From the single production that I have seen from Theatre Calgary, I can safely say,
    "Yay! I'm a fan."

Jessica and I took in "Much Ado About Nothing" and there was much (praise) a-due about everything!
... I'm sorry. That was awful.

Anyway, the acting was very good, the set was lush and the staging was excellent.

Looking forward to taking in a few future productions here and there!

The Max Bell Theatre seems to need a bit of a facelift, however.
The green "faux-marble" is simply gaudy ... and not in a good way.

Every year I am able to make it to one or two performances at Theatre Calgary.  I am just back from seeing A Christmas Carol, which I have also seen in previous years.  As usual, the production value is high: the sets are well-designed, the lighting and sound are good, and the costumes are also great.  Knowing that Theatre Calgary has invested so hugely in this production it's tough to fault them- however my personal opinion is that I would like to see some changes from year to year.  I've seen numerous other performances with Theatre Calgary as well; many have been very good while a small number have been... satisfactory.  In general, I feel Theatre Calgary's best productions have been those that are highly energetic and humorous; I can't say I would be inclined to purchase another ticket to one of their serious dramas.

Productions aside, I've always found the staff to be friendly, the seats to be comfortable (and I've never had a bad view!), and ticket prices to be reasonable.

It's a great little theatre, putting on fantastic plays with top-notch actors....

We went to see A Christmas Carol last weekend and were surprised with the stage production values. It really is first-rate and was an excellent show. The actors were terrific and the whole show just hummed with perfection. These guys have been doing this play so long Dickens himself used to direct it, but it was fresh and the only sign that they had been doing it so long was the general sense that they understand the material and know how to tell a wonderful tale.

We got decent seats (Middle, back mezzanine seating, with a clear view) for $25 at Safeway. Not sure if they do that deal for other plays during the season, but we'll be back in any case. It was great and I look forward to the rest of the season here.
