I strive to support local business and this one is tries hard to deserve that support.

Never perfect but always tasty-they remember that I like my Pizza cold.

I usually end up eating two slices since they are so tasty and cheap.

Careful about eating the ones with Olives though since cooking something that's pickled increases the saltiness exponentially (!)

Another thing I like is that while the music is modern it's not the empty sort of crap a person hears on the radio-these guys have taste and not just for food.

that's for the actual quality of the pizza, it's nothing special and for the price that you pay for.  Think I'm a bit biased when I look at the young workers there, not sure if they're true pizza connossieurs or care.  Or maybe I'm just spoiled by the neopolitans out there, plus think even the franchise owners ie. Panago do care about their quality and repeat biz.

But for funkiness, it looks like a cool place to hang out, it's not your typical hole in the wall, there's music there.

Parking's always challenging along broadway, so try for the side streets.

1-2 stars for the pizza, sadly.

If you've read any of my other reviews, you will know how much I love pizza! And while I am always suspicious of Groupons, etc., I thought that I'd give the Za house a chance. I was also suspicious after reading the reviews--or lack thereof--but I thought, what have I got to lose?

We ordered on football Sunday. It was completely empty, which was a bit strange. Our Wonton gave us a fab deal: 2 pizzas and 4 drinks. I even received an extra bottled drink with my Yelp check-in. The price was basically a steal; the proprietor was a great guy, too. This is where they could have earned an extra two stars.

Unfortunately, that's also where the greatness ended. We had 4 different types of the "specials" and each one tasted exactly the same: salt flavoured. In fact, that was all  that we could taste. I had just purchased some organic frozen pizzas--from Target of all places--the week before, and sadly, Za's were not as good (and I paid just $4 a pop for those). I was in shock at this sad revelation, but that explained why the place was so quiet. And I don't often buy pizzas from Target!

I felt so bad about writing this review, that I was going to go back and give the guy an extra $10, but I had to be honest here. I hope that if he does read this, he just might take a look at any of my other 3, 4, or 5 star reviews of pizza places and see what they do differently. I am also skeptical about some of the other reviews on here, and some have since been filtered, except that I suppose it's a matter of taste, after all. Businesses should know, however, that when their friends are writing the reviews, this doesn't do them any favours in the long run.

The pizza business is booming, but it's a tough go. With Panago and 99 pizza up the street, I doubt that these guys will be around for long, unless they work on their dough. The sign is really difficult to see at night, too, so we actually drove by it at least twice, even with the address!

I wish them the best of luck, and hope that perhaps they can work out the kinks.

Yikes! I'm astonished that this place has drawn such good reviews. It was a total disappointment for us, both in terms of the crust and the toppings.

The crust is kind of hard without being a thin-crust style (for that, Nat's is still king). We've been trying a bunch of different pizza places while our favourite (Napoletana!) recovers from a fire, and I'm sad to say that Za House has far and away the worst crust of maybe 8 different places we've tried this year.

Yes, they have interesting ingredients and combinations of ingredients, but it was far from delicious, and in one case (the WestEnder) came out much too salty. So, no marks for flavors/toppings either.

And the ultra-plain pizza we ordered for the kids was rejected by all 3 of of them as inedible: no wonder, since there wasn't anything to disguise the underlying blandness and poor texture of the crust.  We ordered an emergency pizza from Panago from the kids, and I hate to admit it, but the kids' Panago pizza was better than the "grownup" pizza from Za House.

So sorry to rate a homegrown business as much less tasty than a corporate behemoth, but I'm afraid these folks need to get the basics in place (i.e. a decent crust  & sauce) if they want people to come back.

    I loved this pizza.

    My boyfriend didn't love it.

I think it was a difference on what we were expecting.

The 3 cheese blend makes the pizza pretty rich. It isn't your standard panago/fatihs/little Caesars/fresh slice pizza but more of a rich delicious Italian style pizza. The crust is perfectly crisp and chewy and I actually even ate the crust (which I usually hate).

I loved the prosciutto and arugula combination! But again, if you're looking for classic late night greasy bland pizza, not your place.

Something a bit more rich or classic, yes this is your place! Plus all the staff are super fun and sweet.

Price - totally decent. You're getting top-notch ingredients, and for two pizzas with extra toppings we spent like $24.00, and had a whole pizza leftover, with both of us full.

    seriously, delicious.

Love this place! Definitely the best pizza I've had in Vancouver, and I'm kind of a snob since I'm used to SF+Berkeley pizza (cheeseboard, delfina, zachary's, etc.) The crust is perfect!

The guys who work here are super friendly, too. Support a local business and screw the other subpar pizza joints on the same block!!!

Best in Vancouver!! I went last week with my girlfriend and it has changed where we get pizza now.

They use fresh ingredients, an array of chesse, classy topings, and it's THE SAME PRICE as uncle fatih's, freshslice, etc etc etc.

If you are getting a quick slice in kits, this is the place to go.
If you are getting delivery, this is the place to call...one Size, one good price.

I went here with some friends (and 3 kids) when we were visiting Vancouver recently and in the neighbourhood. We thought it was very good - we had a cheese pizza for the kids and an 'off the menu' pizza for the grownups, with capicola, a little pineapple, a balsamic reduction, and some other goodies I can't recall at the moment. I do recall that we were all impressed by the pizza. It all vanished, adult and kid pizza alike.

Now, I haven't scoured Vancouver for the best pizza, but I have been studying the art of good pizza on my own for a while - I've been making it at home using a Neapolitan style crust (on a pizza stone) with cold-aged dough, and I've sampled good pizza in New York and anywhere else I get the chance, and I felt that these guys were on the right track. Perhaps the other reviews here that are more critical found them on an off day? I liked the crust, and I liked the toppings just fine. Perhaps they're inconsistent?

We chatted with the owners and it certainly sounds like they're aiming high - they make as much in-house as they can, they age their dough, they were talking about making their own Buffalo mozzarella. This is the sort of pizza business we need more of. And I truly thought the crust was good - it was crispy, just thin enough and chewy enough for me, and their toppings were a good mix - I'd feared the house pizza would have too many flavours but it was delicious and had a great balance of spice, umami and sweetness.

I'd go again, and recommend it to friends. My wife did note that it could have used a good floor sweeping - it's perhaps telling that it seems to be all-male behind the counter. But as thin-crust pizza goes, it was one of the better ones I've had in Vancouver. I would rank it above Prima Strada in Victoria, which I've been to several times now, and like, though I find their crusts too thin and with a tendency towards sogginess... but that's another review.

Really awesome place and amazing pizza. Finally someone knows how to make a good crust.
I've been looking for a good pizza place for a long time, and the fact that these guys sell beer and wine is perfect!
I happily walk past two other pizza places to go here.
