One of our top 2 fish and chip places in the world, seriously!  (The other is in Quesnel, go figure!)   A great Yelp find, would never have found this otherwise.  Very eclectic, british deco as others have mentioned.  The halibut was perfectly cooked, lightly and deliciously battered.  The chips are the original style, hand cut that malt vinegar goes perfectly with.... yum.  Lovely little, locally owned and operated place.  Highly recommended and only about an hour from Vancouver.

The pier, talk about the dive that just has great fried fish! A recommendation from a friend as I was going up for the weekend told me to find this place located right in Squamish, and hidden from the main access. I have never heard of the place, and definitely would have never thought of eating fried fish so far away from my own backyard. Now I have to thank you, for setting the bar high in the terms of the devilish delight of this fried treat!

It is hard to describe in words how the batter tasted when I put my mouth to it. I can say that the halibut piece me and my partner shared was not over-battered, like other places you have had this seafood delight! It was not overly crispy, not overly battered, just right, with enough spongy bounce when you dipped your teeth into this thing. They also have cod and red snapper here, but if your wanting not a fishy taste, stick with the halibut. I was at a point where I was not using the tartar sauce as the pure fish battered taste was just so good.

Before you leave, they sell their in-house made pies, meat and apple, I bought some to cook at home, I wish I bought more, they are good, none of that Stouffers' stuff your getting at the supermarket, they may look it, but after you cook one and sit on the couch with one, you will not be sharing this either with anyone at home!

The place is small, a true hole in the wall type place, with stories of the owner and why he opened a joint in the middle of Squamish, it's like walking through the past when you step in here. You come in here empty and hungry, you will leave here in good spirits!

Yummmm!  Poutine, halibut fish and chips! So fresh and the best I have ever had! The wonderful service was the cherry on top! Be careful not to judge it from the strip shopping center location, it's a really great place!

Picture the scene.  My girlfriend and I are driving back from Whistler, BC.  The girlfriend is steaming.  We had meant to spend the morning mountain biking.  Unfortunately we got separated after about 10 minutes.  Despite looking for her for nearly 2 hours - she was mad.  We eventually found each other and eventually began our way to Vancouver.   It was about noon when we passed Squamish.  I knew one good way to smooth things over would be for me to pick a lunch spot that would be 1) something that she likes, and 2) something that we don't have very often.  Wigan Pier fit the bill perfectly.

It was the middle of the week, so there were only a couple others in the restaurant.  The waitress seated us quickly and we ordered a couple beers (definitely need to cut the tension). The restaurant was nautical themed and all dark wood as one would expect for a place going for the English Pub look.  Nothing special, but it was clean and homey.

We both ordered fish and chips.  She ordered several pieces of Cod and I ordered several pieces of Halibut.  Both plate came with sizeable pieces of fish and crispy fries.   The fish was well-battered, meaning not overly batter but just right (not too much, not too little).  The fish itself was amazingly fresh and tasty.  So tasty in fact that both of us agreed that this was the best Fish and Chips we'd ever had.

Squamish is an amazingly small town and there aren't many dining options outside chains in Garibaldi Heights, but if you are passing through on your way to Whistler or in town to climb the Chief.  I don't think you can go wrong with Wigan Pier.

This was our second English style fish and chip place in our short outing to Canada. [See my review of Moby Dick]. Wigan Pier is located much further north, half way between Vancouver and Whistler. It came highly recommended from various British friends.

The restaurant space is a a mid-sized, family run place with eclectic decoration. The menu is pretty good, including both the usual fish and chip items and a decent variety of other stuff including wings, appetizers and British-style pies.

Service was very prompt and friendly, and a small food mistake was corrected quickly and with an extra item brought in apology. Menu prices are pretty low, portion sizes reasonable and not huge.

I had the Chicken & Mushroom pie, which was excellent and very much in the British style. My wife had cod, which was fine. The chips were excellent, exactly what I would expect - not too crispy or limp, and decently thick cut from fresh potatoes. Another great English chip experience.

I slightly preferred Wigan Pier to Moby Dick (a better menu selection), but since we are coming up from the US, Moby Disk is so much more conveniently locationed.

Pretty certain we'll come back here every time we go to Whistler. Worth the visit.

This was our favorite restaurant from our BC vacation.  Thank goodness for Yelp or I probably would have never known about it since they have a very small sign and are hidden behind a huge strip mall.  While there was a line out the door to get into the little sushi restaurant up the block, Wigan's was empty at 7 PM except for one other table.  I loved the busy/ecletic décor - wish I had taken some pictures to post.  We decided to share an order of the halibut and chips and a bowl of clam chowder.  The batter seasoning was perfect and I thought the chowder was delicious (although my boyfriend pointed out that it tastes like they use a lot of celery seasoning, which isn't his favorite).  We will definitely be visiting here again on our next visit to the area.

    Suishy peas in Squish!

I was alerted to this place by a housemate who hails from the UK. He obviously knows his fish & chip shops! As a vegetarian, I don't eat fish, but they did happen to have a veggie burger - it was just okay, but that's understandable. However, they did have a side dish called squish peas - cooked and mashed peas. I thought it was awesome! I'd actually go back to have just this!

As close to original UK Fish and Chips I've had in North America.  My Scottish boyfriend also agrees.  It's a quiet little restaurant (only been there for lunch a couple times, so not sure what it's like at night), with a good selection of British-style home food.  It's got some fun quirky decor and I have made the trip to Squamish just for their fish and chips a couple times now.

They are original UK fish and chips.  Owner hails from Britian.   The halibut is as good as I've ever had, the fries are truly excellent.   The Wigan Pier is one serious indulgence.  PS to the person who said the cod was boring, yup, that's what deep fried cod is.  Order the halibut, mulligatawny soup if the have any!

Fish(Cod) was boring. Very strange hours and never seems to keep to advertised opening times.
