Review from Noel D.
In the past I've always been on the fence about dressing up for Halloween. I usually leave it to the last minute and then hit up places like Malabar, only to be greeted by an insane line-up with all the other procrastinators. When it comes to specific costume needs you can't really beat a professional shop because Value Village is slim pickings.
I assumed all the costume shops were too far away from me so I was very excited to find out that Theatrix has moved to the Dupont and Dufferin area, which is right around the corner from my house! I decided to cross the tracks and hit them up and was very happy to see there was zero line-up. In fact it must be a bit of a secret at the moment because there was only about 6-7 people there with only days left before Halloween.
I was able to find everything I needed for my costume. They have high-end versions of everything, such as wigs... So you can spend a good 50-60 dollars on something quality or you can drop 10 bucks on cheaper versions you might find at Shoppers Drug Mart. This is mainly a costume rental place and they don't mess around: they have some seriously heavy-duty costumes and mascot uniforms if you're looking to drop some dough in order to look spectacular.
The service wasn't the greatest. They were polite but not very efficient. They seemed kind of confused for the most part. Plus there is a workshop and storage area inconveniently placed around the shop -- so you basically don't know what areas are off limits. It's also difficult to tell you actually works there because there's about three counters. I feel like they really need to lay out their store more simplisticly and do a better job of sealing off their staff-only sections.
But overall you can't beat their selection. After hitting up shops like Wal-Mart and vintage stores it's just good to be somewhere that specifically deals with costumes and accessories. Surely it's impossible that you won't find the necessary ingredients for your Halloween outfit here.
