Review from Aditya R.
While I haven't been to the old location of the loft, I really like this new one. I've been here three times now and think it's probably the best yoga space I've seen in Edmonton. The room is big with glass windows on three corners and lots of natural light.
Many people don't like the street sounds of Whyte Ave making their way into the studio, but I've always liked city sounds even when I'm meditating. It feels natural and real. The style of yoga that they primarily practice here is called Satva yoga. While I'm not completely familiar with it, I am quite intrigued! They have monthly sets of yoga which sort of gives it a bit of an Ashtanga style feel.
The price is expensive for drop-in classes - $18.00, however first time one month passes are $50 similar to other classes. They have showers and ample storage room for people coming from/going to work, which is a great thing. I really enjoyed the classes I've taken here and might consider buying a 20 class pass and come here once a week. -
Review from Joanna F.
Great place for a relaxing yoga class that still makes you work up a sweat!
The class was well lead, with the added bonus of two assistant instructors who move throughout the room adjusting postures and offering advice.
The style is Savatta - it takes a lot from Ashtanga but moves at a slower pace, allowing you more time to get into the postures properly (a definite plus in my book).
One thing I really liked was how FRIENDLY everyone was - not just the staff, but the students too. Everyone was hugging each other before the class started, and very open in approaching me (a complete newbie) to say hi and welcome me to the class! There is definitely a lot of positive energy here!
The space is very clean and smells nice, and the room is heated, but not enough as to make you uncomfortable.
The only drawback was that the instructor doesn't show that many of the moves, vs telling you what position to move into (involving a lot of watching the other students). I think this is because this class has been going on for a while, and I've dropped in on it, but it means that the class I went to (all level Savatta) certainly isn't for someone without Ashtanga experience.
However, there are also beginner/intro classes available, and a freestyle class that allows you to work on refining the postures at your own speed, if you haven't done Ashtanga before. I think I'll be checking them out too to figure out how to do the advanced moves!
