I stumbled on The Willow back in 2008 while on a business trip to Regina.  Not only is this restaurant the best in the region, it's a world class eatery that has creative cuisine rivaling that of any major metro location in the world.

I was lucky enough to eat her entirely by myself for a late lunch prior to a flight out of town.  This may not be a big deal, but I had eaten here the prior night for dinner as well!  This can either be interpreted as the city having a lack of restaurants, but I'd rather you take this as how brilliant, addictive and delicious this food was.

The restaurant is of clean and simple wood architecture, nestled on lake Wascana.  It would be a treat to see this place in the summertime.  Unfortunately, it was the middle of February and the lake was frozen over.  It still was beautiful, in a winter wonderland kind of way.

I ate land chowder.  I ate wild boar sausage.  I ate a dessert I cannot remember because I was definitely too full and the prior two dishes were great.  The land chowder not only sounds awesome, it's perfectly balanced potato, leek and bacon.  So simple, yet hearty and flavorful.  I'm normally not one to try local game, but I couldn't pass the wild boar by.  Meaty goodness and it didn't have the kind of gamey flavor I expected, but it definitely has a slight iron/tin flavor that made it unique, along with the expected pork-like qualities.

I still get postcards from The Willow all the way here in California - they have a mailing list - and it always makes me wish I could visit again.  Some day I shall return!

A lovely meal with impeccable service.
My friend and I ended our stay in Regina with the 6-course tasting menu at the Willow.
The highlights were definitely the Land Chowder and the Northern Saskatchewan white fish papillote.
The Puddin' (which was one of the dishes I most anticipated) fell a little flat - but the tomato chutney and the micro green salad were both lovely, light accompaniments.
'In the Bag' - featured a bison tenderloin so tender you could cut it with a fork. The vanilla cinnamon whipped potatoes suffered from way too much salt, which the berry compote helped to temper (a bit).
The biggest bonus, they allowed us to split the tasting menu and we each enjoyed a wine flight.
Overall, a beautiful meal in a beautiful setting at a reasonable price!
    Highly recommended.

What a great restaurant! It has a varied and unique menu. There were 7 of us and we were all treated royally.A couple of us had the Amuse Bouche which is a muti-course offering all paired with a wine.I think there was 6-7 courses to this option.A few of us had the chicken which comes from Pineview Farms near Saskatoon.Wonderful and so different. It was served on jalapeno waffles!Crazy but so incredibly good.A couple of others had the steak option which they claimed was the best they ever had.Wine menu is plentiful and very good quality. They also have a Grand Marnier flight (consists of the 4 types of Grand Marnier that is available).I have never seen this anywhere and having a huge soft spot for the stuff,I couldn't believe my luck. Try the smoked duck ravioli as an appetizer.Yummy!
If you want an incredible evening with food that is varied and original and excellent, this is the place for you.

I have recommended this restaurant to others. It is on 10best dot com. It is the number one restaurant for anyone traveling to Regina. Summer on the deck overlooking the legislature and Wascana lake is well worth it.
