The Yoga Loft is a great space on many levels. Not only does it offer an eye-pleasing view of exposed brink and natural wood flooring, but there is a truly welcoming sense of community here.

New comers can familiarize themselves with ease, while expert yogis can continue to challenge their practice with intensified classes. The Yoga Loft offers many seasoned instructors who each bring unique attributes to classes. I've found it keeps things fresh to have so many great personalities leading the various classes. Pick, choose, switch it up, or find a favourite-- its all about personal preference.

With a morning to night schedule of classes-- Monday to Sunday-- this spot accommodates most schedules. It also seems like the most reasonably priced spot to downward dog in Halifax. Beginners can register for $49/ month programs (4 months long). Meanwhile, students and seniors get 20% off punch cards.

Beginner or not, The Yoga Loft is a fantastic place for the mind, body, and budget. The people are kind, and the price is right. These are the kind of things that can make self-reflection and inner peace just a little bit easier to attain!

This is a pretty lovely space, located just off of the Halifax Commons on Cornwallis.

You will find an assortment of classes, ranging from beginner to advanced, gentle to intense, as well as classes designed for specific needs, like those of runners and pregnant women.

I used to go to the Loft quite a bit, indulging in Hillary's fantastic vinyasa classes. I loved the pace, as well as her great teaching abilities. If you're a beginner, I would recommend Anna's classes for those new to yoga. She is a kind and helpful person, with lots of experience to draw from.

The hardwood floors and exposed brick, with ample windows, create an inviting space great for practicing. Couple that with knowledgeable teachers and you've got a place ripe for yoga!

Check out The Yoga Loft if you're looking to broaden your yoga horizon. They also sell mats and other tools, great for assisting you on your journey!

Not so much a review as an update/obituary ... it came as a big, sad, end-of-summer shock when word went out that the Yoga Loft has closed up shop.  After six years in business, studio owner Robert Webber acknowledged via email that, among other reasons,  the financial challenges were too great to continue operating the studio.

Although there are still multiple options for gittin' your yoga on in the city, many still feel the Loft will be greatly missed - its North end location, variety of disciplines offered (something that made it distinct as most studios tend to offer only one form or type of yoga), community involvement (karma classes offered accessibility to those who might not be able to afford it otherwise) and oft-mentioned sunny, eclectic setting are all reasons to mourn its passing.

Ok, so this is a pre-review review but so far, i'm pretty pumped about the Yoga Loft!

Yoga Loft is celebrating their 6th birthday and as such, are offering free classes all day on the weekend of January 23-24th! Ie: this weekend!

    Here's a link for free classes: http://www.theyogaloft...

Definitely recommend showing up early as i'm sure these classes will be busy. The site specifies that first time students don't need a mat, but my guess is that these classes will be FULL of people trying out Yoga Loft for the first time, so bring your own if you have one, or come early.

One more thing: Yoga Loft if open 2:00pm-5:30pm Monday through Thursday for those wanting to register or check out the studio. Other than that, you can register before or after scheduled class time however, the studio is locked the rest of the time.
