope they have those light pink, light blue, light green, chocolate, and vanilla macarons next time because those were the ones I really wanted to try. Overall, it was good :). -

Needed somewhere to hang post-dinner, so I hit up Thierry. Yes, I say it properly hoity toity en francais. Hon hon hon.
Decided to take advantage of this Hot Chocolate Festival shindig that is going on. Special flavour of the day - Ginger; made with 55% dark chocolate. Over $10 after tax for a 4oz hot choco!! Holy shmoly, it better do my dishes, make my bed, vacuum the house AND make world peace happen at that price tag! ... I digress...
Hot choco was good. Smooth and rich. Though not sure if it's miles above competitors - I had better at Leonidas, but may be due to a higher % dark chocolate used there. Regardless, I can't justify the price tag.Listed in: Confessions of a Chocoholic

Beignets de Carnaval || 4 stars ||
- only available until Feb 21st!
- $6.95 for 5 beignets w/ raspberry jam or chocolate sauce
- fried to order = 10 mins wait
- surprisingly substantial. Looks are deceiving!
- beignets: fluffy interior, tender crisp exterior & snowed in by powdered sugar (ie. avoid wearing velvet!)
- raspberry jam: sweet, thick & homemade
Macaron || 2 stars ||
- tasted the strawberry rhubarb on opening day
- chewy texture was so disappointing, I still haven't mustered the desire to try the other flavours

I've been to Thierry's time and time again, ever since I read a review in the local paper this past summer. I've been bringing out-of-town guests to sample their sweets ever since.
When you walk in, it's the ambiance that draws you in. Then, as you scan the cafe over to your right, you realize all the options: the pastries, cakes, croissants, macarons, and sandwiches. http://www.yelp.com/bi...
Every time I come here, I order macarons, and haven't been disappointed. When I came in August, I tried their blueberry macarons, with pieces of delectable blueberries infused in cream. Later in November, they had pumpkin and cranberry with the wonderfully tart fruit blending beautifully with the filling. Neither overpowering, just perfectly subtle. For pics of their macaron display: http://www.yelp.com/bi..., http://www.yelp.com/bi..., http://www.yelp.com/bi...
I highly recommend this place.
Previously, I had given them a 4-star rating because of the exorbitant prices of their teeny tiny sandwiches. But I realized, never mind...that's not why I go there, and I know now just not to order them. In fact, Thierry's saved my butt a few times when I had promised to bring macarons to a function, and was going to try out a new bakery but they were clean out of them. I called up Thierry and they still had some at 4pm!
The deal is that they make batches of macarons through the day. If you get there right after the lunch crowd, they're likely to be completely out, or if you get there too early, say at 10am, those delectable delicacies are still being baked. Either way, when they're out, they'll make more later. If you know you need an order ahead of time, just call them up and ask, and that'll save you some disappointment.
Anyhow, if you are in the neighborhood, definitely stop by and treat yourself to some macarons. A set of 7 to eat yourself, or share with some friends, is the perfect way to end a side-trip to the downtown area. -
Review from Megan S.
Gorgeous décor, friendly staff and some of the most visually perfect confections my eyes have ever seen.
I was impressed.
I ordered two pre-packaged bundles of Valentine's Day macarons (vanilla - white, lychee - pink and almond - red), then added a croissant at the last minute for good measure. Saving the macarons for dessert later on, I dove into my croissant as soon as I got back to the office...and was a little disappointed. For nearly $3, I suppose I was expecting one of those transcendent croissant experiences that I had daily in France, but happen so rarely here in Vancouver. It was a good croissant, but it wasn't great - a bit on the dry side, and though I'm certainly no pastry chef, I do believe it may have been left in the oven for just a titch too long...
The macarons were nice. That's it, just nice. Very good texture and they weren't overly sweet, but I found the flavours a bit lacking. The almond one was the standout by far, which I wasn't expecting. The vanilla was good, but didn't seem vanilla-y enough...kind of reminded me of the vanilla ice cream I used to eat as a kid that begged to be doused in chocolate sauce or strawberry syrup because it couldn't stand as a flavour on its own. And the lychee, well...meh. Neither of us liked it a whole hell of a lot, but down the hatch it went.
Not bad, but not the greatness I was hoping for! -

a must visit for anyone with a raging sweet tooth!
be forewarned that the prices for some things can be relatively high though but worth it once in a while.
their chocolate desserts were divine.. one comes as a 'cadeau' so basically looks like a chocolate present wrapped in chocolate.. u gotta see it to believe it! their triple chocolate mousse cake was pretty awesome as well.
got a vanilla macaron as well and it was the best i've ever tasted so far.. would definitely come back for those.
i also had a latte which was really good.
great dessert place surrounded by some good restaurants (Kobe, Coast and Italian Kitchen are all nearby on the same street) -

Dessert-lovers rejoice. If you're around the Burrard area and it's pooooouring rain and you just can't bring yourself to walk those extra blocks to go to Mink, you can always end up at Thierry. Because macarons! So many macarons! While I didn't think their hot chocolate was as good as Mink's, they certainly have the macaron factor going on here, and such unique seasonal flavours!
I came here for the hot cocoa festival and tried the gianduja dark chocolate in a half-size. For those who don't know (like me), gianduja is apparently chestnut. It certainly didn't look like a dark chocolate, but it was definitely rich. I also picked up 7 macarons for $13 in assorted flavours. It's so hard to decide which ones to choose, since they all look mouth-wateringly delicious. My favourite of the bunch was probably the lime, but I'm fairly certain it's not a flavour that everyone would like.
The place is cozy and perfect for a post-dinner get-together with your girls or a nice place to end a date. Would love to stop by in the summer and enjoy that patio! -

A good friend of mind (@petitefoodie) took me here. I had passed by many times when I shopped at @m0851_Vancouver, yet I hadn't had the chance to pop in.
Finally getting the chance to try this place, I was very satisfied with the exotic fruit tart I got to try. Not only was it visually appealing, but it was also pleasant to the palate. I appreciate how it was not too sweet, and the fruit was just ripe enough.
My foodie pal says that the macarons are very good. That will be on the agenda for my next visit. -

Another great weekend in Vancouver BC included checking out Thierry. My friends and I went for our late night sweet snack. We ordered couple glasses of wine, tea, couple chocolates, small desserts (black forest, opera, lemon tart and passion fruit). My favorites were coconut chocolates (think mounds bar but better), lemon tart and passion fruit. The passion fruit was amazing!!! A let down was the black forest, it looked really good but lacked in flavor and the cake was rather dry. For the price, it didn't really meet my expectations. This place isn't cheap, but mostly you get what you pay for. I also think there flavors of chocolates could have been larger, there was a lot with nuts in them which was a disappointment as I'm allergic.
Great place though, and I love that a pastry place is open late!!! -

Whenever I visit a restaurant, cafe, or any other eatery, food quality is important, ambience, but also the consistency in service. Thierry deserves five stars for this and then some.
I recently put in a large macaron order for a party, and Ted was extremely accommodating and helpful. My numbers kept on growing, but he had no problem adding in a couple more orders for me last minute. These were to be packages of three, tied up with the Thierry ribbon.
However, this does not compare to how they helped me with my birthday cake situation. My original vendor bailed on me the day before, pretty much leaving me in the lurch. Most bakeries require 48-hours notice for large cakes, and the same goes with Thierry. I called up Ted and asked if there was any way he could help, even though I expected a polite 'no'. Instead, he and Thierry said yes right away. No hesitation. I ordered the chocolate trio cake. The cafe is always busy, but they found the time to help one customer out.
I went from being stressed to very appreciative and relieved. First-class service. I will definitely be returning for years to come. Thanks very much again!1 Previous Review: Show all »

The macarons at Thierry are AWESOME! You can tell they are made with care and are very close to the ones I've had in Paris.
I've tried their cakes and they are well balanced. Not overly sweet yet very moist.
The one disappointment I had was the maple pecans. When I opened them up, they were stale. Not quite what I was expecting since everything else I've had here is awesome. -

First off, the only thing I liked from this shop was the chocolate succe, but since its in downtown, and its located in a place where parking is literally impossible, I would not make a special trip there. I also ordered the Opera, Lime Mousse, Chocolate Trio, a hot chocolate, and some macaroons. First off, the Opera cake tasted very oily, like the oil just lingered in my mouth upon swallowing. The taste of the Lime Mousse was kinda off, and the Chocolate Trio was just "meh". The hot chocolate for about $4 was very watery, and powdery. The macarons were a disgustingly vibrant colour ( look at the photos), very synthetic, I wonder if the FDA would approve..hmm. The macaroons were overly sweet, and they were crunchy (?). I cannot recommend. I will venture over to Faubourg in Kerrisdale instead to get my fix.

K, I made it here just after lunch and there was a bit of a lineup to get to the food. There were plenty of staff around to get the line moving at a reasonable pace.
Things that I noticed:
- Interior looks very upscale with tables inside and on the patio,
- Coffee pricing appears reasonable. Don't know about taste, though, I didn't order any,
- Hot chocolate pricing was highway robbery, but I don't know what it tastes like,
- Macarons. This is what I bought. This is what I came for. Vanilla and passion fruit were the flavours of the day, so this is what I ended up with. I asked whether they make any other flavours during the day and whether they would be available, but sadly they are different on any given day. Crap!
They were tasty, but, But, BUT I have tried homemade macarons from a trained chef and they were lighter and not as sweet. Also, I have tried Paul Croteau macarons in their brief habitat at Oakridge Centre Mall. Same conclusion. Lighter, not as sweet and a little crunchier on the outside.
3.5 stars. The macarons from Theirry were good, but I think my palate prefers ones that are not as sweet. -

fresh made macarons WOW absolutely melt in your mouth amazing!!! I can't say enough good things about them. I have tried all the flavours and love them all! The coffee is also really good and priced surprisingly low. I haven't had a chance to try the rest of their goodies but I'm looking forward to them.
The shop itself is really cute and sitting outside on the patio makes me forget i'm in vancouver and I feel like I have travelled to some small cafe in europe.
My only complaint is the fresh pressed juice, when I think fresh juice I think of made daily but when we ordered it it wasn't very fresh and they did admit to it being made the morning before. This could have been a one off though and I would try it again. -

For downtown Vancouver, this place is definitely a delight. A nice place to sit, whether inside, or even outside on their small patio, a cool place located on Alberni street to pass the time snacking on stylish sweets. This is a dessert finders delight, and if you are craving liquor, do not worry, they have this too, with all their 'special' coffees, and other alcohol infused drinks, tack on a few more minutes of sitting around, enjoying that sweet, and letting the alcohol soak into your blood stream.
As cool enough a 'hangout' this is, I think it is also being spoiled with so many of these shops that I put this in the middle of the pack. The display, of how they arrange everything is boutique like, where you feel you are in a Holt Renfrew of dessert houses, where the only thing that is missing is a doorman who is pulling the door open, and a person at the gates taking a coat check. Everything is very pretty to look at, and you expect the same once you put it in your mouth. I would definitely recommend the place to anyone, especially if your looking to impress a certain somebody on a first, or any date night.
If I am in the area, and need a sweet fix, I may tempt thee, and if not, then c'est la vie. You will be wowed by the spectacle, but over time, and discovery you may not be wowed no more. -

Finally had a chance to check out the coffee here, and briefly experience the high end of life.
Parking is nonexistent, unless you count the side streets after 1800. Not for free anyways.
There's a nice patio in front, but it's not heated or covered too well. Therefore it's useless on cold, rainy, or windy days.
The inside looks pretty upscale, with large displays of diabetes-causing goodness. There are those fancy colourful bun-looking things (what are those things called?), and also a nice large coffee section. The inside is brightly lit, and there are many smaller tables. You probably don't want to be larger than a group of 3-4.
I tried the mochaccino. It was a bit pricier at $5 for 11oz, but they did a nice little leaf pattern on top. One thing worthy of mentioning here is that they use (real) dark chocolate, meaning the beverage is much less sweet and much more bitter, just the way I like it. Most other places do the opposite of this. Probably one of the best coffees I've ever had in a long time. -

You know that place, the one that you know will satisfy any craving on your list? Savoury, sweet, decadent or caffeine related...well Thierry is my go to.
It is always sure to impress, offering great quality (don't plan on counting calories here!), delicious recipes and friendly service. My favourites include: Cannele Bordelais - not too sweet, great texture, pairs amazingly well with an espresso, Chocolate Madeleine is heavenly, the Chocolate Succe is extremely rich but hits the mark if you are a chocolate lover and for something more savoury the Croissant Au Jambon (Ham & Cheese) - sharpness of the cheese with the extremely flaky pastry and roast ham....wow.
Wasn't a huge fan of their Pink Praline Brioche or their natural Brioche, I've had better in Vancouver. Boneta (Gastown) has the most to die for Brioche loaf if that's something you look for.
All in all though, you really can't beat Thierry. It's a definite gem on Alberni Street. Their consistent, offer excellent service and atmosphere, and the cafe is just a great place to hang out. I'll be back many more time for sure. -

Average.
The experience of walking into the space is awkward. Looks like a nice place - do we sit, or order at the counter? Turns out we order at the counter. The Blenz-esque LCD screen on our side of the cash register destroys the classy feel.
When standing in front of the cash trying to read the menu on the wall behind the register, don't forget to look up for a second menu, and to the wall at the far end of the room behind you for yet a third.
The macarons are fine, but unnaturally coloured - they don't compare to Kitchening with Carly's macarons. We didn't even finish ours.
The pain au chocolat was dry and a little hard (stale?) Ganache Patisserie is still the reigning champ in Vancouver by far.
The drinks were disappointing. Got the spiced hot chocolate, which tasted like regular hot chocolate sans spice. The buttered rum was decent.
I wouldn't go back. -

I went to try the chestnut and apple cinnamon macarons and they were pretty good (they don't have the blackberries and raspberries as they are seasonal but was looking forward to those ones too since I read some reviews that those are a MUST try). Had the hazelnut hot chocolate - it was alright, nothing spectacular. Had the tiramisu and the lemon tart and both were alright. The lemon cake was too foamy and the tiramisu didn't have the strong cocoa/coffee/chocolate flavor. It was actually quite bland. You know, "tiramisu" means "pick me up" in Italian and it definitely did not pick me up that night.
However, I might go back to try to the blackberries and raspberries when they're in season.
