Velvet Room has essentially the same delicious drinks as Fat Tuesdays with the same high prices. Unfortunately, they don't offer food. However, I still rate this lounge higher than its Cajun counterpart because the atmosphere and decor of Velvet Room is one of the best I've seen in Ottawa. There's low lighting, high ceilings, stone walls, deep red fabrics, comfortable velvet nooks, and an excessive amount of chandeliers and gilded mirrors. I think this would be a great place to come have a drink with friends or a lover.
This is also the location of many Eddie May Mysteries, if you're a fan of dinner theatre. Many patrons sit right up by the stage in a cozy atmosphere, so you feel more invested in the show.
This is also the only 25+ bar in Ottawa. They have DJs on Friday and Saturday nights. -

If you have a choice between the Velvet Room or Fat Tuesday's (I believe the same ownership) then I'd stick with Fat Tuesday's.
There's really nothing wrong with The Velvet Room it's just I've always found Fat Tuesday's to be less expensive and a much better party.
The door crew try to aim for an older or at least a more mature crowd here so things don't seem to get too crazy upstairs at the Velvet Room.
The place has nice decor and a decent bar but I find the drinks cost more upstairs (perhaps I was just imagining that too) and the atmosphere wasn't nearly as laid back as Fat Tuesday's.
The DJ's they have here are usually always quite good. It gets loud and the dance floor can get packed so you're in for a fun night, I just think if you're looking for something a bit different and still fun there are other choices.
