The Toybox just gets better and better. After changing hands a year or two ago, the store has dramatically increased the range of toys it offers, and now has one of the best selections in the city. They have somehow managed the trick of stocking more toys than you would possibly imagine fitting into a mid-sized shop, without ever feeling cluttered...and while maintaining the charm and service you can't get in a big box store.
They stock a wide range of products but I think their particular strengths are:
- Playmobil: The best selection I've seen in Vancouver, rivalling the kind of assortment you find at large toy or department stores in Europe
- Arts and crafts activities and supplies: A very wide selection of activity kits (I'm guessing over 100), comparable to what you'd find in the kids section of DeSerres or Michaels.
- A huge wall of small items, suitable for stocking stuffers or loot bags.
- Educational and special-interest toys, like magic kits, science kits, and spy gear. An excellent cross-section that pretty much guarantees you'll find the right gift for a kid with a particular hobby or passion.
The only reservation I have about the store is the epic collection of candy that surrounds the checkout counter. Unless your shopping basket contains a pair of plastic handcuffs, good luck keeping your kids from grabbing a candy bar or lollipop while you're trying to pay. -

The inner child in me loves Toy Stores. I do not care that I am in my early 30's. I love Toy stores. Just walking into them makes me feel like a kid at heart in a healthy way. This isn't your Toys R Us brand of toys but more boutique and somewhat unique. The atmosphere is a lot more inviting that some of the other large box chains that I have been to. I was there for Greek Day and inside the store this really nice Scottish worker but on a mini magic show with cards and won me over in terms of simple entertainment which made my day. I don't know how he did the tricks, however, it was awesome. It was a great personal touch to set the store apart from other stores. The prices are very reasonable for the location.

This store has been my fav toy store since I was a kid!
If driving there, parking can be a pain in the butt. You may have to look for 15 minutes and still have to walk a block or two. -

If your child is into PlayMobil or Bruder trucks, this is the place to go. My goodness...what an amazing selection.

I visited the The Toy Box last December when I was Christmas shopping for my nieces. I was looking for small wallets to hold their gifts of cash and I found just what I was looking for and without breaking the bank. The Toy Box is a lot more fun to shop at than Toys R Us and they have a nice selection of toys for all age groups.

The toybox has what I look for in a full service toy store. A massive selection of quality products that encourage imaginative play. It's also great that it's located in a block with other great shops for kids. Just Imagine Fun Clothing has costumes and dancewear, Vancouver Kidsbooks has well, kids books. Parking is easy in that area of Kits too.

This is a great local toystore that carries toys that have more of a feel good feel than what you would find at the big box competition. Everything here is high quality and although they carry trendy toys (such as Dora the Explorer), they also carry lovely things like wooden train sets and other items that encourage creative play, things like craft-making sets, for example. The staff here is knowledgeable about what kids are into at what age, and they'll do a great job helping you pick a gift and then they'll wrap it up beautifully!
