I went here for dinner just before the holidays. They have street parking in front and on a side street. Reservations are recommended. The place is cosy with dim lights and really good music. The ambiance is welcoming and the service is nothing but impressive.
They have a really good wine and beer list including microbrews from the area. I was actually quite excited and happy to see an extensive wine list.
They have a 3 course dinner that changes daily. The fresh bread from a local bakery nearby with the dips was really good and paired well with the wine. I selected the beef tartar for apps and it was simply delicious. The pork chop was cooked perfectly and the fudge desert was a perfect finish.
Highly recommended and I personally can't wait to go back again. -

Good restaurant with good service. It is hard to describe the restaurant and its feel. Cozy is the word that come to mind. A good place to try!
Last time I went, i found the menu a little short. I found these restaurants in Ottawa to be overpriced for what you get. -

I have braved some indignities at the border crossing. Some of them self-imposed. Like the time I didn't realize that "Last Exit in the USA" meant that I'd soon be crossing a border. And I didn't have my passport or any desire to visit Canada that night. That little episode culminated in a detailed search of my car, its possessions, and in particular, my now-wife's personal cosmetic effects.
Other times, the crossing felt like the interrogation room on "The First 48," and I wasn't exactly sure why. Perhaps it's inconceivable that anyone with a Delaware license would visit Canada for leisure with plans to spend money there? Inconceivable that a man in a long-distance relationship might live apart from his girlfriend? Are these things even relevant?
Anyway, I'd take the five worst border experiences of my life and relive them in succession if that's what it took to revisit Wellington Gastropub. It's possible that my taste buds have been deadened by months of cooking for myself. But I happen to think that WG is one of the best restaurants I've been to in a long time. I think the "local" buzzword is sometimes overvalued in environmental terms (is it really better for the world if I drink a small batch beer from rural Ontario than a Yuengling?). But I can't argue with the taste results.
It's not of much use to relate or recommend the dishes I enjoyed since the menu seems to change every 24 hours. But any iteration of a beet salad, with or without endives, with or without granola(!), promises to be delicious.
Based on our meal, I'd recommend any seafood entree without reservation. Both scallops and sockeye were cooked delicately and, well, perfectly. I don't even like salmon that much, so it's a mystery to me that I ordered sockeye. Then again, I am the sort of person who will leave my native country by accident. But for all that, the fish flaked perfectly without being mushy. And it was rich without being cloying or overpowering.
The staff was really terrific. For some reason I decided to email this restaurant at 2AM to see if they could accommodate me the coming Saturday. Most people call, I know. Anyway, the owner emailed me back by noon the following day to tell me it was taken care of. Then, at dinner, he came over and assured me that my sociopathic aversion to the telephone was "lovely." -

A few things you should know about the Wellington Gastro Pub:
The menu changes every day. Really! This means that you can visit this remarkable restaurant multiple times in a month, and never encounter the same dishes. (Note: There can be pluses and minuses to this. If you become attached to a certain dish, well... you may not see it again.)
The food on which the menu is based is local and seasonal. I ate at the Wellington four times this past fall, and each time was different and remarkable. I never had a bad dish. The desserts are superb and feature Pascal's ice cream.
The ambiance in the Wellington is terrific. Cozy, with a tin ceiling and great music (sometimes Radiohead) on the sound system. The Wellington feels hip, charming and welcoming all at once. Service is excellent, knowledgeable, and down to earth.
If you're in Ottawa, stop by the Wellington Gastropub! You're guaranteed a memorable and tasty meal. -

Ottawa, ON
Definately one of the most exceptional places to dine in this city. The food is always exceptional, the atmosphere relaxed, the beer and wine list enticing.
It's great for either lunch or dinner, and anyone that knows this place has their eyes roll back into their head with a smile when you suggest dining there.
If you're thinking of going, stop: just go now. -

A great place to eat once, and the draft beer sampler is a great option. The entrees are good, but pricey. Yes the atmosphere is good, and the wait staff is friendly, but the concept of a gastropub still has the feel of wanting your cake and eating it too.

BEYOND AMAZING!New menu daily is posted in advance on their website. Personally, I love the low key fine dining experience, very relaxing. These guys pay attention to details without acting all snooty (yup I went there!)
Beers ? High quality and locally(ish) produced. Selection rotates regularly. Wine : These guys know wine, don't let the tats and relaxed dress fool ya! Food : OUT OF THIS WORLD! fresh, creative, well executed and most importantly VERY TASTY! I go as often as I can (I live out of town) I think this is "the" best restaurant in Ottawa. Essentially Beckta without the home equity loan and the snoot (o.k. that one was gratuitous) For prices (im a glutton so not a good judge ;) ) check out their website, it's a steal as far as im concerned.. -

Great staff! The food is inventive, tasty and fun. Overall it's a great place, they could dim the lights a bit as it feels a little cold, but the food is worthy of praise. Fresh, local and creative. Great wine list.

The tuna tartare was mouthwatering! Their draft sampler was outstanding! They had 7 beer samplers for 8.50 including an amazing St. Ambroise Apricot from Mc Auslan Breweing and a very flavorful Maple Porter from Nickel Brook Brewery.

Weird that ther is no review of this place yet since it is so popular and so good !! Was there last Wednesday night ( for about the 7th time ) and it was a good as it always is. Its a testament to its popularity when you can't just walk in at 7pm on a weeknight and get sat immediately ( which would be the case for 99% of Ottawa restaurants ). We had appys at the bar with a couple of drinks and then got sat 20 min later ( as promised ). Menu is always changing but never dissappoints. I usually go with one of their fish dishes since they are always so interesting and delicious. They do grill a good steak as well though. Nice relaxed atmosphere with knowledgeable and attentive staff
