If your in the market for quality outdoor sporting goods, this is your shop.  The square footage in this store belays the assortment of fine sporting goods.  Whether you are looking but a kayak  or tent you can't go wrong.  The items are priced for quality so don't expect to get a lot of bargains here, although they do have sales at times and if you watch for them, you will be pleased that you can walk away with items worth more than their price tag.  The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable when you get their attention which might be difficult at busy times.  If you are feeling like you need special attention for your purchase adventure, call ahead to ask when slow time usually happen.  Parking general sucks as it always does on Quinpool road, but with not too much effort you can score a spot.  I've purchase a number of items over the years form The Trail Shop and I've always felt like I've gotten quality for my money.  What I have bought has lasted and I still have everything I've bought because it didn't break or wear out.  I am a believer that you get what you pay for and the Trail Shop meets my expectation here.  The store is very community minded which I like a great deal because I'm also community minded, hence the great fit!  They are glad to offer a wall for community event and I've posted there a few times.  What can I say, I like the Trail Shop and I think if your similar to me, wanting quality and willing to pay for it, you will too.

I have typically had good experiences at the trail shop. The staff are friendly, and knowledgeable. They also seem to support a lot of local events including two of my favorites: Boulderfest and the Banff Mountain Film Festival. They carry gear you won't find at MEC, typically it is higher quality and/or more specialized. Of course this often translates to more expensive. The one issue I have had with The Trail Shop's clothing is the lack of smaller sizes for men. I'm usually a size small and they often don't carry anything below a medium.

They don't quite have the return policy MEC does, but they will try to take care of you when your gear has a problem. They can help get your gear repaired in, or out of warranty. Having them deal with shipping, and arranging the repair can be very helpful. Unfortunately having to communicate with The Trail Shop, and have them go to the manufacturer for you can make communication difficult. It might be better to send complicated warranty claims directly to the manufacturer to help prevent misunderstandings, or limit your ability to make decisions or communicate with the manufacturer.

This unassuming storefront on Quinpool Road hides two full floors of everything an adventurer needs out there in the wild. Whether you're biking, hiking, boating, climbing or just wandering through the great Canadian wild, you'll find everything you didn't know you needed.

The store is full of things that I can't even begin to understand...a mobile shower apparatus, sweat-wicking Smart Wool apparel, nutritious but probably not so delicious gel packs...the list goes on and on so prepare for much label-reading if you're a non-adventurous shopper.

Staff are helpful but sparse given that it takes more time to help someone buy and move a kayak than just pointing them to the right aisle. This can mean that you're usually on your own or waiting in line before you can really get down to business so give yourself some extra time!

Mini MEC, indeed. The Trail Shop is an ideal stop for the active adventurer and those looking to get involved in some outside ruffing around.

Its got all the sporty gear one could request-- from clothing to hikers to tents and rope. The store carries all the best quality names, and a few extra, as well as an experienced staff of professionals who provide great insight. This is particularly important field to know your stuff, as it can be quite the daunting task for newcomers like myself.

I took my first trip into the shop as an opportunity to browse. I'm always interested in sniffing out new and different running gear, although the women's selection of attire seemed a little too sporty-sharp for me.

Overall, this is a great spot for getting your summer trek on. Great service and a fantastic range of product.

The Trail Shop is essentially a mini MEC and for this reason, i'm generally a fan.

Lots of great camping equipment, rain and winter weather clothing, as well as hiking boots, etc. I'm planning to head backpacking this spring/summer and i'll definitely check out Trail Shop for rain gear and shoes before I leave.

Overall, you can expect to find high end brands such as: Arc'teryx, Lolë, North Face and Kuhl.

We are quickly approaching the small window of warm weather that our province will be getting this year. With that in mind I stopped into The Trail Shop to get a few items I'll be needing for camping this summer.

This shop carries clothing (specializing in outerwear and active wear), footwear, camping & hiking equipment and anything you need to bring on an outdoor adventure. I bought a pair of sandals on sale last fall that were great and stood up to weather better than any other pair I've owned.

Also useful are the rain tarps that The Trail Shop carries, both handy for strapping down camping equipment, making a shelter or keeping your belongings dry in rougher weather!

When you need something sporty - say, a fleece or a backpack or a pedometer or a pair of smartwool socks - the trail shop is where you go. It just is.  If your active lifestyle demands it, the trail shop stocks it.

This includes stuff I would probably never buy, like tents and canoes and - you know, actual outdoor sporting gear.

But I can tell you that the people who work in this shop REALLY know what they're talking about. They walk the walk. They talk the talk. You get it; they're sporty.

And they're really friendly and helpful. So even a doofus like me can go in there and not feel unwelcome in the least.

Recently I needed a rain jacket. Not just any rain jacket, but a real, hard core, rain demolisher. Something that would actually cause me to be dryer after the rain storm.

    I'm demanding, I know.

And demanding people require demanding rain jackets. And the Trail Shop, well, they met my demands (quite easily, I might add).

The staff at the Trail Shop should all be nature guides, the kind of people you see leading hikers into the mountains or groups down river. They are great at what they do because they know exactly what they're talking about. I felt completely comfortable receiving advice from the staff because I can imagine they probably have the same gear at home.

The shop has a number of big ticket item - tents bigger than my apartment, canoes that put luxury sedans to shame, etc. All of which were pretty expensive, but if you are an outdoor enthusiast then I can't think of a better place for you to shop.

So back to the rain coat, I picked one up and even though it was expensive, it was worth every penny. I step outside in downpour and am remarkably dry. It was a great purchase from a great shop that I highly recommend.

Part of The Trail Shop's appeal is that they have staff who really have been there, done that.  So many "sporting good" stores are staffed with people who just don't have the experience and background to advise you on your purchases.

The Trail Shop puts them all to shame.  Knowledgeable, helpful staff are ready to assist with anything that you ask, including just plain sock advice (one of the simplest yet most important challenges to any outing).

The Trail Shop is probably on every outdoors enthusiasts speed-dial.
Although I am not one myself, I do like a quality footwear and clothing that will get me through our wonderful seasons here.

There is a lot of variety out there now a day, and if you are in the dark with the differences, the staff here can put your mind at ease.

They have just about every accessory you can imagine to outfit you in comfort and style. I would rather pay a little extra for something of quality.

I am sure with the staff and selection you will be happy with the choices here.

The Trail Shop is like an independently owned MEC, sans the largeness!

The staff all seem to be pretty active people, which is great - they can help you find pieces based on their own personal experiences creating a comfortable and trustworthy environment.

I love snooping around this shop. I think if I had loads of money I would probably buy some pretty sweet camping gear, not that my current gear isn't up to snuff or anything! I have an affinity for good trekking packs and lightweight tents, and the Trail Shop offers a variety of both of these items.

Recently, I bought a new clean canteen from The Trail Shop. They have a large assortment of beverage containers, as well as tons of shoes, sandals and hiking boots. When I walked passed yesterday, it also appears that they're stocking some nice sundresses and casual, comfy clothing for the spring.

Swing by and support this local business!

The store is great, but we had pretty poor service while looking for a jacket and shoes here. Every time I spoke to the guy on shift it was more and more confusing. And there shouldn't have been anything confusing about it - he just kept completely missing the point of simple questions. This was really a "so bad it's funny" sort of situation. What was this guy's deal?

But again, the store itself is excellent - tons of fun stuff for outdoorsy folk to covet. They have weekly sales too; this week it was beautiful Smartwool sweaters for women that I felt the need to stroke a lot. Footwear's in the back, they carry Canada Goose and other nice lines, and you'll generally have a good time looking for goodies if outdoor activities get you going.
