Three cheers for Treehouse Cafe & their amazing nightly live music line-up, throughout our season...May to October.    This year, it's called Music Under the Stars, & it's 111 nights of talent, for our benefit.    Oh, yes, their breakfasts are super, same with coffees/baked goods, lunch, dinner (love their wild salmon)...a sweetie spot under the tree, open to nature during the summer, & creatively enclosed for winter...this is one of the destination eating places on the Island, just steps from the Boardwalk, & in the heart of Ganges Seaside Village...meantime, keep on keeping on, with the music scene....

I broke a Yelp hiatus when I realized that businesses on Salt Spring needed some representation. So many people visit, and so few actually live here. Some visitors of the vegan or vegetarian persuasion visit thinking that this veritable hippie hotspot (it's not, by the way) will shower them with food options, and I'm sorry to say that that is not the case. We don't have a lot of choices on the island, despite the fact that an island business (Soya Nova Tofu) makes some of the best tofu I've ever tasted. Fortunately, several businesses have it on the menu, and Treehouse is one of those businesses.

Treehouse is great for a relaxing night out with inexpensive (by SSI standards) food, live music (very often by local islanders), heated semi-outdoor seating, local wines and beer, and your typical slow Salt Spring service (sorry! You'll get the latter everywhere you go).

Vegans will be happy with the tofu peanut wrap, provided they didn't come straight from Portland expecting high end vegan cuisine. My vegetarian boyfriend is fond of the veggie burrito. Skip the squash stew. All in all, it's your best best if you're looking to save a bit of money and hang out amongst locals. The staff are usually super-kind despite serving in the general speed of a Salt Spring Islander, but the kitchen is the size of a shoe box so I don't really fault them for that. The atmosphere is--well--it's very Salt Spring Island (in a good way, in this particular case).

This place is a gem on Salt Spring Island.  We were trying to go to Bruce's Kitchen when we discovered they closed early than they said they would. Highly disappointed, I asked the locals for food recommendations and they said to go to the Tree house Cafe.  It's an actual restaurant in a tree house!!

The menu was cool. They use a lot of local ingredients. It wasn't too expensive. The servers are super friendly! I got the huge lamb burger with cheese on it. I've never had a lamb burger before and it was delicious! They put mango chutney on it and it went really well.  It was a healthy meal as they give salad as the sides options, and no fries. I think I might have preferred fries, but the salad was really nice.

It's a good place to go for live music. I also heard from the locals they're open year round! That was something I found surprising because it's an outdoor restaurant, essentially, and it gets cooooollldddd!!! and wet!!!
