The Zabludowicz Collection

Came here last week to see the Haroon Mirza installation and as usual the gallery did not disappoint .

The gallery promotes young artists and always puts on a fantastic show .

love the fact its a converted church ,kind of feels like you were sent back in time to look at the future !

There is something very special about this space, you just have to go yourself to discover what I mean. As a small gallery it is somewhat overlooked, but the fact that it is less crowded means you really can enjoy the work without distraction.

It is home to the the Zabludowicz Collection, which focuses on contemporary art from the late 20th and 21st centuries; and the emphasis here is on exhibitions that work with the chapel space itself. Currently you can go to see Ken Wilder's 'Framing Spectatorship' - sculptural installations that reference Renaissance paintings establishing concrete ties to their location.

Although entry to the gallery is free, the £5 annual membership is donated towards the interaction programme and provides discounts for the bookshop and invitation to private events. There's a wonderful cafe serving sandwiches (£2.15 - £3.50) and hot drinks up to £2.

This gallery is great. The building itself is large and interesting, still has some original features such as fireplaces, and it's great to see a large establishment championing emerging contemporary art. Staff are usually friendly and helpful, so it feels more like a smaller gallery.
Every exhibition utilises different amounts and areas of the space, so each visit feels like I'm visiting for the first time. I'd really recommend this gallery if you'd like to see contemporary work by artists you probably haven't heard of before. Plus, it's free!

I've happened to wander into a couple of excellent exhibitions here. This privately owned chapel (it isn't used as a chapel now) is beautiful and the owner really cares about what they exhibit. The space itself is cool and separated into many different rooms and levels.

If you are a budding artist or keen to see quality, inspiring work, 176 Art Gallery is worth checking out.

Brilliant and beautiful space just a short walk from the Chalk Farm Tube Station.


Luckily they fill the space with awesome art too!


I was there for the opening of A Tradition I Do Not Mean (http://londonist.com/2009/07/preview_a_tradition_i_do_not_mean_t.php) to Break and - in addition to being absolutely blown away by the actual exhibition - I couldn't get over the space itself. There's a little cafe as well as a book and record shop.

I absolutely adore 176 and would fervently urge you all to visit. It is a gallery that describes itself as a 'site for artistic and curatorial experimentation'. Located in Grade II listed 19th Century Methodist chapel the zabludowicz Collection acquired in 2005, the architecture is simply stunning and will blow you away. Seriously. You need to be a member; the privilege costs you just £5 a year and enables you to go for free to any of their talks, events or private views and entitles you to a discount in their bookshop and gives you the option to rent out the library for some personal study. Phew! The place is run by the Zabludowicz Collection (http://www.zabludowiczcollection.com/), some of the richest and most prevalent contemporary art collectors, they have three site specific shows each year curated by different people, one by an artist represented the collection, one by a resident so every exhibition has a very different feel.
