Eggs benny served on latkes instead of a bun! That's brilliant if, like me, you're a big fan of both latkes and eggs benny. Breakfast fare was excellent with the added advantage of being just a little out of the ordinary. Even the fruit garnishes, ordinarily inedible bits of pointless eye candy, were fresh and tasty. Can't wait to go back and try the cheese blintzes.
So a big five stars for brekkies. The tables are somewhat crammed together, but that's understandable in such a small place. Service was top-notch, and the beach is only a few blocks away for a perfect digestive stroll after you've finished packing it all away. -

This place tries to look like a stylish/loungey coffeeshop. I had a turkey sandwhich, which was quite good, but the coleslaw that came with it was absolutely awful. The breakfast fruit that came with Shawna's benedict was cut to be artistic, but difficult to eat. There was no childrens menu, which worked out okay for breakfast, but reviewing the menu, it would have been difficult to find something decently sized and priced for my 6-year-old daughter at lunchtime.

When I think of The Village, I think of their latkes. It tastes exactly like my mother used to make them by hand. These are authentic latkes.
Other places serve what are really hash brown patties.
I've never been disappointed with any of the other food I've tried, but now I have a craving to try their challah french toast!!! Mmmm.
When I've gone, maybe I've just been lucky, but I've always found the service adequate. -

Really great place in Estevan Village. If you're looking for a place to sit outside on a sunny day, the sidewalk tables here are perfect in the afternoon.

As a gluten-free jew who's spent enough time in Victoria to know that apparently "breakfast = bennies", please let me begin to say...
OMG FINALLY YAY!
Not only is there a decent selection of non-benedict breakfast choices, but if you tell them that you're g-f they'll be happy to come u with an alternative for you. Their hash isn't what most Americans would call hash, but I didn't let that stop me from ordering it - and I'm glad I did.
I'll certainly say that it's NOT a place to go when in a rush, and please please PLEASE don't bring any screaming children here -- the dining room is medium-to-small (maybe 40-50 patrons max), but prices are good and the food will make you come back for more :) -

Delicious for an unrushed breakfast spot. Eggs Benedict is delicious.

This isn't a place to go when in a hurry, and when nobody is sitting on a patio, it may be difficult to be seated as a party larger than two. Patrons are encouraged to lounge about and read the newspaper often while hungry people wait outside for a table.
But the food is well executed, not greasy at all, and the portions are satiating, but not filling. Their scrambled eggs are amazingly fluffy. And you can order a single (delicious, but small) blintz on the side!
Prices tend to be higher than other brunchy places, but the quality is high as well. But you wouldn't expect anything less from something in its manicured Oak Bay setting. -

So if you're from this beautiful city of Victoria you're fully aware of the plethora of breakfast places we offer. I remember the days when I used to frequent several of these locales. Most of these places I would even give 5 star reviews, because 4 wouldn't do them justice. Delicious, excellent, diverse.....but,
now there's The Village.
The Village is in its own realm of brunchdom (kinda like kingdom). I honestly can't go anywhere else anymore. These guys (Daniel and his brother) do it right. I could drink their Hollandaise sauce, which is deliciously light with a hint of lemon and a pinch of paprika. Now you could order off the menu and get your benny on a bagel, but what is even more incredible is swapping out the bagel for latkes. Taking a bite of a 'From Italy' benny with that crazy Hollandaise, just runny yolks, a portobella mushroom and almond oregano pesto, only to be elevated by this Jewish grated potato pancake, is more than a small piece of heaven. And this isn't even my dish.
They have converted me from bennies to French toast. I am not a creature of habit, but when I think of The Village I dream of their Challah French toast with subtle hints of zesty orange and vanilla. This is all I am generally capable of ordering, except for my last visit where I forced myself to try the 'From Italy' benny.
Even their lemonade is perfection. No matter how chilly the weather gets this lemonade is a staple with my meal. And how pleasant it was soaking up the rays, sitting outside the other day with my benny and my lemonade.Listed in: Best Evaaaaaaa!!!! In VicCity

Good breakfast but dreadfully slow service.
Not sure if it was the norm or not but our visit was spoiled by dreadfully slow service - it was 20 minutes before they took our drink order and another 25 minutes before any food was served to us. I heard the waiter apologizing to other tables as well for the wait and watched these other tables wait a similarly long time.
The breakfast was good - good bread, good sausages and the eggs benedict were delicious but that doesn't make up for the service. -

Great breakfast and lunch fare. Try blintzes or latkes for brekkie, smoked meat is a must for lunch!

When people ask me where is the best place in Victoria for breakfast, I say the Village Restaurant. This bright and cheery restaurant in Estevan Village is run by two brothers who pay attention to every detail (including seating, so don't you dare try to seat yourself) and I have yet to have a bad meal there in a dozen or so visits.
I am creature of habit, so I usually have the same thing, the french toast on challah bread (this restaurant has a definite Jewish influence). This is easily the best french toast I have ever had, 2-3 thick slices of fresh made challah bread, served with a couple pieces of melon and orange. I have also had the sandwich special, always interesting, and usually good, and the fresh fruit plate that is a little different each time and good for a light breakfast or to lead off a heavy breakfast.
The coffee they serve is roasted by Discovery Coffee and they seem to have some training when it comes to working the espresso machine, but there is definitely room for improvement. There is more to a good latte than quality beans and steamed milk; there is an attention to the process that isn't seen here. I only mention this because a little more training and attention could result in a big difference in quality and Discovery Coffee has the expertise to help them out.
As I said this is my favourite place for breakfast, the combination of great food and comfortable atmosphere is an excellent way to start ones day.Listed in: My Neighborhood, Top Restaurants

My partner and I visited the Village restaurant recently and we had the most delicious eggs benedict. I love the menu and being able to order sides of grilled tomatoes and latkas is a great feature.
The only drawback is that every time I've been to the Village restaurant, they've been close to full capacity, but that's common with breakfast spots in Victoria. The serving staff are fast, attentive and friendly and the food is incredible.
The atmosphere in Estevan village is hilarious. A couple of doors down from the restaurant, a barber shop quartet was singing while we had breakfast. Unusual, but enjoyable! -

I finally made it here, and I'm not sorry. First, I love the area. Estevan village is such a sweet little community, and in the summer, it buzzes with activity, being so close to Willows Beach. But in the winter, it's still a nice place to meander around (with toque and scarf, natch).
We stopped in for brunch on Saturday around 10:15. It's a little place - seating for 30, I'd say, plus some outdoor seating (with fleece blankets for the chairs - a nice touch). The decor is bright and nice. I wish the tables weren't so close together. The couple next to us had an adorable daughter and adorable baby boy, and both parents and the little girl were walking by our table a lot, and even when sitting, the tables were so close as to really alleviate any sense of privacy or intimacy with your dining companion(s). But we were feeling social anyway, and made faces at the baby and all was well. My skim latte was delicious. The local turkey sausage, cheddar and caramelized onion I had was delicious. They were happy to add a few extra egg whites for me, instead of an extra egg, at $1.50 more. The multigrain toast and (seemingly) housemade raspberry jam? Delicious. This is the theme. Deliciousness.
My boyfriend's challah french toast was...*checks thesaurus* succulent, tasty, yummy and sumptuous. With notes of vanilla, and orange zest bits, it was griddled to perfection, light and not too eggy. I think it was a little simple for his taste - he likes his sweets pretty decadent - but I thought it was marvellous. Both meals came with a kiwi slice, an orange slice and a grapefruit slice. We cleaned our plates, and were very happy.
It's on the steep side of price, for breakfast, especially considering they shy away from the enormous portions of some other brunch places in the city. But the ingredients and skill preparing them are quality, the flavours are well-balanced and creative, and everything's really yummy. And you aren't going to leave hungry. You'll be perfectly satisfied, and won't leave a mountain of potatoes behind, is all.
Cost for both of us, including 20% tip, was $33.00. -

Can't comment on the food. Never got any. My wife and I went there for breakfast this morning. There were two tables occupied when we arrived and we made the third table. There were a total of 6 customers. The waitress brought us menus then coffee and tea. Everyone else left. My wife and I sat there...and sat. Ten minutes later two guys come in. She heads over to wait on them. Then two others show up. Same thing. We were invisible, and we were starving. I tried signaling. No luck. After over 15 minutes I left some twonies for the coffee and tea and we left to find another spot. The WORST service ever.

Our family of six adults and a ten-month-old was visiting Victoria for the weekend and needed a breakfast place to meet. The Village Restaurant was perfect! The servers were accommodating, the food varied and absolutely delicious and the ambiance friendly. I especially enjoyed the Israeli breakfast. We all were grateful for a wonderful experience including meeting the needs of our super cute grandson!
